Good morning, and happy Friday to everyone! We arrived at my parents’ house late last night after what seemed like an endless drive through West Virginia, a slice of Maryland, and finally my home state of Virginia. We stopped for an hour or so to grab dinner and ice cream in Lexington, VA, a beautiful little historical town about an hour from our final destination, and that was a nice reprieve, but we were all very glad to get here.
Today I have a spring/summer date night outfit I want to share with y’all. (See that? My Virginia is already coming out!)
I loved this black off-the-shoulder top when I found it in Nordstrom on my visit to Nashville back in February, and I finally got to wear it when we were in Savannah. Now that it seems to be warming up for good, I’m excited to get some more opportunities to wear it. I really love the texture detail.
For size reference, I’m wearing a small. It was a tad snug through the chest, but I wouldn’t want it any bigger anywhere else, so I kept the small.
This top sold out at Nordstrom, but I found it at Revolve. This isn’t a site you see me mention often, but a lot of fashion bloggers I follow shop there, so as far as I know, they have good customer service. It says they have free shipping and free returns and a 30 day price match guarantee.
I often pair my black tops with white jeans in the summertime, so I wanted to try something a little bit different. I decided my pink skinny jeans with the released hem would be the perfect pairing. Black and pink is such a feminine combination and perfect for spring and summer.
These jeans are 30% off right now at the Lord & Taylor Friends & Family Sale, and Nordstrom is price-matching, but they don’t have as many sizes available. I try to shop at Nordstrom when I can, so I can get my rewards points, but sometimes you just have to go elsewhere.
They are also included in the Shopbop Event of the Season sale, but you can only get 20-25% off there. Still, if you’re trying to get to your $500 minimum for the 25% off, it might be worth getting them there.
Since the top is on the dressier side, I went with a strappy nude sandal instead of my typical wedges to offset the casual released-hem denim.
I often don’t wear a necklace with off-the-shoulder tops, but when I tried this top on in the dressing room in Nashville, I happened to be wearing my monogram necklace, and I thought it looked amazing with this top! I don’t know that I would have thought about it otherwise, so I’m really glad it worked out.
I kept the rest of my jewelry simple with gold hoops and a stack of thin gold bangles. Those are so old, I don’t even know where I got them, but I often wear them when I want to dress up an outfit but not compete with anything else I’ve got going on.
I love how this outfit came together. Sometimes I can’t tell if I’m going to like something or not until I see our pictures, and I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about this one, but I think it works.

I like the necklace with this top too…I know I wore a small scarf the other day with an OTS shirt because I was wondering if it’d be strange with a necklace!! I’m glad to see you wore this!!

ps…Can I ask how you got such great photos inside? Do you have a great flash? The ones we took inside for our Chico’s event tended to be so yellow?? Thanks, Jo-Lynne
It was tricky because we had both natural light and indoor lighting going on. I’m sure he adjusted the white balance on the camera and I’m not sure what else.
Love, love, love this outfit! Everything works so well together and you look absolutely gorgeous! Welcome back to Virginia, by the way. I’m in Fredericksburg, not real close to Lexington, but we are in the same state! Have a great Friday!
This outfit looks fantastic on you! Happy Easter!
Looove those shoes!! 🙂
Blush and black is such a pretty combo! I’m loving the texture of your OTS top! Thank you for the linkup!

I absolutely love this outfit! I’m really liking all the off the shoulder tops I’m seeing and this one is beautiful.
Have a wonderful Easter! ????
Gorgeous!! I do love that black and pink combo– it’s so pretty! Have a great Easter weekend and thanks for hosting.
Perfect! You look lovely! Happy Easter!! Julie L
What a fun look for date night! I love the subtleness of the pink denim. You look stunning! Have a great time at your parents and Happy Easter. <3
Oh my goodness I love those jeans! And with black it’s so feminine! And the bangle bracelets are so pretty!
JoLynn, I love how you take a top that looks very dressy and pair it with jeans with the released hem and voila you have the perfect blend of casual meets up town! Ha, ha. I love the blush colored jeans. I’ve gone kind of crazy finding blush colored pieces in my closet and at the stores. It’s so fun to find something in my closet that I didn’t know was trending and there it is! You look fabulous. Enjoy your time with family and Happy Easter! – Amy

Love the pink denim. LOVE the top. I like the off-the-shoulder trend. What I keep asking myself is how many OTS tops should I own? How practical are they? I can wear one out to dinner, but would I be comfortable walking all day in one? I live in a small, rural town. I’m not sure I’d be comfortable bopping around town in one. I have a couple sitting here, trying to decide what to keep. I want to keep them all, but this is how I ended up with too many clothes and nothing to wear. Any sage advice, Jo-Lynne or others?
I hear ya. For me, this is a date night look. I do have events for the blog, which gives me an opportunity to wear things like this, and I wear them when we travel south, but still, it’s a dinner out look for me, not running around town. I have 2 and I don’t think I need more than that for “real life” — I may style a few more for the blog throughout the summer, but for my personal life, 2 would be plenty. 🙂
The pink and black look beautiful together! Enjoy the time with your family! Happy Easter!
Love this whole outfit!! Hope this isn’t a dumb question but what kind of bra works with off the shoulder tops??
I like this one: http://rstyle.me/n/cjvgtwgthw
Such a great Spring outfit! Love them hem on the jeans – I really need to get a pair like that.
Love this outfit. What size did u purchase in the jeans?
These are the 29. They look good but they feel like they do stretch some, so I was wondering if I should have gone with the 28. Typically I like my lighter jeans to have a little more wiggle room so they don’t show through any jiggly stuff. (LOL!) I typically wear 28 in AG and 29 in Paige.
Ok thanks. I am usually a 29 too, I like them to be a bit roomy in light colors too, especially white! Happy Easter!
Yeah, and these are kind of thin for denim — not see through thin, but more like pants than jeans.
Welcome (home) back to Va. I live in Stuarts Draft, outside of Waynesboro. We go to the drive in movie that’s in Lexington often. It’s a 30 minute drive or so. BTW, love the top. So cute.
Another winner! This turned out so cute! It’s different but in the best of ways!
Jo Lynne,
What is the color of polish on your toes and nails? Love the look and the oufit!
My toenails are CND Studio White and my nails are the CND Romantique over CND Cake Pop (one coat each.) 🙂
Super cute outfit! Happy Easter!
You look adorable! I always cringe when I see heels on hardwood floors!
WoW! Hot Momma!! Love this look, it is amazing on you! I love the pink and black, and you are right the necklace just works!
HAppy Easter!
That is a fabulous top! I also love those jeans. I referenced you on my blog today as you have been such an inspiration to me on how to look so put together when dressing casually.
Great outfit! Happy Easter! He is Risen!
Love the pink and black together Have a Blessed Easter
Love the top and LOVE the necklace. I’m in Roanoke. That’s about an hour from Lexington. Have a great visit to my home state!
Hey Krista, that’s where I am! 🙂 Salem, actually. Did you grow up here?
I’ve lived here all of my 41 years. Graduated from William Byrd in 93. My son goes to Northside. I still remember that 1 time we beat Salem. ????
Haha! I remember when we went to State. 🙂 I graduated from Salem in ’90.
I would love to visit Virginia some day. I live in Northwest Oregon and when you talk of where you live and travel and when Cyndi does, it give me the bug to travel there. 🙂
I love the top with the necklace, they work so well together! The black and blush pink is a fab combination…beautiful outfit!
