Summer Try-On Haul: Evereve, LOFT & More

Happy Friday, friends!!! I’ve got a new Try-On Haul for you today. It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these. I have to admit, I haven’t felt very inspired to shop recently. Our spring seemed to last for-ev-er, but now that summer weather is finally here, I’m excited to find some lighter pieces.

Summer Try-On Haul: Evereve, LOFT, Banana, WHBM & Nordstrom

Today I have styles from Evereve, LOFT, White House Black Market, Nordstrom, and one random piece from Banana Republic. I also got a bunch of stuff in yesterday from Old Navy, but I haven’t had time to try those on yet, so I’ll share those in my next Try-On Haul. Okay, let’s get this party started!

For size reference, I’m 5’5″ and around 137 pounds, and I usually take a 6/28 in pants/jeans, a small in tops, and size 8 shoe.

Evereve Try Ons

Evereve gifted me with a few pieces from their newest arrivals and invited me to pick out three outfits. I’ll share a few of those here, and the last one will be part of Monday’s summer style collab with Cyndi Spivey and Deb Boland, so be sure to tune in for that!

Z SUPPLY Lowry Loop Terry Pullover

pullover c/o // shorts c/o // sandals c/o

This Z SUPPLY Lowry Loop Terry Pullover is the perfect beachy pullover to throw on over your bathing suit with jean shorts to walk to the boardwalk for ice cream.

Or, more likely, I’ll be just wearing this outfit on the back deck with friends. The raw edge details, v-neck, and raglan sleeves give it that ultra-casual and laidback vibe. It’s 24″ long, so short enough to leave untucked, but not cropped. It’s TTS; I have the small.

HUDSON Gemma Shorts

pullover c/o // shorts c/o // sandals c/o

The HUDSON Gemma Shorts are a lot like the AGOLDE Parker, but with an extra inch in the inseam and a slightly lower rise, at 10 1/4″. They have a clean cut-off hem with a classic mid-indigo denim wash, so they’re also a little less distressed, which some ladies may prefer.

The fabric is a 93% Cotton, 6% Elasterell, 1% Lycra so they have a good amount of stretch. These shorts run true to size, or you could size up for a looser fit. I’m in my usual 28.

And these DOLCE VITA Lester Slide Sandals are lightweight and easy to slip on and off. The two-strap design is very much on trend right now, and I like how the one strap sits back close to the ankle, making them easy to walk in and keep on your feet. They’re TTS, or if your regular size is a half-size, go with the next size up; I’m in the 8.

CHASER Canyon Raw Edge Tank

tank c/o // shorts c/o // sandals

This tank is super cute, and the fabric is so soft. It’s 50% Polyester, 38% Cotton, 12% Rayon, and it says you can tumble dry low, but I will hang mine to dry because I don’t want to risk it shrinking at all.

I love the subtle tie-dye print and raw edge trim. It’s 22 1/2″ long, so it looks best with higher rise shorts or jeans. It’s true to size, but you may want to size up if in between, or for extra length; I’m in the small.

Good American Good Bermuda Shorts

tank c/o // shorts c/o // sandals c/o

If you prefer a longer short, these Good American Good Bermuda Shorts are have a 9.5″ front rise and a 7″ inseam. They have a frayed hem, and I plan to snip off those dangling pieces. I like how close these fit to the thigh, but you may want to size up if you have a more athletic build.

The material is 94% cotton/4% elasterell/2% elastane, so they have a good bit of stretch, which makes them very comfy even though they fit pretty snug to the body. Plus they hold you in, like all Good American denim. The medium-rinse denim is very versatile, and I’m excited to add these to my closet.

ROAN + RYAN Clementine V Neck Blouse

blouse c/o // white skinnies c/o // sandals c/o

I love this neutral print, but this blouse runs really small. I wish I’d read the reviews before picking it out. I’m wearing the small here, but I’ve ordered the medium, and I hope I like the fit because otherwise it’s a great little top to dress up or down.

I styled it here with the white KUT from the Kloth high rise Connie ankle skinny jeans that Evereve sent me last month. These are really nice for an under-$100 option. They have a flattering fit and a good amount of stretch for comfort, and while they’re on the thinner side, they don’t have much show-through.

Nordstrom Try-Ons

I’ve ordered a few random things from Nordstrom lately, so I’ll put them all together for ease of shopping.

Zella Post Studio Dress

dress // sandals (size up)

This is a really cute throw-on-and-go stretch-knit shift. The ruched and tied hem adds interest and keeps it casual. I wish it wasn’t quite so low under the arms, but it’s probably fine for most ladies. I’m just very short-waisted.

The fabric is 95% modal/5% spandex, so it’s very comfortable, and it’s 36″ long from shoulder to hem. Here it is in the grey.

I think I like the grey a little bit better, and while they’re the same size, for some reason the grey seems a tad looser. That could be a random fluke, or it could be that each color fits a little differently.

This dress fits true to size, but I wouldn’t mind sizing up for more wiggle room. I’m just afraid if I try the medium, it will be way too long under the arms. I suppose it could be taken up in the shoulders, but it may not be worth that… so I may just return it. I think this would be a nice option for taller or longer-waisted ladies, though!

Madewell MWL Breeze Drawstring Romper

romper // sandals

My stylist at Nordstrom posted this Madewell MWL Breeze Drawstring Romper to her Facebook page, and I snapped it up. I thought it might be a fun alternative to dresses and shorts this summer. Some rompers can seem too junior but I like the minimal, clean lines with this one.

It’s not terrible, but I don’t think it’s flattering either. I think it’s because I’m so high-waisted, and the drawstring waist sits well below my natural waist, and it makes me look very boxy and straight up and down, when I actually have an hourglass figure. (Compare to the pictures of the Zella dress, above.)

I’m also not crazy about the muddy, yellow-green color. The fabric is soft and comfortable, though, and it runs true to size. I’m sure this would be really cute on the right person, but it doesn’t do much for me.

BP. Rib Henley Tank

tank // shorts // sandals

This tank is all sorts of no, but I thought I’d share it because someone might like it. I sized up to the medium, anticipating a shorter, tighter fit, but it’s still way too small and short in the medium.

It’s comfortable, though, and the price is right. I might pass it down to one of my daughters.

Banana Republic & White House Black Market

I’ve had some requests for dressier tops, so I ordered a few from White House Black Market to show you.

WHBM Flutter Sleeve Surplice Top

top // jeans c/o Evereve // sandals

This is such a pretty print, but it has a strange fit. Perhaps I need to size down to a 4, I’m not sure, but it’s awfully long and kind of shapeless. The flutter cap sleeves are pretty, but the ball chain detail is a little much.

Plus, it kind of gapes where the fabric crosses over in front. I tried to get a side view in the picture below, but it’s actually worse in real life when you’re moving around.

I dunno. Overall, this blouse is cute in theory, but it misses the mark somehow. It also would look better with skinny jeans.

WHBM Short Sleeve Crochet Top

sweater // jeans c/o Evereve // sandals

I think this top is really cute, but it is quite short; it’s only 18″ from shoulder to hem, so it needs a high rise jean or maybe a skirt. The wide scoop neckline is very flattering. and the fitted waist is nice for wearing with skirts and higher rise jeans.

Crochet is trending right now, but it can be very boho, so I like how they incorporated the open weave into a sweater that is a little more of a classic style. Since it’s a little too short for the mid-rise jeans, I also tried it with a denim skirt. (See below.)

Banana Republic Patch Pocket Denim Skirt

skirt // sweater // sandals

This skirt is really cute, but I think I’d like it better if it were an inch or two shorter. If you prefer to cover your knees, this is a nice choice. It has front and back patch pockets and a 6″ center back vent.

The material is a thick, comfortable stretch denim (90% cotton, 6% recycled cotton, 3% elasterrell, 1% elastane) and the medium denim wash has some whiskering and fading for a casual, lived-in vibe.

I also tried it on with this sleeveless v-neck tee from Talbots, to see how it would work with a t-shirt. I did a front-tuck and left the back out.

Overall, I really like this denim skirt as an alternative to jean shorts. I sized up to an 8

LOFT Try-Ons

And finally, some summer styles from LOFT! I feel like LOFT is trying to find themselves again, after going off the rails during Covid. There are some hits and some misses in here, and most of these pieces are 40% off with code NEED.

LOFT Linen Dolman Tee

tee // shorts // sandals

I really like the fit of this top; it has a really nice shape to it, but the white is way too sheer for my personal comfort level. The dolman sleeves give it a relaxed fit, but it’s not cut too low under the arms or anything.

I also ordered the olive, which is better insofar as it isn’t so sheer, but it’s that same murky shade of yellow-green that seems to be pervading my favorite retailers at the moment. Maybe I should give the pink or black a try. I just really don’t need any more black in my closet at the moment.

Here’s a shot with it untucked, so you can see the true silhouette. Again, I love the cut of this top, but I wish the fabric were a little thicker.

This linen tee is 23″ long, and it runs true to size; I have the small. It’s also 40% off with code NEED.

LOFT Summer Sweater

sweater // shorts // sandals

I love a summer sweater, and this one is a really cute design. I like the wide neckline and the slouchy fit, and the subtle colors of the lettering.

Unfortunately, it’s also very thin and almost see-through — not a deal breaker, but something to be aware of. It runs true to size; this is the small. It’s also 40% off with code NEED.

LOFT Ruffle V-Neck Shell

top // shorts // sandals

This is a cute top, but I don’t care for the loose fit. It also isn’t quite regular-bra friendly, and I’m not willing to deal with a strapless these days.

With these shorts, it’s definitely too youthful for me at almost-49. It would look more elevated with white skinny jeans, or my white Mother Insider crop flares, but I don’t like it enough to keep it. That said, if it’s your style, it’s a cute top, and it’s 40% off right now with code NEED.

LOFT Ribbed Button Sweater Tank

sweater // shorts

I was hoping this sweater tank would fit better than the BP. one from Nordstrom above, but it still feels pretty short and skimpy. It’s really cute, but at my age, or maybe it’s because of my larger chest, it feels a little too hoochie-mama for my comfort level.

I feel like I’m in this weird stage of life with older teenage/young adult kids. Things that I would have worn even 5 years ago suddenly seem a tad inappropriate. I guess this is a situation where you have to go with your gut.

I’d like to order the next size up and try this with my Mother Insiders (they’re a higher rise than the shorts, and offer more coverage on the lower half) and see how I feel because I like the style and the color a lot. But this one is going back.

LOFT Striped Tank Midi Dress

dress // sandals

Midi dresses are trending right now, and I love the colors and design of this striped tank dress. It has a streamlined silhouette without being clingy, and a side slit for walkability. It measures 45 1/2″ from top back neck to hem, on the size medium, but I’m wearing my usual small.

Loving this casual alternative to shorts or white jeans. I would wear this anywhere from church to out to lunch to hanging out with friends out back. It’s 20% off with code NEED.

  1. I am your body type as well (hourglass with a short waist), and the Loft Striped Tank Midi dress is absolutely charming on you! If i wasn’t currently 9 months pregnant, I would snag that dress up for our PNW summer. 🙂

  2. Great post! I tried on that BR skirt too. I had such high hopes, but, alas, way too long and made my legs looks short. Definitely not the right length for me! One for the taller gals!!

    1. Yes, I agree. Although I’m wondering if I should try the petite before giving up. Also, I maybe should try the 6 – I ordered the 8, and I felt like it was plenty snug, but sometimes denim skirts are funny and you can size down for a more flattering fit, even when you think the larger size is fine.

  3. When I saw a try-on haul in my mailbox, I smiled. I loved these. And this time I agree with most of your comments. Maybe I am getting more fashion knowledgable! (And that is thanks to you!) My body type is like yours, larger girls, very short waisted. I usually wear a medium to your small on the top, but the same size on the bottom.
I am waiting to buy anything new as I adjust to retirement in North Carolina. I don’t know what I will be wearing haha!
What is the whitish nail polish color you are wearing?
Have a great weekend! I am envious of the pool. We are so missing our pool. Next summer we will have a pool at our new house. Roof trusses go up next week!

  4. What a nice try-on haul! I agree with you that a few of the tops aren’t as flattering on you as some of the others. As I’ve aged, I prefer clothes that have more give and more forgiveness when it comes to how they fit. I am a proud 64+ yr old and have no desire of dressing like I’m a youngster, nor do I want to wear clothes that make me look older than what I am. I really like the striped midi dress on you. I am going to check out the denim skirt, since I don’t wear shorts when I’m out and about. Have a great day!

    1. I can imagine, it is a whole different ballgame when you get to your 60s. I hear every decade makes you question your choices. I’m still holding on to my 40s, but I think my 50s will cause me to start subtly changing up my silhouettes and shorts lengths.

      1. Totally agree! I’m 53 love fashion and started loving shorts again the last few years! However some shorts for me are just for home and others for going out.. this spring we’ve had some hot days( 90’s-95’s)!so I’ve been reaching for dresses again!

  5. I’m with you I use to Love Loft clothes but since Covid, nothing seems to grab me. Guess I’m saving money. Lol. I wish I could wear the shorter shorts like you. There just doesn’t seem to be a good length for me. I’m 5’3” and 59 yrs old and not thrilled about my legs. The two lengths you show here don’t work. Too short and too long. I am waiting for two Old Navy dresses to come to try for alternatives. I like the skinny leg white jeans on you. Keep those.

      1. So just to clarify the Wit and Wisdom are 9”? Would you say they are Bermuda? At first I thought from your reply they were 5”. It’s like 7” would be best for me probably. Bermuda length makes me feel frumpy.

        1. Let me measure to be sure. Ok so I have 2 pairs and the ones I was wearing have the 7” uncuffed inseam – https://shopstyle.it/l/bvjaH – so that’s probably 5” with the cuff. Of course, they’re sold out. 🤦🏻‍♀️

But you could get the 9” and cuff them a few times, or cut and cuff, or hem to your preferred length. 😬

  6. Hi Jo- lynne.

Love the loft dress. Are you able to wear a regular bra with that? It is hard to tell from the pics and also from the loft website.
    Thanks!
    Pam

  7. PS. I know just what you mean when you get your age and your daughters get older your mind changes on some things you want to wear. Just part of life. I find my 50’s is even harder and my daughters young mothers now.

  8. Thank you for showing the good, bad, and ugly in your try-on hauls! I’m also an hourglass (but long-waisted 5’2” tall), so theses are very helpful. I’m working on fixing up my wardrobe and fit is always a problem. I have a bad habit of settling for clothes that aren’t quite right, so I have a closet full of stuff I don’t feel great in.

    1. Yes, when I’m shopping with my best friend, and she tries something that isn’t quite right, she always says, “If in doubt, do without.” It’s a good reminder! 🙂

  9. I could not agree with you more about Loft! But Ann Taylor has been knocking it out of the park! I just ordered multiple tops at 50% off and free shipping! They have beautiful colors and patterns. Love these try-on sessions. Your thorough analysis of fit and what you like/don’t like has taught me so much.

  10. What caught my eye was the BR denim skirt…SO cute! I’m definitely going to order it to try. The front pockets are fun.
I have to tell you that although it’s out of your comfort zone, when I saw the pic of you in the LOFT green ribbed tank and white shorts I immediately thought “Wow, Jo-Lynne looks hot!” 😉 Rock the end of your 40s, my friend, because our bodies really shift in our 50s. Try-on Hauls are my favorite posts!

    1. I can see that skirt on you, and I think it will flatter your height much better than mine. I could try the petite, I guess. I do like it. And LOL about hte green ribbed tank. It is cute, but the buttons gape, and it’s short. I think I’ll order the medium and try it with the Mother Insiders.

  11. These are my favorite posts, and I agree that your analysis was spot on. I was most impressed with the Evereve tops, and hope you will try the ones that didn’t fit in a bigger size. I have a closet full of tops that I can’t wear yet this summer. I am in the middle of my breast reconstruction after breast cancer. I had a DIEP flap surgery and need one more surgery to match up the two. I had an appointment for that surgery but it got put off for almost a month, because my surgeon needs foot surgery. In the meantime, I have been wearing tops with a higher neckline and, as you know, that’s not the best look for a short waisted, larger breasted woman. All that to say, I have found some great tops online at Express. Some are dressier, some not. I haven’t shopped there in years—I am 62.
Also, I purchased those Gap Bermuda shorts, and the first time I wore them, I got a “wow!” from my husband. Thank you for that!

    1. I’m so glad you like the Gap shorts, and thanks for the tip on Express. I’ve found a few cute things there over the years, but I don’t think to check them out very often.

  12. So, a little off-topic, but can I ask the paint color you have in this room that you’re in for the summer try-on haul? We’re thinking about painting our interior and I’m SOOO overwhelmed with trying to find the perfect “greige”. I’m sure you mentioned the paint color back when you moved into your home but I couldn’t find it in old posts. Thank you!!

  13. Love the BR denim skirt with the crochet sleeve top, sweet looking outfit but at 5’3″ need petite and website petite is basically sold out unless you get the Ecru color. Such a cute skirt with the front pockets, love a jean skirt!. Enjoyed the post.

  14. First off I really like your hair the longer length! Your try on hauls are always fun and I appreciate the full view you give not just the front! I also agree that as my children became adults I became more selective in my clothing choices but without sacrificing my style 🙂 I’m looking forward to your old navy haul they’ve really stepped it up this year in my opinion 🤷‍♀️.

  15. Thanks for another great post! You’re my favorite of all the wonderful bloggers I follow because you keep it real and offer honest opinions. Have a wonderful weekend!

  16. I just ordered the Zella dress to wear during a Cape Cod vacation and then for casual school summer office days.
