If you know me, you know I’m a sweater girl through and through. There’s nothing I’d rather wear in the fall and winter than jeans and a cozy knit, so I’m thrilled that sweater weather is here again! Today I’m rounding up my favorite sweaters for the season—both new finds and old favorites I’m excited to rewear—plus a few fresh options if you’re looking to update your sweater collection.

My Favorite Knits to Wear (and Rewear) All Season Long
Sweaters are one category I don’t mind spending a little extra on. Quality knits not only look and feel better, but they also last for years when cared for properly. I have quite a few wool and cashmere sweaters that have held up beautifully, so I’ll start by sharing those tried-and-true favorites I’m excited to pull out again this season. But I’ve also found some fun, affordable options that add variety and texture to my closet. They may not be forever pieces, but they’re perfect for keeping my classic looks feeling fresh.
Jenni Kayne Flynn Cashmere V-Neck

This is hands-down my current favorite sweater. I try not to buy duplicates since I like each piece in my closet to feel unique, but this one is such a timeless staple that I now own it in three colors. The quality is beautiful—lightweight yet cozy, with a relaxed (but not oversized) fit and a perfectly cut V-neckline.
This sweater layers easily under all my favorite jackets but also looks great on its own with a few accessories. The length is just right for wearing untucked or doing a casual front tuck to define the waist and show off a belt. It’s one of those pieces that can go dressy or casual depending on how you style it, making it an easy go-to all season long, and a must-have for travel.

Jenni Kayne Cashmere Fisherman Sweater

This was the first Jenni Kayne sweater I fell in love with. It definitely leans more casual than the Flynn, but it’s a true classic that will never go out of style. I’ve had my ivory one for almost five years now, and it still looks practically new.
I also own it in grey, but for some reason, I always reach for the ivory—it’s such a pretty, bright shade that pairs beautifully with all washes of blue denim, as well as grey and washed black. It also layers perfectly under all sorts of vests and jackets, making it one of those easy, throw-on-and-go pieces I reach for year after year.

J.Crew Cashmere Patch Pocket Cardigan

This one is a newer discovery, but it quickly became the MVP of my travel capsule after I ordered the black one for my England trip last spring, and now I rarely travel without it. It’s soft, luxe, and incredibly versatile.
I can dress it up with accessories and black pants for dinner, layer it over tees and dresses for sightseeing, and tie it around my shoulders when the sun comes out. It’s also perfect for throwing on over a pajama tank in the hotel room when I get chilly or need to answer the door for room service.

EVEREVE Jessie Cardigan

I found this one at the EVEREVE store in Franklin, so I haven’t had a chance to wear it yet, but I was immediately drawn to the rich evergreen color and scoop neckline with its rolled edge. Most cardigans are either V-neck or crewneck, so I love this softer shape—it’s flattering, fun, and just a little different.
While it’s not the same quality as the cashmere sweaters above, it’s super soft and comfortable, with a subtle batwing sleeve that gives it a relaxed, effortless vibe. It can easily be dressed up for a cozy holiday gathering or worn more casually for everyday. I also think it would look great paired with a satin bias-cut skirt or a plaid mini with tall boots.

Vince Classic Crewneck Cashmere Sweater

This sweater isn’t terribly exciting, but it’s such a good base layer for all types of coats and jackets. It’s made of lightweight yet dense 100% cashmere, with a classic crewneck and subtle ribbed trim that gives it a polished look.
I also love the modern 22″ length; it works perfectly worn out or with a casual front tuck when you want to add a little waist definition. It’s the kind of sweater you’ll have in your closet forever. For size reference, I sized up to a medium for a more relaxed fit.
I also have several other Vince favorites I’m excited to pull out again this season, but unfortunately, they didn’t bring them back this year, so I can’t link them. Two that I reach for often are the Raglan Wool-Cashmere Turtleneck and the Boiled Cashmere V-Neck Cardigan, which I have in two colors. They’re classic Vince styles—minimal, soft, and beautifully made. If you’re looking for something similar, the J.Crew Brushed Party Cardigan or Aritzia Bare Cashmere V-Neck Cardigan are nice alternatives.

Caslon Raglan Sleeve Wool & Cashmere Sweater

Another newer find I’m excited to start wearing, this sweater is a great value for the price point. It’s a wool and cashmere blend with thoughtful details, like seaming along the raglan shoulders and a contrasting ribbed panel on the sides, collar, cuffs, and hem. I went with the ivory-and-black stripe, but it also comes in several solid colors.

Gap Factory CashSoft Cable-Knit Crewneck

And for more budget-friendly options, I highly recommend checking out Gap Factory sweaters. Their CashSoft Cable-Knit Crewneck is a classic style that’s perfect for layering—it looks great over a white tee or under just about any casual jacket. It’s also a nice one to throw over your shoulders when you want to add an extra point of interest.
I also love the Relaxed Stripe Boatneck for a laid-back, casual look. Both are soft, comfortable, and a great value for the price.

Splurge or Save: Best Fall Sweaters to Shop
That just scratches the surface. I have plenty more favorites in my closet, and even more I’ll be sharing in upcoming try-on hauls, but in the interest of time, I wanted to focus on my very top picks for now.
I also rounded up a bunch of additional options worth browsing below, and because I know we all have different budgets and priorities, I’ve divided my picks into two groups—splurge and save options.

Whether you’re looking to invest in a timeless cashmere piece or add a few fun, affordable styles to the mix, these are some of the best sweaters I’ve found for the season.

What size did you order in the J Crew cashmere cardigan?
I have the small.
Is the green Evereve sweater itchy?
No, I don’t think so.
What size did you purchase in the green sweater?
I bought the medium but I ordered a small to compare… (they didn’t have one in store.) I’ll report back when I get it!
Thanks! I have birthday reward from Evereve I’m planning to use. This sweater looks like a winner!!
I also love a good sweater/jean outfit! One of my favorite knit tops are my Barefoot Dreams hoodies, cardigans or pullover V-neck sweaters. Personally, I find them more comfortable and softer than cashmere and easier to care for. I usually get mine on QVC, going through your link to purchase! They are so much more than at-home leisurewear!
Yes, they are sooo cozy.
Do the Jenny Kayne sweaters run small or large? What size are you wearing?
Thanks!
They’re a little generous, I have a small in both the fisherman and the Flynn.
Jo-Lynne—speaking of sweaters–can you tell me what color sweater you feel best goes with burgundy/cranberry color corduroy jeans? I just bought a levis one to wear for casual holiday get togethers. I was thinking grey or cream–but would like more ideas. Thanks!
That’s a great question!! I have a pair from last season from Gap outlet I’d like ideas for as well. And shoe color. I didn’t wear them much because I had difficulty styling them.
The most modern look is to go monochrome! It can be with a bunch of burgundy pieces, or using some lighter shades like mauve or pink. Or yeah, grey and cream for sure should work. Or black.
Thanks Jo-Lynne on the tops suggestions for burgundy corduroys! Laurie–I was thinking taupe boots—maybe
