Today is the first day of spring, so I thought it was the perfect opportunity to discuss spring fashion trends. Never mind that I woke up this morning to sleet and snow. We got a taste of spring last week, and I know it’s only a matter of time before we can ditch the heavy sweaters and winter coats. I’m dying to open all the windows, air out the house, and start purging and cleaning.
Okay, I don’t clean, but every spring and fall, I like to go through all of our rooms and get rid of the clutter along with all of the clothes we no longer wear regularly. This is a great time to make a list of the items you need to update your wardrobe for spring, so I decided to write a post on wearable spring 2015 fashion trends and some pieces you might want to add to your spring wardrobe.
5 Wearable Spring 2015 Fashion Trends
1. Comfort Shoes
Last week I wrote an entire post dedicated to comfort shoes for spring. I’m so happy that this is a trend. I love a great pair of heels as much as the next woman, but they’re not practical for most of us on a daily basis, and they’re downright dangerous for some. Not only do I have to wear flats for the time being due to my stress fracture/torn tendon recovery, I really should be wearing shoes that are supportive so my plantar fasciitis doesn’t flare up again.
With the popularity of slip-on sneakers, sport sandals, and Birkenstocks, we can be on trend AND comfortable this summer. Winning!
2. Yellow
I’ve seen several sources proclaiming that yellow is the hot color for spring. Dancing with the Stars premiered this week, and I couldn’t help but notice that Julianne Hough was wearing a bright yellow dress.
Yellow is fun and sunny and cheerful, but it can be hard to wear. Personally, I like the idea of wearing a yellow accessory, such as shoes or a handbag. In fact, I have yellow ballet flats that I love pairing with navy and white. Wow, my hair was short!
However, if you DO want to try out a yellow frock, here are a few to consider.
3. Boyfriend Jeans
Yes, they’re back. I still don’t love the look on me, but I do have a couple of pairs that I wear from time to time.
If you don’t like the baggy look (I don’t, really) then you can always cuff your favorite skinnies or straight-leg jeans, and get a similar effect. I do this a lot when the weather is getting warmer in the spring but isn’t yet hot enough for shorts.
4. Gingham
Gingham is a big trend this year. I’m not a big fan of button-down shirts, which is where you usually see the gingham pattern, but isn’t this gingham print trench is absolutely to die for!??
5. Bucket Bags
The bucket bag trend is one that was around last year, but this year it’s back and bigger than ever. This is one I’ve had my eye on for some time. I love the casual ease of a bucket bag. I’m really trying to hold myself back from another handbag purchase, but this R Minkoff ‘Fiona’ Bucket Bag in Aloe is calling my name. LOUDLY. I do have a birthday coming up . . . hmmm . . .
Here are some other options to consider.
Which of these spring trends is your favorite??
Great post. I love these trends especially the birkenstock and sneakers.
Happy Spring, Jolynne! Ada. =)
I cannot wait to have all of the windows open! I love yellow for spring! The yellow flats are so cute!

At least there is some Spring on my computer screen today….outside it’s snow-covered trees again! Will we ever be able to ditch our socks, sweaters and boots??!!??
Also, I’ve had great success clearing out closets using Thred Up, an online consignment store, which takes womens and teens clothing.
Great trend round-up, JoLynne. I just bought and returned a yellow shirt. As much as I love it on others, I’ve decided (like you) that it’s best on me as a bag or accessory.

I love your fashion info. Perfect for us who live in small towns. So many wear the “uniform” of sturdy jeans, unisex T-shirt and sneakers. You can be so much more stylish but still be casual! Thank you for your inspiration!
well this momma can definitely appreciate comfort shoes being trendy!! YAY!
Great post! I am in with the yellow shoes. I got some TB flats that I like to pair with green jeans. I am not a fan of yellow clothes on me, but I do like yellow accessories. Thank you much for the great style ideas. Have a fantastic weekend!
I love that boyfriend jeans are still on trend and I agree with you on the yellow, I like to add it as accents to my outfit. Love the yellow flats with the red bag. ~Cynthia
So many great choices! Love the cute yellow flats with your maxi dress and your boyfriend jeans look great on you! That’s one thing I still haven’f found the right fit of for me, I really want a pair for spring. Thanks for hosting JoLynne:)

That bag is really cute and I love the color! Bring on Spring!
So on the comfortable shoes topic… T and I are going to Paris in May for our 10th anniversary and I want to wear comfortable but stylish (it is Paris after all) shoes and clothes. What would you say are your favorite comfortable and stylish shoes (and clothes)? 🙂
How exciting! I honestly don’t know. I’ve never been to Europe, but from what I understand, you definitely don’t want to be in sneakers, right??? If I had to pack today for Paris, I haven’t got a CLUE what I’d wear. Those Taos Untold ballet flats I have are quite comfy, but I can’t imagine walking in them all day. My Sperrys are comfy, but that doesn’t seem very European. The Payless ballet flats in the Dexflex line are super comfy but not very supportive. Check out Angie at YouLookFab.com – she is super stylish and has lots of great suggestions for all kinds of occasions and travel destinations.
For the first time in a Long Long time….I LOVE every single wearable trend and they all work for the Over 40 crowd too!! Man, is it ever a winning fashion world for us this year!!! (I’m lucky, yellow is my all time fave color and I can wear it!)
Isn’t it awesome when the stars align!? 🙂
Have you ever heard of the Orthoheel brand of shoes? I have foot issues as well, and this brand has superior arch support, and super cute styles. I get mine from QVC.
YES! I actually have 2 pairs of their sandals.
That yellow dress is fabulous!!! Thank you for hosting, Jo-Lynn! Have a great weekend 🙂

I love that gingham coat! You look lovely in everything – and I think the boyfriend jeans are cute on you. Have a great weekend!
I would love to find me any gingham piece & not to forget my fave fringes!
Best!

Can you tell me where to find a long blue & white striped dress, similar to the one you are wearing? Do the Orthoheel brand of shoes run narrow? I find Birkies too wide for my foot. Love all your outfits today!
Hey, Joanne, that was from LOFT – several seasons ago. I haven’t seen one like it in a while, but I’ll keep an eye out.
Orthaheels don’t run narrow, in fact, I can only wear the ones that buckle. I’m afraid Birks will be too wide for me too.
From your list, I think I’ll go with the boyfriend jeans and adding some yellow accessories. Other than that, I am looking forward to stripes and more stripes and I just love the upcoming color palette.
Thanks for hosting the linkup. Have a nice weekend 🙂

Thanks for the spring fashion update. I already have two pairs of boyfriend jeans and would live in them if I could. I’m putting a bucket bag on my shopping list. Very cute. Thanks again for the great and practical info that real, working moms can apply and use in our daily lives.
I have been on the lookout out for more gingham in pretty colors for this spring and also excited about yellow being on trend. It’s not a color I have very much of and wouldn’t mind trying something pretty like the dress you showcased – beautiful!
Hi Shane, love your blog and follow it regularly. Can you please help me find out if I can wear printed and colored pants at work ?
Hi Swati. I would say that depends on the type of environment you work in and what the typical dress code is. Can you give me some more details?
Thanks for responding, its an IT company with some rules like 1) Jeans are of course no no 2) can wear collarless tops on weekdays and trousers 3) I have tried red pants on fridays and HR ddn’t object, so i think it should be okey. 4) tea shirts are not allowed on weekdays. The doubt is with these conditions dont know what are my options.
Gotcha. Then I think printed and colored pants are fine as long as they aren’t jeans. There are a lot of options like that right now. Does that help? Or would you like me to find some outfit ideas?
I mean t-shirts 🙂
right, i am bored of plain, sober age old outfits at work where there is lot of options. It will be nice if you can share 2/3 outfits. And the point is I am no good at doing this, I just learn it from your blog 🙂
