What I Wore Lately: Summer Style from Philly to Coastal Maine

Hi friends! It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time for another What I Wore Lately! This one covers the past two weeks, from casual days at home in Philly to our five-day family vacation in coastal Maine. It’s been a busy couple of weeks, so there’s lots to share!

SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and I usually wear a small or medium in tops and dresses, a 29 or 30 in jeans and pants, and a size 8 shoe. Gifted items are indicated by c/o; everything else I purchased myself.

And as always, a quick disclaimer: These are the outfits I truly wore in my everyday life, so you’ll see some repeats, and a few older pieces that may no longer be available. I’ll link similar styles and budget-friendly alternatives whenever I can.

Two Weeks of Everyday Summer Outfits

My good friend Cyndi was in the area, so I drove out to meet her for coffee. It was a mild summer day with low humidity, so I wore my new Frank & Eileen trouser jeans with a chocolate brown cable knit sweater tank from the #NSale. I finished the look with brown jelly sandals to bookend the outfit, fun chainlink earrings, and a stack of Monica Vinader bracelets. I love how this simple outfit came together; it’s such a fun look and an easy way to start transitioning into a warm fall.

We snapped a quick mirror selfie before heading out, and I wish I’d thought to have her take a proper outfit photo. The downtown area is so cute, but we didn’t have much time, so we spent it the best way possible, chatting and catching up.

The next day, we hosted a family pool party, and I kept it casual in a graphic tee and denim skirt. I ran out to get a few things at the store before everyone arrived, which is why I had my purse over my arm here.

I wore this outfit to my biweekly mani/pedi appointment, and since it’s always cold in the salon, I went with jeans and a short-sleeve sweater. I pulled these jeans from the back of my closet. I hadn’t worn them in a while, and I was reminded how much I like them. The shade is perfect with navy, for just the right amount of contrast.

I paired them with light beige sandals to keep the look light on the bottom, plus they’re easy to slip on with freshly painted nails. The earrings and bracelet were a birthday gift from one of my besties, and I love how the gold ties in with the hardware on my sandals, while the mother of pearl adds a little brightness near my face.

When I got home, I changed into shorts and more supportive sandals to host friends by the pool for dinner.

The next day, we left for our family vacation in Maine, and I dressed in comfy, casual clothes for the flight. I brought my medium-sized AWAY suitcase, even though it was just a five-day trip, because I’ve learned there’s no predicting what I’ll want to wear in Maine. The weather can be extremely variable, I often change several times a day, and we rarely have a set schedule, so I like to have plenty of options.

We wasted no time getting our lobster fix! As soon as we arrived at the lake and unpacked, we changed and drove into town for dinner. I changed into a t-shirt dress and kept the sneakers, easy and comfortable for a casual night out. (We snapped this picture after we got back, so it’s looking a little wrinkled.)

We spent the next day relaxing at the lake, and I kept it casual in jean shorts and a graphic tee.

That evening, we walked down to my aunt’s for dinner and games. It was starting to cool off, so I changed into jeans and a white tee with my Belmont hoodie.

(True confessions: I recreated most of these looks the morning we were leaving when I realized I hadn’t taken any outfit pictures! I really did treat this as a vacation, I needed the break. Anyway, the point is, I did not wear the watch and bracelet that night. They’re in the photo because I’d been dressed to go home when I decided to recreate a few outfits from the trip.)

This is what I wore for our sea kayaking adventure. I forgot my swimsuit, so I just went with running shorts and a linen tank. I wore flip flops to get there and brought along water shoes, which I switched into for the excursion.

(Yes, I recreated this picture too, but I did have the presence of mind to take off the extra jewelry. I even swapped into the earrings I actually wore that day. Since we have kayaks at the lake, I figured I might as well use them as props!)

Oh, and here’s proof of my adventure! Paul and Becca shared one kayak, and my uncle and I were in the other. Paul snapped this picture of us during a stopping point, with our guide in the background.

I wore the same jean shorts and graphic tee for another laid-back lake day, and then on our last full day in Maine, we took a day trip to Camden, one of our favorite harbor towns. It’s such a charming spot, with boats dotting the harbor and streets lined with little shops and cafés.

That day, I actually did remember to take an outfit photo! I wore my navy textured short-sleeve sweater with white crop jeans, and I added gold strappy sandals and some gold jewelry. It felt like the perfect preppy New England summer outfit for wandering the shops and soaking in the seaside views.

I dressed a little nicer for the flight back home than I did on the way up—for no particular reason, lol! (While I didn’t get any more photos in them, the Athleta Brooklyn Heights Cargo Pants and Z Supply Elin Tank came in handy during our time in Maine. I often wore them in the evenings, and in the mornings I like to throw the lululemon wrap on over my pajamas.)

I didn’t end up wearing the EVEREVE Camp Jacket in Maine, so I layered it over a white tee for the trip home and paired it with jeans and sneakers.

Back home the next day, I pulled out my new PAIGE Anessa wide leg jeans from the #NSale and paired them with a black tee and neutral sandals for a doctor appointment.

We went to a neighborhood pig roast last Saturday, and it was a mild summer day, so I actually wore jeans for that too. I pulled out my shoelace drawstring jeans and paired them with this red tee, and I like how they work together. I’d thought I might need a more form-fitting top with these jeans, but I think this one works just fine.

I took a picture of my walking outfit on Sunday morning. This is pretty much my go-to these days. I love these Athleta tanks, so I ordered a white one when they were on sale last month. And I have a few pairs of these Vuori shorts in different colors.

I’m also loving the XERO sneakers for gym workouts and walking the neighborhood. My chiropractor was actually fan-girling over them when I wore them to an appointment last week. (His word, lol!) He says they’re really good for your feet and will actually make them stronger over time, but to break them in slowly.

For church on Sunday, I paired the Frank & Eileen trouser jeans with this white lace-up sweater tank. I first tried it with platform espadrilles, but I decided I didn’t like the way the jeans fell with them, so I switched into flats.

We went to the Beetlejuice musical that night, and I changed because I was feeling like the other outfit looked kind of schlumpy. That sweater tank tends to grow as you wear it. I decided to wear this mesh top and the dark wash flares. I added the platform sandals (they work better with these jeans!) and some fun statement earrings.

Here’s a rare photo of Caroline and me! Paul was with us, so he took it before the show started.

And then I wore the Frank & Eileen jeans again on Monday after my photo shoot, this time with the brown sweater tank again. I feel like the more fitted style looks better with these jeans.

And that’s a wrap for this edition of What I Wore Lately! I know it’s pretty denim-heavy, but our weather has been shockingly mild here lately, and I’m not mad about it!
