Winter Teddy Coat Outfit

It sounds like Old Man Winter is going to stick around for a while longer, so we shot a few more cold weather looks last week.

This teddy lapel coat is a modern twist on a classic winter style, and it makes a nice addition to a casual wardrobe.

I don’t like to invest a lot in trendy pieces, so I found this teddy coat on Amazon.

It reminds me of some of the more upscale versions I’ve seen, such as this faux shearling trench by Billy the Label and this teddy sherpa topcoat at J.Crew, but it’s only $59 and ships free with Prime.

It’s from Daily Ritual, which is an Amazon brand. I’ve had good experiences with Daily Ritual pieces. The quality seems about right for the price point.

This lapel coat has an open front with off-seam side pockets and it’s made of a plush fleece that is cozy without a lot of extra bulk. Best of all, it can be throw in the washing machine!

I also like the length — it falls right below mid-thigh on my 5’5″ frame, giving it more of a casual vibe than the longer styles, and it’s also more manageable to move around in.

I’m wearing my usual small, and the fit is right on. I recommend going with your true size, if ordering.

This coat is quite versatile, but I kept this look simple and styled it over a black cashmere turtleneck and black jeans. I like how this creates a column of black, which is always slimming.

Of course, if you’re going somewhere that you will want to take your coat off, your outfit will be very plain. A long pedant necklace would help break up all the black, or a shorter layered set would be nice too.

My boots are the Marc Fisher Izzie lace-up boots, and they’re kind of a cross between a hiker boot and a combat boot — very on trend this season, and also practical for the messy weather so many of us are having right now.

These boots run big; I have my usual 8, but I could have sized down half.

I like how the trim repeats the camel color from the coat.

Oh, this coat comes in other colors too! I’m wearing the camel, but it comes in a darker caramel, classic black, charcoal grey, as well as a really pretty blush pink, and also ivory.

I kept my accessories minimal, with these geometrical drop earrings by Kendra Scott and my favorite Gucci cat eye sunglasses. Diff makes a similar style for under $100.

This is a great outfit for outdoor dining when it’s cold outside, or just for running errands when you want to look put together.

You could even through this teddy coat on over a matching loungewear set, if you really wanted to keep it cozy, and of course it will look good with other sweater + denim combos.

  1. This is a great look, Jo-Lynne! I like the way that you styled it so that the camel in the boots match the coat. Very striking.

  2. I love this look! At first I did a double take, thinking you had on leggings.😂. What are you getting for snowed in food?

  3. What a fun look!  Is the inside also Sherpa or is it lined?  I have a black teddy coat one from Abercrombie and it’s lined like a regular coat.  Admittedly I haven’t worn it much but I do love the look!

  4. The link to the coat under the photo where you’re looking down also goes to the Billie the Label coat. Don’t know if that’s intentional.

  5. This outfit looks so put together. I love camel and black, but alas, I look terrible in camel. I bought a dark green teddy coat during Nordy’s sale two years ago and it’s such a fun piece. I’m glad I didn’t spend a lot of money on it, though, as it’s definitely a trendy piece that I don’t automatically go for.

  6. I love the look of this teddy coat; however, if you carry some extra weight on your body, it makes you look like an abominable snowman.  I ordered one that Cyndi modeled from Target and sent it right back after trying it on.  You look great in this coat and so did Cyndi, but it was  not becoming on me at all.  They are cute on smaller women.

  7. If I didn’t have my leopard print teddy coat, I would order this one in the dusty pink.  I really like this look on you!  This southern girl kept looking at all of the snow piled up around you since it’s not something we see in these parts, hardly ever.  You can have the ice!  I hope you and Becca have a fun outing to the grocery store and wherever else you end up.  We are expecting more rain later today and tonight, partly sunny for a couple of days, then thunderstorms on Thurs., which is better than ice.  Stay safe and warm!

  8. I think this is a great look in every aspect. I have a leopard print coat about the same length that I got at a great price on clearance at Nordstrom last year. I have only worn it once, and it was warm and cozy and I loved it, but keep forgetting about it. I have everything in my closet already to duplicate this outfit, but with my leopard print coat. I know animal print is having a moment, but I feel like I will still be able to wear this coat for years to come. My best friend’s mother had a white swing coat in a similar fabric that we would swoon over, and it was from the 50’s. Who cares?  It was still a great coat. That’s what I am hoping for, anyway!  Great look, Jo-Lynne!

  9. Love this look and the color combo. These jackets looked so comfortable but I didn’t know if I could get on board…well Banana Republic Outlet had a black zipper one after Christmas for a great deal so I took the plunge. Wow!! Super comfortable and was it warm which I was surprised with the zipper was a nice bonus too. We are celebrating family day( Heritage Day) here and everything is closed! We are expecting the snow and ice tomorrow into Wednesday I believe so it’s making it’s tracks. Happy President Day

  10. I bought a long version of this coat from Marine Layer last fall. II wanted something I could easily wear over heavy sweaters and even sweatshirts so I ordered a larger size, and presto! I wear this coat daily. I wear it with snow boots, tennis shoes, and even hiking boots and it looks great. Bonus – I bought it at full price but within a week Marine Layer put it on sale. I e-mailed them to ask if they would adjust the price and they did!  That is the sign up a good company. I’ll definitely order from them again.

  11. I have been wanting one of these all season in camel but couldn’t pull the trigger on some of the other ones that I have seen due to prices. Unfortunately, this one is now sold out in camel in my size. Hopefully it will come back in stock!

  12. I love this. I have one similar that is reversible and it is so warm! I have a question on the zelle puffer jacket – it is on sale now and I am thinking of getting it but I noticed it does not have a zipper, just the snaps. Do you miss it having a zipper? I am getting the gray and blue one.

  13. So cute …the trim on shoes matches the coat!!,,
You hv done an amazing job keeping it fresh through
    Pandemic and rough winter!
We are under winter storm watch again…more snow
    and wind chills below zero!
    I need those boots!

  14. Just so cute on you. I’ve debated about ordering since you first showed this coat but I’m 5’3” 120lbs and just afraid it will be too long and oversized on me. I see they do have XS but says this coat made oversized. You really look cute in this outfit.
