One of my favorite fall outfit formulas for casual yet polished look is to pair a hoodie with a jacket or vest. It goes with pretty much any of my favorite jeans and sneaker combos, for an upscale sporty vibe that’s perfect for my casual lifestyle.

Cooper Quilted Vest (S) // Nordstrom Wool & Cashmere Hoodie (XS) // MOTHER Dazzler (29) // Vince Oasis-W (8) // Madewell tote // Celine sunglasses
The hoodie can be a sweatshirt or a sweater; I typically have a few of each in my fall/winter wardrobe. I recently added this ribbed wool & cashmere sweater hoodie to my closet, and it’s such a luxe knit. It runs big; I sized down to the XS.

I love camel and black together, so I paired this camel sweater with the Cooper Quilted Vest from Evereve. I also like how the two textures complement one another, the small scale ribbed knit with the larger scale diamond-shaped quilted pattern in the jacket.
STYLE TIP: They key with the hoodie and jacket/vest combo is to pull the hood outside of the coat or vest so it’s visible.

You could wear bootcut jeans or flares with booties and have a more elevated look, but I decided to keep it casual and sporty with straight ankle jeans and these low profile suede lace-up sneakers in the Merlot. I’ve been wanting to add some non-white sneakers to my wardrobe, and this muted shade of red is going to work great with all of the neutrals I tend to wear.

I kept my accessories simple, with just a pair of silver hoops, and my new Celine sunglasses that I got at the Saks Fall Sale, which ends tonight! I love these. The round shape is different for me, and they’re very comfortable too.

I also like the look of a leather bomber jacket over a sweater hoodie, like this olive and black Harriet Hoodie, also from Evereve. I’ve shared this look before, but I noticed this sweater just got restocked!!

AllSaints Orten Bomber (8) (budget options here and here) // Harriet Hoodie (M) // AG Mari (29) (also at Nordstrom) (budget option) // VEJA Esplar (39) // YSL sunnies (option)
My AllSaints Orten Bomber was an #NSale purchase, so I got a really good price on it. I also found some budget options here and here.

In this case, I went with washed black denim to coordinate with the black trim on the sweater, and I wore my VEJA sneakers with the black accents.

For an even more casual look, I love this hooded sweatshirt with the faded stripe details. It pairs so nicely with light wash jeans and pretty much any sneaker.

Jordyn Stripe Hoodie (M) // MOTHER Dazzler (29) // Adidas Spezial (8) (also at Adidas) // Pistola Utility Jacket (S)
This hoodie is really soft and cozy inside, and while the small fit, I kept the medium for a more generous fit.

In keeping with the casual vibe of this outfit, I topped it off with an oversized utility jacket in this gorgeous shade of Spice.

I love the way it’s gathered a bit in the back and has a subtle shirttail hem. This jacket runs really big. I’m in the small, and I ordered the XS to try before I take the tags off and keep one of them. Also, it’s on sale!

I wore the same MOTHER Dazzlers as in the first outfit, but this time I added brown suede sneakers. I just got these Adidas Spezial sneakers after seeing them on another influencer I follow, and I love them. I’m not really sure what the difference is between these and the Sambas, but I just loved this brown suede, so I googled and found them on Farfetch.

These sneakers are very comfortable, and I like that they aren’t quite as ubiquitous as the Samba. If you’re not sure about Farfetch, I’ve ordered from them before, and they’re legit. The shipping is really quick, and I’ve never had issues with returns.

I love this ultra casual look for the mild fall we’re having here in Philadelphia. I hope the XS jacket comes soon so I can make a final decision and start wearing one of them!

I hope this post gives you some ideas for styling hoodies this fall!

Cute! Love all the looks.
The Adidas are super cute but the price! Yikes! I was shocked! I just bought a pair of Adidas for $80.
I really enjoy an elevated sweatshirt. Mostly what I wear so thanks for showing us some options.
Maybe there is something spezial (pun intended)about this color, but the sneakers are available in many colors on the Adias website for $110.
And did you notice that on Farfetch, each size is a different price? That is odd, I don’t think I’ve ever seen that! And not just a few dollars, big differences, between a 9 at $164 and a 9-1/2 at $349???
Yes. I think they’re independent sellers.
Yeah it’s crazy for Adidas. That’s why I linked the Adidas website with other options. I just really like that color. And honestly, I don’t look around. These are the exact ones she linked.
I just did a google search like you suggested and found them on ASOS for $110! I love the brown suede. Did you just tuck the laces in or are they under the insole?
Nice! I just tucked them in the sides. The insole doesn’t lift out.
Thank you!
Love the colored sneakers. Hopefully I can start wearing my hoodies soon.
I love all 3 of these outfits and these are absolutely my casual style. I’ve been looking at colored suede sneakers since last winter but haven’t purchased any yet that is going to happen now. I just need to land on a color I want, I do love the cranberry you are wearing.
Love all the styles, my kind of casual looks shall have to look into the sneakers, love those too and you look great and comfy in all.
Did you take your normal size in the Adidas?
I had to size down. I think I have the 8. I ordered 8.5 and returned for the 8.
Is that a whole size down or just a 1/2 size? I was walking with a girlfriend yesterday and we were talking about clothes and shoes etc… got on the topic of the popular adidas trend and she said her son who’s a junior in college wears them (the original sambas) as well as all his guy friends and that all the adidas are unisex sizing which is why women need to size way down. But neither one of us has a pair so we we’d love to try on some in person but all the stores near us are out of stock. I’m a regular size 9.5, so would I order an 8.5? I’ve noticed since I retired that my feet have shrunk a 1/2 size and many of my athletic sneakers as well as my Vejas are slightly loose on me. Weird huh?
I never know how to answer sizing questions about sneakers. I usually need a 9 in running shoes like Brooks and Nike and On Cloud. I wear an 8 and sometimes 8.5 in boots and closed to shoes, an 8 or 7.5 in slides and sandals. I am always a 39 in Veja and p448 and I think 39 = 8.5-9. I wear 8 in Vince sneakers tho. So… for the Adidas Spezial I needed the 8.
Okay that helps a little. I’m going to order a pair you show here from and get an 8.5 and see if those work. Thank you!
Good morning!! I know you’re excited about your girls coming home. Hope you have a great time! I just purchased a sweater hoodie from Gap Factory along with a puffer vest. The sweater is so soft. I live in North Carolina and it’s still quite warm here. Gap Factory is a fun store. You never know what you will find. Have a great day!!
Love these looks! I’m a fan of the sneaker choice!
I hope that y’all have a safe and enjoyable trip! Yes, these ideas are very helpful. I like both pairs of your new sneakers.
Love all these looks! Will have to give it a try. I do not have but one hoodie. Something I would like to have more of. Thanks for the inspiration. Have fun this weekend and enjoy your way away. Happy Halloween 🎃
Very cute outfits. I love the hooded look with jackets.
Today is my babies 30 th bday. Halloween was my due date and I had him at 4:07 pm on Halloween. My treat. 😊Enjoy your weekend trip. I too hate to see October go by so fast.
I decided a while ago that hoodies are not for me. That flap of fabric hanging between my shoulder blades just seems unnecessary. 🙂 Quarter zips are more flexible.
I think I remember that you wear Bombas socks – is that what you wear with your Adidas? I just bought a pair of the Sambas and I’m trying to figure out the most comfortable no-show socks to wear with them!
I wear Bombas or Balega in my Brooks but I like the Sheec socks in my adidas and vejas and the like.
Love all the looks and thanks for showing how to style a hoodie.
I Really enjoy reading your blogs even though a lot of the items are not available to us.
