How to Wear Bright Colors for Spring 2022

Bright colors are trending this spring, and the trend reports often show columns of color and tone-on-tone ensembles, but I prefer to incorporate a bright piece of clothing into an otherwise neutral outfit like this.

Sundry hoodie c/o (S; options here & here) // Michael Stars tank in Flame c/o (S; option) // Edwin jeans c/o (28; option) // P448s (39; option) // YSL sunnies (option) // bracelet c/o // earrings c/o // necklace c/o

This coral tank was an Evereve find. In fact, I already have it in a stone color, but it comes in a lot of bright colors as well.

It’s on the pricier end of the spectrum, but it’s really nice quality — thick and stretchy and bra-friendly. I also found a scoop neck style at LOFT in a similar color for less.

I paired the coral tank with blue jeans. These are the Edwin Bree Straight, also from Evereve. They have a 10″ mid-rise and a 27″ inseam with a 13″ leg opening, which is a slim straight ankle jean.

The raw hem makes them easy to cut off if you want them shorter, and the wash is a versatile medium blue. They’re true to size, or size down if in between; I have the 28.

I topped it all off with this white zip-up hoodie. This sweatshirt caught my eye the first time I saw it on the Evereve website. It’s the perfect casual, comfy layer to throw on top of t-shirts and tanks this spring and summer.

I love the colorful wrapped drawstrings, and I also appreciate the shorter length. It’s perfect for wearing with shorts or skirts this summer, but it also works well with jeans for now.

It’s definitely pricey for a sweatshirt, so I looked around for a few other options. Gap Factory has a white zip-up hoodie that looks a little longer than this one, and Kohl’s has one in a slub jersey.

I added a few pieces of white and gold jewelry to keep the outfit light and summery. This stone stretch bracelet goes with almost everything, and it’s comfortable and easy to wear.

P448 sneakers keep this outfit casual and appropriate for our fickle spring weather. The exact pair I’m wearing is low inventory, but they come out with new ones all the time.

The John style is my favorite, but a lot of people like the Thea for a bit of a platform. And the Sam Edelman Aubrie is a good option for under $100.

  1. This is the type of everyday outfit I would wear, love it! Wish the hoodie was more affordable because the details are so nice; checked on the v-neck tank but the flame was not available however they did have a true red but the flame just works better. The Loft tee was a good bright color but rather have the v-neck one, I’m like you it has better coverage and a flattering neckline and really pops! May have to breakdown and get the hoodie, probably would wear it for years and years, love the length! Thanks for a great post and offering options of everything!

  2. I will say it’s been nice to see the brighter colors after a winter of black and grays! I’ve really gravitated towards the lilac and pinks! Thank you for providing the save options …
Just a quick question …Have you ever tried the high rise vintage denim jeans from Social Threads that everyone is going crazy over? There’s also a similar jean from Avara?

    1. I have the “jeans the broke the internet” 🤣 from Social Threads! They are very stretchy but also very thick. There is one distressing hole in the upper thigh that I don’t like at all. I almost gave them away, but this winter I wore them with black leggings underneath for extra warmth and to cover that annoying hole! I may cut them into shorts, but again they are so thick, they may be too hot for summer!

      1. Thank you Sue! I appreciate your feed back on the jeans.. I love the stretch idea but not a fan of thick denim.. thus was helpful 😊

  3. Well done! I really enjoyed the Spend/Save options. Sometimes we can get away with less expensive options and then sometimes you can’t. At any rate I would love to see more of these type articles. Thanks for all of your hard work – I know a tremendous amount of time and effort goes into your posts!

  4. Thanks for showing some more budget friendly options!! I don’t care to spend a lot of money on casual clothes that never get seen in the carpool line or worn to the track field.

  5. This is my kind of outfit! And I love how you show the spend/save for all of the items at the bottom of the post. It would be great if you did that regularly. Thank you. 🙂

  6. I love the Spend or Save segment!!! I know it’s a lot of work for you but it would be great to have it from time to time!

  7. This outfit looks so comfy. Nice to see the spend and save, but as one person said below…..sometimes it works to save and sometimes its best to get the better quality and spend more and have it last. I mentioned it already, but could you do a 5 ways to wear the Old Navy white long sleeve peasant blouse? So many of us ordered it and it would be fun to see it several ways. I love mine. Thanks for the recommendation. I know you have lots of post scheduled out already, so get it if you can’t. Do you wear yours much? Thanks for the detailed and fun post you do. You are my favorite. As for your weather, our news showed terrible storms on the East. The tornadoes are so scary and I just feel for those people. Hope your weather warms up for you. Yesterday was cool and drizzly for us NW Oregon people. Our typical Spring is one minute its sunny and the next showery and the next dry and start all over. Usually in the 50’s. But, that is what makes Oregon so green and pretty. We have to have the rain for that.

  8. Speaking of “Spend or Save” your posts on designer jeans is an area I like to save. I have tried my share of designer jeans and I find them to be just ok, but my Old Navy jeans or my Gap jeans fit great and are so comfortable. I like seeing a designer option but also an economical option as well. Have a great day:)

  9. I really like this simple but elevated casual look. I would have to recreate it with more economical pieces, but that’s okay! I hope you are having a great day!

  10. Thank you for sharing the spend/save comparison. It’s helpful when I’m deciding what clothing to invest in. I know I’d be more likely to spend more on jeans and shoes. But then I’d choose to save on a item like a bright tank top. Who knows what colors will be in next year?

  11. Love this! I wear outfits like this a lot, and love to see different ways to wear them, or different accessories that I might not have thought to put together. Really like your “spend or save” graphic and really appreciate the time and effort you put into that!

  12. Love this look and cudos on the “Spend/Save” option. I purchased a white hoodie and a light pink one at Old Navy 2 years ago and they both get worn almost daily in the Fall/Winter/Spring here in the south. The Summer too for those establishments that blast the a/c. They have held up really well and like you I like the shorter length. I looked for them this Spring at ON, but didn’t see them. I LOVE the little colors at the ends of the ties on yours.
I purchased the ON LS Peasant Blouse a few weeks before you posted yours (I also have it in off white from last year) and I wore it a LOT.
You have almost convinced me to purchase the P448 sneakers (do they run TTS?). I adore the Maya V neck Tank so, I may have to have it in the Hot Pink Color.
I want to thank you for all of the research and the detail of your posts! They help so much and therefore I buy several of your suggestions. I find some of the other bloggers lacking in the detail areas, and I applaud your keep or return comments.
I too am a big fan of Florida especially the Gulf, but since we are only a few hours away from Hilton Head Island, we go there. We love all that HHI has to offer and it is beautiful and so much fun, but I do miss the sugar white beaches of the gulf.
    Thanks for being you!
