How to Wear Jelly Sandals (Without Looking Too Juvenile)

Jelly sandals definitely weren’t on my bingo card this season. When I first heard they were making a comeback, I immediately dismissed the idea. I never imagined they could feel polished enough to fit my personal style, but somehow, here I am with four pairs of jelly sandals in my spring and summer wardrobe!

As a woman in her 50s who likes to keep things fairly polished, jelly sandals might not seem like an obvious choice. But I’ve found that the right pair can actually add a fun, modern touch without making me feel like I raided my daughter’s closet. The key, I think, is choosing styles that feel a little more elevated and styling them with clean, understated outfits.

I also like that jelly sandals come in so many different silhouettes and price points—from casual slides to kitten heel styles to more minimal thong sandals. In today’s post, I’m sharing three ways I’ve been styling them lately, along with a few thoughts on what makes this trend feel chic rather than childish.

Minimal & Understated: Strappy Jelly Sandals

Technically, my first pair of jelly sandals isn’t new this season. You may remember the Loeffler Randall Dana Brown Strappy Jelly Sandals I fell in love with last summer. I still have them and can’t wait to start wearing them again now that our weather is warming up.

They have a flat plank footbed and a minimalist strappy design with gold ball detailing that has inspired multiple “dupes” on the market. The leather version is gorgeous, but this jelly material gives them a fresh, playful twist while still keeping the overall look sleek and understated.

I wore them here with wide-leg jeans with a shoelace drawstring waist and a chocolate brown ribbed tank for a casual look with a bit of boho flair that’s right up my alley. But I’ve also worn them with everything from dark-wash wide-leg jeans and a cashmere sweater tank to a printed midi dress and other simple summer basics. That’s what makes this pair such a favorite—they’re playful, but still incredibly wearable.

Elevated & Modern: Woven Jelly Heels

Fast forward to this season, and the first style I tried—the one that made me realize I wasn’t one-and-done with the jelly sandal trend—was these Dolce Vita Galae Heels.

I was drawn to these because they felt a little more elevated than your typical flat jelly sandal. With the woven slide strap and tapered flare 2.5″ heel, they have a sleek, modern, dressed-up feel. They’re perfect for wearing with dresses or adding a polished touch to my favorite denim, as seen here.

I styled them with light-wash straight ankle jeans and an ivory and light blue crochet sweater that coordinates beautifully with the denim. The jeans are just a smidge too long to hit as a true ankle length on me, so the heel gives them just enough lift to make the proportions work.

I also like how the brown jelly sandals add a warm contrast to the cool tones of the outfit, and I repeated that rich brown tone with a wood beaded bag to tie it all together.

A Two-for-One Trend: Thong Jelly Kitten Heels

I’ve also been really drawn to the thong sandal silhouette on a kitten heel. It feels like such a great two-for-one trend this season, since thong kitten heel sandals are having a moment, and the minimal shape really appeals to my inner minimalist.

I actually mentioned this silhouette in yesterday’s summer 2026 fashion trends post, and it’s one I think feels especially chic right now.

I first noticed the Veronica Beard Clea, and I loved the mix of the wooden footbed and low kitten heel. That combination of textures felt really chic to me. Somewhere along the way, I also came across the Vince San Juan, and when I was at the mall a few weeks ago, I ended up trying both on. As it turned out, I liked the fit of the Vince much better—it had a wider footbed that worked better for my feet, a little more visual weight, and I liked the lucite kitten heel.

I actually purchased that pair, but in the meantime, the Steve Madden team offered to send me their Tracie Jelly.

When I had both the Vince and Steve Madden pairs at home to compare side by side, I ended up preferring the Steve Maddens. They felt a little lighter, both visually and literally, and for the difference in price, I just couldn’t justify keeping the Vince.

I feel like this thong sandal silhouette on a kitten heel is such a nice mix of elevated and casual, which really suits my style. And I think the jelly detail adds just enough fun without making it feel too serious.

Casual & Playful: Jelly Flip-Flops

This next pair is definitely the most casual and playful of the three, but I’ve also worn them with jeans and other simple basics when I want an easy summer sandal that still feels a little fun.

This next pair is definitely the most casual and playful of the three, and it actually brings me full circle—right back to Loeffler Randall. The Taryn Brown Jelly Flip Flops immediately drew me in because of the unexpected mix of the black foam footbed, brown jelly thong straps, and clear rhinestone embellishments. They’re such a fun combination of the ultra-casual feel of poolside flip-flops, a little sparkle, and the nostalgia of the jelly straps.

I’m always drawn to pieces that feel a little different without going too far out there, and these checked that box for me right away. I’ve already worn them a ton with everything from shorts to different styles of denim.

I actually think they look especially chic with my more casual wide-leg full-length jeans, where they just peek out a bit and catch the eye. But for this look, I styled them with jean shorts and a simple ribbed tank for an easy, casual summer outfit that feels fresh and fun.

What Makes Jelly Sandals Feel Chic Rather Than Childish?

  • Choose sleeker silhouettes (kitten heels, minimal straps, woven details)
  • Pair them with polished basics (denim, linen pants, midi dresses)
  • Lean into modern neutrals
  • Keep accessories simple and intentional

Quick Q&A on Jelly Sandals

Do jelly sandals make your feet sweat?
This is probably the most common question I get! In my experience, no. I haven’t had any issues with sweaty feet, and I’ve heard other influencers who love jelly flats say the same. Maybe it varies by brand, style, or quality, but that hasn’t been my experience—even with pairs that have a jelly footbed.

Are jelly sandals uncomfortable?
Not for me! The pairs I’ve tried have all been very comfortable. As with any shoe, fit matters, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how wearable they are.

Do jelly sandals rub or cause blisters?
So far, that hasn’t been my experience. The pairs I’ve tried have all been surprisingly comfortable, but like any sandal, fit and where the straps hit your foot really matter. I’d still recommend breaking in a new pair gradually, especially if the straps sit in a spot that tends to rub.

Jelly Sandals I’m Loving Right Now

If you’re looking to try the trend, here are a few more jelly sandal styles in a range of silhouettes and price points that caught my eye.

Final Thoughts on the Jelly Sandal Trend

At the end of the day, I think jelly sandals are one of those trends that can work for almost anyone—it really comes down to silhouette and styling. Whether you lean more minimal, polished, playful, or somewhere in between, there are so many options now that make this trend feel fresh and wearable.

How about you? Are you trying the jelly sandal trend this season, or sitting this one out?

  1. Not sure the “jelly” trend hit me BUT the “can this shoe be cute and still trudge through a puddle” style YES. So….I don’t technically own a “jelly” shoe but I do have the croc version which is a bit different so not the ugly croc clog BUT instead the cute toe ring flat and thick strap across foot wedge. I will keep my eyes out for a cute jelly cause I like the concept.

  2. Jelly sandals are cute……but not with kitten heels. I’m not sure kitten heels are a good choice for me but not for anyone with any type of foot problems or anyone worried about stability. They just don’t look very stable.

  3. I think I’m going to sit this one out. I really need arch support and cushion in my footwear these days and the flat footbed would cause me pain over the course of a day. I could get a flip flop style to wear by the pool but not to walk any distance. They are cute! Thinking…

    1. I agree with your assessment, Joanna! My 45-year-old daughter would love these jelly sandals, not me! I already have cute pool flip flops and can wear them when at the pool or beach, but that’s about it! The jelly sandals with the heel are an accident ready to happen! HA!! The sandals I have with a kitten heel have a backstrap and more coverage over the top of the foot.

  4. The ones you featured are fairly sophisticated looking, so I may consider this trend. With my usual challenge of finding a pair that fits me properly. 🙂

  5. Sorry this one is not for me. Like others, I need some support in my shoe and also dont want ”plastic” shoes that make my feet perspire. Much prefer a leather shoe any day of the week. That said, I do think they look nice.

  6. I considered buying brown kitten heel jelly sandals a few weeks ago when I found a pair at Nordstrom Rack, but like another commenter was concerned about stability, so I passed. But I did just get a pair of flat jelly mules that were surprisingly comfortable & airy. I’ve completely worn out an old pair of loafer mules I loved so am hoping these can serve a similar purpose for warmer weather. Planning to wear mostly with jeans but still need to try them with more of my summer outfits. Thx for the jelly shoe overview!

  7. I think they are so cute! I need to find a pair with a strap on the back, but without anything in between the toes

  8. I’m passing on this trend. I need more support. I would wear them around the pool. They look cute on you.

  9. I was ahead of this trend! I have a pair of flat clear jelly sandals that I bought 4-5 yrs ago. They have silver studs on them–so cute!

I don’t like the look of heeled flip-flops–although I don’t like flip-flops period–they look so uncomfortable. So I will pass on those.

  10. I like the throwback to childhood without looking childish. The jellies I had growing up were not comfortable. They were a full shoe similar to ballet flats. I remember blisters and rubbing. Not sure my feet could take that at my age now. So that’s my hang-up. I question the comfort. Do the straps cut in when you walk? I’m thinking especially with the woven slide style.

  11. I’ve actually been on the look-out for a pair of jelly flats. I like the idea of the sandals, too. What’s attracting me to them is that they’re a little unexpected, fun, and they aren’t too precious – at least not the ones I’m looking at. I have also been focusing on finding a pair in a sophisticated color-way, to keep them from looking juvenile.

  12. I like all the ones you styled. Who knew they could look so nice. Great post. I’m not buying any as I just felt the straps would rub. Plus I don’t need to be buying anymore shoes. lol

  13. I am trying! I have the Loeffler jelly flip-flops on their way as well as the Dolce Vita Kenley jelly sandal! Can’t wait to try them both. I’m now eyeing the Steve Madden thongs you are wearing. Love those too!

  14. Love all of the outfits you are styling with the jelly sandals. Sitting this one out too. I need orthotic support like others have mentioned.
