Instagram Roundup 07.22.17

As if you didn’t see enough mirror selfies yesterday (lol) I have an Instagram Roundup today! I was tempted to wait a week so I’d have more pictures, but then I decided to go ahead and post these and then do a beach edition next weekend.

This will be a mish-mosh of fall and summer style due to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale happening during one of the hottest and most humid weeks of July on record so I hope I don’t give you whiplash. LOL!

Admittedly, I haven’t been great about recording my daily outfits, mainly because they haven’t been worth recording. I’ve spent the better part of my days behind my computer screen or at the pool for the past couple of weeks and I’ve been living in jean shorts and t-shirts and ponytails and giving myself a lot of grace.

Anyway, that’s enough with the disclaimers. It is what it is! Let’s get started.

#1. Here I am back in Maine. Ahhhh…. I can almost feel the cool lake breeze. Nope, it’s still 75 degrees with 93% humidity at 6am. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted! Haha.

Paige Linnea tee // Splendid thermal cardigan // AG raw hem jeans // Converse Shoreline kicks // similar red crossbody

This outfit is made up of basics that I love and have worn over and over for a year or more. That means that most are on the pricier side, but I always think more in terms of cost per wear than the ticket price.

The stripe tee is one I included in my 5 favorite t-shirts post. It is no longer available in this exact print, but there are several stripe and solid options available and several are 33% off. Paige makes a really nice t-shirt, and while it’s spendy, it holds up and looks great wash after wash and wear after wear.

The thermal cardigan is my go-to travel cardigan and what I love to throw on over my pajamas in the mornings. I’ve featured it a lot over the years, and it’s consistently a reader favorite. I have it in black and swan (shown here.) It occasionally goes on sale, so you can hold out for that, but honestly, I paid full price and I don’t regret it.

These AG raw hem skinnies are just like my favorite distressed pair but with no rips. I probably wear one of these two pairs of jeans five days out of the week so I figure the cost per wear will eventually justify the price tag. I did get them both on sale and highly recommend that. There is a similar pair on the #NSale, but they are currently sold out.

I wear my white Chucks all year round. They have such a great casual cool vibe and once you wear them in, they’re quite comfortable. I recommend these socks.

My bag is sold out so I linked to a similar style, and I also think this drawstring bucket bag is super cute. I love the contrast of the red bag against the shades of blue and white.

#2. This is what I wore to church and out to lunch when we were in Maine.

layered shell (50% off with code SUMMER17) // white jeans (similar for less + 50% off with code SUMMER17) // thong sandals // gold disc necklace // white stone drop earrings

This layered shell from LOFT is currently 50% off with code SUMMER17. I like the double V neck and how it is double layered so it’s not sheer at all. It’s also nice that you can wear a regular bra with it. I will say that it’s kind of billowy, so you have to be okay with that. I wish it were a little more structured. That said, it’s one of the hottest colors for fall so you can wear it now and then layer a blazer or jean jacket on top this fall and winter. For size reference, I’m wearing a small. I also really like this navy floral version.

These are my go-to white skinnies. They are well over a year old, and I wear them at least weekly all year round. They’ve held up great, and the fit is fantastic. You’ll probably want to size up one in these. A great similar for less option is the LOFT modern skinny jeans and they are currently 50% off with code SUMMER17.

SALE ALERT >> LOFT has 50% off everything for a limited time! Use code SUMMER17.

After my sand patent Tory Burch Miller sandals, these gold Sam Edelman Gigi thong sandals are my favorite flat sandals. They are comfortable and the gold is so pretty and goes with everything. I advise sizing up a half size in these.

#3. This is the day we visited Northeast Harbor on Mt. Desert Island. It was overcast but the view was stunning just the same. If anyone is wondering, my son wasn’t with us because he got a job as a camp counselor this summer.

tie front tank // raw hem jeans // initial pendant

I’ve talked about this tie front tank a lot. I have it in the medium, and it does shrink up some in the dryer, but it grows as you wear it. It’s comfortable and cool, and the rust color is great for transitioning to fall, although I see it’s selling out. It also comes in olive and white. Olive is a big trend for fall and would be a good choice, if you like that color near your face.

Style tip: olive looks amazing paired with black or white and cognac shoes and bag, but it also works with blue jeans.

I’ve had some requests to talk about necklaces and how to pair them with different necklines. I’m a huge fan of a long pendant for elongating the upper body and drawing the eye in and down towards the waist. The idea is to create the illusion of an hourglass shape. This style of necklace works particularly well with a crew neckline or a round neckline, but you can wear it with a v-neck as well.

#4. Speaking of which, this next outfit shows the same necklace with a wide v-neck top. I wore this outfit to drive home from Maine. In fact, I took this selfie in the parking lot of a rest stop. LOL!

thermal cardigan // similar navy linen tee // AG raw hem ankle skinnies (similar for less) // Tory Burch Miller sandals // LV Neverfull // initial pendant

It’s that thermal cardigan again, and these jeans have had so much airtime on this blog over the past year that you’re all probably sick of seeing them. Even in the summer, I wear them several days a week. They have a way of softening up with wear but they never bag out. If you’re interested in finding the look for less, Vigoss makes a pretty good dupe that is part of the #NSale and currently only $41.

I can’t find anything online quite like this navy linen tee. It’s more of a top than a tee. It has a really great shape to it — relaxed without being sloppy. It’s from LOFT last year and the most similar thing they have to it this season is this vintage swing tee, but it’s not as flattering. #bahhumbug

These sandals and my Neverfull are on constant repeat these days, and I was wearing a navy blue nail polish on my feet. I’m sorry, but I don’t know the exact name. It’s a Zoya color.

#5. I wore this the day I went to shop the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I wanted something I could pull off and on easily.

The top is an oldie but goodie from White House Black Market. Sorry, but I don’t have a link to anything similar.

These ankle skinnies in mauve are by 7 For All Mankind. I really love the fit and the released hem, but they stretch out and slide down as you wear them. I still wear them, though! They go on sale occasionally, but right now are full price.

I thought the white sandals were a nice pop and bookend the look with the white on top as well. I’ve had these sandals for years — they were my first Tory Burch Miller sandals. My mom gifted them to me for my birthday one year. I tend to go for the sand patent ones now that I have them, but the white is fun sometimes. These are part of the #NSale and are 33% off, if you want a white Tory Burch sandal that isn’t quite as pricey. They’re selling out fast, but a few sizes are left at the moment of this posting.

Speaking of necklaces and necklines, in a wide v-neckline like this, I usually like to wear a shorter pendant that sits in that open area. This one is pretty dainty, but I wanted something that wouldn’t get in the way when I was trying on clothes. Normally I’d wear something a little larger. This is also a good opportunity to layer two dainty pieces, like I did with this v-neck sweater last winter.

Stella & Dot Celestial Choker and The Wishing Necklace

#6. This is one of my #NSale outfits — but that probably goes without saying, lol! For anyone wondering, I purchased this outfit and plan to keep it all.

tie front sweater // AG jeans (similar for less) // booties (similar and still in stock) // RM hobo

I really love the tie front sweater. It’s easy to throw on and go but the tie is a cute detail. It’s still available but in limited sizes and colors.

My booties have sold out but these Vince Camuto ones are very similar and just as good.

The RM hobo is amazing and I’m so glad it’s still in stock. The leather is insanely soft, and I like how the moss color is neutral enough to go with lots of things but it’s still a color. The gold studded shoulder strap makes it, though. The black/gold one is a nice option too. I particularly like how the silver hardware stands out on the black.

These AG jeans were super popular, and they’ve finally sold out. Shopbop and Bloomingdales both carry AG jeans and run sales several times a year. I’ll definitely give y’all a heads up the next time I see a good deal on them.

If you’re looking for other denim options, this pair of Paige is one of the best denim deals in the #NSale and they are currently fully stocked! At $99, they are almost half off. They also have a bootcut style if that’s what you prefer. For jeans under $50, this Wit & Wisdom pair is really good. They do stretch some so size down one.

#7. The day after my marathon #NSale shopping trip, I headed to the nail salon in some of my new duds. I feel like I’ve talked ad nauseam about everything I’m wearing in this outfit so I’ll pass on the commentary here! If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments.

long cardigan // Pardon My French tee (size up) // AG raw hem jean shorts (similar for less + 50% off with code SUMMER17) // TB Miller sandals // LV Neverfull // earrings

#8. I wore this dress to church on Sunday. It’s still full price (and yay, fully stocked!) but it’s a nice choice if you need something for a summer wedding or event. You can see more of this dress in this post.

linen sheath // TB Miller sandals // earrings // similar bag

#9. This is another #NSale outfit. I’ll copy and paste what I wrote about it in yesterday’s post.

3/4 sleeve cardigan // similar cami // jeans (high rise alternative) // pendant // flats

This is probably my favorite cardigan in the entire sale. It is super thin and lightweight, and it has 3/4 sleeves so it’s definitely best for early fall or areas with mild winters, but it’s really cute and flattering and so super soft. It is one size fits 4-16, so it’s amazing that it isn’t more voluminous, but it drapes nicely and really works. The fact that it is one size (and cashmere, of course) makes it a nice idea for gift giving as well.

The Topshop cami is old and I don’t like their new one as much, unfortunately.

I’m undecided on these Tory Burch ballet flats. I LOVE the look of them, but at this price I expected them to be more comfortable.

This gold pendant is highly versatile and I wear it a ton. It comes in gold and silver.

#10. Here’s a flat lay for something different.

circle cardigan // similar cami // merlot skinnies // similar booties // glazed leather crossbody

This super popular circle cardigan did sell out, but if you want one, keep checking back. I expect they’ll get some returns.

These 7FAM jeans are so so so flattering. I like the raw hem and the ankle length plus they’re under $100. If you’re looking for a more budget-friendly price point, check out this pair at $41 and this pair at $52.

And this bag… all the heart eye emojis for this bag! I used to love the Hobo brand and had a couple of their bags and a wallet, but I haven’t had one in a while. I think the glazed leather is so pretty in this Ash color, and it also comes in black.

#11. I wore this to take my daughter and her friend to the mall. Nothing new here!

twist front tee // white shorts (similar for less + 50% off) // thong sandals // pendant // glazed leather crossbody

My pendant is twisted (ooops!) but this is another example of how a long pendant works nicely over a rounded neckline.

#12. Another day, another flat lay.

tie sleeve popover // AG jeans // BP. booties // RM hobo

I love this top and can’t wait to start wearing it, and I really like how the colors of the hobo and booties play into the colors of the blouse. This is the ivory birch tapestry floral print, and there are several to choose from.

These booties run very small. I sized up to a 9, and I typically wear 8 or 8.5 in booties. They are comfortable and versatile, and for the price, you can’t beat them.

#13. Finally, this is what I wore yesterday to go to the nail salon and work from home. I know, exciting life I lead! This is a perfect example of how a white tee and jeans can look cute and put together. (At least that’s what I hoped to achieve here, lol!)

boyfriend tee*// AG raw hem ankle skinnies (similar for less) // Frye sandals – super old! // RM hobo // similar leopard belt here and here

Several of the components of this outfit are old. With my blog, I tend to feel like I have to have a link for everything I wear, but sometimes I just want to wear an old favorite, lol! I’m trying to do that more because that’s real life, and I fear I’ve fallen into the trap of thinking I always have to have something new to share.

These Frye sandals are almost 10 years old. I bought them before a blogging conference one summer, and I love them. They’re just the right mix of classic and edgy, plus they’re great quality. I don’t wear them much anymore, but I can’t bear to part with them. I can’t find anything out there quite like them, but you can see some of the current Frye flat sandals on the Nordstrom website or on theFryeCompany.com.

This tee is from my friend Carly at Thirty Something Fashion. I’ve worn her Perfect Tee a lot, and this is her new Boyfriend Tee. It’s got a rounded neckline and a more relaxed fit, and the material is just a little bit thicker. I still like the perfect tee the best but this is a nice alternative if you like a more relaxed fit. I wear a medium in her Perfect Tee and this is a small in the Boyfriend Tee, but seeing how it looks on her, I think maybe I’d like the medium better.

And that’s a wrap! We’re off to the beach today, and I couldn’t be more excited. Have a great weekend!

  1. I waited too long on the RM hobo bag although I was thinking maybe a black bag is the way to go, I need one and the color isn’t trendy? I do have the RM backpack purse on back order? Tough decisions!

    1. It is pretty in the black and would be classic but has a bit of an edge with the studs on the handle. I like it a lot! (And I do use a black bag a lot in the wintertime, so I think it’s a good color to have as long as it isn’t your only neutral.)

  2. love the circle cardigan missed out on it I will keep checking in case like you said there is some returns. Do you find your girls following you fashion style they are so pretty. Have fun at the beach. I have just finished my Business Management Degree so taken a long week end to go and do something fun. Following your styles as packing Thank You

  3. Thank for this great recap. I want to ask you about the glazed leather crossbody. In your picture it looks taupe but in the Nordstrom pic it looks tan. I’m trying to find a bag to go with my new TB Miller Sand flats and I need a new crossbody.

    1. It is more of a taupe. It’s okay with the sand Miller sandals but not a match by any means. I like to carry a cognac/medium brown bag with my sand Miller sandals. When I’m not carrying my Neverfull, I usually go for my Tory hobo in her Bark color. It’s not on sale, but this one is really pretty: https://rstyle.me/n/cqpriygthw Or maybe this: https://rstyle.me/n/cqpri5gthw but I like the color of the first one better I think. This is lighter but would go well and is very versatile: https://rstyle.me/n/cqprjigthw

  4. Thank you so much for your comments on the items from the Nordstroms anniversary sale. I particularly like the information about fit and sizing, whether item is see through and can be worn with a regular bra. I am 20 years older than you but find your fashion timeless. Thanks for all your hard work with your blog. Enjoy the Jersey shore.

  5. I have a tip to share with you about preparation for staying in a home where you have to furnish your linens. I keep sheets bagged up in the bags that linens come in when you purchase them, so that when we are going to our financial planners mountain cabin for a get away, all I have to do is grab them. I realize I know the size of the beds. We use big plastic containers to transport the linens and groceries so that other stuff can sit on them or they can go on the outside carrier, if need be.

    Thanks for the roundup!

I hope y’all have a fantastic time at the shore and that the weather will be great. Looking forward to some pics!

  6. I like that you’ve decided to show some “oldies but goodies”. While I love to see you style new stuff (my wonderful husband, not so much. Lol. He knows that means a package will be arriving soon!) I loved the white tee and jeans post. That’s something we all have in our closet and I for one never think to wear something so simple yet seeing how you jazzed it up with a necklace has me wanting to duplicate your look! Thanks for all the wonderful inspiration!! Out of all the bloggers I follow you are my favorite. I just love your style and how reading your daily emails makes it feel like we’re old friends catching up!! Have a wonderful vacation!!

  7. Hi Jo-Lynne, what size do you wear in the thermal cardigan? I’m in the UK, but it is availavle on UK Amazon. I’ve been looking for a good, long, cardi so long, I’m willing to take the plunge… would it go over long sleeve tops too or is it more for going over short or no sleeves? Also, after baby coming in November, I’m expecting a bit of a mum tum. So I don’t want to wear a fitted tee under a cardi. What else could I wear? Thanks

    1. Hey Emma. I have the medium, it is one of those things that you can go either way, but I like that the medium can be tossed in the dryer. The sleeves are on the tighter side so I haven’t tried it over a long sleeve tee but it would probably work. It’s great over tank tops – you can wear it over ones that aren’t fitted.

      1. Hey, thanks for your reply. Medium sounds good. One more question-does it cover your backside? I was looking for something long enough to wear with leggings. I’m not a huge fan of leggings, but during pregnancy and afterwards for a few months, they are so comfortable…

        1. It definitely doesn’t cover the entire backside. It probably depends on your height, but at 5’5″ and short waisted, it cuts right across the middle of my rear. 🙂

          1. Ah, thanks a lot. I will keep hunting then. I’m 5’7 and short waisted, and it sounds like it wouldn’t cover my backside. Leggings and visible backside – big no no, LOL, so I think for now I need to look for something else.

  8. I always carry hobo style purses, but am thinking I need to mix in some cross body styles for a sore persistent neck.. I love the color of the cross body Reghan hobo. Can you tell me when it is on the shortest hole, how short can it get hanging down? It would be great to have a cross body that I can also wear on my side and have it hit just above hip length. I saw that it had a 20 – 25 ” drop. Does this mean on its shortest hole the top of the purse hits at 20″ from your shoulder?

  9. Hi Jo-Lynne, I’ve been looking at that BP Twist front tee, and on the Nordstrom site it looks like the neckline is a plain, flat T-shirt neckline, but when you post pics of you wearing it, it always looks like the neckline is gathered. Does it pucker that badly after washing? Or am I just seeing things and it’s really flat?

    1. I know I answered this via email yesterday so sorry for the duplicate, but for those reading along in the comments, it does pucker. It needs an iron but I’m lazy. 🙂 I try to take it out of the dryer immediately so I don’t have to iron it and it is fine everywhere except the neckline. For the price, I am willing to overlook it.

  10. I love you blog and seeing the outfits you put together. It is nice to know the trends to keep our wardrobes updated. It’s good to see you repeating the same jeans or tops in different ways because that is real. We all do it because we can’t wear something new each and every day. I reall like your style but I am not crazy about distressed jeans. In 50 years as our families are looking back at our photos can you imagine what they will be thinking (look at my poor grandmother she couldn’t afford to buy clothes or she worked so hard she wore holes in her jeans or_______). You can fill in the blank with your own response. Lol. Thanks again for a great blog. Have a wonderful trip to the beach!

  11. Thanks for taking the time to create another wonderful post in the midst of packing for your beach trip. I so appreciate all of the information about what necklaces to wear with the different necklines. I absolutely loved the picture of the white tee and jeans. That is such an easy-to-replicate outfit that we all can pull from our closets and you have shown us how to make it look so chic. Without a doubt, you are the best fashion blogger out there! Enjoy your beach time.

  12. I need to remember white tees and jeans more. And there is just something about the wash on AG jeans that make them so perfect for white tees.

I may be crazy, but I ended up returning the Leith cardigan. It was the most perfect shade of pink but it felt kinda fussy to me (the pockets for one, and I never could get it aligned in the front or shoulders). The cardigans I ordered were so great though, I even had to send back ones I loved to stay in budget. It took everything to return the camel Topshop cardi. I LOVED that thing. It was just the least practical and versatile of all the others.

    1. I understand why you returned the Leith. I still have the tags on… deciding. I do sort of wish I’d bought that Topshop cardi. Every time I see it on another fashion blogger, I regret not getting it. But it’s definitely not as versatile as some.
