Putting My Best Foot Forward for Spring with Nordstrom

Last week we talked about five tips for transitioning our wardrobes from winter to spring, and I think my favorite is with my choice of shoes. I don’t know about you, but I am so ready to ditch the boots and booties and start wearing pumps, loafers, and sandals.

In fact, I’ve been putting my money where my mouth is, and I think I’ve ordered a half dozen pair of shoes in the last few weeks… in the name of blog research, of course. Ha!

My go-to place to shop for shoes is Nordstrom because they have the most extensive shoe department, a generous return policy, and I’m totally addicted to their BOPUS (buy online pick up in store) option. Whether you’re looking for luxury labels, mid-priced contemporary brands, or budget-friendly finds, Nordstrom has it all.

They also have the best search functionality of any website I know. You can drill down by type of shoe, size, heel height, price point, and color to narrow down your selections, or simply browse the thousands of options from top brands.

Today’s look features these perforated shield sandals by the Nordstrom private label, Halogen.

I love how these shoes walk the line between booties and sandals, making them one of the best transition shoes for spring.

They’re made of the softest nubuck leather, and the buckled slingback allows you to adjust them to fit your foot, plus the chunky stacked heel provides great stability for a 3 1/2″ heel.

I’m wearing the blush, but they also come in dark grey and black, and they’re true to size. I’m wearing my usual 8.

The rest of the outfit is all from my closet, and I went with a combination of light neutrals. I love wearing grey, white, denim, and blush together.

These white jeans are my go-to. They look great with everything from boots to pumps, ballet flats to mules, sneakers to sandals, and everything in between. They run small; I recommend sizing up one full size from your normal.

This denim jacket has a flattering fit and tons of stretch for the ultimate comfort. It runs big; I have it in a small.

And the grey sweater underneath has been on serious repeat lately! It’s just so comfy and cute. I love the neckline and the texture and the relaxed-casual vibe.

I love how this classic combination of white jeans, grey sweater, and mid-wash denim jacket look like spring, but the layers are warm enough to keep me comfortable on a chilly day.

The perforated sandals will be great when the weather warms up some, but meanwhile I’ve worn this outfit with grey loafers, orange moccasins, grey booties, and taupe mules.

  1. Oh I can’t wait to switch the footwear. Woke up to sunny skies and a crazy wind and temps feeling like -18 degrees Celsius… blah. Please I hope when spring arrives it will active warm. Love the shoes I have a very similar pair… very comfy

  2. Shoes are just the best! I’ve been eyeing several styles for spring and am leaning towards some Sperry mules or loafers in cognac. And you are so right about Nordstrom’s website—it is the easiest & most user friendly site out there! I dealt with J Crew’s for a bit over the weekend and finally gave up.

  3. This is one of my go to spring outfit combinations. I just never know what shoes to wear with it and I’ve been looking for some grey spring booties or something similar to what your wearing, looks great. Also you did a great job describing your brand the other day.

  4. Why is it that you look great in this mixed neutrals outfit, but when I try to put a similar outfit together, my eyes say, “YUCK!”  I just don’t get it!  I really like the two necklaces in the shopping widget.  I am going to check them out.  Good luck today!

  5. Good morning….Such a great transitional outfit. I always dread having to put the sandals away in the fall so I can’t wait to pull them out again!  I’m also ready for bright springy toenail polish….tired of the darks and burgundies!   Do you mind sharing the pretty pink color on your toes?  Have a great day.

  6. Aloha from Hawaii!🌸
So grateful for a tropical break and ditching parkas and Sorrels for flip flops and tank tops. Yes, we are all psychologically ready for spring to arrive. Whether Mother Nature cooperates or not remains to be seen. Love the shoes and outfit!

  7. Those sandals/booties really up the look of simple jeans, tee and jean jacket. They look comfy. I can’t even think of open toe shoes yet. This weekend, I plan on going through my spring clothes and seeing what I need to replace. I did buy two floral tops, which is so unlike me. I think they promised spring. 😉

  8. I love your entire outfit, JoLynne.  Your shoes are the perfect touch to a beautiful Spring style. I didn’t use to shop at Nordstrom, but because of you, it’s my very favorite store!

  9. Help! I purchased grey jeggings at Chico’s with the help of a (friend?) and didn’t try them on. Upon trying on they bunched around the ankles and it’s too late to return them. I now must have them hemmed. I also purchased grey booties to go with them (haven’t come in yet). Please tell me how the jeggings should be hemmed to go with the booties as I don’t believe you tuck in to short booties. Thx

  10. I love shoes!!! I once bought four pair at one time and I kept them all😉  I love Nordstrom for shoes because I am a size 5 and very few other places carry a large assortment of that size.  I can usually find something there.  Bought a pair like the ones you are styling last fall and I get a lot of wear out of them.  Bring on spring…please!

  11. One of my absolute favorite color combos for spring! I’m truly regretting selling my makeup Millers now that it’s almost sandal weather here. I’m seriously considering buying them again if there’s ever another sale. I know, I’m nuts, lol.

      1. Yes! I sold them late fall/early winter because I’d finally scored the sand patent ones on sale and didn’t think I needed both (I liked the ease of care with the patents). Of course, my judgement was skewed by the time of year and thinking about all things cozy at the time, lol. Now I keep remembering outfits I loved with them, but I don’t have them anymore 😢. So now I have the sand and the darker brown.
