Saturday Morning Coffee Talk

It’s another super late version of Saturday Morning Coffee Talk! I’m just a lazy bum this year, that’s all there is too it.

coffee-talk-2015

Actually, last night I thought I was getting sick again. I had to cancel plans I had with my girlfriends (boo! hiss!) and go to bed. I dug out my essential oils and slathered some Thieves and diffused some lemon. I’m such an essential oils flunkie. I do think they make a lot of sense, and I know they work for a lot of people, but I don’t think I’ve been consistent enough with them to see any significant results. Although I do love that diffuser. It makes the room smell so nice. But anyway.

I woke up this morning feeling some better. I think this is just a headcold, not another round of the flu as I had originally feared. I’m hoping I can drown it with Emergen-C and it won’t amount to anything.

I realize I’ve slacked off with these Coffee Talk posts. It’s not that I have nothing to say, but I’ve been pretty wrapped up in trying out new newsletter and email subscription platforms and trying to figure out what I want to do with all my email subscriptions. See, even when I’m not swamped with sponsored posts, I find a way to create work for myself.

I thought it would be fun to make them more personal than just an automated feed, but I’ve set so many subscription options at this point that I don’t think I can keep up with all of them if I take them off automation. And maybe no one cares.

At the very least, I’m moving my monthly newsletter to a more robust platform, and I’m having fun playing around with that. I tend to get really obsessive about these things, though, and I could seriously spend weeks tinkering. It’s not at all an efficient use of time, but it’s nice to have enough time on my hands to indulge my OCD a bit.

I plan to send the newsletter out next week, so if you’ve never signed up, you might want to try it out! It’s mostly a recap of my most popular posts and things I don’t want you to miss, but I’m also including some posts “from the vault” that are timely, and some sneak peeks of some exciting things to come! Plus, I’ve added an exclusive subscriber only giveaway to thank those of you who welcome me into your inbox every month. If you love Stella & Dot, you might want to make sure you’re signed up. Just sayin’.

So, for a total change of subject . . . Has anyone had a child who will ONLY wear ONE kind of pants? My daughter has decided she will only wear these GAP ponte knit pants. She literally wears them EVERY day. She has about 4 pairs in 2 different sizes, so it’s not like she’s wearing the same exact pair of pants every day, but it LOOKS that way.

P.S. from Aeropostale makes tons of these ponte pants in a variety of pretty colors, and she has about 5 pairs sitting in her drawer. She used to wear them, but now she refuses because . . . wait for it . . . they don’t have an adjustable waist.

So she wears the black Gap ones EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.

I finally decided to give up and let it go, but the smaller pairs are starting to look really beat up. If she’s going to keep wearing them, she needs a few more pairs. Gap has stocked these pants year-round for YEARS so I went to buy new pants only to find that they’re sold out in her size.

GACK!

I did manage to find ONE LONE PAIR at a mall nearby, so they are holding them for me, and I’m sending my husband on a mission this afternoon to pick them up.

Please tell me I’m not alone. Does anyone else go through this? I’ve never had a child THIS picky about what they wear. Even my teenage son will forego his daily uniform of track pants and a hoodie and put on a sweater and khakis when the occasion requires it.

But I figure this is one of those hills that aren’t worth dying on, and as long as I can FIND the blasted pants, I guess I’ll just keep buying them.

And that’s about all I have to report. You guys have anything fun going on this weekend??

Yesterday before I started feeling poorly, I got together with some of my PSMMs for lunch, and that was so much fun. I needed an outing. And this afternoon I have a Ladies Tea with the women from my church. I was thinking I’d have to bail, but I think I’m going to rally. I have had my caffeine fix and I’m feeling more spritely.

Have a lovely weekend!

  1. I hope you continue to feel better. I have been lucky so far and except for one day of feeling icky I have dodged the winter illness so far (I always get a flu shot since I work at Walgreens where the sick come all day long!)

Tara went through a period (13-14) of wearing the same style of jeans and band tshirts and Converse every day. I choose to not fight that battle and now at 17 she is a major fashionista.

  2. I’m sad that you’re not feeling great. That Arizona vacation will do wonders for your health! Now, I gotta say, I like getting the daily emails, but I’d love a recap, too. Should I sign up again or will that just mess the whole thing up? Ayva is not at the point where she’s only wearing one thing (except for her Catholic school jumper!), she’s at the point where she wears ALL the things. A dress, with pants, topped with a skirt. Because…5. I remember only wanting to wear a certain pair of pants, though. She feels comfortable in them. You’re doing the right thing by scouring the earth for them! Feel better, girlfriend!

    1. Aw, thanks, friend. You do not need to sign up again. I’m going to import the existing ones from feedblitz. I can NOT decide to use MailChimp or AWeber. Driving myself a little batty. Both DO what I want to DO but I can’t seem to make either one cooperate. I should hire this out.

  3. Sorry to hear you aren’t feeling well!
My first was a picky one about clothes and how they felt so I feel your pain. I think its miserable to wear clothes that don’t feel right-which was my entire child hood experience. They did not have talls when I was growing up, so glad they do now. I’m trying to avoid battles with my youngest so I keep her closet locked 😉 and she only has one option to wear-whatever I’ve gotten out of the closet when she’s not looking!

  4. Yes my daughter was the same way. I remember I bought her a pair of Timberlake boots one year and caught the shoe string in the vacuum cleaner. She would not wear them until I could fine the exact shoe strings to match. Teenagers you got to love them. Hope you feel better soon.

  5. Boo hiss to not feeling well! I’m not feeling too hot today either, if that’s any consolation LOL. You know, misery loves company and all that. 😉 Hope you feel better soon!

  6. If there is something specific I’m looking for and I know the exact size, style, etc. I’ll shop online and even try Amazon, it’s amazing what you can find there and usually it’s a little cheaper and free shipping if its PRIME! Hope you’re feeling better soon. Happy Saturday!
