I am obsessed with this outfit for some reason. Before it got hot here, I was wearing a version of this almost every day. I love the contrast of the long-sleeved Splendid Draped Thermal Hoodie with shorts.
Lately, it’s been far too hot to wear a cardigan, but I wear a tank and jean shorts almost every day, and I still say that everyone needs one of these cardigans in their summer wardrobe. It is perfect for throwing on over any casual summer outfit when it gets cool in the evening or when on vacation at a northern location. We always travel to Maine in the summer, and this is just the type of thing I like to bring along for the chilly mornings and evenings.
The striped tote is an oldie but goodie. It was my first R Minkoff bag. I will link to a few similar styles below. I love a black and white striped tote for summer — bonus if it’s waterproof like this one in coated cotton.
But back to the cardigan. The draped style is on trend and elongating, and the thermal cotton fabric is a nice change from sweater material. This swan color is perfect for summer, but it also comes in grey and black. I also have the black one. I NEVER buy doubles, so that right there shows you how much I must love it. For size reference, I’m wearing a medium.
Jean shorts are essential to my summer uniform. I swear, I wear them 4 or 5 days a week. It’s a problem, I know, but they are so comfortable, and they go with everything. I even throw them on with a tank top over my bathing suit for an easy and stylish “cover up.”
This outfit is perfect for a mild summer day at home or running errands. It is also something I’d wear over to a friend’s house for a BBQ on an evening that I expect the weather to get chilly when the sun goes down. I wore this when we were at the Hyatt resort a few weeks ago when the temperatures were in the low 70s. I love that you can take the cardigan off and still have a complete outfit.
When I wear one of these cardigans, I always wear a few of my Alex and Ani bangles because they fit over the arms and add an extra layer of detail to the outfit.
I wish I’d thought to take a picture without the cardigan so you can see the tank better, but then again, it is sold out, so nevermind. LOL!
Let’s talk about these sandals. I got on a Sam Edelman kick this summer, and I ended up with three pairs of their flat sandals. I love them all for different reasons. This pair is the Greta. I was drawn to these because they have a bit more substance than the popular Gigi and a slightly more edgy vibe, especially in the black pebbled leather. I find myself wearing them a lot more than I thought I would.
My necklace is old. I wanted something casual, and the black leather cord works well off the sandals. I’ve done my best to find something similar to link to, but I keep coming up with nothing. If you have a suggestion, please let me know.
I usually don’t belt my shorts, but I like how this one pulls the black from the sandals and the bag and the necklace together. I did the “front tuck” because this shirt is too long with the shorts if I leave it untucked in the front. The proportions work out to front tuck because the shorts are low rise and also fairly short.
Okay, one final look at the outfit because… well, I always like to end my outfit posts with a full-length picture. Ha! And while these were just quick front yard shots, so many turned out well, I had a hard time narrowing them down. I just love the cool, casual vibe, and the juxtaposition of the short shorts with the long draped cardigan.
