I get a lot of requests for stylish budget-friendly jeans, and the Gap Factory Friends & Family Sale is the best time to shop for quality, stylish denim at great prices.

Whether you want to try some of the newer wide leg styles and flares, or you prefer the more traditional straight cuts and skinnies, they pretty much have something for everyone. They even have some great denim skirt options right now. In fact, let’s start there!

Denim Midi Pencil Skirt (29) // Ribbed Crewneck T-Shirt (M) // Vegan Leather Belt (M)

This classic denim pencil skirt with a modest front slit has a nice even light wash, and the just-below-the-knee length makes it look modern and slightly retro at the same time. It also comes in a mid indigo wash, if you prefer.

The fabric has just enough stretch to be comfortable, yet maintain the structure of traditional denim, and it runs true to size. I have my usual size 29.

I paired this denim skirt with a navy and white stripe ribbed crewneck t-shirt that’s soft and stretchy and highly versatile. You can wear it alone, or as a base layer, and it comes in tons of solid and stripe color ways. It has more of a body-con fit, so I sized up to a medium for a little extra wiggle room.

With the addition of brown vegan leather belt and coordinating accessories, this simple look can take you just about anywhere in the summer months – from casual errands to coffee dates, your kids’ (or grandkids’) school events, and more. You can always throw on a classic trench or linen blazer if you need a top layer.

Staying with the navy and white theme, this next outfit features a pair of high rise flares in a versatile light wash with the trendy front patch pockets.

Unfortunately, these are selling out. They’ve carried this style for a while (I had the black pair last winter) so I’m hoping they bring them out in a new wash for spring. They’re such flattering jeans… legs for days!

High Rise ’70s Flare Jeans (29) // Sweater Jacket (S) // Ribbed Crewneck T-Shirt (M) // Vegan Leather Belt (M)

I topped them off with the same ribbed crewneck t-shirt in the solid white layered under a stripe sweater jacket. I added the brown belt again to define the waist, and for another point of interest.

This sweater gives a nod to the lady jacket, which is very much on trend right now, but it’s made from a comfortable soft cotton knit. I love the gold buttons for dressing up this casual look.

These mid-rise kick fit jeans are another solid denim choice; in fact, this is my favorite style for spring/summer because they look so good with sandals. This is the medium wash, and the light wash has a fun released hem.

Once again, I went with that ribbed crewneck t-shirt, this time in the solid black. I’m not normally one to buy the same top in multiple colors, but this is such a versatile piece, I couldn’t resist. I added a black belt and bookended the look with black sandals.

  1. Love the blue and white for spring!

Re:Netflix. I just finished Ozark on an rec from my SIL and loved it! Not sure if it’s your style—it’s a bit gritty and raw, but was so good. The Queens Gambit is also really good, too.

    1. Yeah, I’ve heard good things about Ozark but it does sound a little rough for my delicate sensibilities, haha! I loved the Queen’s Gambit. I usually just watch HGTV, which is weird b/c I am not really into home decor or renovations, but I love watching them.

  2. I have great luck at Old Navy. The styles are on trend, they have extended sizes, and I’ve found that the quality is good. I just can’t bring myself to spend $200 on jeans.

I hope your mending is quick and complete.

  3. We just finished Madam Secretary. It had really well written story lines and they ended the series on a very satisfying way

  4. If you have t watched it already, check out Lessons in Chemistry. It was amazing! Hope you are resting and recovering well!

  5. Do you know length of the kick fit jean in regular? The short says 25” but my size gone. The regular says same 25”???? I really like the length of the Jean skirt. It doesn’t look old fashion, the way you have it styled.
I’m so sorry for your time down. I know how hard it is. I’m down plenty with my migraines and it’s hard just laying there. I’ll pray you heal quickly.

  6. I really like the sweater jacket and I think it would be a nice addition to my closet, in one of the solid colors, so that I can wear it with more tops and/or dresses. While you are in the boot, I hope that you are still going to share your daily outfits with us. I’m sure that I am not the only reader that has been in a boot or that could end up in one down the road. So seeing how you are dressing can be great inspiration for us.

  7. I ordered the green jacket from Gap that you had styled earlier. I usually don’t tuck my tops in, and wondered if it would look alright if some of my top showed below the jacket (not tunics, just tops that hit below my waistline). I hope your ankle heals quickly!

  8. Very cute outfits. I really like the stripes with the denim. Having broken an ankle and having foot surgery I know how boring it can be not being active. I hope you heal quickly. 🙏

  9. Netflix shows: Stranger Things, Outer Banks, Bridgerton series, All the Light We Cannot See. On Amazon Prime: Reacher, Jack Ryan, The Durrels in Corfu. Also I really loved the Chosen, the first 3 seasons are available in different places.

  10. You are killing me with not being able to pin!
I just found some really good mysteries on Netflix: Fool me once, Stranger….based on books from the same author. There are more, but I haven’t watched them yet.
    Enjoy the down time!

    1. Hi Paige! You can add the Pinterest widget to your browser and it’ll let you pin from any website. If you’re using an iPhone, click the middle icon at the bottom of your browser (same one you use to share a link). The second row in the pop up menu has different apps. If Pinterest isn’t there, scroll all the way to the right and click more to add it. Idk if the same is possible for android devices?

  11. Hi Jolynne! Can you please recommend a great digital watch? As much as I love giving analogue watches they don’t make very useful gifts for people with vision issues. I’m looking for something useful+beautiful. Thank you!

      1. Thank you for responding! I have looked and looked and no luck, so I reached out to the expert. I found Nixon watches but I know that name would haunt me every time I looked at the watch. I recommend watching All the President’s Men ;D!

  12. There is not a GAP Store near me…are returns free or does Gap charge a fee?

I agree that Lessons in Chemistry was good.

Loved all of these outfits on you!! Looks like spring

  13. Ozark is very good! Also I highly recommend Suits. We just finished it. 9 seasons. Seasons 1-8 are on Netflix. Season 9 is on peacock and amazon prime. Really really good! Meghan Markle is in it and is a very good actress.
Also Bosche is great. On amazon prime.

  14. I love all of the clothes and they all look great on you! As far as Netflix shows go, have you watched Longmire? It’s a great series and there are 6 seasons. There are some scenes that are a little raunchy for lack of a better word. But, overall it’s great! My husband and I have watched it twice!

  15. I usually like the Gap jeans you post but seems like every single time, they are always sold out in the Short, no matter what the size! It’s already difficult finding petite jeans, but even more frustrating when they are always sold out! Thanks for sharing the styles though – cute on you and gives me an idea what to look for elsewhere. Unfortunately tho I can almost never find jeans that fit correctly in the inseam.

  16. This isn’t a series, but it’s well worth a watch!! It’s called “The Greatest Night in Pop” and it’s about the whole process of making “We Are the World.” As a child of the 70s/80s, it is AMAZING.

    P.S. I love these more budget-friendly options!!
