Stripe Tops for Spring

Stripes are having a moment this spring, and while this is not exactly groundbreaking information, it means it’s great time to lean into this classic pattern if it appeals to you because it is ev-er-y-where.

I guess you could call me a fair weather friend when it comes to stripes. It isn’t a pattern I feel a great need to have in my closet, but now that it’s everywhere, I’m really enjoying it.

I typically prefer solids over patterns, but stripes are a nice way to bridge that gap, and they have a preppy/classic vibe that works well with the minimalist/understated side of my style personality.

The stripe top I’m wearing here has a nautical appeal, and it’s highly versatile too. I love how it pairs with the white denim, and the brown accessories add warmth to the look.

It has a boat neckline and a subtle flare to the sleeves, and the 21 1/2″ length is perfect for pairing with high rise jeans. This top is 100% cotton, and it runs true to size. As an added bonus, it’s currently on sale at Evereve!

As much as I love the crisp, clean look of this navy and white stripe top with white denim, it looks equally good dressed down with these light wash wide leg cuffed jeans, which are also part of the Evereve sale.

These jeans are super soft and comfortable, and while I realize the wide leg cuffed jean is not the most traditionally flattering, I love the casual, summery vibe. I get compliments on these everywhere I wear them!

These Birkenstock slides are the perfect finishing touch to this casual, summery look. Together, the jeans and sandals bring some boho style to the classic navy and white stripe top.

Birkenstocks never really go on sale, but they do qualify for the Nordstrom Bonus Points event that is going on right now, as do the white PAIGE kick flares I’m wearing in the first look.

If horizontal stripes aren’t your jam, this popover top is a great way to incorporate stripes into your spring wardrobe. I love the easy, breezy color palette, the split neck, and the 3/4-length blouson sleeves.

This blouse is 100% cotton, and it has a nice drape. You can wear it front tucked or untucked, depending on the look you want and the overall proportions of the outfit.

I wore this stripe blouse above with white kick flares, and then below you can see it paired with olive wide leg pants. I love these pants; they’re cut closer to the thigh than a lot of wide leg styles I’ve tried, which I find more flattering on my body. A lot of others love them too!

Unfortunately, this olive color is low inventory, but they come in a pretty mocha color, as well as a good neutral beige. Nordstrom also has a version of these in strawberry and beige, as well as a light wash denim. (The blouse and pants are both part of the Evereve sale.)

I added a brown belt and brown slingback sandals to finish the look. You may notice, I’ve been gravitating to brown shoes and accessories this spring. We’ve been doing nude and taupe for so long, brown is feeling fresh to me, and I like how it warms up the cooler tones in these outfits.

    1. They are very similar. I like how the PAIGE pair has a bit of a lived-in look with the way they creased the hip area, and the hem isn’t just a straight raw edge. But the main reason I purchased these is that my white MOTHER Hustlers are suddenly too small, and I wanted to replace them or find a similar pair. I found these when I was shopping at Nordstrom.

      1. Don’t you hate when your clothes are suddenly too small? It’s been happening to me too. I guess they don’t make clothes like they used to 😉. Seriously, I finally gave up and began buying one size up. It worked out jean styles were changing anyway. It’s so nice to breathe again!

  1. Love all the stripe tops. I didn’t like horizontal stripes till a couple of years ago when I started seeing them more. I prefer vertical stripes. I still don’t like horizontal stripes in a dress though. Glad your website is working well.

  2. I always have stripes in my closet. I love the navy and white together too. One of my favorite color combinations.

  3. I love the look of your new website!
I bought a pair of ecru, somewhat wide leg jean last year. Wore them once and donated. I felt I looked fat in them. But, those olive pants you have on seem so flattering. I may need to revisit this trend.

  4. I love the Wendy striped top. How does it run? I’m a 34DD and have somewhat larger upper arms. Maybe go with a Medium? I love your new website!

  5. You look nice in each outfit! I have purchased a few striped tops at Belk (Kim Rogers brand) since they were marked way down to fit my budget. If you join Birkenstocks online store, you have opportunities to buy some of them on sale, and you get previews of new styles. I am really liking everything about your new design!

  6. Love both outfits with the Evereve Wendy top, great example of a top can be styled into totally different outfits for different seasons! Love the new blog design too, very elegant. Hope the process wasn’t too much of a headache!

  7. I adore stripes, always have! These outfits are great, especially the way you wore them with different jean bottoms. Your updated website looks awesome on my laptop, the photos are so big! Still a little funky on my phone, but that should improve.
Did you receive the J.McLaughlin catalog in the mail? The newest one (March 2024) was photographed in Sarasota, and has a lot of great photos that should look familiar to you. It also says were to “dine, stay, shop, sip”, etc, and actually mentions The Modern!!

  8. Love all the looks! Those green flare pants look great ! Have to try and find some that are mid-rise. I meant to tell you I love your new site! So easy to follow along and love how it is set up.

  9. Love your new website and all the outfits today. I think you have said in the past that you are short waisted (which I am too). Wondering how you look great with a top tucked in and a belt added. I have tried many different times but look ridiculous. I love the look but just can’t seem to pull it off. Any suggestions?

  10. First off, I love the new website. Everything downloads quickly and the pictures are great!

The outfit with the wide-leg pants and striped top is fantastic. I can see the blouse working for many occasions and a range of temperatures. I love a cropped wide-leg jean/pant for the warmer months. I have had mine for four years and they’re perfect for when a slim jean is too hot and it’s not warm enough for shorts. I am also loving that cognac/brown sandals are gaining momentum over taupe, which doesn’t suit my skin tone. I would like to find a pair of ankle strap, flat cognac sandals to replace mine that bit the dust.

  11. If I click on one of your links and then X it out to go back, it deletes your blog. Is anyone else having this problem?

      1. The links are not opening in a additional browser tab. To go back to the blog you need to use the browser back arrow.

  12. Your new blog looks beautiful and I love the extra space for each post’s photos versus only having a left panel to fit into! One thing the developers probably already know, but they need to fix is that the top navigation titles aren’t staying in place on some of the pages, including the latest post page when viewing on an iPad. They look perfect on the home page, but on quite a few of the other pages, they are kind of wonky all over the place. Are you able to add your affiliate links to QVC and Vionic on your Retailer page? I love to link through your retailer affiliate links when I plan to shop since I know that helps you a bit and didn’t see those two on there. Thanks for all your hard work to keep us in the know and lookin’ good!
