Summer Neutrals with White Jeans & Sandals

Happy Monday, and welcome back to my Summer Style Series with Cyndi Spivey! Every Monday in June, we’re sharing a summer trend and asking another over-40 blogger to join us. Today we’re teaming up with Dawn Parsons from Party Til Dawn, and we’re each styling a summer outfit featuring white jeans and sandals.

Dawn is a wife and mom of four, and she has a passion for fashion, decorating, creating tablescapes, and planning parties. She has a great sense of style, so be sure to check out her blog and give her a follow on Instagram!

For today’s collab, I styled a neutral summer look with my white Mother Insiders and the Sam Edelman Geraldine slides.

stripe sweater // white cami // white crop flares (also at Bloomies) // embellished slides (also at Zappos) // silver hoops // link bracelet

I’ve styled these jeans several times before. They’ve become my favorite casual white jeans for summer. When I want a dressier look, I go for my skinnies, but I love the crop flare with the raw, step hem for a more laidback look and feel.

They’re nice and thick and not at all see-through, a substantial weight but with enough stretch to be comfortable. They hold their shape and never bag out, and they have a 10.25″ rise, so they hold in all the fluff.

Yes, they’re spendy, but on a cost per wear basis, I’m definitely getting my money’s worth. I also managed to snag mine on sale a while back. They run true to size and you can find them at Neimans, Bloomies, and Saks.

On top, I’m wearing this lightweight stripe sweater in the tan stripe. I love this subtle neutral pairing for summertime. This sweater is sheer with exposed seams, drop shoulders, and a relaxed, boxy fit. It definitely has that ultra-cool, beachy-chic thing going on.

I usually layer it over this white cami, for extra coverage. Both pieces run true to size; I have them in a small.

When selecting a pair of sandals go to with my white jeans, I rarely pick white because it feels a too matchy-matchy. I typically prefer a neutral taupe or beige — something close to skin color. The theory is, keeping your shoes close to your skin color helps elongate the line of the leg and generally makes you appear taller and slimmer.

I also love to wear metallics with white jeans; I just think they make a great summery combo. But I also take into consideration what I’m wearing on top. While a beige or metallic shoe would definitely look great with this sweater, I opted for these ivory and gold embellished slides with the brown croc embossed footbed.

I like how they bring a bit of bling into the casual look, and how the ivory and gold complement the white and beige of the sweater. Since they’re ivory and not a stark white, they’re not too matchy. As Stacy and Clinton used to say, “They don’t have to match; they have to go.”

I have to admit, I didn’t put much thought into my jewelry for this look. I tend to be a bit of a plain Jane when it come to accessories, and I just wore a pair of Kendra Scott filigree hoops and my Yurman silver link bracelet. But I definitely could have amped up the look with a larger, more whimsical pair of earrings.

One of the biggest fashion pitfalls women fall into is not completing a look with the best accessories, and I’m definitely guilty of that. Especially since I prefer higher quality classic pieces, I tend to wear the same few pieces all the time, and that’s fine for everyday.

But adding a bigger statement piece really helps to level up a casual look and make the outfit more intentional. Integrating a natural element like wood or raffia, or a shell motif would be well-suited to the casual, beachy vibe I’ve got going on here.

  1. Cute outfit. I love Sam Edelman sandals and have several pair. But these did not work out for me, my foot kept sliding though the front as I walked so I had to return them. I was disappointed because they would have been a great summer neutral to wear.

  2. Love this look. I had a pair of step white jeans last year and I cut the back step part off for this year. 🙂 My white jeans were longer than yours so didn’t really like the look so much. I like your crop better. Mine are crop now but raw hem only. I’ve been watching the sweater for a sale. 🙂 I love the neutrals. I could see the studded Dolce Vita sandal with this outfit also, which I have thanks to you. 🙂

  3. I’m with you on the classic jewellery pieces. I like my classic pieces and have them in gold and silver. I can add a layer or something to spruce things up but I think classic looks well….classy lol. Some days I will change things to something more trendy and I almost always take it off and put back my comfort level piece.
As for Amazon Prime day – well us Canadians are Covid losing again….they postponed it here in Canada due to Covid.
Now the Amazon warehouses have been a source of outbreaks so their reasoning is to keep their workers safe so we can’t really argue with that….but man we up here in the great white north are ready to start being able to move forward as our American friends to the south have – but safely of course. (at least our stay at home order in Ontario is done and we can shop in non-essential stores at 15% capacity so many line ups and indoor malls still not allowed to open nor hair salons or spas.)

  4. I wear simple classic jewelry pieces too. My DY silver hoops and small diamond stud earrings are my favorites. I also have a pair of gold hoops I wear often.

  5. Ditto on simple classic jewelry. More elaborate jewelry looks so good on others but I typically revert to my simple investment pieces. Also being petite, some jewelry just seems to overwhelm.
