2 Work Wear Looks with Black Jeans

With so many people returning to the office this fall, I’ve had a lot of requests for women’s workwear ideas. I don’t work in an office, but I wear business casual attire for church, and black jeans are usually my starting point during the fall and winter months because they can be styled so many ways.

AG Jeans (28) // Halogen twist front top (S) // Michael Kors sandals (8) // House of Want handbag

I found these AG Mari slim straight leg jeans in the jet black wash at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale last month. These are great for business casual dress codes because they are as polished and versatile as black pants, but with the comfort and wearability of denim.

One of my favorite ways to dress up black jeans is with a floral blouse like this Halogen twist front top. I love a floral grounded on a dark background for transition season, and the twisted front detail is so feminine and pretty.

Since the blouse has short sleeves, I decided to wear slingback sandals with this first outfit.

These sandals were another #NSale find. I love the slingback style and asymmetrical design, and they’re surprisingly comfortable for 4″ heels.

I kept this work wear look simple with delicate gold jewelry and a black shoulder bag.

This bag plays into the crescent shape/hobo style trend that is so hot this season, and it also adds texture and dimension to this classic look. The tortoiseshell chain detail is another big trend in handbags right now.

You can start wearing this outfit right now, and when it gets cooler this fall, you can put a blazer or cardigan on top and swap the sandals for booties or pumps.

My other favorite pairing with black jeans for work or church in the fall and winter is a pretty sweater. Bonus points, if it has fun details.

AG Jeans (28) // Halogen v-neck sweater (S) // similar pumps (8) // AllSaints tote

This ribbed v-neck sweater is also by Halogen, one of the Nordstrom Made Brands. It fits close to the body, so it’s flattering worn alone, but it also layers easily under a blazer or moto jacket.

This time, I wore closed toe pumps, and I swapped the small shoulder bag for a roomy tote.

Slouchy totes are also trending this fall, and this one is a nice medium size. The leather is like butter, and I love how it has the two options for straps.

Both of these outfits come with the ease of one-stop shopping and the free shipping and free returns that you get at Nordstrom. And don’t forget about their BOPUS (Buy Online Pick Up in Store) and contactless curbside pickup options.

  1. These are cute. But as someone who works in an office, I gave to say that a short sleeve outfit is a no go. Not because it’s inappropriate. But because most women would freeze to death in office A/C. Finding “work casual” outfits is thus even more of a challenge. My favorite toppers are coated denim jackets and sweater material blazers that don’t look too menswear. A cardigan often looks dowdy so I seldom choose that.

  2. Love these black jeans – and both out fits. When I saw the pullover with the jeans I shuddered as I’m not ready to give up the longer days. But on the other hand I love fall & the holidays. Oh well-it’s all good in the long run.

    Have a fabulous day!

  3. Is the Halogen sweater you’re wearing in the Pink Tulle color? Would you say it is more of a pale orchid or a true pale pink?

  4. I love that pale purple on you. Colors reflect in the face differently for different skin tones and that definitely acts like a softening filter! i like my bright colors for my high contrast coloring. I’m a clear winter so there are a few soft cool colors I perk up in! Can you look for some tops a clear winter can wear? not that you need to wear it but just in the choices of other colors?
