Fall 2025 Fashion Trends to Watch

Fall 2025 fashion trends are already starting to pop up in stores, and the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is giving us a glimpse of what’s trending for the season ahead, so I thought I’d pull together a quick roundup of the styles catching my eye.

And of course, the usual disclaimers apply! This fall fashion trends list is just for fun. It’s not meant to cover every single trend out there, and it’s definitely not a must-have shopping list. The goal is to help you spot what’s current and decide what (if anything!) works for you. Feel free to skip anything that doesn’t fit your style, but keep an open mind. Trying one or two fresh trends (or putting your own spin on them) is a great way to keep your style feeling modern and avoid getting stuck in a time warp.

Fall Fashion Forecast: 7 Trends Everyone Will Be Wearing in 2025

While it’s still early to know which looks will dominate your Instagram feed this year, these are the trends I’m most excited about so far—and a few I’m already adding to my closet.

1. Chocolate Brown Everything: Fall 2025’s Hottest Hue

Brown might not be a surprising color trend for fall, but it hasn’t been the color in years. Last year, we started seeing hints of it, especially in shoes and accessories. But this year, it’s brown everything: dresses, sweaters, jeans, even outerwear.

The best part is, you can start wearing it now with white or shoelace drawstring jeans for a fresh summer-to-fall look. Later on, pair it with your favorite denim or layer rich brown tones together for a chic monochrome outfit.

Style Tip: The best thing about a color trend? It never really looks dated. So if brown is your vibe, now’s the perfect time to stock up while the selection is good.

2. Knee-Length Skirts: A Classic Style Making a Comeback

Knee-length skirts have been on the back burner for years, and I’m excited to see them making a comeback. They’re perfect with knee-high boots and, in my opinion, easier to style than mini or maxi skirts.

The key to keeping this classic style current is how you pair it. This fall, expect to see knee-length skirts styled with oversized knits, boxy blazers, and sleek boots.

3. Suede for Fall 2025: The Texture to Try

A good fabric trend is almost as exciting as a color trend because fabrics don’t tend to look “outdated” quickly. This year, suede is everywhere—not just in boots and shoes but also in handbags, belts, jackets, skirts, and even dresses.

Style Tip: When you combine a trending color with a trending fabric, you get a two-fer trend that really packs a punch. Case in point: a chocolate brown suede handbag. Or take it up a notch with a chocolate brown suede knee-length skirt for the ultimate trend trifecta!

4. Slouchy Bags: The Biggest Fall 2025 Handbag Trend

This season, sleek, structured bags are giving way to softer, more relaxed silhouettes. Think folded top-handle styles and squishy, buttery shoulder bags that feel effortlessly chic.

And yes, suede is showing up here too! I know it’s a little more delicate and harder to care for than leather, but there’s something about a slouchy suede handbag that I can’t resist. It adds a touch of boho flair while still feeling luxe and polished.

5. Denim Dresses: The Fall Wardrobe Staple That’s Sticking Around

This one’s not new, but I don’t see it going anywhere anytime soon. While I haven’t seen denim dresses on many “official” trend lists yet, they’re popping up in early fall collections everywhere—from LOFT to EVEREVE to Nordstrom. My hunch is, denim dresses are sticking around, and might be getting even bigger this season.

This is another great now-and-later trend. Wear them now with sandals or sneakers, then layer up with boots, tights, and a cozy cardigan or utility jacket when the weather cools down. For a more polished vibe, look for clean, tailored silhouettes. Or go for softer, belted styles to add a touch of casual, elevated boho.

6. Slim Bootcut Jeans: The Updated Silhouette for Fall 2025

Wide-leg styles are still popular, but I’m noticing some slimmer bootcut silhouettes are starting to creep in, and I could not be happier about it! These aren’t the dramatic flares of years past—they read more like straight-leg jeans with a subtle flare.

The MOTHER Outsider Flood from the #NSale is a perfect example, and I also noticed this MOTHER Weekender Skimp at EVEREVE. For a more budget-friendly option, these Slim Flare Jeans in the LOFT Sneak Preview section is worth checking out.

7. Long Coats: The Outerwear Trend to Invest In for Fall 2025

This trend isn’t exactly new, but it’s definitely gaining momentum. Since coats are a bigger investment, many of us hesitate to jump on a trend until it feels more mainstream—but I think it’s safe to say this one is here to stay.

It’s easy to underestimate the impact of outerwear and stick to just one or two go-to styles, but I’d argue it’s worth expanding your options. After all, your coat is often the first (and sometimes only!) part of your outfit people see.

Long coats are timeless, practical, and perfect for colder climates—and this season, they’re everywhere. If you’re ready to refresh your outerwear, a long coat is a chic, versatile piece to add to your rotation.

Bonus Trend: Statement Belts Are Making A Comeback

Belts are making a comeback this season—and not just threaded through your jeans (though that’s a current look too). Look for interesting buckles, animal prints, charms, and studded details to keep the vibe modern. Also, tie waist belts like this one are gaining momentum.

But statement belts worn over oversized knits and tailored coats are also shaping up to be a big trend for fall. While this style isn’t the most flattering on my body type, it’s a great way to add shape and definition to roomy winter layers if it works for you.

Final Thoughts

So there you have it—these are some of the most wearable Fall 2025 fashion trends I’m seeing so far, and I couldn’t be more excited to start working some of them into my wardrobe. From rich textures like suede to updated classics like knee-length skirts and slim bootcut jeans, there’s plenty of fresh inspiration for the season ahead.

Which of these fall trends are you most excited about? Are there any you’re already wearing or planning to try as we head into the best season for fashion?

  1. I’m REALLY excited about Brown being “in” this year. I’m always looking for brown items and every year it seems harder and harder to find pieces I love so with it being “in” I’m hoping there will be LOTS to choose from and I’m also excited about statement belts – I have lots of belts that just got put into back closet and excited about revisiting them

  2. I am SO glad chocolate brown is finally everywhere again, it’s the most flattering neutral color that exists.

  3. Give me all the summer fashions in February but I refuse to look at or think about fall until mid September lol. Truth

  4. I’m excited about chocolate brown & suede trending. I have a pair of suede chocolate brown booties and a purse I love that has pretty much stayed in my closet recently. I’ll be pulling them out to wear with my ecru straight leg, full length ecru jeans come fall/winter. Slouchy bags are not my thing so I’ll pass on that one. Too big!
Love belts and I know there will be some great ones out there this year.

  5. Chocolate brown anything, because deep browns are more flattering to gals with warm skin tones like me, vs black which looks better on cool toned gals. I’ve been wearing chocolate brown as my primary neutral for decades. Usually it’s a hard color to find, but when it trends, I made sure to grab anything that catches my eye. 🙂 Suede is another trend I love, but moreso in accessories, as it’s impractically heavy to wear in my warm climate except in winter.

  6. What an awesome post! Since I love the cooler months, this topic brought a smile to my face. I’m super excited about chocolate brown being more popular, since it suits my coloring much more than black. And I see it working great with my signature colors that I wear close to my face. Slouchy handbags just aren’t my thing. I know that belts can be a great accessory, I find that they just draw attention to my pudgy tummy, and that is not what I want. We’re still under a heat advisory, with high temps & heat index. The devotion in my Daily Guideposts for today was about finding the good about this weather instead of always complaining. Oops! I got the message. Have a blessed day!

    1. Ah, I think I needed that message too. 🙂 I get so cranky when it’s rainy. I can deal with heat if I’m doing something fun, but I usually won’t exercise in it, so that also makes me cranky, lol.

  7. I’m intrigued by the Citizens “Genova bootcut” jeans from Evereve. I don’t own any from this brand and would love to know how they fit.

  8. Love thinking about the upcoming season, great topic! And agree with other commenters about the dark brown. I bought a pair of Vuori dark brown wide leg athleisure pants that I’m excited to wear more as the weather cools.

  9. Brown is my favorite color so I’m super excited about that! I like a suede bag but the bags I saw on the N sale and trending for this fall are too big. Any suggestions for a medium sized brown suede bag? Thanks!!

  10. I love the slouchy purse look. Any suggestions on keeping things from getting all jumbled in your purse. I always feel like Mary Poppins digging through my bag and trying to find something.

  11. I had to laugh at how excited I was to see this post. I loved fashion in high school and college, and then for my first 25 years as a mother I had little time or money to follow it. It’s been exactly ten years since I started working on updating my wardrobe and learning to enjoy clothes again, so when I saw slim bootcut jeans on this list, I smiled because that was one of the first purchases I made in the fall of 2015. Looking forward to getting some new ones.

I love suede and can’t wait to break out the chocolate brown knee-high boots I bought last year. I actually picked up a number of things in suede, brown, or both over the colder seasons and I’m glad they’re still current- one is a slouchy plum suede bag from MILA. As for long coats, I’ve been wanting one for a while, and last week I snagged the J. Crew Daphne boiled wool topcoat in camel, which you introduced to us, on eBay for $100!

To me, being plus-sized, a skirt that ends above the knee is a mini. It could work with opaque tights and those knee-high boots, but I’d have to see. Also not sure a denim dress would flatter, though I really like the denim skirt I got last year. I’ve avoided the belt trend so far, because I never tuck anything in, and I dislike the way a belt over a sweater or coat looks from the back on me.

  12. Definitely loving all the brown. As I’ve gotten older (ahem!), I’ve found that I can’t wear black near my face or it just washes me out. Black was such a staple of my wardrobe for a long time, but not anymore. The solution: brown. Just realized that the last 4 or 5 shirts and sweaters I’ve purchased have been shades of dark brown.

  13. A lot of fall items in the stores now so perfect post. I love chocolate brown. Evereve has a pair I saw on their website I’m eyeing.

  14. I am excited about chocolate brown being back. As a brunette in the midst of my grey grow out, I often struggled wearing brown with my long brown hair. I’m at 11 month of new growth and am proably another 6-8 months before I’ll cut the rest of the brown off. So I’m curious to see how I’ll do in that color. I’ve always like brown on me as it plays up my pink undertones and when I was blondish years ago, I wore brown constantly. Fingers crossed it works for me again.

    1. Jennifer I went white gray this year. I used to look good in all shades of brown when I had brown hair. Now cool colors look better on me. However dark brown still looks good probably because it’s close to black. I’m donating a lot of lighter shades of brown tops like in the cognac family. I’m still using cognac in accessories. Enjoy your new hair. I get a lot of compliments now that I went natural. No one ever complimented my dyed hair before.

  15. I was thrift shopping a couple of weeks ago and decided to pass on a dark brown short sleeve ribbed top (elevated T shirt) because I had just a top very similar to it. I went back a week later to see if it was still there, but alas, it was gone. I’m still kicking myself because it was a much darker brown, almost black, so it would’ve been “different” in my wardrobe. Live and learn! The joys and sorrows of thrift shopping!

  16. Brown is my color! Pairs well with so many colors. I bought the Marc Jacob’s Brown suede boots in Anniversary Sale. Was thinking about buying the Kut chocolate coated denim wide legs in sale. Has anyone tried these?

  17. I like them all but sloughy bags. Last year I donated my Ann Taylor faux suede skirt that looks like the one above. I did keep 2 knee length skirts which I might wear again. It will be a long time before I can wear fall fashion. Right now I’m enjoying my linen.

  18. Love chocolate brown and suede for fall, I’ll definitely be stocking up! Have you seen any trends over specific colors paired with the brown?

      1. I actually like it with black, although I know many people don’t. I also like it with other shades of brown like caramel or cognac, but it has to look very intentional. I also like it with some warmer shades of red, especially a burnt russet or deep wine shade.

  19. I’m looking forward to wearing chocolate brown with black! A favorite combo for me. I did find a silky (microfiber) chocolate brown tank. Since it doesn’t get cool enough here for even light sweaters until November, I’ll wear the tank as a transition with black straight leg jeans and a black coated denim jacket. I’m still looking for a lightweight, long-sleeve brown sweater (crew or bateau and no wool). The hunt is part of the fun. I’ll wear that with black or ivory kick flares and dark brown ankle boots. A skirt wasn’t on my list, but love the silk one from Quince in your post. I just might need that!

  20. First thank you for the Tarte lip liner advice you gave me. Ordered it on Sephora and love it!
You look beautiful in the palm print T and brown pants. Great ideas for me!

On the white pants debate. They are not for me however I love them on others. Having said that last year I bought a midi white linen skirt and white lined loose pants and love them. Go figure hahaha

As for fall trends. Thank you good ideas. I noticed fall clothing creeping into the stores!

  21. LOVE, LOVE chocolate brown! Im a blonde, blue eyes, somewhat fair and whenever I wear this color I get compliments–so I’d have to disagree with poster saying fair skins cant pull off this color–heh heh. I bought SE harness booties in choc brown on Nordstrom sale–can’t wait to wear them. I have a couple of fall brown tops–I think I need more!

  22. Love this post! For a cool weather loving gal this post brings me joy!!! Although, we won’t be wearing many fall/winter items in Texas until late October/early November!! Excited to add some browns and suede to my wardrobe! Thanks for keeping us up on what’s coming in the fashion world!!!

  23. I am so excited about brown being more easily accessible. It’s my favorite and has been so hard to find . Everything on your list except for belts are my personal style . I think I will always prefer wide leg pants and glad they are sticking around .

  24. Very VERY excited for brown! Also for allll the coats! I love a polished wool coat with jeans and sneaks! I believe coats has the largest percentage of my wardrobe!

  25. Is the drawstring on the wide leg Evereve jeans removable? I know that defeats the purpose of the styling, but I love the look of those jeans but know the drawstring would drive me crazy. Is it actually for function to hold the pants up? Thanks!

  26. I love these Seasonal “what’s in” posts!!!! I love black, it’s my go to, but I can get onboard with brown for Fall.

I’m wondering about jeans for Fall and what you said about the thinking a straight leg into a slight boot cut. Where do the Mother Weekender or the Paige Anessa’s fit in with this trend? Are we talking something like the Paige Claudine or perhaps the Good American good legs crop mini boot or the Pistola Lennon? Also, are seeing more raw hems or clean hems?

Thank you so much for your thoughts and insight!

      1. Did you ever get to try the Mother Outsider floods in a gray wash (from the N-sale) you were going to order in a 30? I liked that they seemed to be a tad longer but could still work with flats. (I always check to see how jeans look on YOU before I pull the trigger.)
