Fall is officially here, and it finally feels like it! The past few days have been beautifully crisp and cool, and it’s put me in the mood for all things cozy. So today, I’m rounding up 25 casual fall outfits for 2025—some old favorites, some newer combinations—but all easy outfit formulas I rely on year after year.

I pretty much live in jeans, so denim is the foundation for most of these casual fall looks. Of course, you can always swap them for pants if you need more work-friendly options. Feel free to mix things up—add layers, change accessories, or substitute pieces to suit your personal style.
For anything that’s sold out, I linked similar items and included a few more affordable alternatives for the pricier pieces. But the goal here is to inspire you to shop your closet first, so hopefully it won’t be too frustrating if a few of the exact items aren’t available anymore.
Easy Outfit Formulas to Wear on Repeat This Fall
#1. Brown is having a major moment this season, and I’m here for it! I paired a chocolate coated v-neck tee with blue jeans and leopard-print Mary Jane flats. This look was perfect for a warmer fall day, but any elevated brown top or sweater would work. I added bold hoop earrings and layered a brown beaded necklace with a gold link necklace to draw attention to the face. A belt and classic trench coat finish the look with a polished touch.

#2. All the cool girls are layering crewneck tees under their sweaters lately, and I love how a simple white tee updates this classic navy cable-knit crewneck. The warm brown accessories create a nice contrast against the cool tones of the navy sweater and medium-wash denim. Add a barn jacket on top to complete the look and keep it feeling current.

#3. Speaking of navy, pairing it with black might seem unexpected, but it can look incredibly chic! I love how this bold navy mock-neck top works with these washed black wide-leg jeans. Black suede ankle boots keep the line cohesive while adding a luxe texture, and I topped it off with a black leather jacket for a touch of edge. A wide belt with a gold buckle and bold gold hoop earrings brighten up the darker tones, while the black lizard-embossed bag adds even more texture and ties the look together.

#4. One of my favorite casual fall outfit formulas is layering an olive utility jacket over a simple black or white tee with light wash jeans and fashion sneakers. This Z Supply stretch twill jacket is from last season, but I found a relaxed chore jacket that has a similar easy, laid-back vibe and works perfectly as a current alternative.

#5. This is a more elevated take on that classic fall outfit formula, featuring an evergreen utility jacket in a longer, leaner silhouette. I wore it with a white tee and dressed it up a bit with trouser jeans and cognac booties. To pull it all together, I coordinated my bag and belt with the boots for a cohesive, polished look.

#6. While green is the most traditional color for a utility jacket, there are so many great alternatives out there now. I’m loving this raisin-colored utility jacket, which blends tones of burgundy, plum, and brown for a rich fall look that feels both modern and unexpected.
I layered it over a black ribbed tank and paired them with washed black wide-leg jeans in a full length that keeps the look long and lean. I finished the outfit with brown suede boots—they subtly coordinate with the jacket (and were also the best option since my black boots weren’t quite tall enough). A black bag and belt ties everything together.

#7. I also like to have a black twill jacket in my fall closet since I wear a lot of cool tones that pair nicely with black—and it complements my hair color and skin tone, too. My Rails Alma Jacket is from a past season, but I’m loving this year’s drawstring waist version for a similar look. Here’s one way I’ve styled it: layered over a burgundy smocked tee with wide-leg jeans and croc-embossed mules for a polished yet casual vibe.

#8. Another fun casual outfit formula I like to reinvent each year is pairing a hoodie with a bomber jacket or a longline wool-blend coat. Just add jeans and boots or sneakers for an effortlessly chic look that’s equal parts cozy and cool.

#9. Here’s another take on the hoodie outfit formula, this time with a camel cashmere hoodie layered under a black quilted vest for warmth and contrast. I paired it with straight-leg jeans and rust suede sneakers — fun pop of color right where it matters. Colored and boldly hued sneakers are a big fall 2025 trend (think yellows, cranberries, and richer tones) so it’s an easy way to feel current.

#10. This is a look you’ve seen from me many times, but it’s just one of those combinations that always works. I paired a black cowl-neck top with black wide-leg ankle jeans and added dressy black suede booties for a streamlined, monochromatic base. To finish the look, I layered on an oxblood leather jacket in a modern silhouette—an easy way to add a rich fall color and a bit of edge while keeping the outfit polished and versatile.

#11. Here’s a more autumnal look with my rust ankle-flare jeans. I paired them with a chocolate brown sweater and added leopard mesh Mary Jane flats for a subtle touch of pattern. A khaki cropped trench coat tops it off, and I finished the look with a brown beaded necklace and a woven brown messenger bag for texture and warmth.

#12. This is another outfit I’ve shared often—but I love it! A brown striped sweater, blue jeans, and brown flats echo the tones in the sweater to bookend the look. I added a bag in the same warm brown for a cohesive feel and topped it off with a chic beige trench coat—a timeless layer that instantly elevates a simple jeans-and-sweater combo.

London Fog raincoat (S) // EVEREVE sweater vest (M) // PAIGE jeans (29) // Jeffrey Campbell flats (8.5) // Mulberry Amberley // Jenny Bird hoops // Baublebar necklace
#13. This one uses a striped sweater again, but in a deeper chocolate brown for a richer fall feel. I paired it with brown boots and a matching brown bag to keep the tones cohesive, then layered on an olive barn jacket with a brown collar for a slightly more casual vibe that still feels polished.

similar barn jacket // stripe sweater (S) // wide leg jeans (30) (similar for less) // similar brown boots // messenger bag // black sunnies
#14. Here’s a fun look that mixes brown and black—a combo that’s a little unexpected but so chic. I paired a black top with chocolate brown wide-leg ankle jeans, and the leopard pumps tie it all together. I finished the look with a black leather jacket for a sleek, modern finish.

black sweater (S) (budget option) // leather jacket (budget option) // brown wide leg jeans // leopard pumps (8) (budget option) // black bag // earrings .// similar link bracelet // sunnies
#15. Speaking of leopard pumps… while a third piece always elevates an outfit, I often keep it simple. You can’t go wrong with a black top, blue jeans, and leopard pumps—it’s classic and effortlessly stylish. The key is to choose pieces with interesting details, whether it’s a print (like these shoes), texture (the ribbed top), or thoughtful design elements like a collar or buttons. I carried a brown bag instead of the more expected black to add contrast, and I like how it ties in with the brown tones in the shoes for a cohesive finish.

#16. Stripes are trending big time again this fall, and I’m still loving my Rails Geneva Cardigan—going on its third season in my closet! It’s the perfect mix of classic and current, and it pairs beautifully with both black and blue denim for an easy, polished look. In both of these outfits, I added black boots to tie in with the black stripes in the sweater and keep the look cohesive from top to bottom.

#17. When the weather turns colder, I can’t wait to pull out this White + Warren striped cashmere pullover. I styled it with blue jeans and a green quilted jacket with brown trim—mine sold out in the camel and ivory colorway, but I found a very similar version from Marine Layer! I finished the look with brown suede low-profile Adidas sneakers for a casual touch and my woven messenger bag to tie in the earthy tones.

#18. This camel topcoat is another one of my cold-weather favorites. I styled it over a hunter green sweater with grey jeans for a fresh twist on fall neutrals. To tie everything together, I added camel booties and a matching belt in slightly deeper shades than the coat. I love this color combination—it’s a little unexpected but so pleasing to the eye. What do you think?

#19. Here’s a monochromatic look featuring those same grey jeans. I often wear them with a black sweater and black boots, then layer on a black coat and my ivory, black, and red plaid scarf for a little pattern and contrast. In the look on the left, I chose a faux leather puffer jacket for a fun, edgy date night vibe, while on the right, I went with a long boucle wool coat for a more sophisticated finish.

vegan leather puffer jacket (S) // black wool coat (S) // black v-neck sweater // grey jeans (29) (budget option) // black boots (8) (budget option) // black belt (M) // similar earrings // plaid scarf (budget option)
#20. This look is similar to the one with the long wool coat, but I swapped in washed black straight-leg jeans and sneakers for a more casual vibe. I layered an ivory sweater underneath to tie in the scarf and shoes, creating a cohesive, relaxed take on a classic black-and-ivory combination.

black wool coat // ivory fisherman sweater (S) (budget option) // washed black jeans (similar for less) // white sneakers // similar black bag // plaid scarf (budget option)
#21. I also love this variation on the same outfit formula, featuring the ivory fisherman sweater with blue straight ankle jeans and a camel wool coat. I added a belt to pull the look together and tie in the camel tones from the coat. The sneakers I wore here had camel accents (they’re no longer available), but my trusty VEJA sneakers with Sable accents would be a great alternative.

similar camel wool coat (budget option) // ivory fisherman sweater (S) (budget option) // blue jeans (29) (budget option) //white sneakers (39) // belt (M) (option)
#22. And here’s that ivory fisherman sweater again—this time paired with a green puffer vest, blue jeans, and brown boots, along with a matching belt and bag to keep the tones cohesive. I was so happy to find a similar vest at Gap Factory this season—it’s such a great layering piece for casual fall days.

#23. Cropped barn jackets are a big trend this fall, and this one has a waxed coating that adds a cool texture contrast to the outfit. I styled it with wide-leg jeans, a cashmere tee, and heeled ankle boots for a mix of rugged and refined. Mine is from last year, but I linked a few similar styles below that capture the same look.

#24. When in doubt, I love to put together an all-black outfit. The key is to mix textures so it doesn’t fall flat and to accessorize thoughtfully for the occasion. Here, the luxe knit, leather jacket, washed black denim, and suede booties come together beautifully for an edgy-luxe vibe. I finished the look with oversized sunglasses, a chunky chain-link bracelet, and a black leather belt with a gold buckle—small details that make the outfit feel polished and intentional.

#25. This is the oldest outfit in the post—going all the way back to fall of 2020—but I still love it and would absolutely wear it again today (just in my new, slightly bigger sizes… #thanksmenopause). The grey cashmere turtleneck gives it a luxe feel, while the leather jacket adds an edgy touch. I styled it with washed black jeans and sneakers to keep the look casual yet elevated—proof that great outfit formulas really do stand the test of time.

I love this kind of post! It’s so helpful to see so many different ways to style jeans, as that is practically all I wear. I also appreciate that you made all the looks Pinterest friendly. Thanks for taking the time to put this post together!
Glad it’s helpful!
I was just going to ask about this post and how to save it to Pinterest…pardon my cluelessness…how do I do that? I don’t see the little symbol by any of the pictures
They are there – but they are very light taupe. Look in the top lefthand corner of each photo. You can also install the Pinterest extension on your browser so you can pin from any site. I have that too.
Thank you! For some reason I thought they were always in the top left corner (and also thought they were always red)
Hi Jolene
I have an older but like new long navy coat that I would like to wear some this winter. What boots would look best with it?
I am in my seventies but still like a small heel.
Thanks so much. I enjoy your blog every day .
Mary
Thanks, Mary! I love to pair cognac or chocolate brown footwear with navy.
Charcoal gray looks fantastic with navy. And if you want to be very YSL, black!
So helpful when putting outfits together! Ty!
My favorite looks: 3, 10, 14, 19, 24, 25, which are all either low-contrast or monochromatic. Must be my thing! 🙂
Jo-Lynne, I love your style!! I would be happy to wear any of these outfits, and I can copy some of them. Thanks for your work in showing us all these great ideas. I’m excited for the cooler weather! I’m in the market for an affordable AND COMFORTABLE pair of leather ankle boots. If they are comfortable, I will wear them a lot. You’ve said you have some foot issues, so…have you done a post on this topic? If so, I missed it! Thanks!
Hey Linda, I posted a huge Fall Boot Guide last week. I didn’t really focus on “comfort boots”, but a lot of these are comfortable, lol!
I hope that you and Cyndi have a great time together! Thanks for all of the outfit inspirations. Your outfits will definitely assist me in creating more outfits with the pieces I have in my wardrobe.
Great post and outfit inspiration! Enjoy Cindy!
Great post, Jo-Lynne! You girls have fun💕💕💕
Go JAYS Go!
Thank you for showing the variety of what to wear with jeans. That’s all I wear now and this was so helpful. Have fun with Cyndi.
Great post. My very favourite is #18.
I use La Mer foundation that is now discontinued. I’m wondering if you have found another brand that is comparable to their formulation. It gave me a flawless, glowing finish that lasted all day.
I haven’t. When I saw it was being discontinued, I bought up a bunch of them in shades close to my favorites, lol.
Great post today Jo Lynne!! And I too am grateful for the ability to save to Pinterest. Have fun with Cyndi! I’ve been reading both your blogs for along time now. 💕
I have the camel coat from GapFactory. I love seeing in with more casual clothes. Proving that it isnt only for mysunday best. I also love the Rust jeans with cropped trench coat. These are some get ideas for work sense i can wear jeans.
Yes, I love pairing long wool coats with casual looks.
Enjoyed your post–funny how a grey sweater and a black vest or jacket stand the test of time and always make you feel good. I discovered last year–wearing a white tee under the crew neck sweaters just adds alittle something extra. I bought 2 different colors of a Gap sweater that you showed last fall and wore them that way. Looking forward to wearing them again this year–they are well made and cotton–love them.
