I crowd-sourced Mother’s Day plans in our Facebook community, and the consensus was pretty clear: most of us are keeping things pretty casual this year. The most common plans were church and/or brunch, backyard cookouts, and a few winery outings—which sounds super fun. I may have to copy that one myself.

There were also quite a few of you driving home from college graduations, but I’m guessing those outfits are already spoken for by now. For today’s post, I put together outfit ideas for each of those occasions—and of course, these looks aren’t just for Mother’s Day. They’re the kind of easy, polished outfits you can wear all spring and summer long.
Winery Style: Relaxed but Polished
When I think of winery style, I think of something relaxed but polished. It’s the perfect opportunity to wear an easy midi dress like this soft cotton jersey sleeveless style with the tie waist in a beautiful fresh green. Flat shoes are a must, and these raffia slides ground the look while adding warm contrast and summery texture.

dress // sandals // bag // sweater // earrings // necklace
I also added a crochet bag with leather trim that coordinates nicely with the sandals, and it converts to a crossbody if you want to be hands-free. (Bonus, it’s on sale!)
If the weather turns cool, bring along a cardigan to throw on—or just drape it over your shoulders for a little added interest. And I love these ivory stone drop earrings for a subtle finishing touch. You could easily add a bracelet stack or a few delicate necklaces, too.

Mother’s Day Brunch: Classic with a Spring Twist
For church and brunch, I usually like to strike that balance between polished and comfortable—something that feels pulled together but not overly dressy.

blouse // white jeans // sandals // trench // shoulder bag // earrings // bangles
White jeans are always a great option this time of year, and I love them here paired with this pretty eyelet blouse. The soft blue feels fresh and springy, while the eyelet detail adds just enough texture and interest.
I dressed the look up a bit with metallic heeled sandals and gold jewelry, but the overall feel is still relaxed and wearable. The woven bag keeps it seasonal and ties in nicely with the neutral trench coat, which is perfect for a cool morning. This is one of those outfits that feels classic without being boring, and you could easily wear variations of it all season long.

Cookout Style: Easy & Polished
If your Mother’s Day plans involve a backyard cookout or hanging out with family at home, you want something casual, comfortable, and easy to move around in—but still cute enough to feel like you made a little effort.

EVEREVE always does such a good job with styling, so I pulled these three outfit ideas right from their site because they perfectly capture that relaxed, laid-back vibe while still looking polished.
Lightweight pants, easy tanks and tees, pull-on shorts, and flat sandals are the kinds of pieces that make sense for a casual afternoon outside. I also love the soft, beachy color palette here with the pale denim, muted stripes, and navy accents. These are the types of outfits you’ll reach for all summer long, not just on Mother’s Day.

Which look is most like what you’ll be wearing this Mother’s Day—winery chic, church and brunch, or casual cookout style? I bet you can guess which one I’ll pick. 😉

Of these three outfits, I’d be in camp “church and brunch” style-wise. I have all the (warm-weather friendly) components of that outfit already in my closet. 🙂
That family pic is adorable. Great outfit choices.Happy Mothers Day!
Church + visit to my mom + my daughter taking me to Chili’s = dressy casual
A winery trip sounds really good about now, since we are days from HS graduation & party.
I love your Mother’s Day photo from years ago!! I think you have a tshirt or sweater that exact shade of green! I am in the church-brunch group, but I will be dressing like the Winery group! After unpacking all my warm-weather clothes, I found that I have many many dresses and not many places to wear them! I have a sleeveless dress, cardigan, and even a The Sak purse very similar to the one pictured. Here in PA the weather is supposed to be warm and sunny…perfect! Celebrate all the mom figures in your lives this weekend!
Thanks Jolynne for this post. I was trying to find something in the stores and came up short. Just ordered the green Boden dress! 👗
I will be in the church and brunch group, but I like to wear dresses to church. I have 2 new ones coming today, I’ll have to choose between.
Love the picture ♥️ I will go to church and brunch category.
We made last-minute fancy brunch plans, and the first outfit seems perfect! I already have a version of this.
