Best of The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale So Far

Happy Monday, friends! The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is NOW open to Nordy Club Influencers for shopping online and in-stores. (On Thursday, 8/13, the #NSale will be open to all cardholders.)

This tiered opening is kind of annoying, I won’t lie; but it has definitely cut down on the chaos and confusion, canceled orders, and general frustration that has come with shopping the #NSale in recent years, as it has taken on a life of its own.

While some of the most popular items are selling out, there is so much that is not, and I’ve found a few hidden treasures that I can’t wait to share with you. Plus, I was told that they are holding some inventory back to release as the different levels open up. I hope this is true!

I still plan to tackle a few more categories — Beauty, Home, and Teen Picks — but before I do that, I want to post a recap of my best finds that are still in stock, some hidden treasures I’ve discovered, and my personal recommendations for those shopping the sale.

My Best Tips

#1. Get your Wish List ready!

If you can’t shop yet, this is your time to figure out your budget, audit your closet, and prioritize your needs and wants. You can make one big Wish List, or several smaller ones in priority order.

Then when it’s time to shop, check off the items you want to add to cart, or click “select all” in the bottom righthand corner, and then click Add to Bag!

#2. Shop early.

Things do sell out quickly, especially on the day a new tier opens up to shop the sale, so definitely get online as close to 9:30 AM EST as possible, and make your purchase.

If you have enjoyed my #NSale coverage and want to help support my business, you can stop here and click through any of my Nordstrom links before checking out, and I earn a small commission on your purchase.

#3. Pay for faster shipping to ensure your order is prioritized.

Yes, this cuts into your cost savings, but if you’re placing a large order, it’s worth it to ensure you don’t get canceled items or significant delays.

#4. Make it a Double Points day!

Don’t forget to use a Double Points day on the day you make your biggest order. You can designate it at checkout, or if you forget, you can do it anytime that day.

Just go to Your Account on the Nordstrom website, click Nordy Club, click on Personal Double Points Days and then select Make Today Your Day.

You will earn Double Points on all of your purchases from the entire day — online and in-store.

My Nordstrom Sale Faves So Far

Okay, let’s get to the fun part! My Nordstrom faves so far!

#1. Spanx The Perfect Black Pant Back Seam Skinny Pants $84.90; After Sale: $128.00

These pants just came in the mail, and I am SO excited to share them with you. I struggle with finding pants I like that don’t make me feel frumpy, and these are insanely flattering and comfortable.

They have a pull-on design that hits at your natural waist, and a shaping panel that targets the tummy for a flat front with no muffin top. There are faux front pockets and back welt pockets for a tailored, seamless appearance; and seams up the back with a small slit in the ankle finish the look and elongate the legs.

The material is nice and thick and comfortable; they have a 26″ regular inseam with a 10″ leg opening so they fit like your favorite cropped skinnies. They are absolute perfection. Size up, though. I have the medium.

I’ve been playing around with these and I plan to bring you a post on 5 ways to wear them very soon! They already have 90 positive reviews, so they’ve clearly been around for a while, and weren’t brought out just for this sale. Such a good investment in your wardrobe if they fit your life and style.

#2. Franco Sarto Asti Bootie $89.90; After Sale: $154.95

This is my top pick for a low-heeled fashion bootie. They fit true to size, they’re very comfortable, and the low shaft makes them perfect for pairing with ankle-length skinny jeans. Because they’re leather, you can wear them in messy weather, which is always a plus.

Also, notice the angular, stacked heel and the tiny dome studs tracing the counter. Such nice details!

This is the taupe snake, but they also come in black leather, caramel croco, and espresso lizard. They’re TTS; I have the 8.

#3. Eileen Fisher V-Neck Sleeveless Knit Dress $99.90; After Sale: $198.00

I’ve shared a lot about this dress already, but it is hands-down one of my favorite finds from this year’s #NSale. The nice thing is, you can pretty much wear it 3 seasons out of the year — it looks great with booties and a denim jacket, or like I wore it yesterday to church, by itself with sandals.

The quality and fit and attention to detail is amazing. The hibiscus color I’m wearing has oddly disappeared, but the black is fully stocked, and I’m still debating ordering that one as well. It runs very big, so I recommend sizing down; I have the XS.

#4. Vionic Bianca Suede Sandal $89.90; After Sale: $139.95

I love a suede sandal this time of year; it’s such a great late summer/early fall transition shoe, and these are sleek and gorgeous and have Vionic comfort to boot!

They look amazing with jeans, the Spanx pants (as pictured above) and dresses too. They’re TTS; I have the 8.

#5. Marc Fisher LTD. Oshay Pointed Toe Bootie $99.90; After Sale: $189.95

This is my top pick for a heeled ankle boot. These are gorgeous and a great value for the price. The 3 1/4″ stacked heel is the perfect height, in my opinion. I like the extra stature, but they’re still very walkable.

They have a higher shaft, so you will probably need to cuff your skinny jeans or wear a cropped length, but they also look great with dresses.

I had the cognac suede, and I traded them for the cloud suede, and I’m kind of wishing I’d kept both. The cognac is definitely a warmer neutral, which is nice for fall, but I wear a lot of cool tones, so I thought I’d get more wear out of the cloud.

At any rate, you can’t go wrong with either. They also come in black snake, black leather, and ivory leather. They’re TTS; I have the 8.

#5. KUT from the Kloth Donna Button Fly Ankle Skinny Jeans

These are my top pick for under-$100 skinny jeans. I love the fit, the wash, the subtle distressing, and the button-fly.

Plus the rear pockets are a nice size and perfectly placed. These jeans have a 27″ inseam, 9 1/2″ leg opening, and 10 1/4″ front rise.

They also come in a nice off-black wash, and if you don’t care for button-front, this pair is good too.

#6. Caslon Utility Jacket (low inventory) $45.90; After Sale: $79.00

I love this update on the utility jacket. It’s much more flattering and feminine than the longer utility jackets with the drawstring waist. The material is lightweight and soft, and it would complement so many outfits this fall. I’m crossing my fingers it gets restocked!!! It runs TTS, or size up if in between; I have the small.

#7. Söfft Somers III Sneaker Mule $69.90; After Sale: $109.95

Every fall wardrobe needs an easy slip-on sneaker for your most casual days, and this pair by Söfft is an amazing value. They’re leather inside and out, they have a ton of padding and arch support in the footbed, and this camo print is a fun way to update this classic look. They’re TTS; I have the 8.

#1. Vince Henderson Chelsea Boot $249.90; After Sale: $395.00

These boots are insanely gorgeous and also practical. I love the lugged sole and the 3″ heel on a 3/4″ platform for the perfect marriage of height and walkability.

I’m still waiting for the leather pair to come in to compare. The suede is stunning, though, and they’re weatherproof, so I may end up keeping the suede.

They also come in a dark grey suede, a military green suede, and a sand color. They run TTS; I have the 8.

#2. Coach Courier Leather Convertible Bag $299.90; After Sale: $495.00

I can’t believe I haven’t taken a picture yet with this bag. I really need to remedy that. I did review it extensively on my IG Story a few days ago, if you want to check that out in my #NSale Highlight.

But this bag is every bit as gorgeous in person as I was hoping it would be. It’s also very functional.

It also comes in citron and a gorgeous brown that is perfect for fall.

#3. Caslon Leather Moto Jacket with Removable Hood $178.90; After Sale: $299.00

Caslon does it again with this leather moto with removable hood. I love the layered look for a more sporty vibe. It runs TTS, or size up if in between; I have the small.

If you are in the market for a black leather moto, I recommend checking out this Bernardo one. I have a Bernardo leather jacket that I’ve worn to death over the past few years, and it’s still in great shape.

#4. Vince Wool & Cashmere Sweater $199.90; After Sale: $345.00

The v-neck cashmere sweater I was so excited about is selling out, so I won’t tease you with that. Instead, I just picked up this gorgeous pink wool/cashmere sweater, and I’m totally smitten.

I’m finding the pink such a breath of fresh air next to all of the neutrals that I’ve been gravitating to lately, but if you’re more of a neutrals gal, it does come in black and a gorgeous shade of beige.

It’s pricey, but it’s one of those classic pieces you can have in your closet for years because it won’t go out of style. It’s TTS; I’m wearing the small.

I also really like this one in the olive and black stripe.

This is the same sweater as the pink, but in a stripe. (It also comes in grey/white.) I sized up to a medium in this, though. It’s all they had in the store, and I kind of like the slouchier fit in the stripes.

#5. Mother Looker Ripped High Waist Fray Ankle Skinny Jeans $158.90; After Sale: $238.00

I’ve already talked extensively about these jeans in Friday’s Try-On Haul, so I’ll just give them a little shout-out there since I finally decided to keep them.

Honestly, this is the first year I haven’t been really excited about the denim in the #NSale. It’s not that they don’t have any good picks, but every single pair has something I would like to change about them — whether it’s the rise or the inseam length or the wash.

That said, there are some really good deals on premium denim, so I’ll round up more of my top picks below.

#6. Nordstrom Signature Open Front Cashmere Cardigan $178.90; After Sale: $299.00

This is my top pick for a splurge-worthy cardigan. It’s so gorgeous and a classic wardrobe piece you can enjoy for many years. I did size down to an XS in this one. It also comes in navy and beige.

I don’t have pictures of these for obvious reasons, but I wanted to round up my favorites. This sale is a great time to stock up on basics like bras and underwear, and they also have some great loungewear!

  1. Thank you for ALL the shopping tips.  I have the camo mules on my wish list.  I’ve got sort of a wide foot and after hearing your description on your IG story I thought they just might fit!! And I can do my daughters proud by being “in style”!!  Also I’ve got the Barefoot Dreams cardigan in the Spruce on my list, my neck is always cold, so I’ve opted for the Circle Lite style.  Per your recommendations from last year, I bought 2 of them, best purchase ever for a cardigan!!  Since I’m the cardholder my daughter is also ordering thru me, so I’ll be ordering thru your links!  She’s in love with the Barefoot Dreams throw, as well as the cardigans.  I also have the Dr.Scholls calfskin loafers on my list, they come in wide!  And the jewelry! So much fun, right?  Thanks for keeping us in the loop!

  2. So happy to hear you liked the Franco Sarto bootie. They were one of the first items I put on my wish list as I can’t wear more than a 2 1/2 inch heel. My order should be arriving tomorrow. Thanks for your great coverage of the sale!

  3. I cannot shop until Thursday and I know those Franco Sarto booties are going to sell out 🙁 I have some things on my wishlist that no blogger has talked about. I sorta feel that all the bloggers go for the same items, do you think that’s the case also ? There are some Tory Burch loafers that look amazing and the small Madewell Transport tote neither of which have been mentioned at all by anyone that I follow. I know there is ALOT to cover. Thanks for your posts, it does help narrow down the good deals and I am know it’s super time consuming for you.

    1. I think we kind of know what sells and what is trending, and we are drawn to a lot of the same things. But I also think the way the website loads, it features certain things and those are seen first. I always go through every page of the sale for each category, but that takes a few days, so I tend to jump on the things that I see first and promote those right away before going back through more thoroughly.

Which things are on your list that you haven’t seen? I’d be curious. 🙂

  4. JoLynne,
I have 2 questions. First, how do the KFTK Donna skinny jeans fit? I wear 27 in Madewell, but 28 fits better in AG. Would you go with 27 or 28 if you were me?
Second, if you were just going to choose one bag would you choose the Coach Crossbody or the Tory Burch Tote?
    Thanks,
    Amy

    1. Hm, I wear 28 in both madewell and AG and I have a 6 in the Donna. They definitely don’t run as big as some Kut styles.

I vote Coach. The tote is a nice basic if you need that, but the Coach bag is unique and fun.

  5. I like the Mother jeans but ended up ordering the Paige jeans with the one ripped knee. I also ordered the AG Mari high waist jean, but I haven’t seen any bloggers featuring or even mentioning the AG jeans selection in the sale this year. Have you tried any on? I also bought the Paige Skyline crop but haven’t seen that one mentioned either.

    1. I was very disappointed with the AG selection this year. I did notice the Mari and flagged it in my NSale preview post, but I didn’t see it in-store, and didn’t order it. The wash looks a little dated to my eye – it’s a classic AG wash that I’ve seen for so many years, I dunno. I couldn’t get excited enough to order. And the only Farrah in the sale is a suuuper faded pale blue. I don’t know. I think they missed the mark this year. Let me know if you like the Mari.

I also noticed the Paige skyline crop – but I got the Mother crop and like that wash better. And I’m not even sure I like that length with my fall shoes and sweaters. I like it for summer, but I think for fall, I’m liking the 27″ best.

      1. I’ll let you know about the Mari. I’ve never tried that style before so I was curious, and also hoped that the leg opening would be wide enough to fit over my Marc Fisher Alva booties, which I bought last year and are very similar to the ones in the sale. When selecting jeans I try to be mindful of what will be acceptable at the office (whenever I return!) and try not to do a lot of light washes or distressing. For that reason I wasn’t attracted to the light wash Farrah. I’m 5’3″ so the Paige skyline might be longer on me.

        1. I also ordered the Mari. I keep holding out hope that I may find a cropped straight that looks good on my short self, lol. I know I’ll need to get them hemmed, if I keep them, but really hoping they work out.

  6. I’m interested in the black pants but curious if you feel they’re more like a legging.  What about the sizing?  Did you need to size up so they don’t look like leggings?

    1. They so have a legging-like fit, but because of the leg opening and the seam up the back, and the faux pockets, they look like pants. I definitely recommend sizing up. I have the medium.

  7. I have enjoyed your coverage of NAS and appreciate all the time and energy you have put into your posts. I was trying to find the post you did, maybe on Facebook, on the different Nordstrom labels and listed them according to quality and price. Could you give me a link? Thanks.

  8. Is it time for Insiders or Influencers to shop? I think you said insiders in the heading of your email and I got excited.

    1. I’m sorry. I’m an idiot. I can’t keep these stupid levels straight, and I got confused. I knew it wasn’t all cardholders, but I got the Insider/Influencer thing mixed up.

  9. Thank you so much for providing a few tips to make our online purchasing go faster and easier!  The JCrew tee is showing XS as the only size left, now that I’ve realized I have several pairs of pants it would look great with.  My fingers are crossed that it gets restocked.

  10. I have the utility jacket on my wishlist.  Such a great style!  I hope it’s still available when I can order!

  11. Great picks Jo-Lynne.  I hope some things are left by the time I can shop. I would like to order those black pants, #1.  I love that style pant and they sound sooo comfortable. With the Rayon in them do you think they will wrinkle easily?  Also you said size up? I’m 5’3″ and about 118-120lbs. Would I still order small?  Thanks.

  12. I was looking forward to finding what the Nordstrom Sale is all about….certainly a LOT of hype about it. Well sad to say very disappointed. I liked that Vince sweater with the stripes…..nope not on the Canadian site. I liked the Eileen Fisher dress….nope not on the Canadian version of the Sale. Seems that is the case for almost all the items I looked at. Apparently Nordstrom does not care if their Sale is fair at all locations/countries…..even if it is not the same in the stores the web offerings could easily be the same.  Sad to say a lot of hype but no substance.

  13. Jolynne,  I love your style and have enjoyed your blog.  I am 5’11” and would love to purchase some premium denim.  My go to has been Madwell for tall size jeans, but often they do not offer the updated styles in tall sizes.  Do you have any recommendations for denim in long lengths?

    1. Yes, what style are you looking for? Hudson, Paige, and Good American often have longer lengths.

I loved this pair of rag & bone skinnies, but they were too long for me without cutting some off: https://shopstyle.it/l/blsAl

This Paige pair is more of a slim straight, with a 31″ inseam, so it may be ankle length on you: https://shopstyle.it/l/blsD3

And these Hudson skinnies have a 34″ inseam: https://shopstyle.it/l/blsEf

This Paige bootcut has a 35″ inseam: https://shopstyle.it/l/blsEa

  14. Oh my! I don’t even know where to start! There are so many good things in this post! That is one thing I noticed this year is that so many things were NOT in my store and usually there are more in store vs the catalog! Those Kut jeans looks amazing on your backside! And the Coach bag is beautiful. I might have caved on that had my store had it!!!

  15. Okay, so I bought the Spanx pants and I need your honest advice. My and your sizes are the same (except for shoes), although I’m 2 inches shorter. My question is.. I need to hem them probably one cuff higher. Do you think they’ll be okay if I do that? They kind of cut in tighter on that bottom band. Do you think they’ll lay right? I’m going to try and have the alterer (?) put the slit back in. Thanks Jo-Lynne.
