My Latest Summer Try-On: Tops, Dresses, Denim & More

Happy Friday, friends! I have a new try-on haul for you today, and this one’s a fun mix of tops, dresses, denim, lightweight pants, shoes, and more from EVEREVE, Madewell, PAIGE, Talbots, Frank & Eileen, Aritzia, J.Crew, LOFT, and several other favorite brands. With all of the July 4th sales happening right now, quite a few of these pieces are at some of their best prices of the season.

As always, I’m sharing my honest thoughts, fit notes, and whether each piece is staying in my closet, getting returned, or I’m still deciding.

Sizing Notes: My sizes have started to shift recently. I still wear a small or medium in tops and dresses, and a 29 or 30 in jeans and pants, although I can wear a 29 in most styles now. For height reference, I’m 5’5″. Gifted items are marked c/o; everything else was purchased by me.

Summer Styles from EVEREVE

Let’s start off with some summer styles from EVEREVE that have come in lately!

Isobel Sweater Vest in Chocolate

at EVEREVE (M) // PAIGE Anessa Twisted (29) // Loeffler Randall Jovie c/o (8)

PRODUCT DETAILS: Crafted from soft cotton, the Isobel Sweater Vest features a crew neckline, rib knit trim, and a slightly cropped silhouette.

  • Measurements: Length from Shoulder to Hem: 20″
  • Material: 100% Cotton Knit
  • Care: Hand wash cold, dry flat

MY THOUGHTS: I’m always a sucker for a short-sleeve sweater in the summer, and this one checks a lot of boxes. The 100% cotton knit has an airy open-weave texture that’s right on trend, and the chocolate brown color feels fresh for summer but will also transition beautifully into fall.

The 20″ length is ideal for wearing untucked with higher-rise jeans and pants, and the fabric has a nice drape that keeps the fit flattering rather than boxy. One thing to note: it is slightly sheer, so I’m wearing a black bra underneath.

Fit note: I’m wearing the medium, and I think it’s the right fit for me. I suspect the small would have been a little too short.

VERDICT: Keeping!

Joelle Utility Pant in Stargazer

at EVEREVE (29) // Isobel Sweater Vest (M) // Steve Madden Tracie (8)

PRODUCT DETAILS: Topped with utility-style pockets, the Joelle wide leg pants by EVEREVE feature a high-rise waist, cuffed hems, and comfortable stretch linen fabric for day-to-night ease.

  • Measurements: Front rise: 11 1/2″, inseam length: 29″, leg opening: 24″
  • Material: 53% Linen, 44% Lyocell, 3% Spandex Woven
  • Care: Machine wash, tumble dry low

MY THOUGHTS: I shared these pants in my post on My Favorite Lightweight Pants for Hot Weather, but since taking those photos, I’ve sized down to the 29. Looking back, I think the larger size already looked a bit roomy, and these do relax slightly as you wear them, so I’d definitely recommend sizing down if you’re between sizes.

I really like that the 29″ inseam creates a modern elongated silhouette that still works well with both flats and heels, but doesn’t get caught under my foot when I’m wearing open-back shoes.

The linen-blend fabric is lightweight and comfortable, and it holds its shape well without wrinkling nearly as much as 100% linen. I also love the deep textured navy color, the sleek flat front, and the comfortable 11 1/2″ rise. They also come in white and olive.

VERDICT: Keeping! I’ve already worn them once.

Z Supply Sloane Jersey Muscle Tank in Lychee

at EVEREVE (M) // PAIGE Mason (30) // beek Sunbeam (8)

PRODUCT DETAILS: A must-have summer staple, the Sloane muscle tank by Z Supply is crafted from soft cotton jersey with a crew neckline and relaxed, cropped fit.

  • Measurements: Length from Shoulder to Hem: 19 1/2″
  • Material: 100% Cotton Jersey
  • Care: Machine wash, gentle cycle, dry flat

MY THOUGHTS: This is a cute, bra-friendly muscle tank with a boxy, slightly cropped silhouette in soft 100% cotton jersey. I love this bright orangey-red shade for summer, and it also comes in a faded black with a bit of an edgy feel.

Sloane Muscle Tank (L) // KUT from the Kloth shorts (6) // Loeffler Randall flip flops (8) // Clare V. Grande Fanny

Fit note: This one runs a bit small. I’m wearing the medium here, and it just barely fits. I also have the washed black in a large, and I actually prefer that fit. It’s a little swingier with just a touch more length, which I find more flattering and easier to style.

VERDICT: Keeping the washed black in the large.

Holland V Neck Sweatshirt in Heather Grey

at EVEREVE (M) // PAIGE Mason (30) // beek Sunbeam (8) // J.Crew beaded necklace

PRODUCT DETAILS: Finished in comfortable cotton-blend fabric, the Holland pullover sweatshirt by EVEREVE is perfect for your everyday wardrobe, featuring a V-neckline, cap sleeves, and ribbed trim.

  • Measurements: Length from Shoulder to Hem: 23″
  • Material: 60% Cotton, 40% Polyester Knit
  • Care: Machine wash cold, hang to dry

MY THOUGHTS: This is such a fun sweatshirt-inspired pullover for summer. The V-neck, cap sleeves, and banded hem give it a sporty, vintage feel, and the heather grey really leans into that classic sweatshirt look. It’s lightweight enough for warm weather, and I especially like it paired with white shorts or denim for an easy casual outfit.

Fit note: I’m wearing the medium, and it’s a little roomy on me, but I think the small would lose some of the relaxed look.

VERDICT: Keeping! It’s such a cute casual piece, and I know I’ll get a lot of wear out of it this summer, once this heat wave is over.

Melissa Nepton Medina Blouse in Dark Charcoal

at EVEREVE (S) // PAIGE Anessa in Tonal Ecru (30) // Sam Edelman Camille (8)

PRODUCT DETAILS: Adorned with lace cap sleeves and a ruffled collar, the Melissa Nepton Medina Blouse is perfect for your everyday wardrobe, featuring a button-front silhouette, cotton fabric, and textured vertical stitching.

  • Measurements: Length from Shoulder to Hem: 23 1/2″
  • Material: 100% Cotton Woven
  • Care: Hand wash cold, dry flat

MY THOUGHTS: This is a beautiful top with lovely details and high-quality fabric. It’s fully lined but still lightweight and breezy, and I love the washed black color. I just wish it had a little more shape through the body. Plus, it feels slightly long on me, which makes the proportions a bit tricky. I may try it with a slimmer pair of jeans before making a final decision.

VERDICT: Probably not keeping this one, but I’d like to see how it looks with a different pair of jeans before I decide.

Nation Los Angeles Selma V Neck Tank in Olive

at EVEREVE (M) // Madewell Jules in Vintage Canvas (29) // Reef Solaye (8) // J.Crew necklace

PRODUCT DETAILS: Crafted from pima cotton, the Selma Tank by Nation Los Angeles features a V-neckline, shoulder gathering, and a center front seam.

  • Measurements: Length from Shoulder to Hem: 22 1/2″
  • Material: 100% Pima Cotton Knit
  • Care: Machine wash cold, tumble dry low

MY THOUGHTS: This is a really cute tank with an easy, flattering fit. I love the V-neck, the soft 100% Pima cotton knit, and the little details like the shoulder gathering and center seam that make it feel a bit more special than a basic tank. The olive green is a great neutral, too. I paired it with ecru jeans and brown jelly flip-flops for an easy summer outfit.

Fit note: I’d recommend sizing up if you’re between sizes. The medium fits me perfectly.

VERDICT: I really like this one, but I probably don’t need it. It feels a little reminiscent of styles I’ve worn in the past, even though the shorter length keeps it feeling current. If you don’t already have something similar, though, I think it’s a great everyday summer top.

Frankie Utility Vest in Birch

at EVEREVE (S) // PAIGE Anessa Twisted (30) // André Assous Anfisa (8)

PRODUCT DETAILS: Add a layer to your warm-weather wardrobe with the Frankie Vest by EVEREVE, featuring a point collar, front zipper, and utility details.

  • Measurements: Length from Shoulder to Hem: 20 1/4″
  • Material: 53% Linen, 44% Lyocell, 3% Spandex Woven
  • Care: Machine wash cold, tumble dry low

MY THOUGHTS: I absolutely love this utility-inspired vest. The soft canvas color paired with the silver hardware gives it a polished, modern feel, and the cut is incredibly flattering. It’s such an easy piece to throw on with jeans, but it feels special enough that it doesn’t need much in the way of accessories.

Fit note: I’m wearing the small, and it fits true to size. If you’re between sizes, I’d consider sizing down.

VERDICT: Keeping! I actually wore this exact outfit to meet a friend for drinks the day after I tried it on.

André Assous Anfisa Espadrille Wedge Sandal in Beige

at Nordstrom (8) // PAIGE Anessa Braided (30) // PAIGE Anessa Twisted (30)

PRODUCT DETAILS: Transparent straps lend ethereal grace to an espadrille sandal balanced by a jute-wrapped wedge for a look of boho-chic glam.

  • Measurements: 3 1/4″ heel; 1″ platform
  • Material: Synthetic upper/leather lining and sole

MY THOUGHTS: I wanted a little height, but nothing too high for some of my longer jeans, and these sandals are really fun and comfortable. The clear straps make them easy to wear with just about everything, too.

VERDICT: Keeping!

Easy Summer Tops

In addition to the EVEREVE pieces above, I also tried several tops from a few other favorite retailers.

Striped Boatneck Top in Bright Cherry

c/o Ann Taylor (M) – 40% off // Joelle Utility Pants (30) // Sam Edelman Calla Sandals (8)

PRODUCT DETAILS: Versatile wardrobe staples like this boatneck top are the perfect foundation for any outfit.

  • Measurements: 21 1/2″ long
  • Material: 65% modal 28% viscose 7% spandex

MY THOUGHTS: This is such a fun little top. I love the soft modal-blend fabric, the boat neckline, and the fitted silhouette. It has a nice, elevated feel while still being casual enough to pair with denim or shorts.

On me, the stripes didn’t lay quite right across my chest, which is something I often notice with horizontal stripes. If that isn’t an issue for you, I think it’s a really great basic.

VERDICT: Passing for me, but I still think it’s a really cute top.

Roma Tank in Eucalyptus

c/o Splendid (L) // Risen OG Straight c/o Social Threads (30) // beek Palila c/o (8)

PRODUCT DETAILS: A fitted tank that keeps things simple in the best way. Soft, stretchy, and easy to style, it’s the kind of piece you’ll wear on repeat with denim, layers, and everything in between.

  • Material: 54% Cotton 38% Viscose 8% Spandex
  • Care: Machine wash cold

MY THOUGHTS: I love the shorter length of this bra-friendly ribbed tank, and this is such a pretty shade of green. It looks great with high-rise jeans or shorts, and it also makes a great layering piece under cardigans or jackets. I especially like that it hits at just the right spot, so it doesn’t need to be tucked in.

VERDICT: Keeping!

Erica Cardigan in White

c/o Splendid (M) // Splendid Roma Tank c/o (L) // Risen OG Straight c/o (30) // Steve Madden Tracie Jelly Sandals c/o (8)

PRODUCT DETAILS: A classic cardigan in a smooth, lightweight knit. Easy, polished, and made to be worn on repeat.

  • Material: 40% Viscose 35% Nylon 25% Polyester
  • Care: Dry clean only

MY THOUGHTS: This is such a beautiful cardigan. I love the fine-gauge knit, and it’s incredibly soft and lightweight. It’s the perfect topper for summer. It looks great draped over the shoulders, layered over a tank, or even worn on its own as a lightweight sweater.

Fit note: I like the fit of the medium, so I’d size up if you’re between sizes.

VERDICT: Keeping, for sure. I also have it in navy.

Montecito Cardigan in White

c/o Frank & Eileen (S) // F&E Derry (30) // Tuckernuck Slide Sandals c/o (8)

PRODUCT DETAILS: Designed with a relaxed fit to easily (and elegantly!) pull on over your everyday staples, the Montecito Sweater is luxuriously soft in Pure Italian Cotton. A flattering continuous seam sleeve and an exaggerated crew neck add a modern touch to this beautifully made sweater, destined to become a new forever classic for your closet

  • Material: 100% Cotton
  • Care: Machine wash cold on a delicate cycle with like colors. Lay flat to dry or tumble dry low and remove promptly

MY THOUGHTS: This is an absolutely gorgeous sweater, but the price tag is a bit daunting—I won’t lie. To be completely transparent, I agreed to accept the gifting before I realized how expensive it was.

If it’s in your budget, though, it’s beautifully made. The 100% cotton knit is incredibly soft, and it has a relaxed, slightly slouchy fit that’s perfect with tailored linen shorts or denim. It makes me think of summer in Maine.

I tried styling it with white denim for an all-white look, and I love it. I actually think it’s more flattering on me than with the blue jeans because of the lower contrast.

In the outfit above, the proportions feel a little off, but the monochromatic look disguises that.

Frank & Eileen Montecito (S) // PAIGE Mason (30) // Reef Solaye (8)

VERDICT: I definitely don’t want to part with this one. It’s such a beautiful, timeless piece.

Madewell The Easy Crop Crewneck Tee in Soft Slub

at Madewell (M) // Madewell The Perfect Vintage Mid Length Short (30) // Madewell Iggy c/o (8)

PRODUCT DETAILS: Coming in our best-selling light and airy Soft Slub jersey from Peru, this easy crewneck tee is cropped at just the right length to hit the waistband of high-rise jeans.

  • Measurements: Body length from high point of shoulder: 21″
  • Material: 100% jersey cotton
  • Care: Machine wash

MY THOUGHTS: This is pretty much the perfect boxy tee in a light, airy slub jersey. I tried both the small and the medium, and while the small fits, I actually prefer the medium. It gives me a little more length and room through the body, plus it allows for a bit of shrinkage if that happens in the wash.

I really like it with these high rise jean shorts, and I also tried it with linen pants because this is a look I’m seeing everywhere right now—the boxy tee with relaxed linen trousers and minimalist sandals.

I added some jewelry and a bag to give the outfit a little more personality.

I tried a front tuck and a full tuck, but I still don’t love this silhouette on me. I think I prefer a bit more structure on top when I’m wearing relaxed pants. That said, I really like this tee with the denim shorts.

The Easy Crop Crewneck (S) // Madewell Zoe (8) // Dolce Vita Lumen Sandals c/o (8) // necklace set // mini shopper bag

I also tried it with wide leg jeans, and I think it works here too.

The Easy Crop Crewneck Tee (M) // PAIGE Anessa (30) // André Assous Anfisa (8)

VERDICT: Keeping, but I’ll probably stick to pairing it with denim rather than relaxed trousers.

PAIGE Rhodes Tee in White

at Nordstrom & Paige.com (M) // MOTHER The Stashed Hustler Roller Sneak c/o (30) // Steve Madden Tracie (8)

PRODUCT DETAILS: Meet the Rhodes Tee, a modern nod to vintage ‘70s style. Crafted from our Pima cotton jersey material, this white tee feels ultra-soft with the perfect amount of structure. The wider ribbed neckline gives a subtle retro edge, while the boxy silhouette and slightly wider sleeves create an effortlessly cool, relaxed fit.

  • Measurements: 20 1/2″ length
  • Material: 100% cotton
  • Care: Machine wash, tumble dry

MY THOUGHTS: This is very similar to the Madewell tee, but it feels a bit more elevated thanks to the wider ribbed neckline and the center back seam. The 100% cotton has a really nice weight to it, and the overall quality is excellent.

I also played around with styling this one. Here I added a chunky red beaded necklace, which is kind of fun, but I’m not sure I love it with the wider ribbed neckline.

I also tried it with white jeans, a black belt, and black sandals, but the overall look still didn’t quite feel finished to me.

PAIGE Rhodes Tee (M) // PAIGE Tatum (30) // Quince 70mm Strappy Heel (8)

VERDICT: I don’t really need both, and the Madewell tee is significantly less of an investment. Since I’m not completely sold on the boxy silhouette, I think I’ll probably return the PAIGE and keep the Madewell. But if you’re looking for a more elevated version of this style, I think this one is beautifully made and worth considering.

Denim & Summer Bottoms

Next up, some fresh denim options and other trouser styles I’ve tried lately.

Madewell The Perfect Vintage Mid-Length Jean Short in Irmo Wash

c/o Madewell (30) – 25% off // The Easy Crop Crewneck Tee (M) // Madewell Iggy c/o (8)

PRODUCT DETAILS: The cut: these mid-length shorts feature a high waist and curve-enhancing back. The result? A relaxed, vintage-inspired fit that flatters from every angle.

  • Measurements: 11 1/2″ rise, 5″ inseam.
  • Material: 99% cotton/1% elastane.
  • Care: Machine wash.

MY THOUGHTS: I wanted to revisit these shorts because I’ve lost some weight since I originally tried them back in May. At the time, the size 30 was uncomfortably snug, and I wasn’t sure I liked the silhouette.

These are the photos from that round of try-ons:

Madewell Perfect Vintage Jean Shorts (30) //Madewell The Essential Tank (L) // Madewell Iggy Thong (8) // stretch bracelets

This high-rise style with the more relaxed leg opening is very on trend, but I’ve never gravitated toward shorts that flare out from my hips. Since my hips are wider in proportion to my legs, I feel like they tend to emphasize that.

That said, these aren’t quite as full through the leg as some styles, so I wanted to see if I felt differently now that I’ve sized down. I also paired them with a more relaxed tee this time, which I think creates a better overall proportion.

Madewell Perfect Vintage Jean Shorts (30) // Madewell The The Easy Crop Crewneck Tee (M) // Madewell Iggy Thong (8) // stretch bracelets

VERDICT: I definitely like the fit better now, but those rear pockets are rather large and in charge. I also have the KUT from the Kloth Jane, which have a similar silhouette, and I’m not sure I need both, but if you’re looking for a modern mid-length short with a relaxed leg, these are a solid option. They’re also 25% off with code LONGWEEKEND.

PAIGE Anessa 31″ Wide Leg Jean in Encino

c/o PAIGE & at Nordstrom (30) // Madewell The Easy Crop Crewneck Tee (M) // André Assous Anfisa (8)

PRODUCT DETAILS: Braided detailing along the pocket edges adds a subtle handcrafted touch, elevating the classic Anessa high-rise wide leg silhouette.

  • Measurements: Rise: 11 5/8″, inseam: 31″, leg opening: 22 1/2″
  • Material: 93% Cotton, 5% Polyester, 2% Spandex
  • Care: Machine wash cold, turn inside out, hang to dry

MY THOUGHTS: As you probably know, the PAIGE Anessa is one of my favorite wide-leg denim styles, and I love this updated version with the faded medium blue and braided detailing on the front and back pockets.

The extra details and finished hem give them a slightly more polished feel than the raw-hem pairs I already own, so they dress up a little more easily.

Fit note: I’m wearing the 30, but they’re definitely getting too big on me. If I were buying them today, I’d go with the 29.

VERDICT: If you’re looking for an elevated take on the Anessa, I think this is a beautiful version.

PAIGE Leenah 32″ Wide Leg Jean in Glendora

c/o PAIGE & at Nordstrom (30) // Madewell Easy Crop Tee (M) // André Assous Anfisa (8)

PRODUCT DETAILS: This sleek wide leg is designed with a flattering high rise and curved front pockets for a unique touch. In a medium blue wash with a 32″ inseam, this style is cut from HERITAGE denim, a fabric with a more structured feel and comfort stretch.

  • Measurements: 10 7/8″ rise, 32″ inseam, 22 1/4″ leg opening
  • Material: 98% cotton, 2% elastane
  • Care: Machine wash cold, turn inside out, hang to dry

MY THOUGHTS: I discovered the PAIGE Leenah a few years ago when I had a white version, and I’ve been a fan of this slim wide-leg silhouette ever since. The trouser-style hem and curved front pockets give them a polished, tailored feel that’s a little dressier than many wide-leg jeans, and the hook-and-bar closure is another nice tailored detail that elevates the overall look.

This dark blue wash is especially versatile, and I like the slightly lower 10 1/2″ rise. It’s still high enough to feel supportive, but it doesn’t come up quite as high as some of my other favorite styles.

VERDICT: I love these, if you’re looking for a polished wide-leg jean that can easily be dressed up or down, I highly recommend this style.

MOTHER The Stashed Hustler Roller Sneak in Whisk Me Away

c/o MOTHER & on sale at Nordstrom (30) // Madewell The Easy Crop Crewneck Tee (S) // Steve Madden Tracie (8)

PRODUCT DETAILS: Mix it up. 70s-inspired wide leg jeans with a high rise, zip fly, slit pockets, enamel buttons, a 32-inch inseam and a clean hem. Made from a blend of recycled stretch denim, Whisk Me Away is a mid-blue with subtle fading throughout.

  • Measurements: 32″ inseam; 24 1/2″ leg opening; 11″ front rise
  • Material: 79% cotton, 20% recycled cotton, 1% elastane
  • Care: Machine wash, tumble dry

MY THOUGHTS: The MOTHER Hustler Roller is my other favorite wide-leg denim style, as it has similar proportions to the PAIGE Anessa. This pair has some really fun details, like the enamel buttons and patch pockets. The finished hems keep them looking polished, while the medium blue wash gives them a relaxed, everyday feel.

When they first arrived, they didn’t fit, but I’m glad I held onto them because they fit perfectly now.

Fit note: I’m wearing the 30, and they fit me well. If you’re between sizes, I’d recommend sizing up.

VERDICT: Keeping! These are such a fun alternative to my other wide-leg jeans, and I love the vintage-inspired details.

Aritzia The Lodge Pant – Crepette in Black

on sale at Aritzia (M) // Homestretch Rib Tune T-Shirt (L) // Toteme heels (38) // tortoiseshell bangles – 40% off // SHASHI necklace

PRODUCT DETAILS: We took the elastic-waist pant and elevated it. These are high-rise pants beloved for their unmatched comfort and refined look. They’re made with Crepette™ — our one-of-a-kind Japanese crepe fabric beloved for its subtle texture, breezy drape and the fact that it basically never wrinkles.

  • Measurements: 30″ inseam (size S)
  • Material: 100% polyester
  • Care: Machine wash

MY THOUGHTS: I’m still trying to incorporate more trouser-style pants into my wardrobe, so I wanted to give the popular Aritzia Lodge Pants another try. Last winter, they felt uncomfortably tight at the waistband, but now they fit perfectly.

They really are a flattering pair of pants if you like this more relaxed silhouette. My biggest challenge is figuring out how to style them in a way that feels like me.

As I determined from the outfits above, I don’t love boxy tops with relaxed trousers on my frame, even though it’s a current way to wear them. This time I paired them with Aritzia’s fitted Homestretch tee instead, and I much prefer the proportions. (They’re all on sale right now, by the way!)

I tried to jazz up the outfit with some bangles and a necklace, but it still feels a little stark to me. I don’t think I’m crazy about the white top with black pants, so I need to play around with a few more combinations.

VERDICT: Keeping! Now that they fit properly, I’m excited to keep experimenting with different ways to style them. I also love that they’ll transition easily into fall and winter.

Aritzia The Lodge Pant – Cruise Linen in Rich Mocha Brown

on sale at Aritzia (M) // Homestretch Rib Tune T-Shirt (L) // Toteme Leather heeled flip flops (38) // tortoiseshell bangles – 40% off // SHASHI necklace

PRODUCT DETAILS: We took the elastic-waist pant and elevated it. These are high-rise pants beloved for their unmatched comfort and refined look. They’re made with CruiseLinen™ for wherever the day takes you.

  • Measurements: 30″ inseam (size S)
  • Material: 66% lyocell, 34% linen
  • Care: Machine wash

MY THOUGHTS: These are the same pants, but the lien version. For some reason, they felt a bit more voluminous to me.

I like these, but when I compare to the KUT Meg (also in a chocolate linen), I think the Meg is a bit more flattering on me. That said, they have a different vibe, so I’m not ruling these out just yet. There may be room for both in my wardrobe.

Aritzia HomeStretch Rib Tune T-Shirt (L) // KUT from the Kloth Meg (6) // Kaanas Alayta (8) – 50% off // Splendid Erica Cardigan c/o (M)

VERDICT: Still deciding. I want to try a few more outfits before I make a final call.

Aritzia HomeStretch Rib Tune T-Shirt in White

at Aritzia (L) // KUT from the Kloth Meg (6) // Kaanas Alayta (8) – 50% off // tortoiseshell bangles – 40% off // SHASHI necklace

PRODUCT DETAILS: This is a go-to crewneck t-shirt designed to fit tight. It’s made from Aritzia’s HomeStretch™ Rib — body-hugging, stretchy ribbed fabric with a cottony soft feel. For your everyday.

  • Measurements:
  • Material: 94% cotton, 6% elastane
  • Care: Machine wash

MY THOUGHTS: This is obviously not a summer bottom, but since I was wearing it with the Lodge pants, I figured I’d include it here. I wanted a more fitted top to pair with relaxed trousers, so I ordered this one to try.

I sized up to the large, as I often do with fitted tops, but I actually think it’s too big. As the description says, it’s designed to fit tight, so I might as well embrace that if I’m going to wear this style. I also ordered the black in a medium, and I definitely prefer the fit.

Of course, the darker color is a little more forgiving, too. I’d probably reserve the white one for a layering piece rather than a stand-alone tee.

VERDICT: Keeping the black in the medium and returning the white. I think this will be a great layering basic, especially with relaxed pants and jackets.

Summer Dresses

Summer dress season is in full swing, so I’ve been trying quite a few lately. Here are the a few of my favorites.

Boden Lorna Trim Double Cloth Dress

c/o Boden (10) // PAIGE Kylen Ankle Strap Wedge Sandal (8.5)

PRODUCT DETAILS: We’ve designed this dress with a deep V-neck (and back), defined waistband and subtle trim. All you need to do is throw it on, add sandals and feel good all day (home or away).

  • Material: 100% cotton
  • Care: Machine wash

MY THOUGHTS: This dress is really pretty. I love the white gauzy fabric, and the silhouette is surprisingly flattering, even though I don’t typically gravitate toward fuller styles.

The deep V-neck and defined waistband create a really flattering shape, and the lacy trim adds a pretty, feminine touch. It also has a V-back with long tassel ties, which gives it a fun, bohemian feel.

I especially love it styled with these gold strappy espadrille wedges. While they’re not the trendiest shoe silhouette at the moment, they’re such a timeless summer style, and I think they’re absolutely perfect with this dress.

Sadly, this one is too big on me. I held it together in the back to show how it would look if it fit properly.

VERDICT: If it were available in my size, I’d definitely keep it. Unfortunately, the white is sold out, but I may order the green to try instead.

J.Crew Seamed Linen Dress wth Removable Belt

at J.Crew (M) // Sam Edelman Camille Kitten Heel Sandal (8)

PRODUCT DETAILS: ’90s inspiration, all season long. This swingy dress comes with seam details that are meant to be seen, plus gentle pleats at the hem. It also has a hidden button closure down the front and a removable tie at the waist for a cinched or relaxed fit.

  • Material: 100% linen
  • Care: Machine wash

MY THOUGHTS: I absolutely love this one! It’s such an elegant dress in the black linen. The seaming and pleated hem give it beautiful movement, and I love that it’s more fitted through the hips before flaring out. It feels modern and understated, but still special.

I really wanted to wear it to my birthday dinner earlier this week, but unfortunately the small was too small and the medium was too big.

left: J.Crew Seamed Linen Dress (M) // right: J.Crew Seamed Linen Dress (S) // PAIGE Kylen Ankle Strap Wedge Sandal (8.5)

VERDICT: Still deciding. I’m trying to decide if I love this dress enough to have the medium tailored. I don’t wear dresses all that often, so it may not be worth the trouble, but it’s such a gorgeous, timeless piece.

Frank & Eileen Lauren in British Royal Navy

c/o Frank & Eileen (M) // Tuckernuck Slide Sandals c/o (8)

PRODUCT DETAILS: Consider Lauren our coolest interpretation of a collegiate, preppy classic. Designed for a relaxed fit in a mini-length.

  • Measurements: 36.5″ length from shoulder to hem
  • Material: Vintage Jersey, 100% Cotton
  • Care: Machine wash cold, tumble dry low

MY THOUGHTS: This is one of Frank & Eileen’s signature styles, and I can see why it’s been so popular. The silhouette is incredibly flattering, and the vintage jersey fabric is soft yet substantial. The sporty polo collar and raw edges keep it casual but with a polished, preppy feel. As with all of their pieces, the quality and fit are impeccable.

Fit note: I’m wearing the medium, and it’s just right on me, so if you’re between sizes, I’d recommend sizing up.

I also tried layering it with the Montecito cardigan. It’s not a combination I’d normally gravitate toward, but I think it works.

VERDICT: Keeping! It’s one of those easy dresses that looks put together without much effort.

Talbots Jersey V-Neck Dress in Butterfly Medallion

c/o Talbots (S) – 50% off! // Loeffler Randall Jovie Brown Jelly Flip Flop c/o (8) // Bryan Anthony’s Mom Coin Necklace & Our Light Necklace – 40% off

PRODUCT DETAILS: Our oh-so versatile V-neck dress in vibrant medallion print. Crafted from a jersey knit fabric with flowy flounce hem. Drapes beautifully. It’s the perfect addition to your casual wardrobe.

  • Measurements: 37″ Long
  • Material: 57% Cotton, 38% Modal, 5% Spandex
  • Care: Machine wash cold, turn inside out, tumble dry low

MY THOUGHTS: I am actually shocked that I like this dress, but I do! I don’t think I realized it had that big ruffle at the hem when I picked it out, but it’s kind of fun and somehow doesn’t feel too frilly on me.

The brown-and-ivory medallion print gives it a slightly boho feel, which I like, and the V-neck and cap sleeves are very flattering. It also has a bit of shape through the waist, which keeps it from feeling overwhelming. Plus, the cotton-modal jersey is buttery soft, and it’s 50% off this weekend!

Fit note: I’m wearing the small, and it’s plenty roomy, so I’d recommend sizing down if you’re between sizes.

VERDICT: I’m holding onto this one!

Talbots Jersey V-Neck Maxi Dress in Abstract Floral

c/o Talbots (S) – 50% off! // Sam Edelman Camille Kitten Heel Sandal (8) // Bryan Anthony’s Mom Coin Necklace & Our Light Necklace – 40% off

PRODUCT DETAILS: Elevate your wardrobe with the pretty abstract floral print on this summery maxi dress. Crafted from the jersey knit fabric you love with a fabulous drape. This style can’t miss on your next sunny day outing.

  • Measurements: 51″ Long
  • Material: 58% Cotton, 38% Modal, 4% Spandex
  • Care: Machine wash cold, turn inside out, tumble dry low

MY THOUGHTS: I also love this one. The sleeker silhouette is a little more my style, and I think it’s incredibly flattering. The bold black-and-white abstract print makes a statement, and the cotton-modal jersey is super soft and comfortable.

Fit note: I’m wearing the small, and it’s a bit snug through the chest and waistband, but not a deal breaker. That said, you may want to up if you’re between sizes.

VERDICT: Keeping, it will be perfect for church this summer.

MERSEA Le Midi Shirt Dress in Coastal Blue Stripe

c/o MERSEA (M) // Sam Edelman Camille Kitten Heel Sandal (8) // Bryan Anthony’s Mom Coin Necklace & Our Light Necklace – 40% off

PRODUCT DETAILS: Inspired by long lunches and slow afternoons in the South of France—the Le Midi Shirt Dress. With a lightly textured seersucker finish, this button-front midi-to-maxi style features a tailored bodice, flared skirt, and classic shirt collar. Finished with a removable self-tie belt to define the waist or wear loose, it’s an easy, elegant dress designed for movement, travel and everyday life.

  • Measurements: Chest 19″, Length 50″ (size Small)
  • Material: 50% Polyester, 42% Cotton, 8% Rayon
  • Care: Machine wash cold, tumble dry low

MY THOUGHTS: This dress is absolutely gorgeous! MERSEA is a new-to-me brand (pronounced like the French merci) that specializes in elevated travel clothing, and after trying this dress, I can definitely see the appeal.

The fabric and tailoring are exceptional. It’s fully lined, and the textured seersucker has enough structure to hold its shape while still draping beautifully. The quality really stands out.

Classic shirt dresses aren’t always my most flattering style, but this one is really lovely.

Fit note: I’m wearing the medium, and it fits me perfectly.

VERDICT: I don’t think I’d reach for this one often enough to justify keeping it, but if this silhouette works well for your body and personal style, I think it’s an absolutely stunning dress.

As an aside, Caroline has the Cassis Maxi Dress, and it’s beautiful on her. If you’re interested in trying this brand, that’s another style I’d definitely recommend considering.

LOFT Twist Mini Dress in Black

c/o LOFT (petite M) // Madewell Iggy (M)

PRODUCT DETAILS: In a soft cotton blend knit, this wrap-inspired mini is styled with a twist – for an extra flattering finish. Square neck. Sleeveless. Square back. Lined body, unlined skirt.

  • Measurements: 28 1/2″ from center back top edge to hem
  • Material: 57% Cotton 38% Modal 5% Spandex
  • Care: Machine Washable

MY THOUGHTS: This dress is really fun and flattering. The twist detail creates a nice shape, but the square neckline isn’t my favorite. I find it makes my chest and shoulders look broader, so I generally prefer a V-neck or scoop neck on myself.

For some reason, I was sent the petite, and it’s definitely too snug on me. (As a general rule, I usually size up when buying petite styles.)

VERDICT: I would probably keep this if it fit properly, but I’m not sure I love the neckline enough to order it in the regular size. That said, it’s only $30 right now!

LOFT Leafed Twist Double V Midi Dress

c/o LOFT (M) // Madewell Iggy (M)

PRODUCT DETAILS: Topped with a twist V-neck, sleek V-back and handkerchief hem, this fluid woven twill midi dress makes bohemian pretty a breeze. Sleeveless. Back zip.

  • Measurements: 41″ from center back neck to hem
  • Material: 100% Polyester
  • Care: Machine washable

MY THOUGHTS: This dress is really flattering too, but in a completely different way. I’m not crazy about the shoulder ties, but the fabric is beautiful, and the cut is very flattering. I actually think I might need the petite in this one, though. It was quite low-cut on me, so I tightened the shoulder ties to make it a little more wearable.

VERDICT: I don’t think I’d reach for this one often enough to justify keeping it, but I do think it’s a nice option.

A Few Pieces from Chico’s

Chico’s sent me a few pieces to try, and I was pleasantly surprised by what I tried.

Chico’s Travelers Knit Wide-Leg Pants in Black

c/o Chico’s (size 1) // Chico’s Cap-Sleeve Tank c/o (1) // Stretch Set of Five Glam Beaded Bracelets

PRODUCT DETAILS: Cut from Travelers knit—designed to unite comfort and elevated fashion—soft to the touch, stretch-knit fabrication. The Travelers Knit Wide-Leg Pants are designed with an elongating wide-leg that’s flattering and forgiving for all body types. They’re clean-lined, never wrinkle—and look flawless wherever you wear them.

  • Measurements: 29″ Inseam
  • Material: 93% Polyester, 7% Spandex
  • Care: Machine wash

MY THOUGHTS: These travel pants are flowy and comfortable, and I think they’re rather flattering too.

The Travelers knit fabric is smoother than the crepe fabric on the Aritzia Lodge Pants, and I actually like the flat waistband without the drawstring. It gives them a cleaner, more versatile look that’s easy to dress up or down.

VERDICT: I’m going to hold onto these for now. They might be nice to have for my travel this fall.

Chico’s Zenergy® UPF Cap-Sleeve Tank in ALABASTER

c/o Chico’s // Chico’s Travelers Knit Wide-Leg Pants c/o (1) // Stretch Set of Five Glam Beaded Bracelets

PRODUCT DETAILS: Made with our customer-favorite, moisture-wicking Neema fabric, this collared, cap-sleeve tank is designed with a chic metal-rimmed enamel button-front and intricate seam detailing, made with slimming in mind. The perfect elevated tank to wear from the court to brunch and beyond.

  • Measurements: 25.5″ Long
  • Material: 88% Polyester, 12% Spandex
  • Care: Machine wash

MY THOUGHTS: This top is interesting. I’m not crazy about the fabric, but I really like the collar and the way the cap sleeves are designed. It’s a flattering style, although it’s a little longer than I typically prefer. I think it’s a nice option, especially if you’re looking for an elevated top for work or travel.

As an aside, I love this stretch bracelet set in shades of black and gold. It’s such a fun addition to my jewelry collection, and I know I’ll wear it often.

VERDICT: Passing on the top, but definitely keeping the bracelets!

  1. Wow – such inspiration! You’ve given me so many outfits to think about – I can’t wait to order a few pieces!

  2. That black linen JCrew dress looks so good on you! If you already have something similar for dressier occasions, I’d understand passing on it, but I think it really might be worth the alterations to have it for years.

    1. If I didn’t do what I do, I would definitely have it altered, but I’m always cycling things through my closet, and I don’t see myself keeping it for as long as a typical person. But who knows… if it goes on a really good sale, or if I have a place I really want to wear it, I may rethink that, lol!

  3. I love these posts, mostly because it’s a fun guessing game to look at the photos and predict whether you decided to keep the piece or not. I’m getting pretty good at it and right most of the time!

Okay I LOVE the utility vest from Evereve. What are your thoughts about its potential for layering come fall? Do you think it would look good over other tops?

  4. If you come across a dupe of the F & E white cardigan at like 20% or less of the price that would be an awesome find!!

  5. Wow! That was a LOT of try-ons!
I was intrigued by your comparison of Chico’s Travelers pants & Aritzia’s Lodge crepette……..
I see you are keeping both…………. If I only need one, which would you suggest? The first thing i do w a drawstring waist is throw the ties inside, but I am also wondering how the legs feel width-wise & drape. I can’t find measurements for the width of the legs for either of them online.
    Thanks!

    1. The Chico’s pair is softer and more comfortable, and since it was gifted, I may as well keep them for now and see if they come in handy. If I only needed one, I would stick with Aritzia, I like the crepe and it’s more modern-looking to me.

  6. Love the Boden dress, but not one of the colors offered would do me any justice. Phooey. The price on the Montecito, YIKE$!!! Absolutely love the Talbots abstract floral dress on you. That’s a 10/10. Also the F&E Lauren dress in navy. Another 10/10. The Boden dress is also very lovely on you, I vote try another color. Also that Joelle utility pant is awesome on you. And just a LOL – I’m glad you’re passing on the red/white stripe top. Red and white horizontal striped tops just say “Where’s Waldo?” to me.

  7. Happy belated Birthday! You spread so many great options for us. HAPPY 250th BIRTHDAY ANERICA!

  8. So many cute finds today’s try-on post. My favorites are the Annessa Wide-Leg (I have a pair from last year so not sure I need another) and the Paige jeans and the tops from EverEve. The F& E Lauren dress has been in my closet for three summers, but I tend to wear it in the fall because it reads blacker than navy and I don’t like wearing all black in our brutal Texas summers. Finally, please, please, please try to find styling options for Artizia Lodge Crepette pant. I just bought a navy pair but not sure about them because of the loose fit and the drawstring. I have never loved pants/trousers on me and I’m at a loss at what tops to pair with them.

Happy belated birthday and congrats on your weight loss!

    1. Hi Melissa, I tried the lodge pants and they just didn’t work for me-too loose and flowy? I returned them, maybe if tried them on in store? Anyway, I found a pair simiiar, well somewhat at Dillards and they fit me well-Westbound linen blend in the wheat, oatmeal color and raw hem. Good price and I have them alot.

  9. Question: Right now you’re styling the jeans with sandals but what sneakers and flats will you wear with the Paige Lenah and Anessa or the Mother Stashed Roller for the fall?
***PS – I like how the Lodge pant fits you! I wish the “talls” hadn’t been sold out because the regular length looked dorky on me…just too short & awkward….not the right look.

      1. My Paige Anessa jeans in tonal ecru arrived today, and these are the longest jeans I’ve had in a while. This post and Heather’s question above are just what I was looking for! Thank you both!

  10. Great post! Interesting items from Chico’s. I’m in my 70’s and SOMETIMES like their clothes. The Travelers wide leg pants look great on you, and since you are keeping them, hopefully you will post how to style them. Thank you!

  11. There’s just something about the lodge pant I’m still trying to figure out. I need the short for length in small but feel like they aren’t as flowy as the influencers are showing ..so I tried the medium and they all but feel down ! Maybe the small regular length gives more flow with a different inseam I’m not sure but for the price I want to love them!
For a style tip I tried them on with the denim shirt sold at Aritzia and it’s a great look with a low profile sneaker… I’d tend to wear them more in fall months as I find the crepe a little heavy for this time of year!
Loved your try on haul as always!

  12. Good options but I just can’t wear the longer fuller dresses. I’m too short and not my style, but they look good on many. The Loft, all black one looks like a swimsuit with sarong skirt over it.
Love the denim but I think I’m good for any wider leg jeans. I think I need to focus on getting slimmer fit for casual.
Just can’t believe how expensive that white Cartigan is. I think they are way over priced. I’d be afraid to ruin anything I bought from them. Good you get them given to you.

  13. I LOVE the butterfly medallion dress from Talbots on you and also the white dress from Boden. You have a lot of good choices to choose from in this try on haul. I love seeing you in different styles. I have been eyeing those linen pants and just might order them now that I see how great they look on you.

  14. PS Thanks for styling the Grey short sleeve Evereve sweatshirt. I’ve been wanting to order it. So cute.

  15. I think the wider leg shorts look good on you. The wide leg trouser jeans are very flattering on you. The first brown pants look big on you. I like the second brown pants better.

  16. This try-on haul was great, lots of variety. I just LOVE both Talbots dresses. very different but both flattering. I will be getting a new Aritzia store at my local mall next year, so I will be able to browse and try on more. Happy 4th celebration, enjoy your pool and backyard. I have to laugh when you say you love this extremely hot and humid weather, I might as well if I had a pool in my backyard! HAHA! I haven’t gone outside in 2 days, 103 degrees doesn’t work for me!

    1. Yeah, I realized as soon as I posted that, that’s how it sounded. But I love this weather regardless. I love stepping outside into the heat, and it doesn’t really bother me too much to be out in it for a while. Don’t get me wrong, I am grateful to come inside to the a/c and cool off at a certain point, and the pool is a nice perk, but I love hot weather either way. 🙂

I’ll be curious if your Aritzia is as busy as mine. It’s hard to get near a dressing room unless I go in the middle of the week. The lines are insane on weekends.

  17. Fun try on! You look wonderful! You looked wonderful before but like you, I completely agree that we know when we are not feeling our best. An extra 10 pound can cause ankle and foot pain and injuries (cough cough), knee & hip pain….. Just to name a few. Energy levels sky dive. What I appreciate about your plan is the logic and sustainability. Making the bed is undoubtedly a lynchpin to start the day. Thanks for sharing that. Putting God first is always a must in all we do. That relationship gives us clarity on how to approach each day!

  18. Wow, this is another extraordinary try on!!! You are really looking so good with an elevated touch of happiness, passion, and style. I am trying ??!! to stop the summer shopping but . . . I love the grey sweatshirt and think I need it in the cute orange and pink stripe version too. Have you ever looked at the Splendid lite washed drawstring shorts? Maybe jorts. I just got them and really like the longer length, soft fabric, and style. THANKS JoLynne. And your earlier blog this week regarding your health/wellness journey was heartfelt and very inspiring. I can so relate. ❤️

  19. I love these try ons! Perfect for outfit planning and helpful for filling in gaps in my wardrobe!

  20. LOVE the Talbot’s White and Brown dress! I am a big fan of Frank and Eileen and own many pieces. Everytime I look at their sweaters, I have to say no…so expensive…but I love them. Great try on! You look fantastic!
