Fall Hiking Gear Refresh

Fall is finally here in Pennsylvania, and it’s my favorite time of year to be outside enjoying nature. Now that Paul is on the mend, we’re hoping to do some hiking this fall. We have so many pretty state parks and nature preserves around us, it’s a shame not to take full advantage of them.

I decided it was time to beef up my hiking gear, and the best place I know to do that is at Backcountry. They have a vast assortment of lifestyle & active brands, making them my go-to resource for all of our outdoor adventures.

Case in point, this clever tech hoodie with a water-repellent finish and built-in neck gaiter.

The fixed hood, thumbholes, shoulder vents, and a zippered kangaroo pocket show such great attention to detail. I also like how the gaiter and pocket are in a contrasting color, as well as the Backcountry mascot on the side.

The fabric is lightweight and soft, making it a nice piece to wear alone on milder days, or to layer over a base layer tee on colder days. This hoodie is true to size; I’m wearing the small.

These prAna leggings in the nautical blue coordinate perfectly. The fabric is nice and thick, and they feel like they even have a bit of compression. I also appreciate the hidden waist pocket to stash my key.

And these Merrell trail running shoes are perfect for walking and hiking on uneven terrain. I’ve already worn them a couple times on walks around our neighborhood because they have such good support. Plus, they’re lightweight and cushiony and comfortable enough to wear all day.

I’ve always relied on Paul to carry the backpack on our hikes, but I decided it’s high time to get my own, so I picked out this backpack by The North Face. I chose it because it can be an everyday backpack, or I can use it on our hikes.

It has a laptop sleeve along with other internal pockets for organization and two external water bottle pockets, and the FlexVent suspension system helps support your back.

Oh, and I also grabbed these Smartwool ankle socks with light cushion. They are so soft and comfortable, omyword. I didn’t want to take them off.

Also, Backcountry is running a 20% off sale on socks at the moment, so this is a great time to pick up a few pairs. They also make nice gifts for men or women. My husband loves his Smartwool socks.

While I was shopping, I picked up this Volcom fleece pullover in the Rosewood. This one is a bit thicker and longer than the Backcountry hoodie, and I love the high cowl neck collar. It is so cozy. This will be great for those cold fall nights on the band field, or for a winter walk at Valley Forge Park. It’s also true to size (wearing the small).
