I’ve always had a thing for shoes. Even before I learned what clothing styles work best for my body type and how to artfully accessorize an outfit, I loved shoe shopping. I’ve always enjoyed trying new styles and pushing the limits a bit. I generally gravitate towards classic styles that have an interesting detail, and while I love a fabulously stylish pair of shoes, comfort is always going to trump all. There’s nothing worse than sore feet at the end of the day.
My husband has long been a fan of Johnston & Murphy footwear for their quality men’s shoe styles, but I had no idea they carried shoes for women until they invited me to partner with them on a fall fashion post. When I received their email, I quickly clicked over to see what their women’s shoe styles were like, and I was thrilled to find a wide variety of classic but stylish shoes and boots for women.
I was able to choose two pairs to style for this post, and it didn’t take me long to narrow my choices down to the Brynn Jodphur Bootie in Espresso Italian Waxed Calfskin and the Isabel Bootie in Black Kid Suede. I knew the Brynn Jodphur Bootie would be perfect for casual fall outfits involving skinny jeans and cozy scarves, and I could easily envision the Isabel Booties with my favorite shift dress and tights.
When the shoes arrived, they were every bit as luxurious in person as they appeared online. My mind immediately went to styling cute outfits, and I even created this flat lay for Instagram with the Jodphur Booties.
Swoon-worthy, right!?!?
The only question that remained was whether or not the comfort factor would equal their style quotient.
The first time I wore the Brynn Jodphur Booties, I styled them with skinny jeans and a cozy scarf.

Blanket scarves are a huge trend this season, and this plaid scarf in tones of brown, pumpkin, teal, yellow, and misty blue is my new bestie.
There’s always a lot of debate as to what to do with the hem of your skinny jeans with ankle boots. The shaft on these ankle boots is higher than most, and the front is a bit higher than the back, so when I tried cuffing my jeans, I didn’t love how it looked, although I suppose it works. I ended up wearing my skinniest skinny jeans and tucking them into the shaft of the boot. Because the jeans fit snugly around the ankle, they don’t bunch or ride up at all. It also helps that they are ankle-length so there’s not a lot of material to tuck in.
Finally, the mustard boyfriend sweater with the brown buttons worked perfectly with the fall hues in the scarf and the deep brown of the booties. I wore a chocolate brown tank underneath and carried a lighter brown clutch.
This outfit just screams fall, doesn’t it!?!
I styled the black suede Isabel Booties two ways. First I wore them with black skinny pants, a colorful blouse, and a black moto jacket. This is the perfect going-out outfit for fall! I like how you can see the detail on the shoes where they don’t quite meet the pants.
I also styled these chic booties with my favorite shift dress and black tights.
I love the overall effect of a long, lean leg-line. Whether I wear them with pants or a dress, these suede booties elevate an outfit and give it a chic but elegant vibe.
Johnston & Murphy shoes for women definitely live up to their reputation of quality and style. I couldn’t be more pleased with my selections, and I know they’ll be getting a LOT of airtime on the blog this fall and winter!
