Wow, what a difference a week makes! A week on The 21-Day Sugar Detox and I feel like I just got a whole new wardrobe. Everything that didn’t fit before fits now, and everything that was tight is comfortable.

Saturday was a crummy, rainy day, but I had plans to grab coffee with some ladies from church, and I’m so glad I did. It was nice to have a reason to get dressed and go out.

This was the first day that I really started to feel a difference in my clothes. These mint jeans have been off limits almost all summer, and I was bummed because I just bought them in April! I was super psyched to put them on and discover that they’re comfortable again. In just 4 days. I KNOW!!! I’m suddenly loving this detox, lol.

Excuse the clutter on the porch. That’s how we live.

I am SO excited about this LBD from CAbi. They sent me a few items to style from their fall collection, and this is the first piece I’ve worn. Believe it or not, I have NEVER had a LBD – I mean, I have had black dresses, but never a go-to LBD that I can truly wear all year round and dress it up or down, but this is IT! So easy to wear, super flattering, modest enough for church or daytime events but still appropriate for nighttime. I can’t wait to try it with other accessories and see how many different ways I can wear it.

I wore it on Sunday to church with this yellow necklace and bracelet and my silver pumps. I highly recommend these if you’re in the market for a sensible pump that is still cute.

On a casual day at home, I put on my Boston Red Sox tee with my favorite cigarette-leg jeans (I loathe that term, can we PLEASE come up with something else!?) that I cuffed to make them more summery. And there’s the boot. Good times! Oh, and that red splotch on my chest is where I splattered bacon grease and burned myself while cooking dinner. I photoshopped the grease stains out of the t-shirt, haha!

Finally, this was yesterday. Remember those white shorts I couldn’t wear a couple of months ago? I went out and bought bigger shorts in black and told you all that it’s okay to size up if you need to? I still agree with that advice. It’s always better to dress the body you have than the body you want to have. I also said I wasn’t giving up, just giving myself some grace.

Well, I didn’t give up. And after a week on the sugar free detox, my white shorts fit. Easily. I am SO SO SO excited! It was on the chilly side this morning so I put on this lightweight hooded striped sweater with my shorts. By midday I was roasting so I changed to a tank top. But I like the idea of a sweater with shorts. It’s a fun juxtaposition and a great way to transition your shorts from summer to fall.

  2. Hi! Congrats on your successful week with the detox! What an achievement. When you wrote about your eating habits prior to the detox I felt like I could have written those same words. (eating light all day-starting to snack while making dinner, spiraling down from there, etc.) I need to do something. The thing is….I’m one of those people who is always thinking about tomorrow. (worrying about tomorrow, I should say!) I keep thinking: What will I do after 21 days? Are you struggling with this, as well? How do you deal with that?

    1. Hey Jo. I was worried at first but now I know that I’m going to go from here into a paleo/primal eating style. Which is what I’ve wanted to do for some time but I never could stick to it.

The point of this is to break that addiction to sugar and retrain my body to use fat for fuel and not sugar. I’m already halfway there. I honestly don’t have any cravings right now.

I’ve done some reading on the primal website Marks Daily Apple, one I’ve read and admired for a long time. It sounds like I should be able to continue eating this way but add in some fruits and starchy veggies and have an occasional “treat” without sabotaging all my efforts.

I am hoping that it won’t seem hard or depriving because I will have overcome the cravings and addiction to sugar and carbs.

Make sense? I think it’s fine to start this without knowing exactly where you will end up.

  3. I really need to try this 21 day detox. Love the mint jeans and hunter boots and your Cabi wrap dress looks so comfortable!

  4. Hurray for you that you feel so much better (aside from your feet)! Going to look into to this detox once the kiddos are back in school next week… though I am not nearly as disciplined as I will need to be. I need to do something, though.

How about “pencil-leg” instead of cigarette-leg jeans… I think I have school supplies on my mind… lol!

Finally… I’ve been following an online running coach (my husband and daughter run… so far I’m just reading, not running… ha!) called Strength Running at strengthrunning.com and have found lots of good discussion about injury recovery and prevention, including foot problems. I wanted to pass it along in case it might be helpful in your recovery… 🙂

Thanks for your posts… I always look forward to Wednesdays’ inspiration!

  5. Only you could look cute with a boot and a grease burn! Your makeup always is very pretty. You look fresh and glowing.

  6. I love all of your outfits. Your green and grey bags are both gorgeous and super classy. I like how they are extra large in size. Your hunter boots outfit looks effortless but really stylish. Your black dress fits you like a dream. You look great. I hope your ankle heels soon.

  7. Great outfits… I recently bought that same Marc by MJ bag and love it! So sorry to hear about your stress fracture. Take care!

  8. I love the mint green pants outfit best. I actually clicked through to the rain boots (first time i have ever clicked through on a fashion blog) and ordered them off nordstrom- love them have been looking for something like that all last year. reasonable price too!
As far as cigarette leg pants- think of it this way” Audrey Hepburn with white gloves holding a cigarette on one of those 10″ cigarette holders. Super throwback to a more elegant time. I think thats what the name references. When women only wore blue jeans to clean the house, it was that straight leg look. Thats how I think of them, classy and elegant and retro. Not like marlboro Man or ashtray or anything associated like that.
