Fashion Over 40 | What I Wore 08.21.13

Today I’m heading up to NYC for a photo shoot with Target. I can’t wait to tell you all about it but right now it’s top secret. Meanwhile, my daily mom style has been rather lacking this week. Since I was traveling, I didn’t get photos every day, but here’s what I have.

We had a few cool days last week and I wore this Old Navy Embroidered Peasant Top with a very old pair of jeans and my new Orthaheel Julie Slingback Sandals. (I was tired of wearing the silver ones every day so I ordered these brown ones to switch off!)

Guess who got her hair cut and colored!? Yahoo!!! There’s nothing like a fresh cut and color to put a spring in my step! This is the outfit I wore the day we drove to Virginia. This coral top is an old favorite (another Old Navy purchase) and I wore it with my comfy cut-offs and the same Julie sandals. I wore a coordinating bracelet (from Kohl’s) and this casual silver necklace from Stella & Dot (no longer avail).

Wanna see a close-up of my sandals? I took this picture while I was trying to amuse myself on the long car ride. It came out pretty cool, if I do say so myself!

I wore my Gap Essential Short Sleeve U-Neck Tee with a pair of coral printed twill shorts from Old Navy to hang out at my mom’s house on Saturday. I didn’t get a good photo of the outfit, but I have this photo of me holding my new baby nephew. Now everyone say awwwwwww . . .

Finally, I wore this royal blue lace top (similar) with my DL1961 Angel Ankle Skinnies to church on Sunday. You can’t see them very well, but I accessorized with a pair of dangly Kendra Scott earrings in shades of blue and a blue enamel bangle. I used the opportunity to wear my white Tory sandals that were a birthday gift from my mom.

I like the contrast of the jade green bag against the royal blue top. I’m going to miss that bag when I pack it away for winter . . . sad panda.

That’s all I’ve got this week!

If you’re wondering what on EARTH I’m doing posting my daily outfits, I started joining up with Lindsey at The Pleated Poppy ages ago, sharing my outfits by way of keeping us stay-at-home/work-at-home mamas accountable for getting dressed every day. If you’ve ever been in a situation where you’re at home most of the time, you might know how easy it is to get into a rut of living in yoga pants or even pajamas.

Over the past year, I’ve begun to use this little exercise as a way of challenging myself to try new styles and trends and be more creative in my outfits. And I do hope that it is some inspiration to other at-home-mamas out there who are wondering how to wear current trends in a way that is age appropriate and fits your personal style.

  1. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again – You look FANTASTIC!

How comfortable are those sandals? I just might spring for a pair if you think they’re worth the price tag.

Finally, yay for cut-offs in the summer! What brand are they?

    1. The cut-offs are Citizens. I absolutely love them, but they were quite a splurge. Kind of crazy for casual shorts, even I will admit. But you know how I love my designer denim. 🙂

The sandals are SUPER comfy. They are pretty much all I can wear right now, as my plantar fasciitis is getting worse. 🙁

  2. Hi!
I found your blog via Pinterest yesterday. I love it! I’m a 37-year old mother of two terrific kiddos – 2 and 5. I’m trying to be fashionable and have been looking for inspiration, but it gets depressing when you do searches and only see the Olsen twins and Miranda Kerr, lovely of course, but too young (and size 0) for me. I’m too young for Chico’s etc. and feel stuck…anyway, you’re awesome, thank you!
