Hello and welcome back to 25 Days of Summer Fashion! Today is Day 12 and I’m teaming up with Nordstrom to share a fun and flirty summer look featuring this red sleeveless sweater dress.
Nordstrom has long been my go-to retailer for dresses. They have such a great variety of styles and price points, and they carry some of my favorite dress designers.
It was the color of this sleeveless sweater dress that first caught my eye, and then I noticed the flouncy ruffled hem and the bands of ribbing that create a subtle striped texture and I knew I had to try it. FYI, this dress is currently 40% off so I expect it to sell quickly.
How fun is this flouncy hem???
For size reference, I’m wearing the small. Because I tend to run between a small and medium, I love Nordstrom’s free shipping and free return policy. I ordered both the medium and the small and returned the one that didn’t fit.
I often get asked about shapewear. With this dress, I’m wearing my go-to shaping shorts to keep everything looking smooth and toned.
I topped off the look with a denim jacket, and I wore neutral block heel sandals to lengthen the line of the leg and keep the dress the center of attention. Not only is Nordstrom my favorite store for dresses, it’s also my go-to shoe store. The have a lot of similar options for this popular sandal style. This pair is similar for less, and if you prefer a lower heel height, take a look at this pair.
The leopard clutch provides the perfect point of interest and the texture and pattern keep the look modern and fun.
I added a gold lariat necklace to break up the front of the dress and to act as another point of interest. When putting an outfit together, I try to get 4 points of interest to keep it interesting and cohesive. In this case I have the denim jacket, the necklace, the printed clutch, and the layered bangles.
I love this overall look. It’s perfect for summer events, dinners out, and lunch dates with friends.

You look so pretty! I love the look with the denim jacket. Do you size up in the brand you mentioned for your boy shorts?
I have the medium, which is what I always wear in underwear and shapewear.
Jo-Lynne, I think this is my favourite dress you have ever worn. You look amazing! Not only do I enjoy seeing the outfits you create, I appreciate so much how you teach your readers about outfit construction. Four points of interest is a new concept for me. Is the number four a key for creating outfits or can you create any number of points of interest to take an outfit to the next level? Thanks for all that you do!
Thanks, Bev! I got the “rule of 4” from Kelly’s Adore Your Wardrobe course. It is a free lesson she shares, if you’re interested – http://bit.ly/AYW2017. I’m not really sure where she came up with the number 4, but I do think it’s a good rule of thumb. She’ll tell you to keep adding on if you want, but 4 is the minimum to make an outfit look complete and put-together. I am a “less is more” kinda gal so sometimes I am happy with 3 points. 🙂
I like how you made it more casual with the denim jacket, and love that leopard clutch, I have that same one and want to use it all the time. Perfect casual date night outfit!
Thanks, Sarah!
Love the red with the denim!
I love this dress and have recreated similar looks! For events that the jean jacket would be too casual, would a short(er) black cardigan work? Any other suggestions/colors? I really don’t like to show my upper arms in a sleeveless dress.
Great outfit JoLynne, you look fabulous and red is definitely your color!! I have a question….do you have a special formula for making those awesome curls stay put? My hair is similar style and length to yours (except I have bangs) and it’s very fine. Every time I curl it like yours I start on one side and by the time I get around my head I have to start over. Hair spray just doesn’t seem enough! Thanks!
You look so good in red!! I love the simplicity of this look the denim jacket is the perfect touch.
Thank you! I’ve always loved red and denim together. 🙂
You look absolutely amazing. I love that red color on you and that dress is to die for! What a great outfit. I love how you accessorized and the denim jacket makes it your own! Perfect. – Amy

The style of the dress is fabulous and you look fabulous in it as well! Welcome to summer break!
Stunning! Yet again! Everything about your outfit is eye catching! Your hair is amazing color! ❤❤. Never heard of the 4 points of interest, but now it’s got my attention.
So pretty love the ruffle at the bottom. I wear the shape wear shorts too, not only for the shaper but I just feel more comfortable with shorts under dresses, so they do double duty.
