With the advent of Back-to-School, one of the things I’m trying to work on is getting a wholesome breakfast into my kids. They got so used to our lazy summer schedule of sleeping in and eating breakfast whenever they felt the need (often not until at least 10AM) that now that they have to be up and out of the house at the crack of dawn, they are having a hard time getting motivated to eat.
Of course, we all know that a healthy breakfast is brain food. It is crucial that kids get a good start to their day if they’re going to be able to perform up to their full potential when they get to school. I have a really hard time letting go if a child doesn’t want to eat so I’m trying to have a wide variety of choices in the house so there is something that appeals to everyone.
Our kids don’t eat strictly gluten free, but because I do, there’s a bit of a trickle down effect going on around here. My daughters both prefer my Udi’s gluten free bread to the organic whole wheat that I often buy (I don’t get around to making homemade as much as I used to) and my son will fight me for the last of my Udi’s muffins — blueberry or chocolate, makes no difference to him. He’s also a big fan of my chocolate smoothies.
I’m still in need of more ideas, though. No one really likes eggs, and they are tired of the french toast/waffle/pancake deal — and frankly, so am I. I’m in need of quick and easy yet nutritious breakfast ideas. What about you???
