Instagram Roundup // What I Wore This Week 07.23.16

Happy Saturday, everyone! I hope you all got what you wanted from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale because it seems like the popular items went super fast. I overslept — woke up at 6:30 yesterday and was shocked to see what was already gone.

If you didn’t get something you wanted, keep checking back. (The prices go back to regular price on August 8.) I have heard that towards the end of the sale, some sizes get restocked due to the large volume of returns they tend to get. A lot of people order 2 sizes to make sure to get the right fit and that sort of thing, so it is likely that we will see some fluctuation in inventory over the next week. I am keeping my eye on that Cargo Anorak! Kicking myself for not grabbing it when it was in stock.

See all of my Nordstrom Anniversary Sale coverage here.

We’ve had a nice first week in Maine. For the most part, the weather has been amazing — low humidity, chilly mornings, and warm afternoons. Here is a sunset picture I took one evening.

sunset on the lake

Yesterday we went into Bar Harbor for a little boating excursion (I snapchatted the whole thing, if you’re interested) and then we had lunch where I got gluten-free lobster mac and cheese. I WAS SO HAPPY.

Being gluten-free, there are some things you pretty much never get to eat unless you make it yourself, and lobster mac and cheese is one of them. My daughter loves it and orders it whenever it is on the menu, and I always watch her eating it and try not to drool in my salad. But yesterday, I got to indulge, and it was AH-mazing. If you’re ever in Bar Harbor, eat at the Side Street Cafe. Delicious and tons of GF options.

I’ll do an Instagram Roundup today, and I will try to do a Coffee Talk tomorrow and catch y’all up on everything. In that, I will include some of the pictures my husband has been taking because his are way better than my iPhone snaps.

Honestly, we haven’t done much. Yesterday is the only day we left camp (everyone up here refers to their lake cottages as “camp” even though most are 4-season homes) to do anything touristy. The other days I left were just to get groceries or visit my Grampa, who is an assisted living facility in town. He used to come see us here at the lake (it was originally his place) and I miss his visits.

Next week we hope to take a few more excursions, but it’s so nice here by the water, it’s hard to get everyone motivated to leave and go somewhere, although we’re always happy we did once we get to our destination. There’s so much to do in this area, but we have vacationed here almost every summer for my entire life, so in a way, I feel like I’ve seen it all. NOT that I ever tire of the visiting the Maine coast. It is truly one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been.

Anyway, with that lengthy prelude, here are the highlights from my Instagram over the past two weeks!

Instagram Roundup

My black jumpsuit has been restocked!!! As of right now, they have it in XS, S, and M. I am wearing a M. I’m 5’5″ and 140# for size reference. I know it is spendy, but if you have an occasion for it, it really is a gorgeous piece. Very comfortable and flattering. See my entire post with more pictures and all of the outfit details HERE.

This next outfit is what I wore to shop the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale the first night I went to the store. I actually wore it running around all day that day and didn’t get home to change before I went shopping. These shoes are very comfortable, but they are not ideal for taking off and on when trying on a ton of clothes. All of those buckles have to be fastened individually, which I don’t mind for ordinary wear, but to taking them on and off several times in a day is a bit of a pain.

That said, I really love this outfit. It is so simple, but the cut and quality of the top is outstanding, the shoes are super fun (size down; I’m wearing a 7.5) and these jeans are pretty much the perfect distressed white jeans. I thought the blush colored bag with silver hardware was the perfect finishing touch.

Joie Cap Sleeve Linen Tee (similar color for less) // R Minkoff Georgina Sandals in Sand Leather (20% off) // J Brand Low Rise Crop Jeans (less expensive non-distressed option) // Marc Jacobs Natasha Q Crossbody in Pearl Blush (back in stock)

And this is what I wore the next day when I went back to shop the Anniversary Sale with a friend. It was much better for trying on clothes! Sorry this picture is small. I think I deleted the original off my iPhone so I had to screenshot my Instagram.

Vince Camuto Cold Shoulder Top // Black Orchid Skinnies via Stitch Fix // Tory Burch Miller Sandals in Sand Patent // Tory Burch Thea Hobo (similar for less and a faux leather budget-friendly option) // Dalton Pendant

And as if I didn’t do enough shopping in the store, I got home later that day and placed an online order for pickup. We stopped on the way to Maine to get these last few items that we needed for a photo shoot we’re doing up here. My husband is a good man. Not only did he agree to stop on the way out of town, he got out and took this picture. Ha!

Happy Hour Tee c/o Easy Livin’ Tees // Joe’s Jeans Rolled Hem Denim Shorts in Petra // Sam Edelman Gigi Sandals (some are marked down to $49, but very limited colors and sizes)

This is one of the outfits I put together from the #NSale. I absolutely love this Lush Blouse. I bought it in 3 colors. It is so versatile. You can start wearing it now with shorts or cropped jeans and sandals, and then it will be great with jeans and boots this winter. It’s only $27, and it is still in stock in most colors and sizes! I wear a medium.

This is an outfit I wore when we were visiting family in Massachusetts. I ordered this Splendid cold shoulder top just before we left on vacation. It’s a little big on me. I’m thinking I could have sized down to a Small.

Splendid Whisper Layer Tee // similar white jean shorts $24 // R Minkoff Georgina Sandals in Sand Leather (20% off) // Tory Burch Convertible Leather Crossbody (on the #NSale for $283)

Another #NSale outfit, this tunic is so so so soft. And these leggings are super thick, more like pants. HIGHLY recommend picking up a pair while they’re on sale.

Yet another Anniversary Sale outfit. Details are in THIS POST.

My husband was having fun playing with his camera one evening while I was relaxing on the Adirondack chairs on our front lawn here at camp.

Life Is Good Happy Hour Cap // favorite white tee (size down; this is on the #NSale for $16!!!) // Emma skinnies

These outfit details are in THIS POST. I am so excited that my leopard foldover clutch has been restocked after months of being discontinued!!! It is only $39 and it such a great bag for popping an outfit. It goes with so much. Also, this LOFT tassel stone necklace is 30% off (40% off with a LOVELOFT Card) bringing it down to $24 with code VACAY.

And I posted this because this popular off the shoulder top I styled earlier this summer went on sale. It is still available in Small and Large. (I wore a Medium, but I might have been able to get away with a Small — it’s hard to say since I didn’t try it.)

Nordstrom isn’t the only retailer running great sales right now. If you aren’t done shopping for summer, LOFT has a ton of great markdowns at the moment. All regular price styles are 30% off (or 40% with a LOVELOFT Card) and some of the sale stuff is deeply discounted. My navy Sleeveless Linen V-Neck Tee is $10 and my teal Ladder Lace Tee is $12!!!

And it’s back to fallish outfits with this sleeveless cowl slub top and aubergine skinny jeans from the #NSale. I love and adore both of these pieces. The grey Cowl Neck Top is a great transition piece. You can layer it under a cardigan or jacket this fall. And if you buy any colored jeans this year, get a burgundy pair. These Paige Verdugo skinnies are super comfy and flattering, and Caslon has a pair on the Sale for $48.

And finally, these are one of my favorite pairs of booties from the #NSale. It’s the BP. Tandem Bootie, they are on sale for $79, and currently in stock in all sizes! You may want to size up a half size. I am wearing my usual 8 1/2 and they are a little on the small side. They’re okay, but I won’t be able to wear a thick sock with them.

SIDENOTE: I wish I hadn’t rolled my jeans up so high. I prefer them touching the top of the boot when rolled. It’s been hard styling outfits up here without a full length mirror to check myself.

And that, my friends is a wrap! Whew!!! If you have any questions about sizing or anything else, leave it in the comments, and I will respond as soon as I can. Being on vacation, I’m in and out a lot, but I will get back to you within 24 hours!

I hope you all have a great weekend!

  1. I’ve been watching your snaps, and I’m so envying your picturesque lake stay! Looks so peaceful and serene there. I’ve never been up the east coast, but I’ve always wanted to!
I’m seriously astonished at how quickly things flew yesterday during the nsale. I pretty much snagged all my must haves during early access, although there are a couple things I wish I got in different colors that are sold out. I’m glad the Lush top is still in stock because I’m still on the fence about mine. I do know if I keep it, I definitely want a different color. I set a budget so I guess it will come down to that when the rest of my orders arrive so I can compare it all. I ordered extra everything, lol.
Whoa, that was a long comment! Sorry! Enjoy the rest of your vacay! 😉

  2. I was wanting to order a pair of those Vince camuto leggings but the inseam is 29 inches. I’m afraid they may be too long and they don’t have them in petite. I believe you’re around 5’6″ or 5’7″ if I recall correctly. I’m only 5’1″. I didn’t want the ones that has the seam.

    Hope you enjoy your vacation.

    1. I am 5’5″ but I agree, at 5’1″ they would be very long. Last year White House Black Market had similar leggings and they do come in Petites. Hopefully they’ll bring them back.

  3. Hey! I love the BP. booties and am considering getting them…are they comfy? Several reviews on the site say they are uncomfortable. The Vince Camuto ones are sold out.

  4. Hi Jo-Lynne,

Thanks for sharing all the great pics of your vacation – I’ve never been to Maine, but your pictures are making me want to visit someday (it’s a bit of a haul from CA 😉 It looks very New England and very relaxing – and like you are all really enjoying it.

Also, for the Vince Camuto leggings you bought, what size did you go with? The site says “Generous fit”. And, to that end, what do you do when the leggings are too long? I’m 5’5″ and even though most are “29” inseam”, they always seem to long…

And I have 1 more for you – regarding ankle booties – do you wear any kind of sock? I -hate- just wearing any closed shoe or boot w/o socks of some sort, but I also don’t like your typical ankle sock, which is too warm for a boot (at least for me).

Sorry this is so long…lots of questions 🙂

    1. No worries – it’s not too long! 🙂 My VC leggings are a Medium, and they’re plenty big, but it didn’t occur to me to size down. They were very comfortable in the Medium, and they might shrink some, but I don’t know because I’ve never bought that brand legging before. I’m also 5’5″ and I never mind if my leggings bunch a little at the ankle. I guess the worst part is about being too long is, they bunch around the knees. You’re making me want to try the Small, lol!

I sometimes wear thin bamboo socks from The Walking Company with my booties when it’s cold in the winter, but they do show above the boot. Usually I just go barefoot. I tried the footie kind of socks, and they tend to slide off and that bugs me.

These are the ones I love: https://bit.ly/2alrbnV

  5. Beautiful vaca photos!! Enjoy! It’s 100 here in Texas! I got several Nordstrom sale items. Thanks! For the heads up. I thought we were the same height but I’m 5’7″ – love to see the clothes on you before I buy. It helps So much!!! Xoxoxo
