Must-Have Sweater Dress for Fall (Only $39!)

Well, hello there. Happy Wednesday! I know emotions are running high this morning, so I’m here to provide your daily dose of frivolous banter and fashion commentary. After all, I think the one thing we can all agree on this morning is that life is too short to be frumpy. And do I have a treat for you!

I try to reserve the phrase “must-have” for the times when I truly mean it, and this is one of those times. I am dubbing this LOFT Basketweave Sweater Dress the “must-have sweater dress for fall” because it is super cute and so versatile, and it comes in three rich colors for fall/winter. Plus it’s currently marked down to $39.50, and at the time of this posting, it is available in all sizes.

I wore this outfit to church a few weeks ago and got several compliments. I love how this dress skims the body without clinging, and the ribbed split hem adds interest.

I paired this dress with my taupe booties and carried a grey handbag. This bag is a discontinued color, and the shoes are almost sold out, but this dress would work with any neutral shoe and bag combo — khaki, grey, black, or even a contrasting color like burgundy.

I chose these khaki colored booties because they are close to my skin tone so they help extend the line of the leg. A darker bootie would cut off the legs, making them appear shorter, although it is a trendy thing to do. That works best on women with long legs, and maybe a slightly shorter skirt than this one.

So many sweater dresses have turtlenecks and cowl necks, so I really liked this round neck for a change. It is deep enough to be flattering but still modest. Since it was a warmish day, I accessorized with a long pendant, but I’ll definitely wear it with a scarf this winter. I’m also excited to try it with tights and tall boots.

I also like the bracelet-length sleeves for, well, showing off your bracelets! I wore my gold Stella & Dot Becker Cuff the day I wore this dress to church, but for some unknown reason, I forgot to put it on when we went out to take these pictures. I noticed it when we got out of the car, but we didn’t have time to go back home because the sun was setting. I felt nekkid!

This dress does run a bit small. I am wearing the Medium, and it was a little tight in the sleeves, but it loosened up as I wore it. Another similar option is this Textured Sweater Dress. It is also on sale for $39.50, it comes in 4 rich colors, and it has long sleeves and a different shaped hem. I’m not sure how it compares fit-wise, but it’s another option!

A tip about styling a dress like this: I chose the pendant specifically because it draws attention in and down towards the waist and imitates the hourglass shape that is the illusion we all want to create when we get dressed in the morning. This strategy works best for straight and curvy shapes. If you carry more weight in your lower half or your midsection, you would want to wear a scarf or wear a shorter necklace to draw the eye up towards your face. I hope that makes sense.

I always like to have a go-to sweater dress in my fall/winter wardrobe. It’s hard to find one that meets all the criteria, but this one nails it!
