Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Preview

Greetings and happy Monday! This is it, girls. Game on! Tomorrow, I’ll be able to pre-shop the #NSale and get all the nitty gritty details for you. I hope to help you cut through the noise and find the best deals, along with offering information on sizing and fit and all that good stuff.

For now, I’m sharing a preview from the Nordstrom Anniversary Catalog and some of the items I’m excited to try tomorrow.

Also, I created a JLS #NSale Insiders Facebook Group where we can share information and ask questions. I wanted a space where it’s easier for me to interact with you all and answer specific questions, and that seemed like the best spot for that. If it goes well, I may rename it and keep it alive after the #NSale is over… we’ll see.

Of course, you can always leave a comment on any of my blog posts, and I’ll respond as soon as possible. You should receive an email when I respond to your blog comment, so you don’t miss it.

Right off the bat, I’ll say that trends I’m seeing are bold and bright, oversized, and very plaid. In other words, the 1980s called and they want their clothes back.

You really have to look beyond the over-the-top outfits and study each individual piece because there are some hidden gems under those oversized sweaters and bright wool coats.

I know we all have different budgets to work with, but I encourage you to use this sale to add investment pieces to your wardrobe. The savings are most significant if you purchase big ticket items during this sale.

That said, I will be trying and featuring products at all price points.

Okay, let’s get this party started!!!

2019 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Preview

When I shop the #NSale, I always start in the shoe department. My reason is two-fold. It’s always the busiest area, so I like to get in and out early. But I also like to have a variety of shoes to try on with the clothes — especially jeans.

The next place I go is… you guessed it… denim. I like to have a few pairs to try on with the tops and sweaters, and of course you all know the love affair I have with denim…  it’s 2nd only to my love affair with bags. Ha!

For some reason, I tend to look at bags last. I guess because by then I know what outfits I have to work with and what I might need.

I realize I shop differently than the average person, as I am looking to put together complete outfits for the blog. If you know what you need or want most, start there. But for the purpose of this post, I’ll share my picks in my priority order.

I’ve linked each product under the pictures, but you can’t shop or add to cart until 12:30 PM EST on 7/12/19. Also, most of these come in more than one color, but usually just one shows up in the link. When Early Access opens on the 12th, all colors will be visible on the website and available for purchase.

#NSale Shoe Preview

I absolutely love these cutout shield sandals, and they’re not the only peep-toe booties in the #NSale this year, so I would say the style is definitely still trending. (There were some questions about that last season.)

Vince Camuto Kimora Cutout Shield Sandals

Vince Camuto Kimora Cutout Shield Sandals
Sale Price: $99.90
After Sale Price: $149.95

I’m also seeing the return of perforated booties and wedge booties, so again, a few styles that seemed to be going “out” seem to be back in full force this season.

I love a wedge bootie, so I’m excited about these!

1.State Kaleb Wedge Booties

1.State Kaleb Wedge Booties
Sale Price: $89.90
After Sale Price: $139.95

There’s also a lot of snakeskin in the sale. Almost every shoe has a snakeskin option. I’m loving these slingback pumps in the snake, but if you’re not a snake fan, these also come in taupe, black, and a gorgeous burgundy suede.

Vince Camuto Aleema Slingback Pumps

Vince Camuto Aleema Slingback Pumps
Sale: $84.90
After Sale: $129.95

These booties with the higher shaft are perfect for wearing under crop straight and crop flare jeans, and the price is very reasonable for a trendy item like leopard print booties.

Halogen Abbi Block Heel Genuine Calf Hair Booties
Sale: $89.90
After Sale: $139.95

A pair of classic black leather booties have been on my wishlist for the past few years, and Sam Edelman just answered the call… they also come in tan suede and a bold red snakeskin print.

Sam Edelman Hiltin Knee High Boots
Sale: $149.90–$164.90
After Sale: $224.95–$249.95

I’m also really digging these loafers. They come in a bunch of colors and various textures/materials, but this cognac snakeskin caught my eye.

Marc Fisher Zurri Pointy Toe Loafers
Sale: $99.90
After Sale: $149.95

And these super popular UGG loafers from last year are back, and reinvented for 2019.

UGG Callen Loafer

UGG Calen Loafers
Sale: $64.90
After Sale: $99.95

If you’re looking to splurge…

Stuart Weitzman OTK boots are a staple in this sale and definitely one of the best bargains. This year they have two styles, and this is my favorite. I actually have almost this exact boot in brown from the 2017 #NSale.

Darla Over The Knee Boots
Sale: $499.90
After Sale: $795.00

Rag & Bone booties and Vince shoes and booties are also popular big ticket items that are always part of this sale, and this year I have my sights set on this  Vince pair:

Vince Havana Notch Booties
Sale: $263.90
After Sale: $395.00

They also have a very similar smoking slipper to my favorite Vince pair — this also comes in grey and burgundy suede.

Nordstrom definitely know what sells, and this year you will see a lot of similar styles to the past couple of years, especially in the shoe department. See more #NSale shoes (and yes, there are a lot of booties… #sorrynotsorry):

#NSale Denim Preview

As I said, I usually shop denim next. So…

This first pair is the most like the Rag & Bone skinnies I’ve been wearing to death this summer. They have what I’ve dubbed the “magic rear pockets” as well as the same 27″ inseam and 10″ leg opening, and the dark wash should be very flattering.

Rag & Bone Cate Ankle Skinnies
Sale: $166.90
After Sale: $250.00

I’m thinking these slim fit boyfriend jeans might read like a crop straight but be more flattering than most. I also like this light wash. They have a 27″ inseam and a wider 12 1/2″ leg opening, but unfortunately they don’t have the “magic rear pockets” so I’ll have to see how I like them when I try them.

Rag & Bone The Dre Slim Fit Ankle Boyfriend Jeans
Sale: $149.90
After Sale: $225.00

They’re baaaaack! Yes ma’am, according to my intel, these super popular AG legging ankle jeans from the 2017 #NSale are going to be included again this year. These are so good — one of my all time favorites.

AG The Legging Raw Hem Ankle Skinny Jeans
{my} Predicted Sale Price: $149.90
Full Retail Price: $225.00

The Farrah High Waist Ankle Skinny is also included, as well as a boyfriend cut, and the Harper straight leg style with a 32″ inseam.

These are a classic straight leg jean, and I’m really curious to see if this style takes off this fall. It’s soooo much more flattering than the cropped styles, if you ask me.

AG Harper Slim Straight Leg Jeans
Sale: $143.90
After Sale: $215.00

#NSale Sweater Preview

I love a good cozy sweater, and the #NSale is where I’ve found some of my all-time favorites through the years. This is an area where I will definitely splurge on the higher end designers. There’s always another Halogen or Leith sweater, and they all go on sale eventually, but when you can get Vince, Theory, and Nordstrom Signature sweaters at 40% off, that’s a major savings.

That said, I really like what I’m seeing from Halogen, Caslon, Leith, and Cheslea28 this year. Case in point, this cozy cowl neck sweater…

Chelsea28 Cowl Neck Sweater
Sale Price: $49.90
After Sale Price: $79.00

And this long ribbed cardigan, that comes in a gazillion gorgeous colors…

Halogen Long Ribbed Cardigan
Sale: $45.90
After Sale: $69.00

Of the higher end sweaters, this one immediately caught my eye in the catalog. After looking at all the Vince sweaters in the #NSale (and there are many), it’s still my top pick. It also comes in ivory, and I have no clue which to choose.

Vince Mixed Cable Wool & Cashmere Blend Sweater
Sale: $263.90
After Sale: $395.00

And it wouldn’t be the #NSale without a Barefoot Dreams cardigan… This year the have two — the one pictured below with the draped silhouette, and then a straight cut version as well.

Barefoot Dreams CozyChic Lite Island Cardigan
Sale: $72.90
After Sale: $110.00

#NSale Accessories

There are usually some good accessories in the sale. In past years I’ve scored a gorgeous Tory Burch watch that I still wear to this day, some nice Kendra Scott jewelry that I also still own, and various scarves and sunglasses.

Here are a few things that caught my eye so far…

Tory Burch Gradient Sunglasses
Sale: $102.90
After Sale: $155.00

Kendra Scott Lilith Pendant Necklace
Sale: $49.90F
After Sale: $78.00

#NSale Handbags

My love affair with handbags runs deep, and the Anniversary Sale is a great time to pick up a quality leather bag at a deep discount. Warning: the Tory Burch bags always go quickly.

Tory Burch Everly Tote
Sale: $352.90
After Sale: $528.00

#NSale Coats/Jackets

The North Face Miss Metro II Water Repellent Hooded Parka
Sale: $239.90
After Sale: $320.00

This is also a great time to update your outerwear wardrobe. Here are a few coats and jackets that caught my eye, although there will be a lot more.

#NSale Sleepwear / Loungewear

These UGG slippers are available in 5 colors, and they are like 35% off. Hello, Christmas shopping!!! I expect they’ll sell out the first week.

UGG Scuffette II Water Resistant Slippers
Sale: $54.90
After Sale: $84.95

And these pajamas are on my personal wishlist. They look so soft and comfy, perfect for summer and into fall… and they’re also something like 35% off.

Nordstrom Lingerie Moonlight Short Pajamas
Sale: $35.90
After Sale: $55.00

#NSale Activewear

A much anticipated inclusion in the #NSale is always Zella leggings, and this year they’ve got their original Live In High Waist Leggings as well as these Live In High Waist 7/8 Leggings. I think this print is so cute.

Zella Live In High Waist 7/8 Leggings
Sale: $38.90
After Sale: $59.00–$65.00

I’m also digging this Zella Karly Tee. I love Zella tees like this one for my gym workouts. I don’t care for tops that are too form-fitting, and this one looks like the perfect relaxed fit, and I like the sleeve detail.

Zella Karly Tee
Sale: $29.90
After Sale: $45.00

#NSale Lingerie Basics

The #NSale is famous for discounting select lingerie basics from a few popular brands — Hanky Panky, Natori, and Wacoal, to name a few. Here are this year’s top picks…

#NSale Beauty Buys

I tend to overlook the beauty offerings during the #NSale, but that’s a big mistake.

My #NSale Charlotte Tilbury lip kit was my favorite beauty purchase of all of 2018, and the lipstick was a limited edition color they never restocked. They’re back this year with another similar set, and you better believe I’m going to buy two!

The Pillow Talk Full Size Lip Kit
Sale price: $60.00
Retail Value: $78.00

And this is the best body lotion EVER. I bought it on sale at Christmastime, and after I ran out, I purchased this 33.8 fl. oz. jumbo size with pump on sale for $66.30 at L+T.

Well, guess what?

It will be $49 during the #NSale!!!

Kiehl’s Jumbo Creme de Corps Bottle with Pump
Sale price: $49.00
Retail Value: $78.00

I could go on… and on… but I’ll stop here for now!

Stay tuned for try-ons and fit tips as I actually see and touch and feel these items and may more!

  1. I just tried in the Rag and Bone boyfriend jean. It is truly the best jean I have ever tried on. I am pear shaped and the fit amazing.

  2. Omigosh I love that cowl neck sweater!!! I WILL be purchasing. I had one from old navy years and years ago and I wore that thing until it fell apart so I’m excited to see them again. Also I ordered that star sweatshirt and while it was way too hot to wear on the 4th I will still find plenty of evenings to wear it. It’s so cute!!!

  3. Thanks JoLynne for getting us set to jet for the NAS. It’s hard to think of buying Fall things in summer but it will be here before we know it.

    1. I know, I really wish they would run this sale in August. I am not at all in the mood for fall, but I know when I walk in the store tomorrow, it will be like I flipped a switch. I can’t help but get in the mood during this sale.

  4. GM and thanks for the sneak peak at the NSale. You are so good about describing the items and I enjoying checking them out but usually don’t purchase much. Because in South Texas we don’t get cold until December and by that time some of these items go on sale again or sell out but I do really like the Rag and Bone Cate Jeans 😊

  5. Thanks for a great post on the #NSale.  I feel more ready now!  Love the look of the AG Harper Slim Straight jeans but wonder about the rear pockets.  Looks like they are placed very low.  If you try on a pair, let us know what you think.  When the sale madness has passed, please share your book list.  My book club is discussing Where the Crawdads Sing next week. I’m starting it today.

  6. Excellent post!  I do have a couple of  questions for you.  1) Of the longer cardigans, do you feel that the straight front or the cascading front is the most versatile?  Since I can only add one to my closet, I want to make a smart choice.  I do prefer for the sleeves to have a little breathing room.  2) When wearing perforated booties/shoes, I prefer to wear some sort of no show sock.  However, the color shows thru the perforations, which looks awful to me.  What are your suggestions?  The bulky sweater caught my eye, but if it has to much wool content, it won’t be in my closet since it doesn’t get really cold down here.  I do plan on adding a pair of western style animal print booties to my closet from the sale.  I’ve learned that the Dr. Scholls gel arch support inserts are the perfect solution for my high arches.  I hope that you and Caroline have a blast tomorrow AND that you will share some pictures of what she tries on.

    1. I think the straight is probably more timeless and versatile. I do like the cascading look but it’s starting to feel dated to me.

I never wear socks with my perforated booties. Do they make any nude colors that match your skintone?

      1. That is what I was thinking about the style of the cardigan.  I will have to look for skin tone no show socks,
        Thanks!

  7. Would love to see the book list when you get it compiled. I’m always looking for recommendations!

  8. Thanks for the comprehensive round up of suggestions for the sale…. Lots of terrific options! Have fun with your daughter tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing your pics!

  9. Can you review some of the products in the home goods dept?  Looking for the cozy blankets they had last year.
    Thanks!

  10. So the past two years of the Nsale I’ve missed out on the Zella leggings; they sell SO fast! I’ve got the pair you show above bookmarked. I also want those AG Harper straight leg jeans! Saw them in store and they are fabulous! I love the colors of the Charlotte Tillbury lip set but it still seems expensive even at the sale price. Have you used CT before? Is it great quality? I’m also on the hunt for a new watch (as you know 😘) so we’ll see.
To clarify: we can begin actual buying at 12:30 pm eastern time on Friday, right? So for me it’ll be 9:30 am Pacific time. Need to put it in my phone calendar! My husband thinks I’m crazy; he says there will always be something to spend money on! 🤣

    1. Haha. He is right, in a way. I hate to see people stress out over a silly sale. BUT if you know what you want, the prices are really fantastic.

Yes, 9:30 AM PT is when it should go live.

And I love the CT lip set. I still have the one from last year – the pencil has been replaced but the lipstick still has some left! Probably gross, but it’s my favorite color and no way am I throwing it away.

Also, CT is the first lipstick/pencil combo I’ve found that doesn’t bleed. Even my MAC ones did. So I’m sold and never going back.

      1. Good to know more about the CT lip products. I think I might go for it and try as I hear a lot of people including you say they love it. The color looks like a perfect shade for me. Thx.

  11. I am always amazed at the work you put into your blog:)  I don’t usually shop Nordstrom as in Canada the prices are much higher and of course the shipping and returns aren’t quite like you guys get.. hoping that changes🤷‍♀️. However if I fall in love with something I may be tempted. I look forward to seeing your finds and suggestions for fall/ winter and to take advantage of some lower prices…
hard to think of fall it’s been absolutely gorgeous here and enjoying all the pool time…
Have fun tomorrow and happy shopping 🛍

      1. Yup… and the loft sure doesn’t offer the same deals or sales here either… seems like we pay through the nose…

  12. I love everything you advertised, and all the great descriptions!  Now for the Keihl’s body cream, I will ask that you read the ingredients, as some are quite toxic to women, and hormone disrupters.  There are way better organic, naturally derived body lotions out there for a fraction of the cost.  As we get older, we become less tolerable to these unfortunate ingredients.  Great post!!

    1. Hi Lin…..I was interested in your comment about the lotion Jolynne liked. I too think of ingredients and have recently been trying to get all my household and beauty products CLEAN.  Hard, as I also have food allergies etc. that can get in the way.  But, my question is, do you have a body lotion to recommend that is CLEAN?  It takes so much time and research and I’m not doing so well on the lotion.  🙂  Thanks.

      1. Hi Kathy, the ones I use the most often, that are quite affordable here in Canada are Burt’s Bees, Jason, Aleva, Live Clean, and good old fashioned organic, virgin, cold-pressed coconut oil.  Amazon has many others you could certainly choose from.  I also strictly use Burt’s Bees makeup and love it.  Take care.

  13. SO many great things at the NSale! I think the Harper Slim Jeans look promising and I am in love, love, love with the Lambskin Leather Moto Jacket!! I can’t wait until I can start shopping on the 12th and in the meantime, I’m trying to figure out how I can get Nordstrom to open a store in Northern Nevada :))
P.S. I loved Where the Crawdad Sings – such a great book!!

  14. Jo-Lynn! What a GREAT post – I feel more prepared already. Thanks for advice on lipstick Charlotte Tilbury – my lipstick always bleeds. sigh. I’m interested in leopard that I can wear in a corporate setting – maybe a skirt? Sweater? Excited to read tomorrow’s post. Take lots of photos! Is it like I Love Lucy where Lucy and Ethel get trampled in a store during a big sale? LOL that’s what I think of. Have fun!

    1. It’s not crowded at all on the pre-shop day. It gets a little bit more busy – dressing rooms may be hard to get – as the day goes on, but nothing like Walmart at Christmastime, haha! On the first day of Early Access, it’s definitely buzzing, but no one is obnoxious. It’s more like Nordstrom at holiday time. It’s fun! 🙂

  15. I have the Kate Spade Colette in black that I used all last winter. And dare I say I think I love it even more than the Jackson St Mylie! For me the more structured bag and slightly smaller size make it perfect. I will definitely be considering getting one in another color!

I’m thinking this year maybe the one that I spring for some higher end jeans. Unfortunately I am on the upper end of regular sizing and the only pair of AG jeans I’ve tried just didn’t work for me. I’m a bit timid about going for it again but the way you talk about them makes it very tempting.

    1. How tall are you? You may prefer Good American – women who are curvy love them – or any of the higher rise styles will feel better. I know even when I”m up a few pounds, I much prefer the higher rises.
