Spring Denim Refresh: Looser Fits & Lightweight Styles from Gap Factory

Spring is all about lighter layers and relaxed silhouettes, and this season, denim is following suit. Looser fits, softer fabrics, and easygoing washes are everywhere right now. Gap Factory has some great budget-friendly finds that tap into this trend, from their ultra-comfortable Soft Denim Collection to breezy linen essentials. I’ve put together a few fresh denim-based outfits that I hope will inspire you to mix up your spring style!

And to sweeten the deal, everything is 40–70% off right now! Plus, you can use code GFEXTRA for an extra 10% off your purchase from 3/20–3/25.

This first look combines two trends in one, and the pieces are both easy to mix and match with other staples in your closet. Butter yellow is having a moment, and these wide-leg ankle jeans in the aptly named Vanilla Pudding are a fun way to bring in some color without going too bold. They have a relaxed fit with a high rise and a 27″ inseam that hits right at my ankle. I styled them here with white leather sneakers and a denim shirt for a casual but polished look.

My denim shirt plays into the cropped button-up trend I mentioned last week—which got a lot of mixed reactions! It seems like one of those love-it-or-hate-it styles, but I’m a fan. Since I’m short-waisted, it’s an easy way to wear a button-up without worrying about tucking or knotting.

As you can see, it comes down a few inches past the waistband of my jeans, but if you’re worried about showing any skin when you move around, just layer a cami underneath. In fact, another option is to keep it unbuttoned, for a more relaxed vibe.

My next look features the new High Rise Drapey Soft Seamed Wide-Leg Jeans. I was skeptical when I ordered them, but I have to admit, they’re actually kind of fun for a change! They’re a spin on the “sweatshirt jeans” trend I mentioned in my Spring Denim Trends post, and while they aren’t a knit material, they do have that same relaxed, drapey look that gives them an effortless feel.

I kept it simple with a white v-neck tee for a clean, fresh look. If you’re refreshing your white t-shirts for the season, this one is a great budget-friendly pick. Made from 100% cotton jersey, it strikes the perfect balance—not too thick, not too thin. The straight, easy fit has just the right amount of drape for a flattering front tuck, and I love the shape of the V-neck and the trim for a polished finish.

Since the jeans already make a statement, I didn’t want to overcomplicate the outfit. I just threw a pink sweater over my shoulders to add a little color and texture, and keep it from feeling too plain.

My last look is super simple, but it might actually be my favorite. Linen button-ups are still going strong this season, and while I love the cropped versions, this longer style is a classic that will always have a spot in my closet.

The Gap Factory Linen-Blend Easy Shirt is made from a linen-rayon blend and has all the classic details, plus a curved shirttail hem that’s slightly longer in the back for a flattering, feminine fit. I wore it untucked with slim-fit light-wash jeans and raffia slides for that effortless, quiet luxury vibe I love.

  1. Sign me up for being a fan of the cropped button up shirt. I have tried and tried, but button up shirts look terrible on me, being short waisted also. I finally got rid of all I had left, and was so excited when the cropped version came out. Of course, now I have the problem of buttons gapping, but I can size up or wear them open. The jeans are really cute.

  2. I like the shirts but can’t say that about the butter yellow jeans. To my eye they look like high waters. I used to like pants or jeans like that but after so many people saying they look like high waters they’ve persuaded me. I like the longer jeans but they would be too wide for my petite self. I like Gap Factory and have many of their pieces especially T-shirts.

  3. I’m also a fan of the shortened shirts. They give the ideal 1/3, 2/3 proportions to an outfit without any effort on my part.
I also like off-white or vanilla pants and jeans for spring and summer – they’re a nice alternative to optic white. I’ve had good experiences with Gap Factory and like their quality.

  4. My favorite is the white linen shirt with straight jeans. I love white tops period but I love linen white. I have had one going on 4 years now and it still looks new. It’s doesn’t wrinkle like some. Wondering how rayon with linen in this one would do? Rayon wrinkles bad. I was in the store not long ago and debated on the royal blue color. Didn’t buy, but thinking I might now.

      1. Megan……I stand corrected. I just looked at the shirt and its 100% cotton, but it has a weave to it that looks linen. I love it. Its Lou and Grey brand from LOFT. But, like I said its several years old. Perfect length too. Sorry for the mistake.

        1. That sounds like a perfect shirt! I’ll definitely keep an eye out for something similar there. I love the look of linen (and the feel of it in our 100 degree humidity!) but hate the wrinkling. A cotton that looks like linen sounds like the best of both worlds! Wish somebody would make pants like that.

  5. I love all of the looks especially the denim cropped blouse and the yellow pants. GAP Factory offers tall sizes in some of their tops/blouses so I purchased a denim recently for my daughter who is almost 6 feet.

  6. Awesome outfits. I will be copying them all. I will be shopping my closet to make most of these looks. This makes me happy so I can save the clothing budget for some special purchases $$$

  7. I like the cropped button up shirts too! I got one with short sleeves last summer from J Crew and was skeptical at first because I didn’t realize how short it was going to be, but it totally works. Now I’m on the hunt for a long sleeved version. Thank you!

  8. I’m also short waisted so seeing all the cropped tops right now has me stocking up for when fashion goes the other way in a season or 2 and everything is way too long for me again. I love the cropped denim shirt and can see that being worn as a light topper all summer long.

  9. All of these outfits look great on you and are perfection. This 68 year old is not a big fan of the cropped tops. If I were short waisted, I might like them more.

  10. Being long-waisted and with a stomach, I think the cropped trend looks great on you but not on me! I do like the butter-yellow jeans and the linen shirt. I bought those Edelman raffia slides in blue last year because of you and loved them- looking forward to breaking them out again.

  11. I’m short-waisted as well, and I bought one of the Evereve cropped button-up shirts you highlighted (although I purchased mine before your blog post came out, so you didn’t receive the commission – sorry!). I love my shirt so, so much. I also bought the Frankie Stretch Linen Shacket. I wish I had seen your post first, as I would have chosen a slightly longer length, too. I’ve worn the shacket twice and love it, but I feel like it’s a tad short. I think I’ll get so much use out of this topper!
