Spring Trench Coat Outfit

We are in the throes of April here in eastern Pennsylvania. We have some cool days and some milder days, and there’s a chance of rain almost every day. So what does one wear during this challenging month, when you want to look a little more leveled up?

Something like this spring trench coat outfit… although there are certainly days when I’d need to swap the sandals for a closed shoe.

Spring Trench Coat Outfit wearing: Everlane The Alpaca Sweater Tee // Frame Le High Ankle Straight Leg Jeans // Dolce Vita Paily Slide Sandals // similar trench (50% off) // BR leather hobo // Kendra Scott hoops // Victoria Emerson bracelet c/o

I have this alpaca sweater tee in the heathered black, and I liked it so much I picked it up in this pretty heathered laurel for spring. It’s perfect for milder days because the knit offers some warmth, but the short sleeves keep me from getting overheated. And of course, you can layer it under a jacket if you want an additional layer.

I shared these jeans before, but they’re no longer on sale unless you can get lucky and find your size on Shopbop. The straight cut and trouser-inspired front seams give them a more polished appearance than my go-to skinnies.

These jeans have a 27″ inseam and a 10 1/2″ front rise, and they run true to size; I have my usual 28.

As you can see, I chose sandals with this outfit, even though it’s not quite sandal weather here in Pennsylvania.

STYLE TIP: Straight ankle jeans tend to make your legs look shorter than they actually are, so wearing a heel in a similar color visually elongates the line of the leg and makes you look taller and leaner.

I believe the only retailer with these sandals still in stock is Bloomingdale’s, but they are not currently on sale. I’ll keep an eye on them; Bloomies run sales often. Also, the taupe color is amazing. I actually kept both because I couldn’t decide which I like better. I did size down half, per my usual with slides.

For accessories, I added a Victoria Emerson wrap bracelet and silver filigree hoops. I also carried the taupe leather hobo from Banana Republic.

And I topped it all off with a classic trench. Mine is an older style, but I found this one on sale at Nordstrom. It has a similar single-button style, and it also comes in this pretty silvery grey!

Not a fan of grey? The black is also on sale. And then it also comes in stone and sea green, but those are full price at the moment. I’ve got half a mind to order the black. Sometimes I wish I had a black trench.

Spring Trench Coat Outfit

At any rate, a trench coat is a wardrobe basic I would never want to be without, even though I don’t wear mine a ton. It’s the perfect spring topper for church and business casual outfits such as this one, and you can also wear your trench to level up more casual looks.

  1. This post has great timing! I bought a trench coat (khaki beige) last spring and it hung in the closet with the tags thanks to covid and very little reason to wear it! This Spring I have found myself reaching for it on I occasion and yes, I don’t want to feel to over dressed when I do wear it. I’ve styled it with my chewed hem jeans, sneakers from banana republic and a light weight sweater underneath and felt put together but not over done. Love the grey you’ve styled today and yes a black would be great too! I’m expecting to wear mine as the cooler temperatures and April showers come!

    1. Karen-I’ve often wanted to try Banana Republic sneakers but not sure how they fit or wear. Which ones do you have and are they TTS?

  2. GM Jolynne from a cloudy Cape Cod, I could use a trench coat these past few weeks. Your trench coat is such a pretty color. Doesn’t it seem to take forever until the warmer weather finally arrives?

I have a question on packing for a trip. In an earlier post you mentioned using a “train case” for all your beauty products. This might be a stupid question but I haven’t cleared out all the cobwebs yet from my brain. Do you then pack the train case inside a regular suitcase or check separately?

    Thx

  3. When I opened the Blog post this morning the new layout and font really stood out to me. It is clear, crisp, and easy to read. Just thought you might like to know. I appreciate your stylish Spring outfit. I have never worn a trench coat but that beautiful blue makes me think about it. I’ll be on the search. Thanks.

  4. A great outfit and I like that the gray reads as a light blue. Not sure if it does in real life. I always struggle with necklaces, to wear or not to wear. Was there a reason why you chose not to wear a necklace? Was it because of the “band” around the neckline? Thanks, Jo-Lynne!
