The Perfect Walking the Dog Outfit for Fall
I’ve had requests for more activewear looks, and this is the perfect walking the dog outfit and my go-to mom uniform for fall.
On the days that I don’t go running, I try to at least get out and walk the dog so I can get my Fibit steps in for the day. In the summertime, that just means throwing on sneakers with my shorts and t-shirt, but in the fall and winter, I usually want to wear activewear so I can move comfortably and don’t get my street clothes sweaty.
In fact, sometimes I’ll wear an outfit like this all day if I’m not going anywhere besides the grocery store. It’s cute enough to take you out and about but comfortable enough for walking the dog or chasing the kids around the park — not that I do that anymore, but I know some of you have young kids or watch your grandkids from time to time.
These straight-leg Zella Plank Pants are so comfortable. I like how they don’t flare out as much as traditional yoga pants, but they aren’t so skinny that they look like leggings. The contoured seams down the sides create a flattering silhouette.
This packable vest is perfect for chilly mornings and breezy nights. It’s lightweight and not bulky at all, and the synthetic down insulation is supposed to keep you comfortable even when wet.
I haven’t ever had one quite like this before. Most down vests I try are bulky and make me feel like the abominable snowman, but this one is thin and the shape is flattering.
For size reference, I’m wearing the medium, and it fits snugly but not too tight. I can zip it if I want to, but I will probably usually leave it open. It lays nicely when it is open. I have returned so many vests over the years because they don’t sit right over the front of my body, but this one is perfect.
Underneath, I’m wearing the Zella Fresh Tech Tee in Teal Compass. I wish I’d thought to get a picture of it without the vest so you can see how cute it is. It’s thin and lightweight and slightly longer in the back than the front. Here’s a look at the back.
The scoop neck and diagonal seams are figure-flattering, and it has some nice details like cooling mesh insets and thumbholes. I have long arms, so sometimes I find the sleeves on thumbhole shirts to be too short and tug on my hand, but these sleeves are long and give me plenty of freedom of movement.
By the way, that pink water bottle I’m carrying is my favorite. They are spendy, but they work soooo well and keep my water cold for hours.
For sneakers, I’m wearing the Nike Pegasus 32. There are only a few sizes left, but the Pegasus 33 are out now, and there are tons of colors available in that style. These sneakers have a lot of padding and are very squishy and soft. I love them for walking or hanging out, but I don’t run in them. Because of my past foot injuries, I need a sneaker with more structure for running. For running, I wear the Saucony Guide.
I about died of heat stroke shooting this outfit in 90-degree heat on Saturday, but this will be perfect when cooler temperatures set in. Savannah had fun, anyway. She’s always up for a walk, no matter what the temperature!
