Valentine’s Outfit Inspo

nordstrom disclosure

I don’t know if it’s because Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, or if I’m just craving color during these cold, bleak winter days, but I’ve been really enjoying wearing shades of pink lately!

Today I styled two easy looks with pink tops that you can certainly wear anytime, but they would also be perfect for any casual Valentine’s Day (or Galentine’s Day) celebrations you may have coming up. Best of all, everything I’m wearing is available at Nordstrom, for easy one-stop shopping!

This first look features a ribbed Rails cardigan in a bold shade they call Malibu Pink. I discovered this sweater when I was shopping in-store, and I was immediately drawn in by the striking color and the soft and cozy knit.

Cropped cardigans are trending right now, and this one is full of subtle yet fabulous details – from the raglan sleeves, to the slightly puff sleeves, to the contrasting horn buttons. The 22 1/2″ length is perfect for pairing with high rise jeans, and it runs true to size.

I managed to snag mine while it was on sale, but it’s back to full price at the moment. I’ll keep an eye on it and let you know if I see it on sale again!

These jeans are the AG Farrah Bootcut in 2 Years Dropout that I picked up a few weeks ago, during a different in-store shopping trip.

They have a comfortable 10 3/4″ front rise with a 32 1/2″ inseam with a 19″ leg opening, making them perfect for pairing with heels for date night. I like how the bootcut silhouette balances out the volume in the sweater.

I accessorized with a silver tone layered pendant necklace (in-stock options here and here) and delicate orbital earrings.

I also added my favorite YSL shades. This DIFF pair is similar, but not quite as pricey.

The black pointed toe leather booties keep a cohesive look on the bottom and extend the line of the leg.

They’re also on an amazing sale right now and still fairly well stocked! These are my go-to black booties for dressier looks when I want a heel.

For an outfit with a more casual vibe, I grabbed this Caslon drape neck sweatshirt in the Pink Gale. It’s more of a subtle shade of pink with lavender undertones, and it has some fun details that set it apart from your typical sweatshirt. Plus, it’s a great price, at $45!

In addition to the drape neck styling, it has banded cuffs and waistband and a flattering shape through the waist area.

I typically don’t love a drop shoulder, but it has a nice slim cut through the arms, and the seam up the back is another fun detail.

This top comes in several colors; in fact, I also ordered the Black Wash, which I also like a lot. It runs true to size, or you could size up for more room in the arms.

I love light wash blue jeans with shades of pink, so I paired this top with the Mother Dazzler in a powder blue wash they call In The Blink Of An Eye.

The fabric is a soft and stretchy 78% cotton, 16% modal, 4% polyester, 2% elastane; and they have a 10 1/2″ front rise with a 28″ inseam and 13″ leg opening.

They’re similar to a pair I’ve been wearing non-stop for the past year or so, but these have finished hems, which makes them a little more refined.

The 28″ inseam is perfect for pairing with sneakers, or they slip easily over a higher shaft bootie like these Sorel Hi-Line Chelsea Boots.

When I took these pictures, these boots were in stock, but I see the Chalk/Ceramic color is gone now. Another option would be the Sorel Brex Block Heel Chelsea Boot.

I love the white boots for a change, but you could also wear grey or taupe with this outfit, or leather fashion sneakers are another good option.

  1. Jo-Lynne – that Rails sweater is beautiful on you. I don’t think it’s too bright at all- perfect with your skin tone! Love the buttons down the front – would be great on a straight like me. 😀
I will be keeping my eye out for sale!
    Have a great day!

  2. I always enjoy something pink/red around Valentine’s Day and like you said it is so dreary right now I personally love Valentines!

The 2 looks are wonderful- off topic but I love your hair – can’t tell if it has any layering ? And is your hair very fine or thick ? Hard to tell I. Photos but it always looks great 😊

    1. My hair is very fine and thin. It’s all one length, but it thins out on the ends. She only does a bit of texturizing in the very back. Sometimes I wear a halo extension to make it look thicker. I believe I was wearing it in these pictures. 🙂

  3. Hi Jo-Lynne!! Love the pink on you. That is a Beautiful shade. Also, love the draped neck sweatshirt. I love that the sweatshirt has a shape to it.. I have never liked the straight shapes. Keep up the good work for us. You have put together some beautiful outfits. Have a Great Day!! ❤️

  4. I’m always looking for lighter weight sweatshirts that can be a bit dressier to pair with jeans and a casual sneaker! Instead of always reaching for a sweater which I’m finding too warm lately… I love the color of the last one you’ve shared . I might have to order that one from Nordstrom as I notice it’s on the Canada site!

    1. Ditto to Karen’s comments, love that lavender sweater and the sort of boatneck neckline is always flattering to me.

  5. You look great in those two colors in the sweaters and really rocking those bootleg jeans. You look absolutely amazing in the hot pink cardigan and black jeans.

I’m the same way every January. I want to wear spring colors. I’ve made fashion mistakes buying colors that don’t suit me. I’m trying to learn so discerning what I buy. Also I enjoyed your post yesterday too.
Have you ordered any wide leg jeans to show us? I remember you said you might. Bootleg jeans right now are my favorite but I think I want to try a wide leg if it’s proportioned to my body. I wished I hadn’t ditched a black pair I had from before skinny jeans. They fit me perfectly. The key is they have to fit right in the rear and hips.

    1. I have, but I don’t know what to wear with them… I don’t like fitted tops. I only have one pair that I kept thinking I might be able to make them work. Most looked pretty bad. I will play around and share in next week’s try-on haul.

      1. I’m with you on fitted tops. I don’t like body con. I looked at a photo I have of my sister and I back in the 70s. We’re both in wide leg jeans. I’m wearing a sleeveless top probably tucked in or it was cropped. My sister has a crop shirt tied in front at the waist. The last wide leg jeans I had in the 2000s I think I wore them with more fitted tops but never tight. Tops used to be made shorter than now so I may have left untucked.

  6. Hi Jo-Lynne! Quick question about the black AG bootcut jeans. I ordered them in my size and they are sooo tight (like lay down on the bed to zip them up tight). I really really like everything about them, but wondering if they stretch out. Debating about going up a size. Any thoughts?

    1. Yes, they fit me small too. I have the 29 in these on the 28th in the blue pair, and the 28 in the blue fits perfectly but the 29 in the black snug so definitely consider a size up. They don’t really stretch out at all with wear.
