What I Packed & Wore for a Week in St. Lucia

I’m back home and still processing our epic vacation to St. Lucia last week. Jade Mountain Resort was absolutely incredible—unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. I’ll share a full trip recap when I have more time, but today I wanted to start with what I packed and wore on the trip.

I definitely packed more than the average person needs, but I knew I’d be photographing outfits for the blog, so I brought a lot of extra options. I ended up wearing most of them simply because I had them with me, but if I’d packed lighter, I could have easily re-worn several pieces.

All that said, everything still fit in my new Quince Expandable Carry-On Suitcase. I didn’t even have to expand it—although I did have to sit on it to get it closed, haha!

Vacation Outfits for a Week in St. Lucia: What I Wore

If you’re planning a warm weather trip, these are the outfits I wore in St. Lucia and the pieces that worked best for the warm, tropical weather.

Travel Day

To travel down, I wore my new Ruti The On the Loose Work Pants because they’re so comfortable and lightweight, and I figured they wouldn’t be too hot upon arrival. (They’re also on sale right now!)

I kept it simple on top with a white slub muscle tank that I knew I could also wear with other bottoms in my suitcase. And I topped it off with my Risen Pocket Detailed Jacket from Social Threads that I could also wear as a topper over dresses or t-shirts if it got chilly in St. Lucia.

For shoes, I went with my On Cloud slip-on sneakers so I’d be comfortable in the airport—but also so I could wear them for workouts, hikes, or any other active things at the resort. As it turned out, we had to walk about 500 steps to the beach and back each day, so those sneakers got a lot of use!

My new Quince luggage held up great on this trip. I was able to fit everything I wanted to bring into my carry-on suitcase, thanks in large part to this quilted duffle, which fit all of my toiletries, hair dryer, cords and cables, jewelry, and even my purse.

I wanted to wear mostly dresses on this trip, so I brought quite a few! I just find they’re the easiest option in warm weather, and they pack up so easily.

Quick note: Quite a few of the dresses in this post are from Tommy Bahama, and they’re currently 25% off during their Friends & Family Sale!

I feel like they do a great job with resort wear that isn’t too froo-froo, for lack of a better way to put it! Their pieces have a modern classic, polished look, the quality is consistently good, and the fits are generally flattering on a woman of a certain age. They also offer free shipping over $100 and free returns for 45 days, which makes it easy to order two sizes if you’re unsure.

First Night Dinner: Jade Mountain Club

There is one main restaurant at Jade Mountain, along with a few other options at their neighboring resort, Anse Chastanet. We ended up eating at Jade Mountain Club five out of our seven nights there because the food and service were exceptionally good, and the menu changes each night, so it never feels repetitive.

For our first dinner, I wasn’t sure how dressed up people would be, and I never like to feel overdone, so I chose a dress that felt kind of in the middle. This black v-neck sheath (25% off at Tommy Bahama) has a super flattering fit, and I love that the straps are wide enough to wear with a regular bra. The fabric is very forgiving, and it’s one of those pieces you can easily dress up or down.

I dressed it up with some bolder jewelry but kept the rest of the look simple with flat, strappy gold sandals and a straw clutch. I also brought my denim jacket in case it got chilly, since the dining room was open air.

Day 1: Resort Tour

The next day, I pulled on another Tommy Bahama dress for breakfast. This one is a little more casual but just as comfortable and so easy to throw on and go. It was another MVP from the trip that I reached for a few times, and I know I’ll wear it a lot at home this spring and summer, too. (And as a reminder, this one is 25% off during their Friends & Family Sale.)

I changed to go on a tour of the property, although I’m not sure why I didn’t just keep the dress on. But I do remember we went straight to the beach once the tour was over, so I had packed my swimsuit and cover-up in my woven tote.

Free People Neria Tank (L) // KUT Linen Shorts (M) // Tkees Lily Flip Flops (8) c/o // Sea Seeker Pendant Necklace c/o // Bryan Anthonys Necklace c/o // Quince Globe Hoops c/o // NAGHEDI tote

Also, you’ll see the Sea Seeker Pendant Necklace and You Are My Sunshine Necklace a lot throughout this post! I love this pairing—it’s the perfect beachy necklace combo, and I wore them together almost every day on vacation. The quality is really nice, and they add just the right amount of interest without feeling over the top. They also make really sweet gifts if you’re looking for something meaningful for a special someone.

Mine were gifted, and they were kind enough to give me a code to share. You can use code JOLYNNE20 for 20% off your Bryan Anthonys order. They also offer free shipping on orders over $100.

For dinner that night, I wore the Quince linen midi dress in the blue pinstripe. For reference, I sized up to a large in this one, but I really like it. It feels like such a classic look, and the linen is perfect for vacation or for wearing at home this summer.

I accessorized with a coastal-inspired toggle bracelet from Tommy Bahama, which is 25% off right now. I added a pair of mother-of-pearl earrings from LOFT and a blue beaded necklace set from Anthropologie. I was really trying to branch out from my usual pieces!

Day 2: Resort Shops & Rooftop Cocktails

The next morning for breakfast, I decided to try the Quince linen pants that arrived right before I left for our trip. I had tried other sizes and felt like I needed the 12, but after wearing them to breakfast, they felt a bit big—so maybe I should give the 10 another shot.

I do really like the design, though, with the flat front and patch pockets, and this flax color is really nice, too. I paired them with a stretchy Free People tank, figuring a fitted top would look best with the flowy bottoms, but I struggled a bit with whether to tuck it or not. I like the idea of this look, but I feel like it still needs a little work, lol.

I also added some fun starfish earrings and a beaded necklace to layer with my Bryan Anthonys pendants.

It was raining off and on all day, so after breakfast we hung out in our room for a while, waiting to see what the weather would do. Eventually we wandered down to one of the shops and picked up some souvenirs, and then we came back to the room and read. It was very relaxing.

I swapped the linen pants and sandals for linen shorts and flip-flops, and I love this tank, by the way. It’s from Free People, so it has some fun details that are hard to see in photos, like exposed side seams and trim on the V-neck. It’s also a really good length for pairing with higher-rise pants and shorts.

For size reference, I sized up to a large. It runs pretty small.

There was a cocktail reception on the rooftop that night, and even though it was still raining off and on, we got dressed up to go. I’m glad we did—it was really fun, and we met a few other couples as well as the general manager, who was very interesting to chat with.

I finally got up the nerve to wear this strapless dress from Social Threads. It felt a bit outside of my comfort zone, but it was really fun and fit the venue perfectly. I decided to put my hair up and used one of these clips from Amazon. It took a few tries—and the help of a TikTok video, lol—but I finally got it to work!

Dress Forum Strapless Dress (M) // Sam Edelman Camille Kitten Heels (8) // J.Crew Clutch // Sea Seeker Pendant c/o // Electric Picks Jewel Necklace c/o // LOFT Bar Cuff Bracelet

Also, that little J.Crew Clutch turned out to be the best bag for this trip. It felt dressy enough for dinners but casual enough for breakfast, and I even tucked it into my larger tote for the beach to hold a few essentials so they didn’t get lost in the bottom of the bag.

Day 3: Plantation Tour & ‎⁨Anse Chastanet⁩ Beach

The next day was bright and sunny, and I decided to wear this pretty pink top with my white shorts to breakfast. They would deliver breakfast to our room, but Paul has a thing about room service—he hates it, lol! I actually enjoy it every once in a while, but I did enjoy going up to the restaurant each day and making it a bit more of an experience. The view was beautiful, and the staff is super attentive and friendly, so it was a really nice way to start each day.

This top is by Sanctuary, and it’s such a pretty shade of pink. I love the details, and it’s easy to front-tuck into shorts or pants. It runs big, though—I have the small in this one. And these are my favorite white shorts for summer.

Sanctuary Split Neck Tee (S) // Vineyard Vines Herringbone Shorts (10) // J.Crew Clutch // Quince Globe Hoops c/o // Sea Seeker Pendant & You Are My Sunshine Necklace c/o // LOFT Bar Cuff Bracelet // Kaanas Alayta Sandals (8)

After breakfast, I changed into workout clothes for the plantation tour because it was hot and humid, and I figured it would be kind of sweaty. I purchased this hat at the shop on the way down because I forgot mine, and I was glad I had it.

We spent about an hour in the jungle exploring the remains and learning about the history of the island, as well as the plant life and vegetation on the property.

After that, we hit the beach again! I wore my new Stylest swimsuit, and it really is an amazing suit. I love how it smooths and holds without feeling constrictive, and it’s flattering without being too revealing. It has the option to hook the straps together in the back, which I did. I like how it adds a little interest, and it also provides more support that way.

The matching sarong is a nice touch, too. I felt put together whenever I wanted to walk around or head to the beach bar. You can use code JOLYNNE15 for 15% off if you want to give one a try.

That night for dinner, I wore this pink linen shift. It’s actually not my favorite fit, but I love the color. It sold out at Tommy Bahama, but I found it at Dillard’s if you’re interested.

Day 4: Spa Day & Dinner at The Treehouse

The next morning was the only one where we ordered breakfast to our room. We weren’t very hungry and just wanted coffee and pastries, but I wanted to experience it at least once since having a private meal in your sanctuary is one of the things Jade Mountain is known for. They set it up beautifully overlooking the Pitons, and it did not disappoint!

I wore the blue lace-up dress again to walk down to the spa, where we had booked massages. Once we got there, we found out it was a couples massage, which was a bit odd, I have to say, lol! Not exactly what we had planned, but we just went with it.

After that, we hit the beach again, but I didn’t get any pictures of my suit. I wore the Sea Level Cross Front in Cocoa, which is a longtime favorite. I have it in several colors now—and a few different sizes, ha! It’s super easy to get on and off, extremely flattering, and I love that the pads are built in so they don’t get all janky when you pull it on (or get lost in the wash).

Sunset Harbor Lace Up Dress (M) // Tkees Lily Flip Flops (8) c/o // J.Crew Clutch // Quince Globe Hoops c/o

That night, we tried a restaurant on the neighboring property for dinner, and I wore this Z Supply mesh dress with a palm print, which felt very appropriate for St. Lucia! I styled it simply with the Sam Edelman raffia slides and J.Crew straw bag and some delicate jewelry.

Day 5: Burgers on Anse Mamin Beach

The next morning, we went to breakfast again at Jade Mountain Club, and I wore this olive green linen sheath—another one of my Tommy Bahama finds!

As a reminder, it’s 25% off right now, and it also comes in blue and black. I have the black with contrast stitching from last year, and it’s one of my favorites. I didn’t bring it on this trip because it’s fitting a bit snug these days. I sized up to a large in this olive one.

Palm-A-Dora Sheath Dress (L) – 25% off // Kaanas Alayta Sandals (8) // J.Crew Clutch // Jenny Bird Florence Earrings // YSL Sunnies

After breakfast, we finally made it down to the second beach on the property, Anse Mamin. It’s known for their Jungle Beach Bar & Grill, with amazing burgers, and we had to try one before the trip was over. It really did live up to the hype. Sadly, I didn’t get any pictures.

You can take a boat or walk along the water to get to Anse Mamin, and we decided to walk it. I finally wore the Tommy Bahama St. Lucia Coverup Dress, along with a Miraclesuit swimsuit underneath, and of course my Eric Javits sun hat. It has SPF protection and looks chic, too, so I wore it every day at the beach.

Dinner that night was back at Jade Mountain Club, and I wore this elegant linen shift dress. I just love the print and the fit of this dress. It also comes in solid colors, if you prefer. I actually ordered it in the black, although I’m thinking now I would like that pretty pink…

Day 6: Anse Chastanet Beach

We spent our last day back at Anse Chastanet Beach, which we decided was actually our favorite—even though Anse Mamin was lovely and a little more secluded. But first, we went up to breakfast, and I pulled on yet another Tommy Bahama dress I brought.

This one is a really nice option for casual days and travel. The fabric and styling are very forgiving, and it’s lightweight, stretchy, and comfortable. It also packs amazingly well without any wrinkles. They’ve had this style for years and bring it back in different colors and patterns. I actually wore a plain blue one in Italy a few years ago!

Darcy Froto Ponds Sheath Dress (M) – 25% off // Tkees Lily Flip Flops (8) c/o // Naghedi Tote // LOFT Bar Cuff Bracelet // Tom Ford Selby Sunnies

I wore this Talbots ruched swimsuit and Tommy Bahama floral pareo to the beach. This suit is super flattering and also very easy to get on and off.

While I love the Stylest Bodysuit and Miraclesuit Captivate for their support and smoothing abilities, and the Sea Level Cross Front is the easiest to get off and on (it also has built-in pads that don’t get all out of whack—a huge bonus), this Talbots one is kind of the best of both worlds. It has some tummy control, and the ruching is very forgiving, but it isn’t a workout to get in and out of. It’s also 40% off right now, which is an amazing deal!

Talbots Aqua Club One Piece (M) – 40% off // Tommy Bahama Silk Blend Pareo -25% off // Tkees Lily Flip Flops // Naghedi Tote // Eric Javits hat // YSL Sunnies

And for our final dinner at Jade Mountain Club, I wore the Z Supply mesh dress again with the raffia slides and straw clutch. I added a fun pair of earrings I bought at the resort shop, the Bryan Anthonys necklaces, and a gold bangle.

We had lost power for a few hours that afternoon, so I wasn’t able to shower and dry my hair, so I put it up in one of those claw clips again. I’m loving this solution for dirty hair!

Travel Home Day

On our last day, we packed everything up and then went to breakfast one last time at Jade Mountain Club. My Ruti pants were feeling pretty snug by then (oops!), so I decided to travel home in this dress. It’s super comfortable, and I was worried I’d be overheated on the ride back and in the St. Lucia airport. I was not wrong!

Darcy Sheath Dress (M) – 25% off // Kaanas Alayta Sandals (8) // Sea Seeker Pendant & You Are My Sunshine Necklace c/o // Quince Globe Hoops c/o // the prodigal St. Laurent handbag

I was actually quite comfortable in this dress all day, and I didn’t even need the jacket until I was on the plane. Even the sandals worked out just fine. When we arrived home in Philly, it was in the 50s, so I wasn’t too cold there either.

Paul took this picture quickly at the airport while we were lined up to board the plane, so it’s a bit of an awkward angle. But I wanted to capture the full travel look with my denim jacket and the suitcases.

Risen Pocket Detailed Jacket (M) // Darcy Sheath Dress – 25% off // Kaanas Alayta Sandals (8) // Sea Seeker Pendant & You Are My Sunshine Necklace c/o // Quince Globe Hoops c/o // Quince Transit Quilted Bag // Quince Expandable Carry-On Suitcase

I was able to fit my purse into the duffle bag, but I pulled it out on the plane and somehow managed to leave it behind! Thankfully, they found it, and I’m going to get it back today.

And that’s a wrap on everything I wore! Clearly I could have repeated more outfits and packed lighter, but I was happy to have all the options. I hadn’t done a trip quite like this before, so I wasn’t sure what I’d want—and since it all fit in a carry-on, I figured I might as well bring the extra options.

What I Packed for a Week in St. Lucia

In addition to everything shown above, I did bring a few things I never wore. Even though I didn’t photograph it, I did wear the Amazon cover-up a few times.

There was a small pool in our room (yes, seriously!), and I wore it after using the pool a couple of times. One day I also brought it along as an extra cover-up for the beach when I also had a pareo.

Walking to and from the beach was quite a distance, so I liked having a little extra coverage. The pareos were great for the beach, though—easy to throw on to go to the bathroom or the beach bar.

I also brought one additional suit that I never wore—the navy STYLEST tank. I do like it, though, and I’ll definitely bring it to Florida next month.

I also packed an extra white tee that I never wore, along with the black Tommy Bahama sweater tank. And I never ended up wearing the J.Crew Factory Beach Sweater either.

It was very warm there and nothing was air-conditioned, so I really didn’t need a top layer very often. I didn’t even wear the jean jacket much while I was there, although I did throw it over my shoulders at dinner one night when we ate later and the air was cooling down.

Here’s a look at my rolling rack before I started packing. And yes, I did fit every single thing you see here into my bag (minus my travel outfit)!

I even added the black Darcy V-neck dress to my duffle at the last minute because it arrived after I filmed my packing video the day before we left.

The real feat was fitting it all back in to come home—plus the sneakers! I had to sit on my suitcase to close the expander, but I did it! There might have even been a little victory dance.

Traveling carry-on only is so freeing. I love being able to pick up and go when I get to my destination without waiting at baggage claim. I also like having the suitcase to rest my heavy “personal bag” on top of as I move through the airport. It takes a bit more intentional planning, but it’s so worth it, in my opinion.

One thing I’ve learned, though: I try very hard not to book a bulkhead seat so I don’t have to find room for two bags in the overhead compartment.

As always, let me know if you have any questions about fit or sizing—I’m happy to help! And I’ll be sharing a full trip recap and more about our resort in a few days, so stay tuned for that.

  1. I am not getting your emails anymore. Am I still subscribed? Not on spam either. I’m surprised the sandals worked out at the airport. Every time I traveled I had to remove my shoes. That’s why I always wear shoes with socks. I don’t like to go barefooted in public places. Please let me know about my subscription.

    1. Hi Terri, you were in there, but this has happened to a few people lately. I deleted you and re-added you. Let me know if you do NOT get my email today. It is going out in about 10 minutes! 🙂

        1. Ugh, then I don’t know what is going on. Can you log into your Substack and make sure delivery settings are set to email (not app only)? And since you are on gmail, check Promotions folder, also Spam. (Sorry if I am repeating myself, but with a new signup, you may need to check all that again…email marketing is really finicky sometimes.)

  2. It really looks like paradise! I’m not sure I could handle the heat and humidity w/out air conditioning(lol). So glad you found your purse from the airline – I was stressed for you!

    1. It wasn’t really hot. Most of the time, it was very comfortable. When I did get hot (usually just walking up that hill, lol), I just jumped in the pool or showered off. There was almost always a breeze and fans going in our room.

  3. What a fun post to read. You look great and the clothes you picked were perfect. I need you as my personal packer.
I love the pink short sleeve blouse as it is such a pretty pink color. I link the pink dress on you. You said not your best fit, why not? I was especially wanting to see the Quince linen pants styled. I too need to try tops with mine to see how to wear them. With the high waist I wasn’t sure to tuck or untuck. Also I think I might try the size up I still have. Mine fit more fitted then flowy. I think they’ll look great with white too. I’m thinking a fitted white tank and white blouse over it? Enjoy your day.

    1. That pink dress… I feel like it makes me look very pear-shaped. I try it sometimes and like it, and other times, I feel like it throws off my proportions. I didn’t love how I felt wearing it in St. Lucia, but also, I wore it to dinner, and it feels more daytime to me. I might hold onto it and wear it to church this summer.

  4. Hi Jo-Lynne, I don’t see anything on the Bryan Anthony’s site about the “National Women’s Day” sale. Am I missing it somewhere?

    1. Oh no! I started writing this post last evening and noticed it, so I threw that in there. But I just looked, and it seems like it’s over now. I usually double-check those things before I post. I’m so sorry. I’ll update the post right away.

  5. Love all of the dresses and outfits on you. You look so relaxed! Do the Quince linen pants shrink after you wash them? I got two sizes and the smaller size fits but if it shrinks I think they may be too small.

Thank you for all of your hard work.

P.S. I love eating in the room with a view like that….wow

  6. Love hearing about this! The black sheath dress is now on my wish list plus accessories. We went to Anne Chastanet on our honeymoon >20 years ago and I was wondering if you were nearby because the view was so familiar. Looking forward to your trip report later on.

  7. Great post, Jolynne! What a beautiful resort! I love that strapless dress on you. I also think that mesh dress is amazing on you.

I loved seeing that you fit ALL those clothes and shoes into your new Quince carryon. I bought the exact same suitcase, in the same color, in January for my upcoming trip next month to France. You’ve given me hope that I can bring another pair of shoes and another coat option with me. I like to pack light, but I’m learning that Springtime weather in France may be a bit challenging since it is so much wetter and cooler than my Northern California weather. Today’s temperatures are in the 70’s and next week in the 80’s.

  8. Thank you so much for such an informative post! I love Tommy Bahama for the same reasons you do. Now I’m headed to his site to look at all of your dresses! What a dream trip!

  9. I am typically carry on only but it seems more and more frequent that your carry on won’t fit on the plane unless you pay to get a preferred boarding class and even then need to start standing in the line as soon as you get to the gate. I’m starting to look at personal bag only packing options for 2-3 night trips.

  10. What a beautiful vacation! You looked great in all your outfits. I’m impressed that you were able to fit them all in a carryon and personal bag. I’m needing a new suitcase for a May cruise to Alaska and I’m considering the Quince medium sized checked suitcase. In your opinion, do you think it would be large enough for 7 days of heavier outfits or would the larger suitcase be better? I know I can’t fit everything in a carryon!!

  11. Looks like a nice trip that you packed perfectly for! I do have a question on the Quince linen midi dress. In the picture of you wearing it–it does not look like it has spaghetti straps but when I go to the Quince site it does. Did you alter it or is there a different dress? I’d prefer to wear regular bra and not deal with spaghetti straps.

    1. Mine does have spaghetti straps, I guess my hair was covering them. Yeah, the strapless bra is a bit of a pain, but I didn’t find it too bothersome. I have the Wacoal, and I wore it with 3 of my dresses on this trip.

  12. I loved everything about this post. Thank you for providing the hair clip link. Your hair looked beautiful pulled up. I was wondering if you use a certain product to make it look so smooth while in the humid weather.

  13. Your trip sounds and looks wonderful. A comment on the Quince linen pants. I bought them in 3 colors and had to send the beige ones back and size down. They were definitely a larger fit than the black and olive ones.

  14. I loved all of your outfits. You looked fabulous. Your hair looks really pretty up in the clip as well. I’d love to see or know what video you watched on how you styled it in the back/with the clip.

I had been eyeing the J.Crew green beaded necklace along with that pink short sleeve top from Nordstrom. I purchased both items today.

St. Lucia looks absolutely stunning. I’m so glad you and your husband had a wonderful trip. Your stylish outfits keep me coming back for more ideas. Thank you for all your hard work.

  15. Did the Quince linen pants stretch as you wore them? Did they shrink when you washed them? Sorry to ask such mundane questions but couldn’t find a way to talk to a rep at quince. I love these pants, so thankful you found them for me!

    1. Hi Mary, they do stretch out, I wish I’d stuck with the size 10 rather than sizing up to the 12. I did not wash them yet, so I’m not sure if they’ll shrink. I hope not, because I wouldn’t want them any shorter.
