When my husband asks me what I want for Mother’s Day, I always say I want time off. Time off from cooking, cleaning, nagging, decision-making… all the stuff that tends to get piled on us moms.
The best Mother’s Day gift ever was the year he gave me an entire day to myself to go to the mall. Our kids were little at the time, and the opportunity to shop all day without an entourage seemed like pure luxury.
Now that our children are older, I almost have to beg them to spend time with me. Ah, times… how they change!
The one thing that hasn’t changed, however, is my appreciation for cozy, comfy things.
If you’re going to force me to choose a Mother’s Day gift (twist my arm…) I’ll probably ask for a new pair of pajamas or a cozy sweater or something that smells good like candles or bath & body gift set.
Not that I’d turn down diamonds and pearls, but I actually really enjoy the thoughtful, useful gifts just as much.
Or, you know, chocolate. When in doubt, definitely chocolate.
To help everyone find the perfect gift for Mother’s Day, Lord + Taylor is running a promotion through May 12th with 25% off regular priced items and 20% off clearance items!
This hooded cotton cardigan makes a great gift for the busy mom in your life.
It’s perfect for throwing on over her pajamas in the morning while she enjoys her coffee, or she can wear it to top off her favorite tank top and jean shorts for a casual weekend look.
It’s also a great wrap to throw on after a yoga class if she wants to stop by the store on her way home or meet a friend for coffee.
This cardigan is super soft and lightweight, under $30, and it runs true to size; I have a small, for reference. This is the grey, and I like it so much, I also got it in white!
These Sorel sandals are excluded from the promotion, but they’re still priced well under $100, and the comfort is outstanding. I get a lot of requests for comfort sandals that aren’t frumpy, and these totally fit the bill.
They have a leather upper and leather lining, a rubber sole, and a padded insole with just a tiny lift — not even a heel, but it’s just enough to give your feet some support. I could seriously walk in them for days.
And these Joe’s jean shorts are one of the best I’ve tried this year. (I’ve been trying on a ton for my shorts review coming soon to the blog!)
They have a comfortable 9″ rise and a 5″ inseam, which is pretty much a universally flattering length. They’re also incredibly comfortable and don’t bag out with wear.
Finally, how cute is this straw stripe bucket bag? It comes down to $14.40 with code MOM and makes a great beach bag or weekend carryall.
Fill it with a few beachy necessities like a towel, a bottle of sunscreen, and her favorite magazine, and you have an awesome gift for a special mom in your life!
Be sure to place your order by 5/7 with Rush Shipping to get your gifts in time for Mother’s Day.
What will you ask for this Mother’s Day?

This cardigan looks so cozy, I love the length and color.
We are going to be in the USA for some R&R and yes shopping 🤗… then home for a nice Mother’s Day supper ( which may be late) . Our daughter will be coming but our son will be at home as that’s the guys weekend away for her fiancé ‘s guy time before their wedding. So we all win. Sunny and warm again today… sounds like spring is reaching everywhere
A question unrelated to today’s post. I have given my granddaughter an Ipsy subscription, think she has had enough of that. I recall you tried another makeup subscription service for your daughters , wondering the name and if you recommend?
Birchbox is more for older girls. Caroline liked that one a lot.
I got a chuckle from the title of today’s post!
We will be traveling this week to keep our grandsons, 5 and 3, while their parents are away on business. We can’t wait. I will be with both my daughters on Mother’s Day! It’s been at least 2 years.
I like those sandals. I have been looking for a comfortable casual sandal that doesn’t look like Birkenstocks.
That’s exactly how I would describe these!
I think I’m getting perfume this year. YAY!!!
Maybe a silly question but which hooded cardigan do you like better- this one, or the pink one from Amazon (Daily Ritual) you posted recently? I really don’t need two…. ha! I’m hoping for a relaxing Mothers’ Day!
Hm. They’re both great. I think at this point I the year, I like this one because it’s lighter weight and thinner — it seems more summery. But they’re different — the pink is more casual, more like a sweatshirt. This one looks a little nicer for wearing to work, for example.
Thanks, Jo-Lynne- that is perfect information, because thinner is better for summer AND I really need cardigans to wear over sleeveless print tops (like that nice green floral one from Loft) to work because it is still chilly and rainy in northern NJ!
I always say I want the freedom to be oblivious :). Not have to care/worry/plan anything for just one day.. Hasn’t happened yet. Oh well!!
You look great in this outfit! Oh how I wish those sandals had arch support. Since I’m not a mom, I did not ask for a Mother’s Day gift. What did the ENT tell you today?
