What I Wore Lately Vol. 102

Hi friends! It’s time for another What I Wore Lately, so I’ve rounded up my daily outfits from the past couple of weeks. We’ve been having a fairly nice spring, all things considered, and it’s fun to finally wear some of my new spring finds and old favorites.

What I Wore Lately: Two Weeks of Everyday Outfits

SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and I usually wear a small in tops and dresses, a 29 in jeans, and a size 8 shoe. Gifted items are indicated by c/o; everything else I purchased myself.

These pictures start back the day we left for Nashville, and this is what I wore on the plane. I love this utility jacket; it’s not quite as long and boxy as a traditional utility jacket, and it’s really lightweight and soft. It also has some really nice details like a covered button placket (plus a zipper for ease of use) and extra pockets and hardware elements.

When we arrived in Nashville, it was sunny and warm, so I shed the jacket to walk over to Broadway to grab lunch and catch some live music at the honky tonk bars.

QUICK TIP: If you’re intimidated by crowded bars and party busses, weekday afternoons are a great time to enjoy the honky tonk bars on Broadway. They still have live music, but they’re not as crowded and it’s more family-friendly.

You may notice, I’m wearing the Taos leather sneakers. I wanted to test them out when I’m doing a lot of walking to be sure they’re the right sneakers to bring to Italy, and they’re the winner, winner, chicken dinner!

They have just the right amount of arch support, and they don’t rub anywhere or create blisters. (I wore my Sheec socks the whole time.)

We came back to our room at The Westin Nashville for a quick rest, and then I changed for dinner. We ate at Oak Steakhouse, right next door to our hotel. (I’ve eaten there twice, and I HIGHLY recommend it if you like a good steakhouse. The food and service were amazing, and it has a really nice atmosphere.)

This floral top is from last year, and I brought it even though I have a lot of newer tops from this season. I know it’s an easy one to dress up or down, and it has a really nice drape. I also really like the length — it’s not as long as some blousy styles, so you can leave it untucked if you want.

I ended up wearing the same outfit again the next night to The Listening Room, and I walked the mile back to our hotel in these Kork-Ease sandals. I highly recommend these for comfort sandals that don’t look like comfort sandals.

Earlier that day, I wore a sweatshirt and jeans to go downtown. It was rainy and chilly, so I’m really glad I threw this sweatshirt into my suitcase at the last minute.

I was just planning to wear it in the mornings to work in the hotel lobby, but I ended up wearing it two days in a row. I brought other tops, but they were all short-sleeved, and it turned out to be more chilly than we expected.

This was the Saturday before Easter, and Becca and I went to the mall to do some spring clothes shopping. She has a clothing budget, so she doesn’t really need me for my checkbook, and I love that she still wants me to come along and give her input on her purchases.

Easter Sunday was pretty but chilly, so I wore white jeans with a sleeveless blouse and a denim jacket on top. I went with pumps instead of sandals to keep the look a little more transitional.

I changed into comfy clothes for the afternoon. It was just the 5 of us, so our dinner was fairly casual, but I still wanted to look cute. I threw on sneakers with my jeans so I could take Savannah for a walk before I started cooking dinner.

I had a photo shoot the next Monday morning, and afterwards, I wore this comfy outfit for the rest of the day.

Tuesday was Bible study, and I was tired of wearing sneakers, but it was too chilly for sandals, and I put away all my boots, so it came down to loafers or clogs. I went with loafers, and built this outfit from the shoes up. It probably looks more like fall than spring, but I like it.

By the time I got home, it had warmed up a lot, so I changed into this comfy outfit from last summer for the rest of the day.

Wednesday started out rather chilly, and I pulled on jeans and a sweatshirt with sneakers to work from home and run a few errands.

Later that afternoon, I joined my friend on her patio for a drink before dinner, and I changed to shorts and a tee because it was suddenly very warm.

The next day was another warm one, and I wore the same shorts with a different tee and sandals.

I decided I was tired of wearing jeans, so I put on this outfit with the Wit & Wisdom cargo pants for some errands last Friday.

And I wore this sweater and jeans with sneakers to the mall with my mom last Saturday. I know I over-wear these jeans, but they just work so well for this weird transition season!

I changed into our Indoor Percussion branded tees for the finals competition that night, but I didn’t bother to get a picture.

I wanted to wear a dress to church on Sunday, so I grabbed this one from Talbots because it has a bit of a sleeve (most of my dresses are sleeveless, and it wasn’t quite warm enough for that), and the navy seems appropriate for early spring.

This is the petite size medium. I also have the Deep Sea Blue in the misses size small. Both fit really well; this one is just a little bit shorter.

I had a casual outdoor party to attend that afternoon, and I first put on this pink tee and jeans. I love the color of this top, but something about the whole outfit seemed off to me. The neckline exposes more than I’d like when I lean over, and it’s kind of tight around the hemline, so it doesn’t drape easily when I front tuck it. I was afraid I’d be hitching at it all afternoon.

After trying a few other combinations, I ended up in this old faithful outfit from last season… I just like how this top skims the body without clinging, and it isn’t too low cut, but it still looks cute and different from a basic tee.

I tried it with the MOTHER Insiders above, but I ended up switching into these MOTHER Dazzlers because I like the longer length and the slightly lighter wash with this top.

These pictures are from this past Monday. I had an early morning workout appointment, so I wore the tank and leggings, and I ended up adding the hoodie to go to and from.

When I got home, I didn’t have time to change before Kate came over to help with returns and other miscellaneous tasks, so I kept this on for the rest of the day. It worked out well because I also took Savannah out for a walk after Kate left.

And finally, this was yesterday’s outfit for my weekly Bible Study. It’s been pretty but chilly here this week, so I wanted to wear spring clothes and still be comfortable and look weather-appropriate. This blue sweater is the same as the off-white one above, and the chunky cotton knit is perfect for this weird in-between season.

I put it on with white crop bootcut jeans and sneakers to keep the overall look light and airy but still warm enough for our fickle Philadelphia spring weather!

  1. Hi! It’s starting to warm up where I live. I have varicose veins on my upper legs so I don’t usually wear shorts, but have usually done capris and cargo length shorts. My teenagers have informed me that capris are OUT! Ugh. Do you have ideas about what would be in style but cover more leg????
    Thank you!! Jen

    1. Jen…….Go with tee shirt dresses or any casual dress. Or you could do linen pants. They are usually loose and airy. I hear you on shorts. Its harder and harder for me to feel comfortable in shorts the older I get.

    2. Capris are basically crop pants that hit at mid-calf, which is never a good look on anyone. Crop pants end a couple inches above the ankle but below where your calf starts to narrow, which is a much more flattering point. If you stick with crop or ankle length pants, you’re fine. Also, if you are wearing shorter pants, you will want to shorten your top too. Keep the rule of thirds in mind. 🙂 https://jolynneshane.com/fashion-tips-understanding-the-rule-of-thirds.html

    3. I’ve put aside capris too. Yesterday I bought three pairs of cropped pants – one ecru jeans, a pair of washed blue, and olive chinos. I also bought some shorter tops to balance out the length as recommended by JoLynne. They look cute with both sandals and my white sneakers.

  2. I like those denim shorts you wore but I prefer a longer length. If you happen to come across a similar style but in the 5-7” range, will show us please? Denim shorts are usually my favorite in the summer but I’d love some with a finished hem & pockets like yours (mine are a bit more distressed & I think I’m moving away from that style now). Thank you!

  3. Can you tell us why you are picking the Taos sneaker for your trip over the P448, Veja, On Cloud, and others that you have?
I remember you did a sneaker review a while back, but the Taos are new to you, I believe. I like the look of them.

      1. I LOVE Taos sneakers and sandals!!! They are comfy and enough arc support for me. I stand on my feet for my job.

  4. Great job on working around your fickle weather. Its been so cold and rainy here in the NW(Oregon) and we, as everyone I talk to, are about nuts. Its so hard to dress warm enough in Spring clothes. I see i don’t have enough light colored transition sweaters. The weather forecast gives us no hope in the future either. I wanted to hop in the suitcase of my daughter and family going to warm, sunny Calif. to Disneyland. I bought the sunshine Evereve sweatshirt and totally forgot about it in my closet. So glad you styled it in this post, as I’m going to wear it today. It will be perfect for meeting my friend for lunch on this cold, rainy day.

  5. Thanks for sharing the Wit n’ Wisdom denim the other day. I just received them and really like them. I like the little slit on the side hem for something different. Wit n’ Wisdom have always been a good fit for me and the price is good and they feel updated from skinnies. These say skinny but are more like straight cut to me. This is my 3rd pair of this brand and all of them are different in the width of the hem which I like. I’ve had one pair for a few years now that are wider…..just perfect at the hem. Please share more of this brand if you find them.

  6. I managed to buy on sale the coated vegan black jacket this past winter. It’s so nice. I haven’t wore it this spring. We’re supposed to get a cold front tomorrow. I might wear it with a pink tee to make it more springlike. I like the pink tee you weren’t happy with. The dress also looks good on you.

  7. Happy Easter to you and your Family!
Very lovely spring here in Lehigh Valley area.
Easter fashions are certainly a lot different than they were in our earlier years. And, Covid didn’t help, either.
Wanted to thank you for showing Talbot’s Tennis sweater because Talbots is one of the very few places, here, to buy Petites. Target NEVER carried them, Macy’s had fewer and fewer in their department until the store Petite Department disappeared last fall. They’re still available online. Boscov’s still has a big Petite Department, but as usual, the 14, 16, Large and Extra-Large Petites are picked out. (Once I was told they don’t get in as many of larges and extra larges (PL and PXL), but I’ve always felt that the reason they’re scarce is because many Misses size women have more to pick from when they’re “border-line Petites and can shop both departments.) Many of us Petites won’t be getting any taller and we still need clothing that fits. Thankfully we still have Talbots and a few places left.
Thank you for your blogs for which I always look forward to. Your styles are modern, practical, comfortable and realistic in today’s world. (Are you often amazed at our local TV programing where women still wear stilettos, Spanx, and very uncomfortable looking clothing to give us the weather and the news?)
Thank you again for your Blogs and the nice job. Keep up the Good Work!
    Always sincerely,
    Peggy Peters

  8. I thought distressed jeans were no longer on trend but see you still wear them. Is it because they are still trending in your area or just because you like them? 🤔

  9. I wasn’t able to read this email yesterday. And then I was “saving it” to read last night. But I got word that my aunt, my mom’s only living relative besides me, has terminal cancer and has only been given about 2 months. Quite a shock. But I’m thankful to be able to sit quietly tonight and read this, while I drink some herbal tea. It was my bright spot for the day. Thank you for your posts. ❤️
