What I Wore Lately: Two Weeks of Fall Outfits

Greetings on this fine Wednesday morning! It’s time for another edition of What I Wore Lately, where I share my everyday outfits from the past couple of weeks. There are also some new promotions happening, so I tried to link to those in this post wherever I could.

But first, the usual disclaimer: This is what I actually wore as I went about my everyday life, so it can get a bit repetitive, and some of the older items are no longer available. I’ll link up other options and similar-for-less styles where I can.

What I Wore: Two Weeks Of Everyday Outfits

SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and I usually wear a small or medium in tops and dresses, a 29 or 30 in jeans and pants, and a size 8 shoe. Gifted items are indicated by c/o; everything else I purchased myself.

It’s feeling more like November here in Philly this week, so it’s strange to look back at these photos from two weeks ago and see short sleeves, but it was 80 degrees the last week of October!

This picture was taken the day before Halloween, and I was trying to look like fall while staying cool and comfortable for our summer-like temperatures, so I paired this rust colored sweater with dark wash jeans and brown ballet flats.

The next day, we flew to Roanoke, Virginia, to see my parents on the way to visit friends in East Tennessee. It was another warm day, so I wore a chocolate brown short sleeve cowl neck top with dark wash jeans and brown boots.

I didn’t need a jacket, but I knew I would when we got to Tennessee, so I wore it in the airport to avoid having to pack it. This Barbour Clydebank Quilted Jacket is lightweight but also warm when worn over a sweater, and I think it’s super cute. I got it during the #NSale, and it runs a little big. I have the Size 6 US / 10 UK.

We stayed overnight with my parents and then drove down to Roan Mountain, Tennessee the next day. This photo was taken in my mom’s backyard. It was a little cooler, and I wore this cute Taylor Side Stripe Sweatshirt with straight ankle jeans and my new Adidas Spezials for the 3-hour drive.

I changed into dark wash jeans and a nicer sweater to go out to dinner that night at a local steakhouse. This Vince Boiled Cashmere Cardigan is such a gorgeous piece, 100% cashmere and super thick and soft and luscious, and it’s part of the VINCE: TAKE UP TO 30% OFF promo at Bloomingdale’s right now. I think this rose color is so pretty, but it also comes in black, which would be a really nice classic piece to have. You could also wear it unbuttoned over a dress or silk tank or tee.

The next day, we had breakfast with our friends at their cozy mountainside home. (This photo was taken on their property.) Then we drove to Abington, Virginia, to see a show at the Barter Theatre that afternoon. I wanted to be cozy and comfortable for exploring their property and driving to Abington, but I brought ballet flats with me to dress up my look a bit for the show.

After the show, we drove to Bristol, a small town that straddles the Virginia/Tennessee State Line. We did a quick tour of the Birthplace of Country Music Museum, and then we had dinner down the street and watched a band at Delta Blues BBQ. It was a really fun day, but I was exhausted when we got back to our Airbnb!

We went to church with our friends the next morning and then out to lunch before driving back to Roanoke for another stop-over. My brother’s family came over for dinner, so that was a lot of fun.

I wore my side stripe sweatshirt and jeans and sneakers to fly home the next day. (I was really tired of wearing the boots and bootcut jeans, so I managed to cram them into my Carryon size suitcase.) By then, the weather had turned quite chilly, and I was glad I had that Barbour jacket!

Back at home, I wore this outfit to an appointment. I really wanted to wear this cotton blend sweater, and I paired it with the dark wash MOTHER Riders, to coordinate with the navy stripes. I struggled with my shoe choice, though.

I went with these white sneakers with navy accents, but they look really stark against the dark wash jeans. I don’t really like the idea of black footwear with this outfit, but brown seems odd too. I tried to envision dark brown, cognac, or even taupe, and nothing seems quite right. What do you think?

It turned out to be much warmer than I expected that day, so when I got home, I changed before meeting a friend for lunch. I was glad I did, too, because we sat outside and I didn’t even need my jacket!

I started with this base outfit. This Michael Stars Tati Ultra Rib Top is really cute. I love the soft rib knit fabric and strong shoulder design, and it also has a really flattering v-neck. It’s also 25% off right now, and my MOTHER Weekender in this Layover wash are 15% Off with Code TYNOV24SF at Saks.

Michael Stars tee (M) – 25% off // MOTHER Weekender in Layover (29) -15% Off with Code TYNOV24SF (budget option) // Walker Chelsea boot (8) // similar belt // J.Crew earrings // similar necklace

I wanted a top layer for the style factor, and in case it was chilly inside the restaurant. I compared my burgundy LOFT sweater jacket and olive KUT from the Kloth utility jacket, and I decided to go with the olive.

They both work, but I like how the jacket is more elongating and offsets the length of the jeans. I think the sweater jacket might look better with jeans with a higher rise and shorter length.

It was still warm last Wednesday, so I threw on this t-shirt with jeans and Birks to work from home and then to go to a chiropractor appointment.

We met friends for dinner the next night, and it was still warm! I grabbed this tie dye sweater from the bottom of a pile of sweaters in my closet. I’d almost forgotten about it, but it seemed perfect for a casual weeknight dinner out with friends. I tried it with black jeans and black boots, but it seemed kind of heavy.

James Pullover (S) // AG Mari (29) // rag & bone boots (39) // Hammitt VIP crossbody // J.Crew earrings // Victoria Emerson bracelet

So I swapped them out for my trusty MOTHER Dazzlers and white sneakers. Since the jeans are light, and there’s white in the sweater, I felt like white sneakers made the most sense.

In comparing the two pictures, the black jeans are definitely more elevated, but we were going to a sports bar on a weeknight, so I think this one works. In fact, I probably should have just worn my Mother Margarita Tee again!

It must have started to get cooler last Friday because I wore a long sleeve tee to my standing bi-weekly nail appointment. I love how the Johnny collar makes it a little more stylish than just a basic long sleeve tee.

Frank & Eileen Patrick in Heritage Navy c/o (S) // MOTHER Weekender (29) (budget option) // beek flip-flops (8) // HOBO Render // Jenny Bird earrings

I changed to go out for drinks with friends that night at a nearby restaurant. This is my attempt at casual but elevated — I think the brown ballet flats actually look kind of cute with these fray hem bootcut jeans, even though I typically wear a heel or at least a more pointy toe with wider leg jeans. And I realized this old multi stone necklace from Chico’s has some lighter rose shades like this sweater, so I added that for some extra pizzazz.

We drove down to visit Paul’s mom on Saturday morning, and it was a brisk, chilly day — perfect for breaking out this fleece stripe hoodie. I paired it with jeans and then I added my Vince sneakers in the Malbec suede — I love how they complement this sweatshirt. Also, they’re part of the UP TO 30% OFF VINCE promo at Bloomingdale’s.

Later that day, I met a friend at the mall, and I changed the top half of my outfit to look a little more polished. It was chilly, but I didn’t want to wear a coat inside the mall, so this wool/cashmere hoodie + quilted vest seemed like the perfect solution.

I pulled this look together for church the next day. It’s the first time I’m wearing this Rails Easton Jacket from the #NSale! It’s just been too warm here for most of this fall.

I’m not sure I would wear this bulky of a sweater under this jacket again, and I might prefer a more muted color, but I didn’t have time to change, so I went with it.

I also think a higher rise jean would look better with the cropped jacket. I’d like to try this with my PAIGE Laurel Canyon, but they require a higher heel than my injured ankle can handle right now, so the MOTHER Weekender, it is!

We went out to lunch after church with my daughter and her boyfriend, so I had Paul take this picture on the walk from the car to the restaurant.

I did some try-ons after we got home, and then I kept on this casual tee and jeans for the rest of the afternoon. This tee is super cute, and the fabric is really thin and lightweight. Plus, it has raglan sleeves!!

Evereve Ella Stripe Pullover (S) // Frank & Eileen Derry (30) c/o (budget option) // Paul Green Hadley sneakers (8) (budget option) // Jenny Bird earrings

For some reason, I didn’t get a photo of my outfit on Monday, so I’m borrowing one from a couple weeks ago. I wore this cozy Jenni Kayne sweater and jeans home from a photo shoot that morning, and I kept it on to meet friend for dinner that night.

Jenni Kayne Flynn V-Neck (S) (budget option) // MOTHER Weekend Flares (30) (budget option) // Veronica Beard boots

And finally, I wore my new Vince Donegal Cardigan yesterday. It was quite chilly, and this super thick, soft, warm knit felt so nice. AND it’s on sale at Bloomingdale’s! (This Capri color is really pretty, too.)

I decided to size up when I bought this in-store, but as I wore it throughout the day, I started wondering if I should have tried the small. It’s too late now to swap now, since I’ve worn it, but if you’re ordering, I would say it runs pretty true to size.

I did the thing where you leave the bottom button un-done, and I kind of like the look, especially with this one because it creates a bit of a dip to the hemline, which creates some curves in that waist and hip area, rather than a harsh horizontal line. But I had to wonder if people thought I missed a button when I was getting dressed. No one said anything to that effect, but it is kind of silly, if you think about it!

And that’s it for this edition of What I Wore Lately! I know it’s a lot of the same. Sweaters and jeans are my kryptonite, and now that it’s finally chilly outside, it’s all I want to wear. But that’s the point of these posts, I guess. This is real life I’m living here. I do have some more variety in the outfits coming to the blog soon, and also a try-on haul I’m working on for this weekend, so stay tuned for that!

  1. You always look awesome, I wish you could buy my clothes and pick out my outfits each day!🤣🤣🤣Also, I loved your YouTube video!

  2. I really enjoy the WIWL posts, jeans and sweaters are my comfort zone! The Kut From the Kloth jacket link goes to the Chocolate color, is the Olive maybe not available? Thank you for all you do.

  3. I’m considering purchasing the VEJA sneakers for my daughter for Christmas. Nordstrom reviews say they run big and I was wondering what your opinion was on sizing.

    THANKS!!

  4. Your link when you first mention the suede sneakers goes to striped sweater.
Love all your choices. You need to pick my clothes out each day.

  5. The picture of you in the blush pink sweater and jeans with the scenery behind you is so pretty. I love the sweater and the olive barn jacket too.

  6. Question. When you wear a cardigan as a sweater do you wear anything under it? I know I won’t forget and unbutton my sweater but for some reason I need to at least wear a cami under it and I don’t with a regular sweater even v necks.

  7. What another awesome post! Your parents backyard is beautiful, especially with the rock wall! While I think the white sneakers looked fine with the light blue striped sweater, I wonder how your Adiddas Spezial would have looked. The reason I got a pair of off white/tan Adiddas is because there are so many times when white is too stark to my eyes and grey or black look to harsh. I’m glad that got the blood work done. I hate needles, so I have to look in another direction, along with chatting with the vampire. I hope you have a great day!

  8. Love all the outfits and pretty scenery, just love the mountains; my state of NC mountain folks have really had a hard time but so many people have reached out to help which is very heartwarming. What do you think of trying P448 in a greyish cast with the jean outfit with the blue striped sweater, you mentioned the white sneakers with blue stripes don’t quite work. I have my P448 sneakers on re-order from Northstroms, the first pair reeked of perfume (odd) so returned and re-orderd with your link. I see why you like them, I tried them on in the house and walked around for an hour and I think they will be very comfortable. I also like those Shultz flats in todays post, I like how the vamp is designed, looks like it comes up slightly higher on top of foot than most ballet flats, love that brown color.

  9. Love your outfits! I always look forward to your What I Wore Lately segment. I love little Savannah’s Photo Bomb. She so pretty!! I hope you have a great day!!

  10. I think the sneakers look fine with the Rails Striped Sweater outfit, but I’d also wear cognac, especially if I grabbed a cognac bag to go along with it.

    1. I had the same thought on that outfit! As to the one with the tie dye top, what if you subbed out the black pants for a dark wash denim (especially a dressier wide leg or flare) with the black booties you had on in the first pic? It would break up the black, which I think is what’s making it feel heavy, and keep it a tad dressier. But I also like the way you styled it more casually.

  11. I certainly loved ALL your outfits, but especially the pink Vince cashmere cardigan with the “old” Chico’s necklace! I love when an older piece just happens to add the finishing touch to an outfit! I wore my olive green Rails wool jacket for the first time this week as well, it is finally cool enough! I also loved the outdoor shots in VA and TN.

  12. I love all of your outfits and you look amazing in your choices, my style as well. You and Paul are adorable and the pictures at your parents’ home and your friends are lovely – especially since here in south Texas we have none of that gorgeous color. I envy the cool temps too. Maybe a tannish sneaker with the dark jeans. I have the same issues and just keep reaching for my tan suede mules.

  13. The Vince blush colored cashmere cardigan looks very pretty on you. Cute outfit! Since you asked about the white sneakers with the blue striped sweater outfit, I went back and looked at it again. I agree that the sneaks provide a lot of contrast and I would probably opt for a darker color shoe. What about dark brown? I also feel like the inseam length in the jeans is bringing more attention to the shoe. Maybe try a full length jean and those sneakers or an ankle length where part of your ankle bone is showing to break up the line of where the hem meets the shoe.

  14. Great outfits as always. You were in my neck of the woods when you were in Roan Mountain. We have an Airbnb in Roan Mountain and live not far from there.
