What I Wore Lately Vol. 86

Hi friends! What I Wore Lately is back on Wednesday! This is where I round up my daily outfits from the past couple of weeks and share a little about where I wore them and how they came together.

I haven’t had much going on, and I didn’t take any pictures the weekend we took our daughter back to college, so this seems like a short one, but I’m sure I’ll come up with plenty to say, haha!

First up, an outfit I wore to run some errands and go to an appointment a couple weeks back. I would typically wear a casual t-shirt for such an uneventful day, but I was tired of feeling schlumpy, so I pulled on this shirred neck top with my current favorite jeans.

These jeans are spendy, but they feel like pajamas, and they’re easy to dress up or down. I love the kick crop silhouette and the high rise. My accessories are all c/o Victoria Emerson, but the layer necklace sold out.

I wore workout clothes for most of the day on Friday, but then I changed to go to my daughter’s marching band preview night. It was on the football field, and I was working the concessions, so I wore my band parent tee and comfy sneakers. Also, these jean shorts are finally on sale — 40% off, too!

And omygosh, the dog… she follows me everywhere and plops wherever I am. But that’s quite a pose.

We spent the next two days getting Caroline back to college, and I never thought to get a picture of my outfit either day. I just wore the same denim shorts with my Lazy Lake Daze tank for the car ride up, and my other denim shorts and a red tank to ride home.

This was the next Monday, and I threw on yet another tank top and the same denim shorts after doing a bunch of try-ons, and I wore this for the rest of the afternoon. Also, my Birks are finally on sale!

I leveled it up a little bit the next day with white jean shorts rather than blue… not that I did anything terribly exciting. I think I had a chiropractor appointment.

Oh, wow, these jean shorts are 40% off too! It looks like Nordstrom started their end of summer sale. I’m going to need to do a full roundup.

Last Wednesday I ran some errands with my daughter, including a trip to the hair salon. I’m always cold in there, so I wore jeans and brought a cardigan along just in case.

This top is a new one from Evereve, and I have a feeling it’s going to get a lot of airtime this fall.

And then I wore this outfit again on Thursday for my semi-weekly nail appointment. I went with OPI Krona-logical Order this time, as a nod to fall.

Last Friday night was the first high school football game of the season, so I broke out my favorite Why Is The Football Team On The Band Field t-shirt. My daughter informed me that this is the most basic band mom tee there is. Oh, well! I never said I wasn’t basic.

I met a friend for lunch on Saturday, and I decided to use the opportunity to dress up a bit. These jeans are on sale, by the way! They’re really flattering, if you don’t mind the 11″ rise. The inseam is 33″, which is just a tad too long for most of my heels, so I’m planning to cut some off; I just need to decide how much.

Roan + Ryan top (S) // Good American Good Classic Boot c/o (6) // Dolce Vita Palyce sandals c/o (7.5) // Tory Burch handbag // Evereve belt c/o // Evereve necklace // Anthropologie hoops // Victoria Emerson x Jo-Lynne Shane bracelet (coming soon!)

We were supposed to go to a concert that night, but when our group fell apart, the two of us who were still available ended up bagging it and going to dinner with our husbands instead. (The men weren’t interested in the concert, but they were interested in sushi… 🙄)

I could have worn the same outfit, of course, but I had already been playing around with other options for the concert. I needed more comfortable shoes to stand in all night, and my lower heels were too short for the Good American jeans (above) so I switched into these Mother flares in the darker wash… and guess what else is on sale!?!

Yep, these jeans are 40% off! Grab yourself a pair right now. They are so so so good. My sandals are on sale too. Very comfortable, but size up half in the sandals. The jeans are TTS.

Roan + Ryan Arlo smocked top (S) // Mother raw hem flares (28) // Vince Camuto wedges (8) // Evereve belt c/o // Evereve necklace // similar hoop earrings // Victoria Emerson x Jo-Lynne Shane bracelet (coming soon!)

Then I decided I wasn’t sure I liked the black background of that top with the darker wash jeans, so I tried on this other Evereve blouse with the navy background.

Something about this seems more flattering, although I can’t put my finger on exactly what. I think it’s the shape of the narrow v-neck and the slightly diagonal line created by the armholes.

See how the arm opening is cut a little more on a diagonal, whereas it’s straight up and down on the Arlo top? I also really love these colors, especially with the cognac shoes.

So this is what I ended up wearing to dinner. I also swapped out my necklace for something more understated, but I think I actually like the one I had on before better. Minor details…

Alrighty! That brings us to Sunday. I figured it was one of my last weeks to wear a summery outfit, so I pulled out this navy mixed media shell and my favorite white straight ankle jeans. I’ve worn this combo before, so I know it works.

I like how the gold buttons stand out on the navy top and bring attention up towards my face. I added gold earrings and necklace, and I chose taupe sandals to blend into my skin. They have a pretty braided detail, but they don’t create any contrast to break up the look, making my legs look longer and leaner… at least, that’s the goal.

Monday was Becca’s first day of school, and I was a total slug. I wore my Vuori boyfriend shorts and that old grey Treasure & Bond tank top all day… I might have slept in them too.

Then yesterday, I had a followup appointment with my plastic surgeon. He told me everything looks great, and I’m officially discharged.

I decided to lean into fall with this rust colored tank and black jeans. I feel like black shoes might do more to elongate the line of the leg, so maybe I’ll play around with this outfit on another day.

Nordstrom End of Summer Sale

There is so much from the #NSale back on sale that I decided to do a shopping widget. Not all of the prices below are accurate, so click through to be sure.

Some of these prices are lower than they were in July, so if you have anything in your closet with tags on, it may be worth reaching out for a price adjustment. Not sure if they will honor that or not, but it’s worth a try. If not, I’ve been known to return and rebuy if the price difference is significant. Just sayin’…

  1. The price on the N Signature cashmere hoody!
Ordered the olive during the sale but returned because it was slightly boxy. Going to try it again.

  2. Hi Jo-Lynne! I love these posts! Thank you for keeping it real with letting us know you sometimes sleep in the comfy outfit you wore all day (same!). Do you think if I were to need to cut the Mother raw hem flares off by as much as 3-4 inches they would still look good? I’m concerned the flare would look awkwardly short and hit at funny spot. Short lady problems! Blessings! Krista

    1. Krista, I am 5’2″ and I had my seamstress cut my Mother Flares, and they are PERFECT! I usually do my own cutting per Jo-Lynne’s tutorial, but I chickened out on these flares. These jeans are so flattering and comfortable. I say go for it!

  3. I love the dog in the background! I always notice her. My dog always did the same…even when we weren’t aware of him at the time, he always showed up in the pictures! I am glad of it now, because, sadly, we had to have the vet euthanize him at only 7. On a lighter note, I jumped on Nordstrom and ordered the Mother flares, some boots, a handbag, and 2 sweaters, all items on my Wishlist. Thank you so much for the heads up! I believe the Nordstrom Signature cable sweater is less than the #NSale, so I will try to get a price match on that.

  4. I really like what you wore out Saturday night! If I needed to add another top to my closet I would want one like the Evereve. You know that you don’t want to embarrass Becca so maybe ask her how she would like for you to dress for the next performance 😉. Of course, it might be fun embarrassing her. You are proud of her and you want others to know that you have a child in the band. Congratulations on the surgeon releasing you!

  5. Love your band mom T shirt. Glad you got good surgeon report. It’s all behind you now. You were brave and it paid off. I’m going to have to look at Nordstrom sale. Baby sitting my grandson now. He’s busy. Lol.
