What I Wore Lately Vol. 89

Wow, I feel like it’s been a while since I posted one of these! I guess that’s because I did a separate What I Wore Lately for Nashville. These pictures actually start the week before that trip. Let’s dive right in, you know the drill.

SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and I usually wear a small in tops, a 28 or 29 in jeans, and a size 8 shoe. Gifted items are indicated by c/o; everything else I purchased myself.

What I Wore Lately: Two Weeks of Everyday Outfits

This was a regular weekday. I think I ran to Home Goods for a few things to zhuzh up my master bathroom… at least that’s what it says on my calendar. And I guess I never did share the rest of the pictures of my master bathroom. I’ll get around to it someday!

I’m sorry that a lot of what I’m wearing isn’t available. The older I get, and the more I hone in on my personal style, I find that I’m investing in higher quality pieces and keeping them in my closet a lot longer than I used to, so that seems to be happening more and more with these posts. I have this ongoing internal battle between wanting to share outfits that are accessible and available, and wanting to wear favorites from my closet.

Okay, so here’s an outfit that is pretty much all this season’s styles. This jacket is well stocked at the KUT from the Kloth website. I think I wore this to the nail salon a few weeks back.

The weather started to cool down after that, so I finally got to wear that cute Madewell cardigan I’ve styled so much for the blog. It’s on sale plus 40% off, and it also comes in a few other colors. I get a lot of questions about the length, and you can totally wear a cami underneath if you’re worried about exposing your middle. I like this EBY seamless tank.

I also took the opportunity to break out one of my favorite #NSale purchases, these grey suede Vince booties. I walked all over the mall in them, and my feet were very happy. The top of the shaft is really soft against the leg, too. There’s nothing worse than booties that scrape against your leg when you walk around. They’re 50% off, by the way!

This was a decidedly less stylish day, but it was the day after I got back from Nashville, and I was dragging a bit. I did put on some makeup, by the looks of it, but I just threw on joggers and a t-shirt to work from home and catch up on housework.

The next day was damp and chilly, and we were supposed to go to the high school football game, but we ended up bagging it because it was cold and rainy. This is what I was going to wear, so I just kept it on because Becca was having friends over afterwards and I needed to look presentable.

After that, it rained for like a week straight, and I spent most of those days in workout clothes. Other than my scheduled gym workouts and necessary errands, I stayed inside and worked on blog posts.

Once monsoon season finally passed, I ventured out for a hair appointment. I know you just saw this sweater, but this was almost two weeks after that previous picture was taken. This time I wore the blush cardigan with ankle straight leg jeans and loafer mules.

And would you believe, we’re back to another nail appointment? I go every other week. I remember being in a bit of a rush to get out the door, so I threw on these comfy wardrobe favorites.

I’ve had this t-shirt for something like 5 years… I remember finding it when I was shopping in store many moons ago. It was definitely well before Covid, that’s all I know for sure. It’s the softest thing, and it has held up great. I always hang it to dry.

That night, I had plans to go to a stand-up comedy PTA fundraiser with a friend, and I wanted to wear something with more of a “girls’ night out” vibe so I threw on this tried and true outfit.

I tried it first with black suede block heeled mules, but there’s something about them that always throw me off. I think it’s that I don’t like the high contrast against my skin, but why does it not bother me with the flat loafer mules?

I have no idea, but every time I try to wear these black block heeled mules with black jeans, I end up taking them off. I guess they have a slightly higher vamp… maybe that’s what bugs me. At any rate, I wore the outfit on the right.

That brings us to last Friday, and I just ran errands and worked from home during the day. I haven’t worn these Paige cargo joggers for a while, so I decided to throw them on and see if they still fit.

Lo and behold, they fit fine, and they actually felt very comfortable, so I threw the black t-shirt on with them and wore them. I must have run out to do an errand or something because I also took a picture with the denim jacket on top.

I went out to dinner with friends that night, and I thought about wearing this new top that just came in from Evereve.

At first, I liked it, but when I took pictures, I realized it really isn’t all that flattering. I also tried it with a front tuck, but I don’t think that does much for it. As much as I like the print, overall, this outfit just doesn’t really feel like me.

I went back to my closet to look for other options, and my eyes landed on the Vince wool & cashmere short sleeve sweater from the 2020 #NSale. Some of you longtimers may remember this one. (Notice, I didn’t call you oldtimers.) It’s long gone, but this one is a similar color.

I like that look with the black jeans, but then I remembered that I’ve worn this teal sweater with light wash denim, and I really like that look, so I switched into my Mother Hustlers and taupe block heel sandals.

Even though it was a fairly warm night, it is October in Philly, and I’m starting to feel like sandals look a little out of place, so I decided to go for these taupe suede braided mules from last year. I often wear them with light wash jeans, so I know I feel good in this combo.

So this was the final look. It seemed like the perfect juxtaposition of luxe knitwear with casual denim, and the taupe suede mules bridge that gap perfectly. I also like how the blingy bracelet and bold hoops glam it up a bit.

Saturday was beautiful, so Paul and I took Savannah to a local preserve to walk in the woods.

After that, I got showered and dressed for the day in this casual look. This sweater sold out, I guess.

So the next Sunday was church, and I was running late… I say that a lot, don’t I? I threw this outfit on together real quick, and fortunately, it worked! Except I didn’t pay attention to the gold hardware on my shoes, and I grabbed the silver earrings that were sitting out on my bathroom counter. Oh, well. I’m sure no one noticed!

I came home and changed into a sweatshirt from last year and a different pair of jeans… ironically, the same style, but a size larger. And for whatever reason, blue jeans seem more comfy to me than black, although I’m sure that’s all in my head.

I had a photo shoot Monday morning, and then I had to run back out again for a quick dentist appointment to pick up my new retainers. (I learned that after taking out a second mortgage on your house to pay for a dental crown, you then have to sell your car to pay for another retainer since the old one will no longer fit. Haha!)

Anyway! I wore this new graphic tee with my brown denim jacket to run out to the dentist, and then I kept it on and wore it that night to take Becca to the mall and out to dinner for her birthday.

I wanted to wear the rag & bone sneakers, but I didn’t like the cool beige with the warm brown jacket, so I ended up back in my P448s.

And I just stayed in my workout clothes yesterday. It was a Vuori kind of day; I wore my Performance Joggers with the Energy Top and a hoodie, but I didn’t think to get a picture. So that’s a wrap!

  1. Great post! I am so glad you styled the Vince short sleeve sweater! I have it and remember when you talked about it. It’s such a pretty color–I really will copy your ideas. Any other ways to style it? Thanks again for all you do. It is so appreciated-the best out there

  2. So many cute outfits! My fave is the last one with the graphic tee and white sneakers. The others are the ones with the cardigan looking button up sweaters.

  3. I love Splendid’s Kate tee and them in several colors. They are thin but that’s why they drape so well. I like them because they are not too long but aren’t cropped. I’m 5’7″ but short-waisted and try to always follow the rule of thirds and my Kate tees make that simple. They are great in the fall because you can wear a jacket or hoodie over them and not be too warm or too chilly.

  4. Actually, I liked the black block heel mules better than the flat ones with that outfit! 😄

Also, I am glad you styled that teal sweater with light jeans. I was wondering about what to wear with my light flares and bootcuts that I bought recently.

  5. I actually like the block heel black mules with that outfit. 🙂 I love how you ended up with the light wash jeans and suede mules with the short sleeve sweater and adding the belt was good idea. That outfit looked so great on you. Fun to read about your process in picking an outfit. I go through that too and sometimes you wonder if others do. I really appreciate your blog over others for the time and detail you put into it. I like these What I Wore Post, because it tells us(me) what you actually keep and wear, unlike so many others who order a bunch of items off Amazon and then I always wonder if they even keep and wear them. I personally don’t like Amazon clothes and so many of the sweaters that are posted are acrylic and you know how that balls up so bad and they just don’t hold up and look and feel cheap. I’d rather buy more quality and if you shop the sales, which they have all the time, you can get them the same price or even cheaper than Amazon clothes. Thank you for not doing the Amazon thing for fashion. We are having beautiful weather out here in NW Oregon. Feels like Summer in October. I have started my Christmas shopping, but nothing from Amazon deals as of yet. I like to be done before Thanksgiving. Any gift ideas for guys 28-43 age range? Trying to figure out for my son and son-in-laws.

  6. I love that Vince short sleeve sweater every time you show us a pic. If you ever come across something similar, please do show us. I have a few short sleeve sweaters from when J Crew sold them a few years ago, but most are in springy colors. Love seeing a darker color to wear in fall/winter.

  7. Thank you for letting us see that you don’t get glammed up every day! Like you, I prefer the black loafer mules with the outfit you wore to the standup comedy because they show more of your foot and ankle, where as the shoes that come up almost to your ankle don’t. I know that you are looking forward to seeing Caroline and having her create in the kitchen. I hope you are having an awesome day!

  8. I agree with you on those black heeled mules with the black cropped pants. I think it’s because your skin is a light “stripe” between two dark colors. And obviously putting a light stripe around anything (ankles included) will make it look bigger. So you’re probably subconsciously thinking it makes your ankles look big. Which I’m not saying it does! But that would be my rationale for avoiding that look myself. If you kept everything else the same but made either the pants or the shoes a lighter color, it probably would be much less of that effect. Or a lower vamp shoe like you did. Crazy how much we analyze this isn’t it?!
