Happy Friday, friends! It’s been a while since I’ve done a Try-On Haul, so I’ve been saving up pictures for a few weeks. I tried to be selective so I don’t overwhelm you, but this is still quite lengthy, so grab a 2nd cup of coffee and get ready to scroll!
I’ll try to give as many details as I can, but let me know in the comments if you have any questions I don’t cover, and I’ll do my best to help.
SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and I usually wear a small in tops, a 28 or 29 in jeans, and a size 8 shoe. Gifted items are indicated by c/o; everything else I purchased myself.
Fall Styles from LOFT
Let’s start with LOFT. They’re having a sale this weekend… not a shock, I realize, but it’s a good one! (PRO TIP: Never pay full price at LOFT, and stock up when they go 50% off!)
This is a spend more, save more kind of situation. Save 50% off 3+ styles, 40% off 2, or 30% off 1 with code MORE. Gotta love #shoppingmath!
LOFT Clip Button Flounce Dress
dress (S) // Marc Fisher booties (8.5)
This dress is not my style at all, but it’s pretty cute if you like polkadots and ruffles. You can adjust the tie to sit at your natural waist, and I should have unbuttoned another button or two to open up the neck a bit more.
I don’t love the way these black booties shorten the line of the leg, but I’m not sure what other color to wear with this, and pumps seem a little too sweet. I like how the boots keep it modern and add a touch of edge.
Maybe a different style boot would look better, like this pair that is cut straight across the top. They look really good with skirts, and they’re 50% off at Nordstrom Rack! I have them in the beige, and they’re very comfortable.
LOFT Floral Shirred Tie Neck Blouse
blouse (S) // pants (6) // mules (7.5)
Speaking of things that aren’t me… haha! I’m not really sure what I was thinking when I placed this LOFT order. I guess I was mostly looking for new fall styles to share with you, and so much that’s out there right now is not really my style.
I don’t hate the print on this top, but it’s too long for me, and the material is rather stiff so it doesn’t really drape the way you might expect. I do like the neckline and the cut of the sleeves, though.
Here’s how it looks with a front-tuck… See what I mean about the drape (or lack thereof)?
Despite all that, I think it would look good on the right person, and maybe I’d like it better with jeans. That would tone it down some.
LOFT Leafed Smocked Button Blouse
blouse (S) // pants (6) // mules (7.5)
This blouse is similar, but it’s cut differently. It has smocked cuffs and a sand collar with henley style placket. I prefer the cleaner cut of the one above, and the more open print as well.
LOFT Flare Corduroy Pants
pants (6) // blouse (S) // mules (7.5)
So about these pants… I think we’re going to be seeing a lot of corduroy flares this fall and winter. This is the 2nd pair I’ve bought and tried, and I liked the other pair, but this shade of blue is a little too bright for my taste.
That said, these are verrrrry soft and comfortable. I really like how they feel, and the fit is pretty good too. They have an 11 1/2″ rise and a 31 1/2″ inseam, so they work perfectly (on me) with a low heeled boot or mule.
These pants also come in chocolate brown, and they’re available in a wide range of sizes, from 24 — 34. They also come in petite and tall as well as a curvy fit for ladies with more pronounced hourglass or pear shaped body types. They’re true to size, or size down if in between.
LOFT Dog Show Everyday Crew Tee
tee (S) // Mother Denim (29) // Veja Esplar (39)
How cute is this graphic tee? I mean, who doesn’t love dogs in sweaters? I love graphic tees this time of year, and mine are all white or grey. The navy is a nice change of pace.
It’s also really soft and comfortable and has a nice, classic fit. Sometimes these tees can be too stiff or too thin, but this one is just right. It’s true to size.
LOFT Tie Neck Mixed Media Blouse
blouse (S) // similar jeans // similar mules
I’ve always worn a lot of LOFT’s mixed media shells and tanks, and they’ve updated this one with a slightly shorter length and a straight hem — big improvement! I hope they’ll do more styles like this. I don’t love the tie neck design, but otherwise, it’s a great little top for work wear or church.
Classic Fall Wardrobe Staples from Nordstrom
I’ve got a few random pieces I’ve ordered from Nordstrom lately. These are all classic fall wardrobe staples that are highly versatile.
Caslon Funnel Neck Cotton Blend Sweater (S)
sweater // similar jeans // similar mules
For a cozy sweater that doesn’t break the bank, this is a great choice. I’m so glad to see they brought it back this year! I love the ribbed funnel neck and long ribbed trim on the sleeves.
Even though it has a dropped shoulder, the seam isn’t highly visible, so it doesn’t seem to create extra bulk in that area. In fact, the way the neck is designed, I think it kind of downplays my broad shoulders.
I think this teal is so pretty, but this sweater comes in TONS of colors. Here it is in the rust and the grey from last season.
This sweater runs true to size, with a relaxed fit. I’m not a fan of buying multiples, but this is one you could definitely justifying purchasing in two colors.
Birdies Roadrunner Sneaker (8.5)
sneakers // Jenni Kayne sweater (S; similar for less) // Mother Hustler (28)
I mentioned these shoes a while back and never got around to sharing them! They’re a nice alternative to the pricier rag & bone Retro Sneakers that I have and love. They don’t have quite the same luxe look and feel to them, but they’re cute and very comfortable.
They have a lot of cushion and support, and there is room for a wider foot than mine, although I can lace them up tight enough to work for me as well. Size up in these. I tried the 8 and 8.5, and I think I could use the 9.
Sam Edelman Elsy Knee High Boots (8)
at Nordstrom // at Zappos // at Bloomies // sweater (S) // AG Farrah Skinny Jeans (29)
Tall boots are starting to trend again after being on the back burner for a while, but I’m mostly seeing them with dresses, not over skinny jeans. I never stopped wearing mine, as I’ve always loved the look, but I don’t wear them as much as I used to.
I thought these might be a nice addition to my fall wardrobe, and they are very comfortable, and I like the styling, but the color is strange. It’s very orangey. I might like them in black, but these went back.
These boots have a 3″ heel and a 16″ leg opening, and they run true to size. They also come in a really pretty eggshell color at Zappos. They’re definitely worth a try, if you like them.
Also, as an aside, this sweater is 40% off and comes in 5 really pretty neutral colors. I also have the burgundy.
Dolce Vita Nathen Boots (8.5)
at Zappos // at Nordstrom // at DSW // sweater (S) // AG Farrah Skinny Jeans (29) // necklace
And this is another pair of knee-high boots I tried. In this case, I love the color, but they have an extremely pointed toe that is a little too dramatic for my liking. They have really good cushion in the footbed, and are quite soft and comfortable. Definitely worth a try, if they appeal to you.
Madewell Drapey Rib Henley T-Shirt (S)
at Nordstrom // at Madewell // J.Crew vest (S) // similar jeans // Vejas (39)
Henley style tops are trending right now, and I especially like them for layering under quilted vests and casual jackets, as an alternative to a plain t-shirt.
This one is nice and soft and thin but not see-through, but there is nothing drapey about it. It has quite a body-con fit, if you ask me. That said, I like it!
It comes in a few other colors, if you don’t like the ivory, and it’s true to size.
Wit & Wisdom Crosshatch High Waist Ankle Straight Leg Ponte Pants
pants (6) // blouse (S) // pumps (8) // earrings & necklace // VE x JLS bracelet
Okay, you guys are going to want to know about these pants! They’re a ponte knit, so very stretchy and comfortable. They have a versatile 10″ front rise, and the inseam is 27″, which is ankle length on the average woman.
These are black, but they also come in charcoal and a subtle grid print. They’re TTS or size down if in between. They’re great for work wear, dinner out, or even casual everyday looks when you don’t want to wear jeans. See them styled with sneakers below.
Evereve Fall Finds
These are all items I ordered from Evereve, but most are available at other retailers as well. I feel like Evereve does such a good job at curating current pieces that are good quality at a moderate price point.
KUT from the Kloth Amanda Boxy Jacket (size S)
at Evereve // at Zappos // at KUTfromtheKloth.com // ATM tee (M) // Wit & Wisdom pants (6) // Vejas (39)
WHY do all the cute jackets sell out so quickly? I don’t get it. Can’t they just make more? You may have to go right to the KUT from the Kloth website to find your size in this one.
Anyway, this is really cute, if you can find your size. The fabric is substantial but also soft and stretchy enough to be comfortable. Even though it’s called the Boxy Jacket, I feel like it has some subtle shaping through the waist.
I really don’t need another fall jacket, but I’m tempted to hold onto this one! I really like the length and the cut, and it fits perfectly in the arms and shoulders, which is hard to find.
KUT From The Kloth Coated Rachael High Rise Fab Ab (6)
at Evereve // at Nordstrom // blouse (S) // black boots (8) // beige boots (8)
Aren’t these leather look pants fun? I love a coated denim pant, but mine have always been black. This chocolate is a really pretty shade for fall, and it isn’t as harsh and edgy as black.
They have a raw hem, so I suppose you could cut them if you want them shorter. The inseam is 28″ inseam with a 12 1/2″ leg opening; and the front rise is 10 1/2″.
My biggest conundrum was what color shoes to wear. I started with black boots because I didn’t think I wanted a high contrast look, and there’s black in the top to help pull it all together.
But then I decided to try these beige suede booties, and I like the outfit SO much better. For one thing, the black leather boots and the coated denim jeans together is a lot of shine. The suede creates a nice contrast of textures, and the beige color is very pleasing against the brown.
While I like that blouse, it won’t be practical once our weather turns cold for good, so I decided to see if I had a sweater I might like with these pants. My eyes landed on this oatmeal-colored cashmere v-neck that I picked up at Saks OFF 5TH earlier in the season, and I think it works. It’s rather plain, but that’s kind of my vibe.
They might look good with camel too. What else would you pair with them?
These run true to size, or size down if in between. I think they’re such a nice alternative to black jeans for date nights and things like that.
Evereve Natalia Seamed Chiffon Blouse
blouse (S) // Paige Claudine (28) // Dolce Vita Palyce Sandals c/o (7.5) // Seychelles Wood Heels c/o (8)
If you read my last What I Wore Lately, I considered this blouse for a dinner out with friends last weekend. The print is pretty, and I like the design of the neck and sleeves, but it’s a little too short for my liking.
I also tried it with full length flares and a front tuck, but it’s so wide, it looks odd when it’s tucked.
I could have probably added a belt and worked with it some more, but I just wasn’t feeling it, so I wore something else and sent this back.
Spiritual Gangster Love More Organic Cotton Perfect Tee (S)
at Evereve // at Nordstrom // Frame Denim (29) // P448 John (39)
I don’t know what it is about this time of year, but I always find myself wanting a few graphic tees. You can wear them alone on warmer days, but I especially like them layered under lightweight jackets.
Of course, you can wear them in the summertime too, and I sometimes do, but whenever fall rolls around, I actually go out of my way to find some. What is up with that, I wonder?
ANYWHO! This one is 100% cotton and very boxy and a little shorter than some, at 23″ long. It definitely plays into the current trends, but it’s not the best look on me. It’s true to size, if you’re wondering. The small fits perfectly.
Sundry Je T’aime Tee (size 1)
t-shirt // similar jeans // rag & bone Retro Sneakers (39)
This tee is also 100% cotton, but it’s a pima cotton slub jersey, and it’s thinner and softer and has much better drape than the one above from Spiritual Gangster. I also really like the colors in this one. It seems a little more feminine, somehow. I kept this one and sent the other one back.
Premium Denim from Bloomingdale’s
I ordered several pairs of black jeans during the Bloomingdale’s Friends & Family Sale last week, and they’ve been trickling in. Again, most of these can be found at a variety of retailers, so I’ll link up several options.
Frame Le High Rise Flare
jeans (29; need 28) // blouse (S) // Franco Sarto booties (8)
These jeans are AH-mazing. They are so stretchy and comfortable and super flattering. I also love the faded black wash.
I sent the 29 back, and I’m still waiting for the 28 to get here. I’ll need to cut them, obviously. If you’re tall and have trouble finding full length jeans, try these!
FRAME Le High High Rise Straight Leg Jeans in Film Noir
at Bloomingdale’s (29) // at Nordstrom (29) // Vejas (39)
I also ordered these jeans from the Bloomies Sale. I realized I don’t have a good pair of solid black straight ankle jeans. They’re all washed black or crop flares.
I already have this pair in white, washed black and medium wash blue, so I figured these would be a slam dunk, but for some reason, I don’t love them. Maybe I need to try with more outfits. Since Bloomies has a 90-day return policy, I’m holding on to them with tags on to see if I reach for them or not.
AGOLDE Lyle Low Rise Straight Leg Jeans in Phase
at Bloomingdale’s (29) // t-shirt (S) // Vejas (39)
This was a Bloomies sale purchase as well. Clearly, I was feeling the black jeans that day! These are a full length straight in more of a vintage-inspired washed black denim. They look like a rigid denim, but they actually have a good bit of stretch.
I didn’t like them in person, but in these pictures, I’m second guessing myself. I think I just like that outfit, but I’m not sure I’d find a lot of other things to wear with them. I went ahead and sent them back; I hope I don’t regret it!
Nordstrom Rack
I placed an order from Nordstrom Rack for a post I’m working on with them, and I thought I’d give you a sneak peek.
Vince Wool Blend Sweater Dress (40% off!)
dress (S) /Marc Fisher booties (8.5)
We actually didn’t photograph this dress because it’s low inventory, but I really like it. The quality is amazing, it’s 100% cashmere and so cozy and soft. I love the shape of the v-neck, and the length right above the knee.
I might prefer it with taupe booties to extend the line of the leg, but black works too. I still think I’d like the Marc Fisher Oshay booties better with dresses. I’m going to try the Cloud Suede that I have, and if I decide I prefer black, I’ll order them in the black leather.
Vince Interlocking Cable Knit Merino Wool Blend Sweater (50% off!)
sweater (S) // similar jeans (29) // similar loafer mules (7.5)
This is the way to buy Vince sweaters — at Nordstrom Rack or Saks OFF 5TH for 50% off!
You’re going to see this one in a future post, but since I have this picture, I’ll share it here too. I love the interlocking cable knit pattern, and I think this color is so gorgeous! It’s true to size.
One Random J.Crew Find
J.Crew Limited edition new cropped quilted Barn Jacket
jacket (S) // sweater (S) // similar jeans (29) // rag & bone Retro Sneakers (39)
I snagged this jacket on sale, and it’s back to full price now, but I thought I’d share it anyway in case it goes back on sale before it sells out. It’s a limited edition, so I guess when it’s gone, it’s gone.
This cropped length and the quilted style plays right into today’s trends. It’s more of an outerwear piece than an outfit component, which is nice for outdoor events and kid activities and things.
This is how I’d probably wear it, but with a more casual sweater or henley top underneath. Super cute!
Gap Factory
You all really seem to like my Gap Factory finds lately, so here are a few more! I feel like they do a really good job with quality wardrobe basics at great prices, and right now you can save 40% + free shippig with code GGRBONUS. (Cardholders get 50% off with GGRCARD.)
Gap Factory Waffle Henley
top (S) // similar jeans // Vejas (39)
I ordered this as an alternative to the not-so-aptly named Madewell Drapey Henley, and I actually like the waffle pattern better than the ribbed pattern in the Madewell version, but this one is a lot thinner. I would only wear the white under a jacket.
Gap Factory Sherpa
sherpa (S) // top (S) // similar jeans // Vejas (39)
This sherpa is a great little piece to throw on over a t-shirt for casual outdoor events, ball games, etc. It’s cozy and soft, and it has a nice easy fit. Here’s how it looks zipped up.
And here’s the burgundy version. Also, this crew neck t-shirt is a nice basic.
And that’s all I’ve got! I’m off to shoot some fall looks with Alison. Have a great Friday!

Thanks, Shellie!
Also ordered the Frame flare jeans from Bloomies.
Now I’m wondering if I should have sized down from my usual size? Picking them up when we get back from out of town.
Are you keeping them? Look forward to seeing how you style them.
Let me know how they work for you. They might exchange for you at the sale price. They have great customer service. I do play to keep.
Love the choices! I’m not sure you’ve talked about those mules with the corduroy yet — love those 🙂
Probably not, I love them but so far haven’t really needed or reached for them. Not sure I care for them with this but I was at a loss, and they kind of blend in.
I think there was issues with this post on my end too. I couldn’t go right to the post with the link, but had to go into your blog and go to fashion. Then I had to read all the post without pictures at first, as they would not download. Finally they did. Great post. I right away ordered the Wit and Wisdom Ponte pant. I hope the 2 or 4 fit. Most reviews say they run big. They didn’t have either in regular size but I do need the petite length most the time. I bought the Spanx black pant when you first posted them, but I don’t grab them, as they feel so confining. I even with up a size to Medium in them, but Petite medium. Do you think this pant is more forgiving? Wit and Wisdom jeans fit me well, so worth a try for sure. As for the brown coated pants, I think you styled them great with the suede light bootie and sweater. Perfect Thanksgiving outfit. You should keep the pants. Enjoy your weekend.
Yes, these are more like pants and less like leggings.
Thanks…….good to know
Such great information. Thanks for sharing everything. Have you ever tried the J.Crew vintage straight jeans? I’m loving their black and charcoal washes better than my premium brands. Also, what do you think about plaid shirts and plaid shackets? I’m seeing alot of them but tricky to find the right size pattern that doesn’t emphasize broad shoulders or overwhelm a shorter frame (5’3″).
I haven’t, but I’ve tried the Madewell ones. They were a little too straight for me, but my eye is slowly adjusting to more volume in the thighs, so I should try again.
Jo-Lynne – do you think these are the petite version of the Wit and Wisdom pants you’re showing? Their name is different but the rise and leg openings and materials are all the same…
https://www.nordstrom.com/s/absolution-stripe-high-waist-crop-trousers-plus-size-nordstrom-exclusive/7185599?origin=category-personalizedsort&breadcrumb=Home%2FWomen%2FClothing%2FPants%20%26%20Leggings&fashionsize=size%2FWomen%3A%20Apparel%2FPetite%3A%206%2C%20S&color=355
And I’m not sure why it says “plus” size – because it takes you to “petite” not “plus”
Yes, they look the same to me.
Thank you for this post!! I loved everything and I love your style. Just haven’t grasped the flares yet. I’m working on it. Love the corduroy at Loft. You look great in a dress! Hope you have a great day! It’s Beautiful here in North Carolina. 🧡🍁💛🎃🧡
Beautiful here in Philly too, now that the rain has moved out. Yesterday was nasty. Enjoy your lovely fall weekend!
REALLY love the Kut coated in dark brown! The printed top doesn’t do them any favors, but I would like to see you try them with the JK cream ribbed sweater you also used in this try on, along with the suede bootie. I’m thinking something slightly more fitted would complete these pants quite well!
As far as all the Henley tops you’ve tried, which do you prefer the most? Like something you could wear a few times before laundering because it retained it’s shape? Evereve? Madewell? Gap factory?
I miss the “keeping” and “returning” part of these type posts for each item. Enjoy a lovely weekend!
I guess the Madewell, but I wish there was one that wasn’t QUITE so body-con. I don’t think I’d wear any without a layer on top.
I’d wear any shade of pink with those brown coated denim pants–baby pink, raspberry, peachy pink… and baby blues too! Green might be too arboreal. Hah! Camel, grey, off-white? Navy.. they are truly a neutral. They are really nice and I like the chocolate rather than black too!
All great ideas!
I was glad to see Savannah make an appearance in a few of your pictures. I agree that the lighter booties compliment the brown shiny pants. I like graphic tees year round and really should update the ones I have for fall/ winter. I’m glad that sherpa jackets are still current, since I have several. Have a great day!
I love the coated jeans styled with oatmeal sweater and suede boots, and of course the jeans with the graphic tees! So many ideas!
I love the dog tee!!! Mainly because it has a dachshund! I have 2, a standard dapple (he ate my Ugg clog), and a chocolate miniature (she ate my Born sandal) but I love them, ha! I also have a big black lab/something. (She’s a rescue, so not sure what the “something” is, but we think Great Dane or Weimaraner…she’s BIG. I tripped over her and broke my leg when she was a puppy!) I also really like the cream sweater with the brown pants and cream boots. I’m coming back around to browns and creams! Oh, I just ordered the L’Occitane shower oil, lotion, bar soap, and hand cream from QVC. They had the big sizes for a great price AND on Easy-Pay! I’m really excited to try it! Enjoy your fall weather! We will get a taste of it for a few days this coming week!
Good Morning!! Have you ever looked at Kibbe’s body types? I recently discovered his insights and it’s helped me enormously with buying clothes & shopping my closet!
These try-on posts are so helpful! Thank you for doing them! I have been thinking about trying the Jenni Kayne fisherman crew sweater either in the cotton or cashmere. Do you have both? If so, do you have them in size small? Do they run about the same? Thanks!
Also I see they have 20% off sitewide through 10/19 so it’s a good time to order. I love a sale!
I have the cashmere only, and I think it runs true to size. I didn’t see that sale, wow! I should include one in my women’s holiday gift guide. Thanks for the heads up!
