What I Wore Lately

Happy Wednesday! I hope you’re feeling ready for Turkey Day. I’m almost there—I’ve just got a bit of cooking to do today. But first, here’s a new edition of What I Wore Lately!

It’s been three weeks since my last one, so I’ve got plenty of looks to share. A lot of my days were spent at home, so you’ll notice a few recurring themes. (Spoiler: the Birkenstock clogs make many appearances!)

SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and I usually wear a small or medium in tops and dresses, a 29 or 30 in jeans and pants, and a size 8 shoe. Gifted items are indicated by c/o; everything else I purchased myself.

Three Weeks of Everyday Winter Outfits

I put this outfit together for a mall trip a couple weeks back. The striped sweater is ivory with black, so I paired it with washed black denim and casual black leather boots.

To that, I added this black wool jacket, and I grabbed the leopard bag for the photo. I didn’t end up carrying it since it was smaller than I wanted, but it really is cute with this look!

The next night, I met a work colleague for happy hour in Philly, so I wanted something a little more fun than my usual everyday looks. I first tried this outfit with a faux fur vest that had just come in the mail. I layered it over a black scoop-neck tee and added straight-leg jeans and black boots. While I liked the vibe, it felt a little extra.

This plaid coat had arrived the same day, so I swapped the black tee and boots for a brown sweater and brown boots and went with the coat instead. It felt much more like me. Without the coat it was a little plain, but once I added the pendant, hoops, and a croc-embossed belt, I think it came together nicely.

Okay, this next one is a total shift from the previous looks. It was a work-from-home day, and I reached for this cozy combo.

This was another casual day working from home…trying out my new AG Brinley straight leg jeans.

This was my church outfit a few weeks back. I love how the rust pairs with the washed black denim. The jeans are a more relaxed flare, which I really like, but the 32″ inseam means I can only wear them with my highest heels. These Dolce Vita boots are perfect with them.

On one really cold day, I pulled out the sweater I bought in Iceland and wore it with my Quince relaxed straight-leg jeans and black boots.

This was another casual day at home. I like how the sneakers pick up the washed red in the henley sweatshirt and the blue in the jeans.

The next day, I wore the same jeans with this striped sweater and my Birkenstock clogs.

This was another church outfit from a couple weeks ago. I really like this look! I paired this blue and brown fair isle sweater with brown coated jeans and brown suede booties.

And it was a cold, windy day, so I added the brown scarf jacket on top. I love a scarf jacket for adding a touch of sophistication to a look, but it’s practical too.

And I can’t remember exactly where I wore this one, but I love how this sweater works with high rise wide-leg jeans, and this pair is the perfect length for flats. I think the proportions on this outfit are really nice.

Z Supply Breen Cardigan (M) // PAIGE Anessa (29) – 30% off! // Dolce Vita Baylee Mary Jane Flats (8.5)

And I wore this to Bible Study last week—just trying to level it up a bit.

LOFT Wide Collared Sweater Jacket (S) // MOTHER Hustler Roller Sneak (30) // Dolce Vita Faint H2O Waterproof Chelsea Boot (8.5) // T-Bar Pebble Pendant Necklace

I added my green Barbour jacket on top. It has brown corduroy trim, which works perfectly with this look.

The next day, I was at home all day, and it was cold, so I just pulled on Vuori pants with an old cashmere turtleneck, and I opened a pack of those Barefoot Dreams socks that I’ve been featuring this month. Where have these been all my life!?! I absolutely love them for wearing around the house.

This was another casual day at home after a gym workout… there have been a lot of days at home lately!

And I wore this out to run some errands last Saturday.

Barbour Quilted Jacket (6) – 35% off // White + Warren Striped Crewneck (M) (similar – 25% off) // MOTHER Dazzler // adidas Spezial (8) // Clare V Moyen Messenger

And this is my church look from last week—it’s similar to the one a couple weeks back, but with slightly different jeans.

Madewell cardigan (M) // MOTHER Hustler Roller Sneak (30) – Saks GC promo // Vince Sutter Bootie (8) – 40% off (similar for less at DSW) // Madewell bag (love this !)

On Monday, I wanted to wear a vest over a sweater to do some grocery shopping so I wouldn’t need a coat, so I grabbed my new varsity-inspired vest, and paired it with a black tee and added black jeans and black sneakers. I feel like the black and white jacket and black and white sneakers with all the black in between is overkill, but I didn’t have time to play around with it, and it was just the grocery store, so I went with it.

Ollie Vest (S) // Treasure & Bond tee (M) – on sale // MOTHER Dazzler (30) // Steve Madden sneakers (8.5)

Finally, yesterday, I pulled this simple look together. I was mostly just at home, but I thought it was fun the way the shoes pull together the colors from the sweater and jeans.

And that’s a wrap! There are definitely some repeating outfit formulas in here, but that’s real life—and I’m all about keeping it real.

  1. You look fabulous in the chocolate brown outfit with the scarf jacket! Your at home outfits make my at home outfits look like I’m going to be working in the woods 😂, but we live very different lives. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

  2. I love all your outfits too but just can’t wear all those wonderful sweaters here in South Texas. I agree about the black and white outfit. and the one with the little fur vest. I do the same thing, get all dressed and then look at it and oh no- that isn’t happening! Take it off and start over!
I had to laugh at Ginger’s comment . My day to day at home outfits are not for public viewing.
Have a blessed and happy Thanksgiving everyone.

    1. Ginger and Penny sound like me and my at home style, always spilling or spattering something on my clothes or outside in the yard; hate to mess up my “good stuff”. Ha!
Jolynn, I love those Mother Dazzler jeans on you, noticed yours are size 30; I normally wear 31 generally in jeans but don’t have any in this brand. Do you think sizing up would be a good idea?
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

  3. I’m avoiding getting started with my Thanksgiving meal prep! I’m all alone today with no little helpers around.

The brown fur vest outfit is my favorite! My immediate reaction was “wow, JoLynne looks so stylish and super cute!” I laughed at your comment about it feeling “too much”….You are a beautiful fashion blogger…stand out in the crowd! 😘

    1. I agree- I don’t think the fur vest outfit is too much at all. It’s a bit less understated than most of Jo-Lynne’s looks, but only a bit; the dark tones keep it from being flashy.

    2. Yeah, I never like to stand out. I guess that’s kind of the takeaway. Although I did enjoy wearing the blue plaid coat. I was in Philly and there wasn’t a soul in a fur vest or jacket. But long coats are everywhere. It felt more appropriate, but the plaid made it fun.

  4. Those rich autumn colors like burgundy, dark rust, and chocolate really look stunning on you! Your striped sweaters may have over-inspired me- my husband sad the other day “Is that ANOTHER striped sweater?” Well, yes. Hope you and your family have a happy Thanksgiving!

  5. These are my favorite posts! Please never stop these – it helps me tremendously to see how styles translate into everyday “real life” and even the repetition (you don’t have much) shows how to be versatile with items. Also sometimes splurging for everyday items is a good choice, because quality matters, as we never get tired of what fits and looks right. Happy Thanksgiving!

    1. “splurging for everyday items is a good choice, because quality matters, as we never get tired of what fits and looks right.” –> Yes, exactly! It makes me happy to put on quality clothes that feel good and fit well, even if I’m not going anywhere.

  6. Your best outfits are your black or black and white ones, especially with you being a winter. They make you look healthy and radiant! My favorite on you – the first one. 🙂

  7. I think you said you were still questing for the perfect relaxed straights but I’m loving the AG Brinley on you in this WIWL. I like how they buckle just a little with the Birks.

Maybe you already know, but they make the Hustler Roller Sneak in that wash in a 30″ inseam petite – Evereve has them.

  8. My favorite is the fur vest outfit. You look beautiful and effortlessly chic in it.
Second favorite is the Madewell cashmere cardigan.
