What to Wear: Evening on the Beach

525 Cotton Cable Vneck Pullover c/o (S) // 7 For All Mankind Midroll Short Destroy c/o (28) // similar sandals // Baublebar earrings // initial necklace c/o // stone bracelet c/o // DIFF sunnies

Okay, so these pictures were actually taken at sunrise, but let’s pretend it’s sunset. And of course, this outfit can really be worn anytime when the weather is mild.

In fact, I noticed that Sidney was wearing a cotton sweater a lot like this one with denim shorts one of the days we were together, so maybe I should have titled this post Spring Florida Girl Style.

I dunno, but I’ve always loved the juxtaposition of a sweater with shorts for a mild summer evening at the beach, and I often wear this combo at the lake in Maine during the summertime.

This sweater and shorts are a little on the pricey side, but they’re currently 10% off at Evereve. Every little bit helps! Plus, they are both highly versatile, quality spring/summer wardrobe staples, which helps bring down the cost per wear.

In fact, if I could only have one pair of denim shorts in my summer closet, it would be this pair.  They’re soft and stretchy with a lived-in look and feel, and I’m so glad to see 4″ inseams coming back this season.

The sweater is a really nice chunky knit, and the details are so pretty. I like the shorter length for pairing with shorts, but it will also be really cute with jeans and wedge sandals for a springtime lunch or coffee date.

You really can dress it up or down. In fact, Leslie borrowed it one afternoon and threw it on over her swimsuit while we were sitting at the poolside bar, and it was kind of fun to see it on someone else. It’s definitely going to be one I reach for over and over again.

I accessorized with chunky white hoops, a delicate initial necklace, and the stone bracelet I’ve been wearing so much lately.

I also finally picked up the DIFF sunglasses I’m always linking to. These are so similar to my Gucci pair that it’s hard to tell the difference, and they’re actually a little more comfortable to wear because they’re very lightweight, and they have polarized lenses.

This bag is perfect for travel because it lays flat in your suitcase for easy packing, and it stretches to hold a ton of stuff for a full day at the beach. I also like this bag for one under $100.

I worked with Sarah of Sarahdipity Photos for these pictures, and she was such a doll to work with. If you’re ever in need of a wedding photographer (or any other type of photographer, for that matter) in the Jacksonville area, I highly recommend her.

  1. I also love anything long sleeved with shorts, not sure why, maybe it just brings some balance, but it’s one of my favorite looks in the summer. Great pics!

  2. I never thought of a sweater with shorts, but I love the look and now will do it–it helps that I’m a freeze baby. I like the shorts, but with my aging legs and bizarrely sagging skin on my thighs (TMI, I know), I need at least a 5″ inseam. The skin issue is why in the last couple of years I’ve taken to wearing dresses more often.

  3. I love this look as it is definitely something I would wear. A sunrise is a favourite so your pictures are beautiful. Enjoy your time with Caroline.

  4. Do the shorts run true to size? I’m usually a size 8. I wasn’t sure if they ran large. Love the sweater too!

  5. Love the sweater and the shorts. Do you know brand and color of nail color you’re wearing in this post Jo-Lynne? Thanks!

  6. Such a beautiful photo! I need to remember the sweater option more( I usually gravitate towards a sweatshirt) as our evenings usually cool off especially if we are by the water .

  7. Love the look! Wish it ever made sense where I live. No such thing as a cool evening here. Very preppy inspired!

  8. Take from a lifetime Florida girl you hit this look right on the head. We so wear outfits like this on those cool mornings on the beach

  9. Very cute. If it’s cold enough for me to put on a sweater it’s too cold for me to wear shorts lol. I’m older than you. Lol.
