With a new year comes a fresh wave of fashion trends, and 2025 is already shaping up to be an exciting mix of timeless style and bold new statements. While some trends will be natural evolutions of what we’ve been loving, others might just surprise you. Whether you’re looking to refresh your wardrobe or just curious about what’s next, I’m breaking down the key fashion trends to watch this year that are wearable, stylish, and easy to incorporate into everyday life.

Before we dive in, a quick note—trends exist on a spectrum and rarely change overnight. Instead, they come and go gradually over a period of years, evolving rather than disappearing entirely. The idea of styles being strictly “in” or “out” is becoming outdated, and at the end of the day, personal style always trumps trends.
That said, staying aware of what’s fresh can be a great way to keep your wardrobe feeling current. This list isn’t meant to be an exhaustive rundown of every 2025 trend, but rather a look at some fun, wearable ways to update your existing wardrobe—take what resonates, leave what doesn’t, and most importantly, make them your own!
11 Wearable Trends to Know (and Try) This Year
I’ve been keeping an eye on my favorite retailers and diving into the latest trend reports, and these are 11 wearable fashion trends I think are worth knowing about this year!
#1. Boat Shoes: The Preppy Classic Returns

Boat shoes might just be the biggest trend of the year—and they seemingly came out of nowhere. You can go full-on preppy with a striped polo and trousers, keep it casual with a tee and your favorite jeans (or shorts when summer rolls around), or even pair them with a frilly spring dress for a fun contrast.
The classic Sperry Top-Sider is leading the way, but I’m loving this Reformation pair for a more subtle take… and her outfit is perfection. That’s definitely how I’ll be styling mine.
#2. Pintuck Details: A Tailored Touch

We’re seeing a major style shift toward a more elegant and refined aesthetic, and pintuck details are a perfect example. They’re popping up everywhere—on shorts, pants, and even jeans—adding a subtle, tailored touch. I’m also noticing longer shorts making a comeback, which I know many of you will be happy to hear!
3. Colorful Sneakers: A Pop of Fun

Fashion sneakers aren’t going anywhere in 2025, but I’m noticing a shift from classic white and neutral tones to bolder, more colorful styles. While neutrals will always have a place, vibrant sneakers are popping up everywhere. If you’re looking for an easy way to refresh your look this year, a pair of colorful fashion sneakers is a great place to start!
#4. Canadian Tuxedo: Denim on Denim

Denim on denim—aka the Canadian tuxedo—is carrying over from 2024, and I’m seeing it more and more. If you’ve been hesitant to try this trend (like I have), now might be the perfect time to give it a go!
#5. Buckle Details: Chic, Sleek & Strappy

Buckle details on flats and pumps—especially double-strap and asymmetrical styles—are one of the newer footwear trends I’m noticing. These subtle yet stylish accents add a polished, slightly vintage-inspired touch to classic silhouettes. Whether you prefer a delicate Mary Jane or a bold, modern take, buckled shoes are an easy way to elevate your look this year.
#6. Shades of Pink: Blush to Bold

Pink is still going strong in 2025, but instead of last year’s Barbiecore brights, we’re seeing a wider range of shades—from soft blush and dusty rose to deeper berry tones. Whether you go all in with a monochrome look or add just a pop of pink, it’s an easy way to bring a fresh, feminine touch to your wardrobe.
#7. Belts: A Polished Finishing Touch

Belts are back in a big way for 2025, especially when it comes to completing a look with jeans or trousers. Instead of blending in, they’re making more of a statement—studded styles, croc-embossed textures, and wider silhouettes are all trending. Whether you opt for something sleek and polished or a belt with a little edge, it’s a simple way to pull an outfit together and add interest to your everyday denim.
#8. Animal Print: Back in the Spotlight

Animal prints are having a moment again. While they’ve always been a classic, they haven’t been as popular in recent years—but that’s changing fast. And it’s not just leopard this time; tiger, cheetah, and zebra prints are all making a statement. While you can wear them however you like, some of the chicest street style looks pair them with classic basics—think black, white, cream, and other muted tones—to let the print take center stage.
#9. East-West Bags: Sleek & Modern

I love a good handbag trend, and East-West bags are one of the most stylish updates this year. These slim, oblong bags bring a refined, modern touch to any outfit. Whether you choose a structured version or a softer silhouette, it’s an easy way to elevate your everyday look.
#10. Button Details: The Little Detail That Pops

Buttons are making a statement this year, adding a refined touch to even the simplest pieces. I’m noticing them especially on sleeves and shoulders, as well as gold and silver buttons on cardigans that really stand out. It’s a subtle but stylish way to elevate everyday basics with a little extra detail.
#11. Embellished Denim: Denim, But Make It Extra

This is not my favorite of the 2025 Fashion Trends, but it’s definitely one worth mentioning. Denim is getting a bold upgrade this year with embellished details taking center stage. From beading and rhinestones to embroidery and studs, these extra touches add a fresh, statement-making twist to classic jeans and jackets. If you’re looking for a fun way to switch up your denim, this is the trend to try!
So, what do you think—are there any trends you’re excited to try this year? Or are there some you’ll be sitting out? I’d love to hear which ones you’re into and how you’d style them!

Loving some of the new trends. I will invest in some new flats. Something pink and I have been wearing jean on jean already and love it! Maybe something animal print. The rest I will be sitting out. Always excited for to see what is out there each season. I was starting to get worried about you since I didn’t see your post this morning. lol
Yeah, silly me, I thought, Oh, I can whip this out in an hour! Five hours later… It’s live! 🤪
As soon as I saw those embellished jeans, I thought…there’s no way Jo-Lynne is going to wear those, lol!!
Haha! Yeah, not my thing. 🙂
Hi Jo-Lynne, I am on the hunt for a pair of fashion sneakers that have some arch support and heel cushioning. The big issue I have is I have arthritis in the joint on the foot before my big toe (the same area where a bunion would be, but on top of the foot instead of out to the side). Most sneakers have a seam or laces in this area and that puts pressure on that joint. If you (or anyone else reading this) have any suggestions for brands or styles that might work, I would love to hear them. I feel like I am chasing a unicorn! I have a trip to Italy in May so I am motivated to find something that will work with all the walking we will be doing. Thank you!
I have difficult feet too! I currently own Ecco sneakers (comfy with Arch support or should I say all my sneakers do), Dansko and one pair of Paul Green. Check those out. I have tried Taos but haven’t purchased a pair. I don’t care for Vionic at all-doesn’t work for me. hope that helps.
Thank you for the suggestions. I’ll check out those brands
Hi Beth – I have a similar problem, plus a wider foot, and have had good luck with Saucony brand shoes. Not sure if you have been to Italy or Europe recently, but fashion is much more relaxed than it used to be. I would recommend wearing what is comfortable, because as you said, you will be doing a lot of walking. I am in Italy now, and you will see absolutely everything worn by both tourists and locals. Yes, some Italians dress very fashionably, but in recent years tnings have gotten much more casual. Good luck with finding the right shoe, and have a wonderful trip in May!
Hi Linda, hope you are having a great time in Italy! We were in Italy back in September. My friend and I spent some time chatting about what we were going to pack/take along and trying to pick some fashionable items (live in different states). We looked at travel blogs, FB pages, etc and bought a few items. When my husband I finally met up with our friends in Rome, we realized people pretty much wore what they wanted to wear–Italians included. Suffice to say, the videos of people saying don’t wear sweats, joggers, jeans etc–we saw the opposite. Definitely wear what is comfortable and makes one feel good.
Thank you for taking time out of your trip to respond to me. I will check out Saucony. Also thank you for the reminder that comfort is the most important-traveling is not fun when your feet hurt! I doubt anyone but me will even notice what’s on my feet. Have a fabulous rest of your trip!
I too have foot issues. I love Vionic, as that’s pretty much all I wear. But I understand they don’t work for everyone. I found using Power step inserts in shoes that don’t have arch support works great. I get them on Amazon.
also wanted to mention check Airtrex, Alegria. Check out Travel Fashion Girl blog for tips or the facebook page. I was in Italy this September and took my sneakers along (Eccos) but ended wearing my Hoka Gaviotas due to the cobble stones–those said tennis shoes are awesome or I have Asics Gel Kayano. Good luck! Hope this helps
Thank you for the additional suggestions. I was looking at aetrex yesterday, but have not heard of Alegeria. And I will definitely check out the blog.
Try Kuru shoes. They have helped my plantar faciitis!! I’m not sure if they have a shoe for you, but it’s worth a look. Maybe one of their sandal styles, or the Roma Alta would work for you.
Also Oofos has great comfortable shoes that also work for me. Maybe a slip on or tennis shoe would work as well. Good luck, I know how frustrating it is to always have pain when you walk!!
The trends I probably won’t buy are boat shoes and studded jeans. I like the button details. I have a Tshirt by JCrew and a sweater by JCrew factory with gold button details. I will buy a spring top if I find one I like. I’ve always liked pintuck details on pants and jeans. I’m surprised you didn’t show barrel jeans. I’m seeing them everywhere on line. I’m not doing that either.
I feel like the barrel jeans are on their way out already along with bows.
The trends I can see myself pursuing are the boat shoes, button detail( I already have a few of those) , animal prints and colorful sneakers. No on the embellishments on jeans and pink. Thanks for this fun post!
I’m not a big pink person but might try a top in the right hue. Blush is too light on me and Barbie pink was too startling.
I’m a heavy pass on boat shoes! Even when boating I didn’t wear them. To me they have a masculine vibe.
I think I’ll pass on colourful sneakers too. Not because I don’t like them but I already have too many pairs of fashion sneakers. But never say never!
When I saw embellished jeans I thought hooray. I bought a pair of cropped jeans with embroidery on the bottom last week. I hesitated at first but once I tried them on, too cute with sneakers or sandals. But, I see it’s not that kind of embellishments. Oh well, I like them!
I’m not sure about the East West style of bag. 🤔 It’ll certainly date.
I’m here for buttons on sleeves and top of shoulder! I’m wearing a sweater with buttons on the sleeves today. It adds that little something…a touch of elegance, class.
I like the pin tuck trend but not necessarily on my jeans.
I love trend reports. It gets me excited about spring clothes.
Boat shoes, huh?! Such a blast from the (long) past. I might do subtle takes on some of these. Those animal-print boat shoes in the widget are pretty the exact opposite of what appeals to me. Thanks for including so many different options, from “all in” to “just a little.” Now if only I could afford Reformation…
pretty *much* the exact opposite…
I was thinking the same thing about Reformation….That whole outfit with the boat shoes made my heart sing!
Hey JoLynne!! I love it all!!
Question: Are Gray Denim Jeans still in and are cut hems still in for Spring?? Not sure about the embellished Jeans. Haha!!
Yes: I love pink- since I’m pale with dark hair and blue eyes I think it’s a good color for me- so I’m glad to see it’s continuing to trend. Also like the pintucks and the button details. And I bought too many ballet flats last year- plain, mesh, Mary Jane, t-straps- but those are so cute….
Maybe: I’ve never had a single pair of boat shoes. Where I’m from in NJ preppy is its own world and it was never mine. But last fall I actually bought two striped sweaters with polo collars, so never say never! Fashion sneakers are something I literally haven’t done in 40-50 years, since the Adidas and Nikes of my 70s childhood. But the ones you’ve been showing are starting to intrigue me, especially the silver ones. I avoid belts so as not to draw attention to my midsection, but since I’ve been losing weight I may try them out. I have a few leopard-print items, including a pair of kitten-heel Manolos that were a great score on eBay- that may be enough for now.
No: I just can’t see myself in double denim, unless one piece is black or colored denim rather than blue. I have way too many bags (just bought a cute burgundy suede with fringe on eBay after vowing no more bags this year), so I’d better just stick to the east-west ones I already have. And the only embellished denim I like is the boho kind where there’s some embroidery or beads just on the hems;
anything else makes me think of Bedazzlers and Saved by the Bell!
Hi Jo-Lynne! I love a few of these trends. I’ll definitely be doing pink and one of the elongated handbags. I saw this bag awhile back and fell in love with it. I have boat shoes I can resurrect but may take that slowly. I’m not in for the embellished jeans but I used to be ;). And I’m going to give some belts a try. Thanks for all your good advice!
I will try most of these trends. I was just looking at belts earlier. Should I invest a skinny or regular width belt? I’m not interested in the denim on denim, embellished jeans, or the east west bag. I live on the coast so I will definitely have to try some boat shoes. My feet are big compared to the rest of my body, so it will depend on how big they make my feet look 😊
Seems like the styles are cycling through so fast and coming back around quickly. I kept a few of my favorite animal print items and I am glad I did. I like the pink, especially in shoes. The button detail seems like it has always been here anyway, and I already love pintucking, especially on jeans. Everything else I will probably sit out. Oh, my favorite I almost forgot..the double straps on shoes!
Are you going to give us a list of things that are on their way out? I know you do from time to time, but I would love an updated list.
I’m most excited about the various shades of pink and bold sneakers. I will make a more concerted effort to wear belts with my jeans. The slim/small handbags just don’t work for me, and I have no desire to wear embellished jeans.
Love shades of pink, belts, animal print on accessories, and double strap flats (think I might buy the DV ones you show here- good for spring and summer). Not sure about embellished jeans- although I loved my True Religion ones in 2009! What about the quilted jacket trend? I’m seeing these everywhere and in a lot of retail stores.
Love these posts –
Pros – animal print, buttons on tops, fashion sneaks and maybe some of the right pink. I did the barbie pink and never wore it!!
Cons – embellished jeans, boat shoes and strappy, pintuck anything, East West bags – maybe denim on denim.
This is a fun post Jo-Lynne! I am excited to get some embellished denim- that sounds fun. I am tickled at the Canadian Tuxedo though. I am a native Texan and we been doing denim on denim since “since the cows came home” so to me I would call it a Texoma Tuxedo 😁😂. (That’s the area of TX I’m from. )💙
Yep! It’s a Texas Tuxedo! Sixth generation Texan here! I wear jeans with a denim shirt as an overshirt but not as a tucked in “blouse”.
Hard no on boat shoes over here and tbh none of there tends really excite me :/
A big NO on boat shoes and embellished jeans!!
Like some of the colored sneakers……waiting for some tannish colored Golas to ship.
Like the sutle pink sneaks but not sure how practical!
Well I’m super excited about the animal print of course and I did recently pick up done block heel sandals with big buckle so that’s exciting cause that was a random find for me. I do like pink as an accent color since I’m normal a neutral or black girl and finally I never wear real tennis shoes no matter how many times I try just not me BUT I do own 4 pairs of the sperry no tie tennis shoe that looks like the boat shoe version of a tennis shoe so again perfect for me… other trends not so interested in.
Big no for me on boat shoes. I think leopard feels dated to me and I don’t like embellishments on my jeans. The others are good. I like the buckle ballet flats. I’m not sure how to do denim on denim. Should you do light and dark or all same shade? I kind of like the look especially with long wool coat over outfit or even long trench.
I’m coming around to the idea of Mary Jane flats and button details! Justin Timberlake wore double denim in a famous photo in 2001 — I just cannot do it… I would love some tips from you on styling animal prints in a way that’s modern and classy!
I’m starting to embrace the flat Mary Jane flats but don’t want to invest too much as I worry about how often I will wear them. Not at all into the boat shoes, just not my jam. I have the pin tuck black pants from Loft and they are a nice quality. Embelished denim – also doubt I will reach for them enough but they are cute. I like the denim on denim and want to get a pair of colored sneakers – now the painful decision of what color…time to get out of my neutral comfort zone!
I’m telling my age but the docksiders was THE show to have when I was in high school. Those same Sperry’s. Definitely the 80’s and the embellished jeans too.
Great fashion trends post! Thank you Jo-Lynne!
Pros: I love pink; need to add a few belts to my wardrobe; and have a pair of Loft black jeans with pintuck. Those shorts are cute with pintuck. I’ve never been a fan of a denim shirt/top on me, but maybe I’ll try an all demin look. I like the classic button detail design on the sweaters.
Cons: Not a fan of strappy shoes, east west bag, animal print (been there-done that), embellishment on jeans, and a hard pass on boat shoes.
One look I do like is the western wear, maybe because I’m taking horseback riding lessons and love Heartland and Yellowstone?! lol The Loft has been styling cute dresses with western boots and booties. I see western wear at the mall and I live in Cleveland Ohio! Not a “western” town in any way. Ha.
Happy Weekend.
I’m on board with the animal print (always!!!), the pin tuck on slacks (love that), and the color pink – though I really only wear brownish pinks because they’re more flattering on me. The buckle and button details on shoes and clothing, also work for me. Hard pass on the boat shoes and embellished denim, definitely not my style. 🙂
I thought embellished jeans would be a no for me but that first one at gap factory is so cute! I might – we’ll see.
I’ve started to incorporate pink into my wardrobe this winter. I’m a warm spring and I found the pink is cheerful. I will not add animal print ever. I dislike it extremely. I’ll add a studded belt as that’s easy to elevate an outfit. Great article! Thanks!!
Not from Canada but i have always liked the denim on denim look as long as not too matchy matchy. I have a few pieces of pink in my closet already. Not a fan of embellished jeans, I remember last time they were popular how hard it was to find jeans with plain pockets! Not a fan of mary janes and hope that trend goes away soon. I don’t mind boat shoes, they look somewhat like the driving shoes i previously wore and i think driving shoes are more versatile than boat shoes. I sometimes will add a belt, although being short waisted and with the high rise pants, it’s tricky as i don’t want the belt under my breast. Not sure about buttons on tops sometimes that look seems too precious for my style. Same with pin tucks!
Thanks for this post on trends. Sometimes I am able to “shop my closet” to find some of the trends (like pink sweaters & blouses!) I immediately purchased the Dolce Vita perforated suede flats, when I saw them in the “new” section at Evereve! And I still have my leopard flats from a couple of years ago. I really look forward to your posts on trends. I think yours are more comprehensive than other that I have seen.
