Good morning, I hope you all had a great 4th of July celebration yesterday! Gap Factory is still having a sale, and almost everything is 50-70% off sitewide. You can also use code GFEXTRA for an extra 10% off your purchase, so I styled a few neutral summer looks with some of their new arrivals.
Crochet Scoopneck Tank (S) // Linen Shorts (8)
First up, a chic linen shorts outfit! This is not my typical look, but I wanted to try it, and I kind of like how it worked out.
These pleated linen/rayon shorts have a modern tailored styling, with a 5″ inseam. They also come in tall and petite sizes.
I topped them off with a scoop neck sweater tank, which plays into the crochet trend. I almost went with black, but this ivory creates a fun monochromatic look. It also comes in a nice muted olive and a pretty desert sand.
I accessorized with brown to create some contrast in keeping with the overall light neutral color palette.
My next look is a classic black and white outfit, with white kick fit jeans and a black ribbed sweater tank.
Ribbed V-Neck Sweater Tank (S) // Mid-Rise Kick Fit Jeans (29)
These jeans have a nice clean white wash, and I love the cropped bootcut silhouette for a modern summer look.
They fit true to size, and they come in a wide range of sizes from 24–35. They also have short, regular, and long lengths.
This ribbed sweater tank is a nice summer basic to have in your closet. It’s very stretchy, with bra-friendly straps and a flattering v-neck in both front and back.
I’m wearing the small, but I really could use the medium. It also comes in off-white and a really pretty rose color.
I bookended this simple look with black wedge sandals, and I wore black shades to keep the black and white theme going.
I should have added more jewelry, and maybe a black woven tote to add a few more points of interest, but this is a nice blank canvas that you can accessorize in a variety of ways.
Okay, this final look is definitely a departure from my usual style, but I wanted to try it. This is my attempt at the Coastal Grandmother trend… haha!
Linen Easy Shirt (S) // Wide Leg Linen Pants (S)
The Linen Easy Shirt is a comfortable linen/cotton blend with a relaxed, almost oversized fit. It’s also a nice one to wear unbuttoned over a tank top and shorts, or even a dress. I wish I’d thought to try that with the first outfit.
And these pants are really breezy and comfortable, but they would look better on me with a more form-fitting top. I considered the crochet tank, but looked a little too creamy with the white and blue stripe pants. Plus, I know you all like to see some options with sleeves.
The Gap Factory 4th of July Sale ends tomorrow, so be sure to grab what you need now, while the prices are this good! They also have a nice selection for men.

Gap factory has had so many cute pieces! I tried those linen shorts but found they had just a bit too much material for me! Love how you’ve styled them!
Enjoy the beach! Looks like a beautiful house you’ve all got to stay in!
I like when you try different styles you normally wouldn’t. I think you would like the flowy linen pants better with a more fitted top for sure. I wear the flowy pants but only with fitted tops. I have light chambray and also black ones I purchased from Old Navy two seasons ago and they still look new. They are perfect length for my 5’3” height and don’t wrinkle. I’m so surprised for Old Navy. I’ve seen they bring similar style back each year, but I don’t know if the fit is the same. Oh and they are flowy but not overly. You look cute in the linen shorts outfit. Gap factory has really done great this year.
I like the outfits. I bought black linen shorts from Old Navy similar to yours. I like them for a change from denim plus cooler in summer. I love linen pants but with a more fitted top. You look good in those outfits out of your comfort zone. Gap factory and Old Navy are two of my favorites since they carry petite sizes.
Hello from New Jersey (but NOT down the shore!!), I do like your “coastal G-ma” look, but I’m itching to take that oversized linen shirt and knotting it at the waist! Or, with that shirt I would wear denim shorts with a tank top. So many variations for those pieces! Hope you have a great week with your extended family. Have some Kohr’s ice cream for me (and some fudge!).
That is a good idea! Wish I’d thought to knot it. I saw the pix online of it worn this way and liked it on the models so I wanted to try it and didn’t really think about other options.
My first thought was to tie up the shirt too but I actually don’t mind the way you styled it. I think it looks so comfy. Perfect for where you are now.
The idea of wearing a belt with summer shorts would make me feel so irritated and hot. Stretch, IMO, is your friend this time of year you owe no one apologies for if they want to think gym clothes look frumpy(!).
The black/white combination is very nicely simple-but-classic.
Thank you for putting together two posts for us even though you are on vacation at the beach! I keep getting emails from GapFactory but I have been scrolling right by them. After seeing the linen pants on you, I am going to check them out. If the shorts were a tad longer I would consider them as well. Thanks for letting us know that we can ‘select all’ when it’s time to shop the NAS. That is a very helpful bit of information. Have a great day of R&R!
Really like the striped linen pants but I’m with you, needs pairing with a more fitted top; I always feel slopping with too much material. Not a fan on the belted linen shorts, they actually look a little large on you to me but that’s not what I normally see you wear either. Thanks for the heads up on items in the Northstrom sale, I had not even noticed the Wacoal t-shirt bra, already put that in my wishlist.
I’m jealous, wish I was sitting by the ocean; it’s been really hot and humid in eastern NC. Enjoy!
It’s hot and humid here too, but at least we have an ocean breeze! 🙂
I agree the striped linen pants would look better with a fitted top. I think it’d work nicely with that frame tee you featured recently. You could still wear it with sandals or dress it up a tad with neutral wedges.
That’s a good idea!
Ok, so as soon as I saw the last outfit I knew you were going to say you didn’t like it. But I LOVE it!!! I don’t live on the coast and I’m not a grandmother yet, but C.G. is 100% my vibe! You look so cool and comfortable and I’m here for it! Thanks for stepping out of your comfort zone to show us some different looks.
You look fantastic and comfortable in the last flowy outfit. The shorts just don’t do it. You have a fantastic figure and they seem a bit matronly for you. I hope that’s not too harsh. It’s a compliment, I promise!
Like the scoop neck tank and linen shorts outfit, Jo-Lynne. Ironing the linen shorts could be a negative for some. Also, I think you look better with the shorts a tad shorter hitting what some call the sweet spot, but these shorts look nice.

I like all of these looks on you, but I agree about needing a fitted top with the linen pants – maybe a tank under the shirt & wear it as a topper? Cute!!
