Because Leopard Is The New Black

Leopard print is always a classic, but it seems to be getting more and more popular with every passing year. I love wearing leopard shoes all year long, but I particularly love them for jazzing up my fall and winter outfits.

Nordstrom has a great selection of leopard shoes and booties right now, and today I’m styling a fall/winter outfit that goes perfectly with any of the above, depending on how dressed-up you want to be.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, these Sam Edelman Felicia Flats are like wearing slippers. I often slip them on when I know I’m just going to be at home all day, but of course they’re also great for when I’ll be out and about, especially if I’ll be doing a lot of walking.

I paired them with black jeans and this cozy mockneck sweater in a pretty fall golden yellow. Here are a bunch of other yellow sweaters that would work with this outfit.

This sweater is slightly longer in the back than the front, which seems to be the trend du jour when it comes to pullover sweaters. Most of the sweaters I’ve ordered recently are cut this way.

I like it because you can get the balance of a shorter length in front, but the longer length in the back gives you some extra coverage when you sit or bend over. I’m also liking a higher rise jean these days. It works better with the shorter tops that are in style.

This is the kind of outfit I live in when the weather cools down. This sweater is really soft and cozy, and it’s under $50. It also comes in black, burgundy, and a light grey heather that is really pretty. It runs true to size, but if you’re in between, I’d recommend sizing down.

I think this is pretty much the perfect casual Thanksgiving Day outfit.

While I love my flats, there are some occasions that call for a great pair of pumps. I would be more likely to wear this outfit with the pumps for Thanksgiving Day because that’s my favorite way to dress up my jeans-and-sweater outfits for the holidays. It’s amazing how much a simple switch like swapping out flats for pumps can elevate an outfit.

These pumps are actually quite comfortable to walk in, and they make a fabulous fashion statement. I’m fine wearing them for a few hours, but if I were going to be out all day, I’d bring the flats to change into later on.

  1. I totally agree Jo-Lynne!! Leopard shoes are so perfect, even for older women. All 3 of us on the blog did a series about them last year!! And even my mom (the 70+ model) has a couple pair!!
They do jazz up almost any outfit….and I love the color of your sweater! It’s so fallish!

  2. Nice!  Are those dark blue or black jeans. My eyes are getting bad. Is that the length Jean you aim for whether you wear with jeans, flats, booties or tall boots?  I’m having such a hard time with jeans. I’m 5.2. Petite and short usually too short and regular too long. I’ve never had a pair of jeans shortened but may need to go tnat route. You look great!!

    1. These are black. This is my favorite length for wearing with flats and pumps. They also fit great into tall boots. I’ve also worn them with ankle boots, but they look best with lower shaft ankle boots. Otherwise I have to cuff them.

      1. Have you ever had a pair of jeans shortened?  Wonder if they’d come out looking ok.  Never done it but think I may be forced to,

  3. Love on you. I tend to not want to call attention to my feet so red & leopard not good for me but love my burgundy flats inspired by you. 🙂

  4. Great color combination and I have been searching for some new leopard flats (so this post spoke directly to me) lol
But I do have some leopard pumps that Ive had for year and I adore but I work in a more casual environment now and really need the flats. Im leaning towards the Vionic because I currently have an older round toe and want a pointy toe this time. They truly are the new black and go with most everything, I’ve even seen them wore more and more with stripes. So thanks for sharing all the great varieties.
I hope all goes well at the dentist and this year is almost over and you’ll be able to put it all behind you.
Your son is a very handsome 18 yr old and I was trying to figure out from your xmas pics who he looked more like and I think it’s you! These big milestone birthdays are hard on us moms. My daughter turned 21 last month and I almost cried everyday leading up to it but in the end she’s still the smart, responsible girl I raised. But she’s able to buy her own bottle of wine now ????

  5. I LOVE this sweater!!! I just ordered it, but in the light gray. My hair is currently a lighter blonde and I don’t think the mustard color would look right on me. But it looks awesome on you!

  6. I am not a huge fan of lepoard, but I recently purchased the Tori Burch Minnie Flats in Tortise and it’s a great compromise. They add interest and style. I LOVE them.

I cannot thank you enough for introducing me to Flecia Flats. I have three pairs. Not only are they comfortable and stylish, but you can walk miles in them. I wear them to work conferences or when I will be going places where I need to look cute but also walk alot. They are the most versitle show I own. I even ran into a nurse who wears them to work because they are comfortable and supportive.

  7. Great Thanksgiving outfit for sure. I keep looking at the SE leopard heels (just like I did the flats). It’s just a matter of time until I cave, so I may as well go ahead and do it. They really do make such a major difference in an otherwise average outfit (especially solids). Happy Tuesday and good luck finishing up the dental work. I can say for sure, the draft registration card was harder for me to swallow…thank goodness we aren’t in need of that.????

  8. I wear my leopard flats non-stop (I have 3 pairs eek)! I have some great Michael Kors leopard pumps I love as well.
I had to chuckle when I opened your email b/c I’m wearing a gold sweater today and instead of doing black or blue jeans I decided to wear white jeans with it. I added my leopard scarf from Nordstrom and my Gianni Bini cognac flats. Turned out really cute.

  9. Wow! This series is really starting out with a bang! I love this outfit and all the options for leopard booties. I have been daydreaming about a pair of those for awhile now…
And you totally rock that shade in the sweater. It works so well on you that it makes me feel brave enough to try it myself.

  10. LOVE this outfit!! Thanks for all the leopard shoe selections. I have a leopard scarf on my Christmas lists, I may just have to add some shoes or boots too! 🙂

  11. I’m dying to buy a pair of leopard booties and have been for quite a while, but… I’m afraid I may feel too obvious. Does that make sense?

  12. Love the outfit. The color of the sweater looks great on you. I couldn’t pull it off with my coloring but it is a perfect Thanksgiving outfit.

  13. Happy 18th to your son!  I love this one with the heels and the flats!  It is so versatile.  I am having an internal battle because you shared the leopard print Vionic flats at Nonordstrom.  Since leopard is the new black and they could be worn year round, I want them sooo bad.  But, I really don’t need to spend that much on a pair of shoes.  I could sort of justify it by donating all of my boots.  As much as I love my boots, until I have the ankle replacement surgery done, I can’t wear them.  It will probably be several years before I can tend to my ankle, so I need to wear flats.  If I keep on, I will be able to justify buying the Vionic leopard flats!
