Black & White Date Night Look for Spring

Welcome back to 23 Days of Spring Fashion! Today I’m styling a black and white date night look for spring.

I love the laidback/luxe vibe of this drapey tee, and the ball chain details on each sleeve give it a little extra pizzazz. It has dolman sleeves, a modest scoop neck, and it’s about 24″ long in the regular size. (The petite is 22″ long.)

The rayon/spandex blend is super soft and drapey with a hint of stretch, making it easy to dress up or down. It runs true to size; I’m wearing the small.

For an elevated spring or summer date night or girls’ night out, I paired this black top with white jeans and bookended the look with black heels.

Bookending an outfit means wearing the same color on top and bottom — and often it is referred to matching your shoes to your hair color. Although in this case, it can also apply to the top.

Repeating colors on the top and bottom parts of the outfit frames the look, and it’s an easy way to pull an outfit together.

I styled these Jeffrey Campbell quilted slide sandals with black kick flares a couple weeks ago. The square toe, quilted leather, and sculpted heel are very on trend right now, and I think these are so flattering on the foot.

They have a 3″ heel, which gives me a nice bit of added height, but they’re still walkable. I would say these slides run true to size, although I almost always have to size down half in slides, which I did in this case.

There are more sizes available in the black patent and black croco patent, and if you’re looking for a similar style for less, Express has a good pair.

I cut my white jeans to be more of a cropped length so I can wear them with taller shaft booties, and this length also looks great with sandals for spring/summer.

I picked up these Paige Hoxton skinny jeans at Bloomies when they were on clearance for $55 a while back…  I know, sounds too good to be true, right? Unfortunately, they only seem to be available now at Revolve, and they’re full price, but this pair of Kut from the Kloth Donna skinny jeans is very similar for under $100.

Puffy ruched clutches are another big trend right now, and I love this metallic R Minkoff Ruched Clutch for leveling up a casual look for date night. It’s currently 25% off at Bloomingdale’s, and it’s also available in black.

I accessorized with silver to coordinate with the bag and the ball chain details on the sleeves of my top.

This Lucky Brand layered pendant necklace is old, and it doesn’t seem to be available anymore. I really need to update my silver necklace situation. I don’t have a lot of options at the moment.

I also wore my Kendra Scott filigree hoops, and the Victoria Emerson Alicante boho cuff. I have a lot of her bracelets, but this is one I come back to time and time again. I love the mix of silvery beads and coins, pale crystals, and metallic chains.

Black and white is such a chic combination, and it never seems to get old. I think I style one of these looks just about every spring/summer season.

In this case, I like how the drapey top offsets the white skinny jeans. If you’re worried about white making you look bigger on the bottom, it helps to wear something with a bit more volume on top for balance. And then the black sandals anchor the look.

  1. Such a pretty outfit on you today. I’m definitely hemming my white jeans to a shorter length. I’d had them hanging in my closet for two years. Thanks for the idea!

  2. You look so nice in this pretty black and white outfit! The sleeve details really elevate the top. Have a great day!

  3. Great look, Jo0Lynne! I’m laughing because I wore a similar outfit Friday to meet friends for dinner. And I cut my old white jeans (Levis 721) to give them a more contemporary look! Instead of heels, I went with snakeskin slides, though. I like the WHBM top and have owned several over the years. It seems like the Pacesetter never goes out of style.

  4. I love this outfit. So classy and simple but still so stylish. I love white pants with black and navy tops.

  5. Love black and white! In checking the WHBM website, it seems like the color black doesn’t come in Petite, which puzzles me!! Your shoes are adorable, but unfortunately for me, I can’t risk twisting my ankle! I would wear a sandal with a cute ankle strap or slingback shoe.

  6. Believe it or not I forget to wear black and white. I always seem to grab a spring colorful top with my white jeans. But I love this outfit. I see a common denominator with you and Cyndi with this series and it’s white jeans!

  7. This is a great outfit. I love the entire thing. Once I packed for vacation with nothing but black and white and it made both packing and deciding what to wear so easy. By the end of the trip my kids noticed I hadn’t added color and commented, but I loved it.

  8. So classy looking. I don’t think I look so great in black with my pale skin but maybe I over think it. I love the look. Sometimes I do white jeans, white with black stripe top and black mules. Not so dark on top for me then. You look great in black with your dark hair. 🙂 I think I need to cute off my white jeans. One pair is already great length but my other too long. You sure scored a deal on the white jeans for $55. 🙂
