California Wine Club Robledo Review

This holiday season, I was invited to experience The California Wine Club as a typical Premier Club gift recipient in exchange for coverage on this here blog of mine. I participated in a similar program last year with the California Wine Club and enjoyed discovering new wines so it took me approximately two-point-six seconds to reply with a hearty yes, please!!!

Not a wine expert? No problem. This is why I love @cawineclub. They make it easy because Bruce and Pam select unique limited production wines for you to try and also send along a pamphlet describing them in great detail and giving suggestions for how to drink them and what foods to pair them with. It totally takes the guess work out of buying wine.

For my first shipment, I received two bottles from the Robledo Family Winery.

We enjoyed the Tempranillo at an outdoor picnic one cool, crisp fall day.

This is their description:

This wine has a bright ruby color with heavy aromas of cranberry, blackberry, cinnamon, spice and toasted oak. The flavors of dried black fruit, toasted cedar and tobacco mingle with great acidity and strong tannins to produce a long, rich finish. Tempranillo is fantastic with grilled meats and vegetables or even pizza.

I enjoyed it very much! It was nice and rich and full bodied, and it tasted good both alone and with my lunch of ham sandwich (sans bun) and french fries. I would definitely buy this again.

Next, I tried their Robledo Family Winery 2008 Lake County “Seven Brothers” Sauvignon Blanc. Here is their description.

Aromas of honeysuckle and mango waft from your glass of this yummy Sauvignon Blanc. On the palate, green tea, citrus and lemongrass make this white a rich and complex.

This one I didn’t enjoy quite as much. I drank it with a friend on our back deck late one autumn afternoon, and we both felt like it fell a bit flat. I prefer a slightly drier wine with more complex flavors. Still, I always enjoy trying new wines and it certainly didn’t go to waste! We agreed that it might have hit the spot on a hot summer day.

I’m already looking forward to my next shipment. Be sure to follow The California Wine Club on Facebook for great wine tips and to stay apprised of their special offers.

  1. I would definitely use this tote as a gift to give to one of my good friends this holiday season who loves wines! It would definitely make an awesome gift!

  2. I’d give the tote to a friend. On a side note- I met you 2 years at the Hyper Local session at Blissdom ( I wrote a blog Deals for Dayton) and was searching for GF recipes for my son who we recently discovered has a gluten intolerance and I was so excited to see your weekly menu plan and recipe round up. So thanks so much for what you’re doing!

  3. I think that the tote would make a wonderful gift, along with a bottle of wine;) Can’t wait to read more about this club…sounds wonderful! The pictures of that wine look perfect, it is making me crave a glass at 11 a.m.!
