Classy Summer Outfit with White Skinny Jeans

Happy Friday, everyone! Today is also my kids’ last day of school. I know it’s cliche, but it really is hard to believe. As of this afternoon, I’ll have a 5th grader, an 8th grader, and an 11th grader. When I consider my 11th grader, I want to sob. Two years is all I have left with this kid. Some days, I just can’t think about it.

On that depressing note (ha!) today I’m sharing a classy summer outfit with white jeans. This is the type of thing I wear out to lunch with friends or to church (our church is casual.) In fact, I actually wore this outfit to church a couple of weeks ago.

This is such a fresh and classy summer outfit with white skinny jeans for women over 40. I paired it with the White House Black Market Embroidered Romantic Tank and Stuart Weitzman Elixir Wedge Sandals.

For work wear, you could sub white cropped pants for the jeans and add a jacket or cardigan. Wouldn’t yellow be pretty with this?

This is the WHBM Embroidered Romantic Tank. If you keep an eye on it, it’s likely to go on sale before too long. Sometimes I wait to post outfits until the items are on sale, and then the sizes are limited, so I decided to go ahead and share this while it’s fully stocked. This top is soooo soft and lightweight but not sheer enough to require a cami underneath. I love the swirling embroidery with a hint of shimmer on the placket — such a pretty detail that hopefully draws the eye up towards the face. I also like how it is open in the chest area but still modest.

This White House Black Market Embroidered Romantic Tank is soooo soft. I love the material and the swirling embroidery with a hint of shimmer on the placket.

For size reference, I’m wearing a medium. I ordered both the small and medium because I can often size down at White House Black Market, but in this case, I decided to keep the medium. I am expecting it to shrink a bit, and the small pulled a bit across the chest area.

Here’s a view of the back.

I carried my orchard street hemsley from kate spade.

I thought the two shades of blue played nicely together.

And I wore my Stuart Weitzman Elixir Sandals. Mine are the Dove Nappa.

Stuart Weitzman Elixir Sandals: My favorite summer wedge espadrille sandals!

I know, I cringe every time I see the price on those. Some other cute options are the Clea by Badgley Mischka (50% off right now, bringing it down to $107) and the Chaya by Sole Society (I LOVE the Taupe, and they are on sale for $56.) And Target has these Buffy by Merona in tan for $22.

I don’t know the name of the polish I’m wearing on my feet, but I thought the bright pink was fun with the blue and white outfit.

I’ve been experimenting with pink lipsticks lately. I ordered this Amuse Bouche Lip Color in Gin Fizz after seeing it recommended on another blog. It is a LOT brighter than I was expecting, so I toned it down with a nude shade and then I layered my favorite Viva Glam Lipglass on top. I wear this over every lipstick color to give my lips a nice sheen.

My DL1961 Florence Skinny Jeans are currently on sale at Bloomingdales, plus if you’re a Loyalist, these qualify for the $25 voucher on every $100 you spend. I HIGHLY recommend these jeans if you’re in the market for white skinny jeans. I have tried on about every premium brand, and these are the best as far as I’m concerned.

  1. Yet another great outfit! You really can wear anything, with your figure! Such a great easy going outfit. Can’t go wrong with that color combo! Have a wonderful weekend!

  2. This is super cute! I was trying for a similar look this morning, I have some light cropped pants I wanted to wear with a blue top and my new denim sandals, but neither of my blue top options looked good. I needed that blue shirt in my closet!

I’ve tried those Target wedges and they are super cute, but the problem I found was that the strap isn’t adjustable. So in my size it was loose and they didn’t stay on. I ended up buying these https://bit.ly/21ckkMg in taupe, and another wedge by DV that unfortunately looks like it’s gone now. Both are cute and so comfortable!

  3. The shoes cost a couple dollars less than the handbag and they certainly do more work 😉 Stuart Weitzman shoes last for years, wear well and are comfortable. Just my two cents. Thank you for showing us so many ways to style those amazing wedge sandals!

    1. LOL, yes, they do more work, for sure! (Although the bag was given to me by the brand, and I bought the shoes.) I have a pair of his suede pumps that are literally 15 years old and I still wear them every winter. They are also amazingly comfortable, and I have very difficult feet to fit so that helps me justify them. 🙂 It sounds like I’ve found a kindred spirit, haha!

      1. So the shoes are comfy? I could maybe justify the price if hey are comfy AND last a few years. Those look like the perfect neutral.

          1. Thanks for replying. And being an enabler. Might just be the push I need to take the plunge!

  4. Love the detailing on the shirt—it really takes it from a tank top, to a special shirt!
I know we’re concentrating on your outfit, but can I just say that your hair looks especially nice in these photos!! It’s summer—how do you keep the frizz at bay?

    thanks for hosting the linkup!!

  5. I think we have the same taste in shoes. I had a link with very similar sandals to your Stuart Weitzman sandals on Gamine & Stripes today.

I really like the blue on blue! So pretty. Today is my kid’s last day of school too.

    xx-S

  6. The blue really looks great on you! The neckline is perfect…hard to find something that fits openly but is still modest. Hope you have a super weekend!

  7. Pretty top. Love the shoes and bag. Don’t fret so much about the kids leaving the nest. So far, my empty nest have been the best years of my life. Yes, love the kids and all that, but to have time alone with hubby and be able to travel is wonderful.

  8. I love this combo of blue and white. The blue is a striking color on you! I have a bright blue top and can’t wait to wear it with white jeans too. I didn’t realize we share common ages with our kiddos. My kids have been out of school for 2 weeks now and we are in full summer mode ( which I love!) but when school starts back up I will also have a 5th and 11th grader! ( My oldest will start his junior year in college. )It truly does go by too quickly!

  9. Love your outfit – that color of blue is so pretty with white! My youngest’s last day of high school is today, and graduation is next Wednesday. Enjoy those kiddos – it goes so fast!

  10. Another great outfit Jo-Lynne! That color blue looks great on you! Like you, I love the brighter color tops with white jeans. Do you launder your white jeans after every wearing?

Enjoy the summer with your kids!

    1. No way! 🙂 Laundering them breaks down the fabric quicker, and they were an investment so I don’t wash any more than necessary. I try to wear them 3 or 4 times between washings. If I get a stain on them, sure, but otherwise, I keep hanging them back up and re-wearing just like regular jeans.

  11. The blue and white is beautiful on you…. I have yet to find white skinny jeans I just love – so many are high-waisted now and I just can’t get used to the feeling 🙂

  12. LOVE this! And thank you for the less expensive options! I tried on the shoes from target and just couldn’t decide if I wanted them, now that I see them again (your link) in relation to your outfit… I want them! (I hesitate because I’m already like 3 inches taller than the people I work with – barefoot- and I’m only 5’5″!!) Thanks for all of your outfit posts here and on FB… I find that you are much closer to my size and figure and it makes it easy to see what works best!
    Have a blessed day!!

  13. White jeans have been on my list for a few years now and I just hadn’t found a brand that flattered. Maybe I need to go up in price. Great look!

    1. I do believe this is a wardrobe item worth splurging on – especially if you can find them on sale. These are classic enough that I feel I’ll have them for years, and I do wear them so much, I’ve definitely gotten my money’s worth. 🙂

  14. Love this! I love blue and white in the summer and have something similar I can piece together. Thank you for your great style and sharing it with us all!
